Coi Leray Reminds Fans She’s Got ‘Bops’ With Her Percussive New Single

Coi Leray doesn’t take breaks. After releasing no fewer than four versions of her last single, “Players” — including a Jersey club remix, a remix with Busta Rhymes, and another remix with Tokischa — she’s got a new song out today to remind fans that she’s got “Bops.” Over a percussive beat by Johnny Goldstein channeling the spirit of early Neptunes, Coi rocks a rambunctious flow, telling listeners to “pop that p*ssy like a percolator / Every day my birthday, you should celebrate me.”

She’s not wrong; over the past year, Coi’s released a stream of fan-favorite tracks including the Nicki Minaj-featuring “Blick Blick,” “Involved,” “Fly Sh!t,” and “Wasted.” She’s also contributed to K-pop songs, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Nonsense,” and RAYE’s “Flip A Switch.” Like I said: Coi Leray does not take breaks.

The world is finally starting to catch up to her, as well. Last month, “Players” became Coi’s first Billboard 100 top ten single, peaking at No. 9. Of course, with greater name recognition comes the likelihood of more discussion liable to set her off. When Latto mentioned her in her new single “Put It On Da Floor,” Coi took exception, although she later admitted that she’d overreacted and Latto officially ended the disagreement onstage at Coachella.

Coi Leray Keeps The “Bops” Coming With New Single

Coi Leray just returned with a new single “Bops” that continues her momentum this year. After she’s dropped multiple singles and features, including her verse on RAYE’s “Flip A Switch.” remix, she just released the single “Bops.” What’s more is that there’s yet another Coi single coming this week, with “Body” arriving very soon later in the weekend. All in all, it’s an incredibly prolific and exciting season for the Boston-born MC, and one that is only further solidifying her career. On “Bops,” she rides a relatively old-school instrumental that sounds closer to 2000s hip-hop than contemporary trap. With a hypnotic percussive pattern with high-pitched bells and confident flows, she would fit right in on a Neptunes record if she had a time machine.

Furthermore, the short but sharp synths on the track also give it a more vintage club feel. However, the production still sounds crisp and vivid, which breathes more life into these classic sounds. While there’s not too much instrumental progression or variation, Coi Leray takes care of moving the single forward by herself. Multiple cadences and melodies here could make for a standout hook, and her penchant for melody here is intoxicating. As such, even when she’s repeating a lyric or melodic phrase, it still goes a long way to energize the cut. Given previous singles like “Players,” this should come as no surprise.

Coi Leray Is Still Dropping “Bops”

Lyrically, the 25-year-old focuses on, unsurprisingly, her success, talent, and supposed beef with other artist. Of course, she recently cleared up a brief spat with Latto after the latter mentioned her on a single of her own, “Put It On Da Floor.” Even though they seem to have cleared things up, these tracks and Coi’s social media presence indicate that she’s got a chip on her shoulder. Fortunately for her fans, it seems to result in hungry and confident bangers. While we wait for “Body,” let us know what you thought of “Bops” in the comments below. if you haven’t heard it yet, check your preferred streaming service and peep some notable bars below. As always, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Coi Leray.

Quotable Lyrics
They tryna throw rocks (Uh), they think that it’s hopscotch, (Ah)
I pull up, the show stops (Uh), they eyein’ like cyclops, (What else?)
And these b***hes mad, they blame it on TikTok, (Vroom)
And these b***hes mad I got all of these big bops, hold on (Haha)

Coi Leray Talks “Bops,” Body Shaming, & Her Sophomore Album With Apple Music 1

Her rise to fame hasn’t been an easy one, but Coi Leray is enjoying her time at the top. Her breakout hit arrived with Lil Durk after he jumped on the remix to her “No More Parties” single. From there, Coi has climbed the charts and even landed a Nicki Minaj feature, taking over the charts with “Blick Blick.” She released her debut studio album Trendsetter to wide praise, and according to the rapper, she’s carefully crafting her sophomore effort.

Today (April 27), Coi Leray dropped her latest single, “Bops.” The track finds Leray in her beast-mode-bag, and to celebrate its delivery, she caught up with Eddie Francis on Apple Music 1. There, Leray spoke about her new release, tackling body shamers, what fans can expect from her next album, and hoping to inspire others through her work. Here are five takeaways from the noteworthy conversation.

All About “Bops”

Come on. East Coast all day. It just has big energy, period. I got to talk my sh*t, I like to talk my sh*t. I like to say what I got to say. And yeah, I’m just blessed and grateful to be here. I just been recording. I’ve been working on my debut, not my debut album, my second studio album. And I just, I’m always so versatile. One minute I want to sing, next minute I want to turn up. So, in that case, once I heard the beat from Johnny Goldstein, once I heard the beat, I’m like, “Oh my God, this sh*t is going to be insane.” And I automatically gotta hop right on it, and I just got to talk my sh*t. Like, summertime’s coming, and yeah, I feel like I got a lot to say.

Sophomore Record Will Be “One of the Biggest Projects Ever”

I’m so excited about this second album because it’s really mostly myself. I told myself—like, I have a couple features, which I’m going to keep it discreet. Because it’s only literally a little bit, not even a handful, but I’ve been working on this project constantly. I stay in the studio. As you can see, I’m in my home. It’s my home studio here. I’m constantly in the studio 24/7. I’m amazing when it comes to that mic. And at the end of the day, I know this project is going to be one of the biggest projects ever. Nobody’s f*cking with me on it. When it comes to my melodies, my versatility, whether if I’m rapping, singing, doing the baby voice, if I’m dancing or whatever it is, I’m just that girl.

And I say that in the most humble way. I feel like a lot of the headlines kind of overshadow my true talent and what God really brought me here to do. So, I just can’t wait because this album’s going to show that and make people really put them in they face. And also, the second album’s going to make people go back to Trendsetter and make them actually appreciate it for the music instead of the bullsh*t and the negative headlines and Coi Leray always being the topic. This album is all about me. This is another thing. So, I’ll be 26. I feel like I look so young, and people forget that I am actually a young adult developing into a very grown woman, and this is just Coi on a whole nother level. That’s a little hint for you.

The Road To Becoming An Icon

I want to become the next icon, the next “it” girl for my generation. I feel like I am the best of my generation, I’m not even going to lie to you. And I feel like I hold that down. I was the first to break on TikTok, whether if it was “No More Parties,” “BIG PURR,” “Blick Blick!,” “Anxiety.” Just every year upping my next move. Trendsetter, my album, to now having the Top 10 record in the f*cking world. I just feel like it’s go time. It’s time for people to wake up and understand I’m here forever, and there’s a lot that I brought to this industry. I just want to continue to motivate, continue to inspire, continue to set trends, and just be the best I could be for real.

Dealing With Body Shaming

I’m prepared for whatever, honestly. I’ve dealt with the body shaming situation, honestly, my whole entire career. Shout out to all the slim women out there. I feel like I actually paved that way in the music industry for a slim woman to just finally be accepted, honestly, after a very long time. I’m talking since Mya and Left Eye days. And it’s something important you talk about. It’s very something important you talk about. I wake up every day and say, “I love my body.” I don’t give a f**k. When I put my clothes on, I’m not saying, “Yo, I’m going to put this on troll.” I’m putting it on because I love to look good, I love to feel good. And that’s what I personally, genuinely love to wear and like. When they make it about the body, it’s just ongoing. This gets old after a while. It really does.

First Coachella For Coi Leray

That was so dope. Shout out Shenseea, shout out Tokischa. She brought us up. It was dope. The energy was super fire. It was hot as hell out there. And then, the next day we end up, we performed at Revolve. That was my first time at Coachella ever. Had one of the most amazing times of my life. I got super lit. And yeah, what happens at Coachella stays at Coachella. And yeah, that’s just period, we outside.

Coi Leray Shows Off Sultry & Silly Dance Moves To Upcoming “Bops” Single: Watch

Coi Leray has had an impressive year musically so far already, but that doesn’t mean the 25-year-old has plans of slowing down anytime soon. She kicked things off in January with her “Players” single, which has since received a slew of impressive remixes, as well as plenty of attention on TikTok. Since then she’s collaborated with the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Anne-Marie, and most recently, with RAYE on her “Flip A Switch. (Remix)” earlier this month.

All of those arrivals have accordingly got their flowers, but for her next arrival, Leray plans to tackle the tracks on her own. She’s been sharing teasers of her work on social media over the past few weeks, and they’re only increasing in frequency as her recently unveiled drop dates near closer. She’ll be dropping “Bops,” a braggadocious single about her noteworthy success in the industry on Thursday (April 27). The next day, in honour of New Music Friday, the Boston baddie plans to deliver “My Body,” a clap back at those who have commented on her petite figure in the past.

Coi Leray’s Got “Bops”

On Tuesday (April 25), the Trendsetter continued her streak of sharing sultry content to promote her work, though this video also lets her goofy side shine too. “Sillyyyyy rabbits tricksss are for kidssssss 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑,” Leray wrote in the caption. “‘BOPS’ DROPPING this THURSDAY!!!!!!” she reminded viewers, who saw her flaunting her body in a one-piece set and a cheetah print waist trainer while lip-syncing along to her song.

Apart from enchanting us with her glamorous makeup, long black hair, and flexible physique, she also made us laugh with her ridiculous dance moves. After getting caught up in internet drama with Latto this past weekend, it seems as though CL is pouring energy into her own music again, and eagerly gearing up for her new releases that very well may lead to a sophomore effort from her down the road. Scroll on to see more “Bops” teasers from Coi Leray’s Instagram, and let us know which of her two upcoming singles you’re most excited about in the comments.

Coi Leray Shares Scantily Clad Snapshots Ahead Of “Bops” & “My Body” Singles This Weekend

Coi Leray wasn’t impressed when she assumed Latto was dissing her body on her “Put It On Da Floor” single this past weekend. Thankfully, the two rap divas have since cleared the drama up, with the Boston baddie admitting to having overreacted before the 777 hitmaker gave her a shoutout during Coachella weekend two. Now that things have settled, Leray has been able to focus her energy back on two upcoming singles of her own – “Bops” and “My Body.”

For some time now, the 25-year-old has been teasing the tracks on social media. The former will arrive on Thursday (April 27), while the latter is due out this coming New Music Friday (April 28). She’s already shared a salacious twerking video along with a preview of one of the songs, but that’s not all the promotion Leray has in store. On Monday (April 24), she started the week off on a bold note by sharing some snaps that find her posing in a tiny black bathing suit. “Coi 007,” the “Anxiety” artist wrote in the caption.

Coi Leray Stuns in New Instagram Photos

As per usual, the multi-talent’s confidence in her petite frame is evident through the camera, and she didn’t hesitate to tease with some underboob in the second image. Later on in the day, Leray’s feed lit up once again, this time showing her in full glam, swinging from a hoop while wearing a barely-there denim outfit held together by white shoelaces. While the stunning photos are certainly a nice treat, IG followers were even more pleased to hear snippets of this week’s impending arrivals in her next two uploads.

While “Bops” finds her chiefly bragging about how catchy her songs are (especially on TikTok), and how much success she’s found as a result of that, “My Body” seems to clap back at those who always have something to say about her BBL-free figure. Latto Shouted Out Coi Leray During Her Final Coachella Set, Ending Their ‘Beef’ For Good

Anyone who wanted to see what a rap beef between Latto and Coi Leray would look like will be disappointed after this weekend. During her final Coachella set, Latto gave an appreciative shout-out to the other rapper, finally clearing the air after Coi’s reaction to her new song “Put It On Da Floor.”

“Aye, Coi,” Latto said on stage, knowing that even if the New Jersey rapper wasn’t watching, she’d get the news. “By the way, I love your body, baby.” Coi herself acknowledged the moment, retweeting a clip from a fan account and writing, “It was the diss record with my name on it that confused me. Much love to Latto! Appreciate the compliment.”

The diss record in question is “Put It On Da Floor,” which Latto released on Friday after teasing it during her week one Coachella performance. The song has been interpreted by some fans as a diss directed toward Nicki Minaj, with whom Latto has had some friction recently, but it does make mention of Coi, who took issue with her name coming up in the song.

The line that caused all the drama goes: “Smokin’ on that gas, blunt big as Coi Leray.” On Twitter, Coi went off, writing, “Latto bye . 😴 here you go taking about my body. Please do not come on here and talk about nobody BODY.” However, after fans pointed out the figurative nature of the line, Coi reconsidered, reeling in her annoyance with an admission that:

“Maybe I over reacted idk. End of the day. Don’t say my name for clicks and likes. Specially if we don’t speak or communicate. I’m not a big blunt small blunt. Don’t compare me to nada. Mention bitches you actually beef with. Put it on the floor but leave me out of the bs.”

So, Coi and Latto are officially cool now, but we’ve yet to hear back from Nicki Minaj, the alleged target of the diss. She’s been known to keep her feuds simmering for years at a time, so we’ll probably hear from her soon enough.

Latto Addresses Rumored Coi Leray Beef At Coachella

Latto killed any speculations about her rumored feud with Coi Leray during Coachella. After releasing “Put It On Da Floor” on Friday, the Queen Of The Souf rapper delivered her first performance of the record during Coachella weekend 2. Delivering her opening bars a capella, she clarified her reference to Coi Leray before jumping into the song. “Aye, Coi, by the way, I love yo body, baby,” she said. It didn’t take long for the clip to return to the Trendsetter artist who simply quoted the video on Twitter with a “100” emoji.

Ultimately, it all boiled down to a simple misunderstanding between the two artists, which Coi admitted afterward. “It was the diss record with my name on it that confused me. Much love to Latto! Appreciate the compliment,” she wrote on Twitter. She previously expressed a similar statement a day prior when she acknowledged that she may have overreacted. “Maybe I overreacted idk,” she wrote. “I’m not a big blunt small blunt. Don’t compare me to nada.”

Latto & Coi Leray Make Up

The line in question lands on the second verse of Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor,” which led to the internet debating whether or not it was shade. “Smokin’ on that gas, blunt big as Coi Leray/ B*tches like to run to mouths but I’m the type to run the fade,” she raps. Immediately afterward, Coi went off on Twitter, claiming that Latto simply wanted to engage in some sort of rap beef with her. Afterward, she suggested that there were tensions behind closed doors between the two. Some felt like it may have surrounded the leak of Latto’s reference track for “Blick Blick.”

Unfortunately, in Coi Leray’s attempt to deflect the beef, she got caught up in her own fib. At one point, she suggested that she “don’t know none of you bitches in real life.” As expected, fans thought that was a dig toward Latto, though it didn’t take long for receipts to surface. Coi Leray, in fact, appeared in Latto’s 2020 music video for “On God” as an extra. Regardless, Coi Leray and Latto have put their feud behind them, Perhaps, we can expect a collaboration in the near future.

Coi’s Response

Coi Leray Twerks In A Little Black Dress While Promoting Upcoming Single: Watch

It’s been a busy day on the internet for Coi Leray so far. Not only did the 25-year-old show out on the remix of RAYE’s “Flip A Switch.,” but she also found herself in the midst of some Twitter beef with Latto. The “Wheelie” hitmaker dropped a single of her own this New Music Friday (April 21), called “Put It On Da Floor.” Upon hearing the track’s lyrics, Leray felt personally attacked and called her contemporary out for body shaming her. At the same time, the Boston native asserted that she and Latto had never previously met, though those claims have since been debunked as online sleuths pointed out that they once appeared in a music video together.

After nearly sparking more beef with Iggy Azalea, and facing backlash for going after Latto, the Trendsetter opted to admit she was perhaps being dramatic. “Maybe I overreacted, idk,” she tweeted on Saturday morning. “End of the day. Don’t say my name for clicks and likes. [Especially] if we don’t speak or communicate. I’m not a big blunt small blunt. Don’t compare me to nada. Mention bitches you actually beef with. Put it on the floor but leave me out of the bs,” Leray added. Shortly after, she was back to her usual antics over on Instagram.

Coi Leray Has More Music OTW

Earlier this afternoon, the “Anxiety” artist dropped off a salacious video on her feed, which finds her petite booty bouncing in a little black dress. Leray’s face doesn’t make an appearance in her clip, but many viewers would likely be too distracted by her behind to notice if it did. In her caption, she wrote “BIHHH I GOT BOPSSSS 🆑🆑🆑🆑👀👀👀🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,” before hinting that she’s seemingly got a single coming our way on April 27.

As she twerks for the camera, a preview of Coi Leray’s upcoming release plays. “I pull up the show stops / They eyein’ like cyclops,” she cleverly rhymes. “These bitches mad / They blame it on TikTok / Yeah, these bitches mad / I got all these big bops.” From the sounds of things, the Boston-born baddie is tired of people crediting her success to regularly going viral on the app, and she’s using her music as an outlet to channel her frustrations. Are you excited for the single to drop next week? Let us know below, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.
