Why Mo’Nique & D.L. Hughley Are At Odds

Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast has continued in recent weeks to garner a reputation for being the premiere platform for comedians and public figures to air their grievances and double down on their public feuds. Last week, comedian and actress Mo’Nique joined the pod, delivering a few scathing takes about Oprah, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Tyler Perry, and others. However, the biggest bombshell dropped on the appearance was Mo’Nique’s opinion of Kings of Comedy comedian D.L. Hughley, escalating a dispute that dates back to 2022.

The Beef Began Over A Contract Dispute

According to Mo’Nique, D.L. Hughley has been speaking negatively about her for years, though their actual feud began during a 2022 stand-up comedy performance in Detroit, Michigan. Apparently, both Mo’Nique and D.L. Hughley had listed in their contracts that they were to headline the event, and neither party would agree to go on stage before the other. While some comedians could have simply swallowed their pride and accepted the terms of the stalemate, Mo’Nique and D.L. Hughley took the spat to social media, where things became far more heated and personal.

So personal, in fact, that Mo’Nique called out Hughley for not publicly naming the person who sexually assaulted his daughter, Ryan Nicole Shepard. Hughley has spoken about the assault publicly in the past and explained that he had trouble believing his daughter at first because the alleged abuser was someone he trusted and respected. After the heated exchange, both parties seemed to put the beef to rest for a time, and though they never truly reconciled, it appeared as though the feud was over.

Monique’s Comments Reignited The Rivalry

During her Club Shay Shay appearance, Mo’Nique discussed an incident in which she appeared on D.L. Hughley’s radio show (without the King of Comedy star present) and became offended at the line of questioning she received during a segment of “Would You Rather.” According to Mo’Nique, she had a personal discussion with Hughley after the event in which the comedian was incredibly dismissive of her grievances. D.L. Hughley denies being dismissive of her, as he agreed to pull the entire “Would You Rather” segment, which is still not available for the public to hear to this day.

D.L. Hughley Responded In A Fiery Social Media Post

After the Club Shay Shay appearance, D.L. Hughley responded to Mo’Nique’s comments via Instagram. In the explosive video, Hughley mocked the comedian’s career, made fun of her weight, and exposed several alleged lies that Mo’Nique has told to the public in recent years. He also called her Netflix special “trash” and claimed that the stand-up comedy routine “got the worst reviews of any Netflix special in history.”

Since then, the pair have continued to fire shots back and forth at one another through social media, with no sign of an end in sight. Mo’Nique will likely continue to drag the feud out in public as promotion for her upcoming stint on Katt Williams’ Dark Matter tour, which she is poised to join later this month.

Mo’Nique Joins Katt Williams’ Tour Amid “Club Shay Shay” Fallout

Earlier this week, Mo’Nique’s eagerly anticipated Club Shay Shay interview finally dropped, and it didn’t disappoint. The performer discussed being shunned by her celebrity peers, calling out people like Oprah, Tyler Perry, Kevin Hart, and more. Even before the interview was released, social media users began to draw comparisons between Mo’Nique and Katt Williams, who just appeared on Club Shay Shay last month.

His interview went viral, as he similarly put several of his fellow comedians on blast. He dissed Kevin Hart, Rickey Smiley, Cedric The Entertainer, and more. Now, amid the fallout of Mo’Nique’s interview, she’s announced that she’ll be hopping on Williams’ Dark Matter tour. Kevin Hart’s ex-wife Torrei and Mark Curry will also join them on the tour.

Mo’Nique On Her “Fraternal Twin Brother” Katt Williams

Mo’Nique and her husband Sidney Hicks shared the news during an Instagram Live earlier today. The couple was addressing D.L. Hughley’s response to her callout on Club Shay Shay, as well as thanking the hosts of The Breakfast Club for their recent apologies. She had claimed that she was made uncomfortable during a game of “Would You Rather” on Hughley’s radio show, prompting him to fire back. “Every time I see Mo’Nique these days, she’s doing some greasy a** video with her and her daddy complaining about something or working out,” he said, also dubbing her a “liar.” According to Mo’Nique and Hicks, however, Hughley only scrapped the interview because they had gotten their attorney involved, though they hadn’t yet reached the point of sending him a cease and desist.

At some point in the Instagram Live, they snuck the announcement in. Fans note that Mo’Nique’s inclusion on the tour is sure to make it all the more explosive. Kirk Franklin Finally Responds To Katt Williams “Club Shay Shay” Interview

Kirk Franklin has finally responded after being name-checked by Katt Williams in his Club Shay Shay interview last month. “You just shake your head. It’s like, ‘Lord, have mercy!’ because I don’t know where it’s going. But shout out to Katt Williams. I just think that there are so many voices right now that are having the opportunity to speak their journey, their experiences. And I just think that it’s important for everyone to have a platform to tell the truth and their story. I don’t think anybody should be silenced, anybody should be censored. I think that every human being has the right to tell their voice and their story,” Franklin told HipHopDX at the Grammys.

Franklin got off lighter than most of the people mentioned by Williams during the now-viral interview. The more prevalent course of action was that if Williams was mentioning you, you were about to get skewered by the veteran actor and comedian. This has led to a wave of backlash ever since the interview came out. Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish both offered differing responses to Williams. Meanwhile, Ludacris felt strongly enough to hit Williams with a freestyle diss.

Katt Williams Club Shay Shay Interview Spoofed On Saturday Night Live

Meanwhile, SNL dedicated a skit during their January 21 show to spoofing Williams’ much talked-about interview. Ego Nwodim played Williams while Devin Walker played Shannon Sharpe. The skit was billed as the “eight-hour extended version” of the interview. “Three things are true about me. I am 5’3, I have never told a lie, and I am 6’3,” Nwodim’s Williams says. Furthermore, the skit featured several jokes about Williams’ comments about Kevin Hart. “Look, Hollywood made Kevin Hart. Everyone knows Kevin Hart was made in the same factory where they make Teddy Grahams. Why the hell he smell like cinnamon?” ranted Williams. Other targets of Nwodim’s Williams included Barak Obama and included Williams claiming he invented fruit.

Meanwhile, Renee Rapp brought out Megan Thee Stallion as part of her Saturday Night Live musical spot. The pair performed their collab “Not My Fault”, which they recorded for the newly released Mean Girls remake. The film is not directly a remake of the 2004 film, but a blend of the original film and the wildly popular Broadway musical. Furthermore, Rapp also performed her track “Snow Angel”, from her album of the same name released last year.

Mo’Nique’s Brother’s Oprah Interview Resurfaces After Actress Admits She Felt Betrayed

Mo’Nique’s recent interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay was jam-packed with revelations. She opened up about being blackballed from the entertainment industry, speaking out against Black icons, being shunned by her peers, and more. At one point in the interview, she reflected on Oprah’s 2010 interview with several of her family members. The interview, which took place only days after she won a Grammy for her role in Precious, revolved around her older brother Gerald, who sexually assaulted her as a child.

According to Mo’Nique, Oprah had called her before having her brother on the show, which she felt grateful for. She recalls telling Oprah that she was okay with Gerald being interviewed, despite not wanting to be involved. She also says that she was never asked about other family members, including her parents and grandparents, appearing on the show. Mo’Nique admits that she was shocked to see them all in commercials later discussing such a traumatic experience for her.

Oprah And Gerald Discuss His Crimes Against Mo’Nique

“I start seeing commercials with my mother and my father, and my other brother who used to be my manager who knew the fear that I had with the brother that was up onstage,” she described. “We never talked about my mother being there. You know how you feel about your grandparents? You know the honor, and how you speak about them? Imagine you then seeing your granddaddy and your grandmamma on a show and they’re talking about somebody that violated you. And that woman didn’t tell you that they were going to be there.”

Now, clips from the interview are also making their rounds online, showing Gerald admitting to his crimes. Charlamagne Tha God Responds To Mo’Nique’s “Breakfast Club” Bashing

Mo’Nique’s recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay, as is seemingly becoming typical for the podcast, was quite wild and elicited a lot of reactions. She spoke on many industry topics, interpersonal drama, past criticism, and previous ruffles with the likes of Netflix in 2018 over racial and gender bias. Moreover, this call to boycott the streaming service resulted in the actress getting a “Donkey of the Day” title from Charlamagne Tha God on The Breakfast Club. A tense interview followed that, and in 2022, she and Netflix “amicably resolved” a discrimination lawsuit and she got a comedy special shortly after.

Now, the Maryland native looked back on this exchange with Charlamagne and the radio show with Sharpe, and had some choice words. “People were having call-ins when I said, ‘This is not right,’” Mo’Nique shared with Shannon Sharpe. “I was ‘Donkey of the Day.’ Remember that? The Breakfast Nubs called me the ‘Donkey of the Day.’ That’s what they said. And they had a whole call-in about how I was the ‘Donkey of the Day.’ But you didn’t do the same thing when you found out we settled.”

The Breakfast Club Discusses Mo’Nique’s Club Shay Shay Comments: Watch

Furthermore, it seems like this whole exchange taught The Breakfast Club, and Charlamagne Tha God in particular, a valuable lesson. He gave some thoughts on Mo’Nique’s comments during the show’s latest episode, taking the moment to fix some previous wrongs in her eyes. “We gave Mo’Nique big love when the Netflix special happened,” the media personality expressed on air. “And I said, ‘You know what? That’s why I need to mind my damn business when it comes to other people’s business.’”

Meanwhile, another notable claim that the 56-year-old shared on Club Shay Shay was about a previously viral episode on that show with Katt Williams. “Everything Katt Williams sat here and said, we all know it to be the truth,” she stated. “However, we get so caught up in, ‘Well, I ain’t gonna say nothing. Can you believe he said it?’ […] It’s the messenger, baby. We get so caught up in the messenger that we’ll overlook the message.” For more news and the latest updates on Mo’Nique and Charlamagne Tha God, log back into HNHH.

D.L. Hughley Calls Mo’Nique A “Liar” For “Club Shay Shay” Comments

D.L. Hughley has addressed Mo’Nique’s comments about him during her recent Club Shay Shay interview, calling her a “liar”. “Every time I see Mo’Nique these days, she’s doing some greasy ass video with her and her daddy complaining about something or working out. “She said I was very dismissive. Mo’Nique’s a liar. When Mo’Nique did call me, I heard her complaints. I listened to her, and I pulled the segment. So, if I had been as dismissive as she alleges I was, that segment would have aired. It didn’t because I respected her wishes. She’s a liar,” Hughley said on Instagram.

Mo’Nique had claimed that Hughley had been “dismissive” of her concerns after an unpleasant experience on his radio show. According to Mo’Nique, while Hughley had not been present, his co-hosts had made her play “Would You Rather” and had included several unsavory questions about her husband. Hughley also claimed in his response that Mo’Nique’s comments about the sexual assault his daughter suffered were also untrue. Mo’Nique is yet to respond to Hughley’s scathing rebuttal.

Mo’Nique Slams Skip Bayless

Meanwhile, Hughley was not the only person who caught flak during the interview. Mo’Nique told Shannon Sharpe that she had been unable to watch Undisputed for two days after Skip Bayless disrespected him. While she expressed her admiration that Sharpe did not resort to violence, she revealed that her husband had to talk her back around to enjoying the show. She revealed that her husband sat her down and reminded her Sharpe could have ended Bayless if he had wanted to.

Sharpe left Undisputed abruptly after the NBA Finals last summer. While neither party has formally sat down and fully explained what happened, there appeared to be several factors in play. Sharpe appeared to have reached his tolerance for Bayless’ abrasive and often inflammatory style. Meanwhile, Bayless appeared eager to have the show revolve around him once more.

Mo’Nique Reveals The Type Of Woman She Wants Shannon Sharpe To Date

During her Club Shay Shay interview, Mo’Nique revealed the sort of woman she wants to see host Shannon Sharpe date. “Shannon needs needs an old, fat gal. Someone who bakes good cakes. Someone who can make a smothered turkey and rub his feet at the night time. You don’t need no 26-year-old girl. You don’t need no 36-year-old girl. This is your auntie talking to you. Take your ass and go get yourself an old b-tch out there,” Mo’Nique told a very amused Sharpe.

Of course, Sharpe’s dating life is a common topic across his various media ventures. Back in November 2023, Sharpe revealed that he wanted a “sinner” and specifically named adult actress Miss B. Nasty. “I don’t want nobody who is walking the straight and narrow,” Sharpe added as Chad Johnson responded with disappointment. It is certainly a surprising response as Sharpe has always been the sort of guy to shy away from overt sexuality when it is presented to him. Most recently, he appeared unsure as to whether he would support his partner running an OnlyFans account.

Mo’Nique Couldn’t Watch Undisputed After Skip Bayless Disrespected Shannon Sharpe

Elsewhere in the interview, Mo’Nique told Sharpe that she respected him for not “snatching [Skip] Bayless across the table” but that she had been unable to watch the Undisputed for two days after Skip told Sharpe to “put his glasses back on”. She was only able to come back to the show after her husband sat her down and reminded her Sharpe could have ended Bayless if he had wanted to.

Mo’Nique Claims Kevin Hart Ignored Her After Promising To Help Get Her Show Back

During her eagerly anticipated appearance on Club Shay Shay, Mo’Nique called out several of her peers for their past wrongdoings. She threw jabs at Tyler Perry, Oprah, Tiffany Haddish, and more. She even recalled being snubbed by Kevin Hart, claiming that he stopped talking to her once she was blackballed by the entertainment industry for speaking out about her experiences.

According to Mo’Nique, she and Hart had a solid relationship at one point, and he even assisted her and her family financially when they were trying to get back on their feet. She says that he offered to partner with her on something to allow her to work again, which she thought was perfect timing because she was in the process of trying to get her talk show back. “Don’t even worry about that,” she recalls Hart telling her. “Whatever y’all wanna do – I will partner with you. I’ll executive produce with you. You just let me know what you want to do.”

Mo’Nique On Club Shay Shay

“I said good sh*t, Kevin. Because we are in a deal with Endemol and we’re trying to get our talk show back,” she explains. Unfortunately, however, things didn’t play out the way she had expected. When she informed the company she was working with that Hart was going to be involved, they seemed excited to have him on board, but her dreams were soon dashed. Allegedly, she got a call from Endemol claiming that they had spoken with Hart’s manager, and he said Hart wasn’t interested in working with her.

She then called Hart up to let him know what happened, and he assured her it was simply a “miscommunication.” He promised to have a conversation with her later in the week but never heard from him again. “That was two years ago,” Mo’Nique revealed. Mo’Nique Slams Tiffany Haddish For DUIs On “Club Shay Shay” Following Shady Husband Comments

Mo’Nique’s Club Shay Shay interview finally dropped today, and expectedly, some of her comments have already stirred the pot. She responded to Tiffany Haddish, for one, who threw a bit of shade her way in 2018. When asked about her take on Mo’Nique calling for a Netflix boycott because she was allegedly lowballed, Haddish made a questionable comment to GQ about her husband, Sidney Hicks.

“I don’t live her life,” Haddish said at the time. “I don’t have that husband of hers. I’m looking at how [Netflix has] opened up so many opportunities for black females and comedy. When my people are dying, that’s when you gonna catch me protesting. I’m not gonna protest because somebody got offered not the amount of money they wanted to get offered.”

Mo’Nique Brings Up Tiffany Haddish’s DUIs And Child Grooming Allegations

According to Mo’Nique, however, Haddish might be better off with someone like Hicks. She brought up Haddish’s DUIs and her child grooming allegations during the interview, noting how she herself hasn’t dealt with anything similar. “When I saw that – it’s like Tiffany, if you had a husband like mine – you may not have two DUIs,” she explained. “If you had a husband like mine – you may not be caught up in what looks like you could have been grooming a child.”

“And I say all of that no judgment, but when you speak about having a husband like mine – you open up the door,” Mo’Nique also added. “And I’m saying to you – if you had one like mine you may not sit in these positions you can’t explain the next day or it’s a hard way to go.” What do you think of Mo’Nique’s recent comments on Tiffany Haddish? Do you agree with her, or do you think she crossed the line with her response? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Mo’Nique Recalls Encouraging Taraji P. Henson To Speak Up For Herself On “Club Shay Shay”

Mo’Nique’s eagerly anticipated Club Shay Shay episode finally arrived today, and the interview appears to have lived up to the hype. Countless supporters were hoping to hear her weigh in on Taraji P. Henson’s comments about working on The Color Purple, and she delivered. Hesnon raised concerns about how she and her castmates were treated on set, which sparked a larger discussion about how Black women are treated in the entertainment industry. Many noted that Mo’Nique tried to bring attention to these issues years ago. Unfortunately, however, her message didn’t reach nearly as many ears.

According to Mo’Nique, this is because people aren’t as willing to listen to her. As she puts it, she’s often expected to take what she can get as a plus-sized Black woman. She also notes that she’s called out Black icons by name previously, which others in the community haven’t appreciated. Mo’Nique says the fact that she wasn’t heard out when she brought attention to these issues is the reason that they happen time and time again.

Mo’Nique Says She Was Ignored Because She Called Out Black Icons By Name

“When I saw Taraji broken on those platforms it was painful to watch,” she begins in a clip. “However, Taraji and I had a conversation over a decade ago in my trailer when I was doing The Mo’Nique Show. She said, ‘You know you’ve got to keep on going until your turn comes.’ And I said, ‘Taraji, most of us die before our turn comes. We’ve got to ask for it right now.’ Now, I understand that because there was a time when I felt the same way. Because that’s what I was told… ‘We’ll get ’em the next time,’ and the next time never comes.
