Ben Simmons Enjoy The Slow Life With An Offseason Fishing Trip

Ben Simmons crashed out of the 2022/23 NBA season on March 28. The Australian combo player had struggled with nerve inflammation for most of the month, as well as dealing with a number of other injuries over the course of the season. The Nets, cautious about injuring Simmons further, opted to shut him down for the season as opposed to rushing him back for the playoffs.

Despite stating that his aim was to return to action at the FIBA World Cup, Simmons was not named to Australia’s 12-man roster. Meanwhile, Nets GM Sean Marks said that Simmons was not rushing his recovery. That became abundantly clear with Simmons’ latest Instagram post.

Simmons Gone Fishing

In a video posted to his Instagram, Simmons showed how he was taking some time away from the court to get in a spot of fishing. “Quick fishing trip for the weekend,” Simmons wrote as a caption. The video was quickly roasted along some familiar lines. “This n*gga been going fishing his entire career,” one person wrote. “Bro already in 2024 off-season mode😂,” added another. In 42 games last season, Simmons had 6.9/6.3/6.1 per game. While he has posted some updates since he went down, his progress has seemed minimal.

Simmons, the first-overall pick in 2016, has never really lived up to that status. Injuries have limited him to less than 60 games in each of the last three seasons and even then, his numbers have not been stellar. His best year was 2018/19 when he put 16.9/8.8/7.7 per game. And it’s not like the 2016 class was especially weak. Jaylen Brown, Jamal Murray, and Pascal Siakim were all 2016 draft picks as well. Entering his second season with the Nets, it’s unclear just how much time Simmons is going to spend on the court. That could prove costly, as he is owed nearly $80 million over the next two seasons. When do you think Simmons will return to action? Let us know in the comments. Follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.

“Book Of Hov” Jay-Z Exhibition Will Last Until October

According to Billboard, the new fan favorite “Book Of Hov” exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library will be sticking around. The exhibit opened earlier this month and had some pretty notable guests. Jay-Z himself was in attendance alongside Beyonce and Blue Ivy. Now interested fans have months to visit the free exhibit and look through pieces of the rapper’s legendary career. Even for those that can’t make it to Brooklyn, there are opportunities. The library’s website has an interactive addition to the exhibit that allows fans to scroll through all the available material online. It also features much of the information available at the in-person exhibit available for fans to digest online.

While many fans were thrilled about the new exhibit, one person who isn’t a big fan of it is Joe Budden. He said in a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast that he isn’t interested in the exhibit. Even as his co-hosts attempted to change his mind he stuck to his guns. He even claimed at one point that Jay-Z himself didn’t seem like he wanted to be there during the exhibits opening night.

Jay-Z Exhibit Isn’t Going Anywhere

Even though Jay-Z hasn’t released much music as of late, it hasn’t slowed down his accomplishments. Earlier this month he earned his 10th double platinum album. His 2009 album The Blueprint 3 officially hit the milestone making him the first rapper to achieve it. Drake and Eminem are the only other rappers to even approach the landmark achievement. That announcement came just a few days after the 10th anniversary of his 2013 effort Magna Carta… Holy Grail. His 12th album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and scored a top 5 hit with Holy Grail featuring Justin Timberlake.

Jay-Z also scored himself an Emmy nomination earlier this month. He was nominated for directing this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show which notably starred Rihana. The previous year’s Halftime show also scored an Emmy nomination, which it would go on to win. Do you agree with Joe Budden’s take on the Brooklyn Public Library’s Jay-Z exhibit? Drake Declares Sexyy Red His “Wife,” Kisses Her In New Picture

Drake has been on quite the expedition as of late. Overall, this is due to the fact that he is on the It’s All A Blur tour with the likes of 21 Savage. Although 21 has not been able to make it to the Canadian dates, he has been able to go everywhere else. So far, the tour has taken these men through Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Montreal, and now, Brooklyn. The two artists are set to perform in Brooklyn four times this week. On Tuesday night, they performed at the second of these shows.

Of course, these Brooklyn shows have had a ton of star power. Last night, Steph and Ayesha Curry were in the building. Subsequently, on Tuesday night, there were even more stars in attendance. Druski, Central Cee, and Lil Yachty were just some of the people who made it out to the Barclays Center. However, Sexyy Red was also there, and she certainly made a large impact on the evening as she got a shoutout from the Her Loss artist.

Drake x Sexyy Red

Following the show, Drake actually spent some time with Sexyy Red. In fact, he took to his Instagram story where he posted a couple of snaps in which the two are right next to each other. Drizzy is even kissing her on the cheek in these photos. “If my girl see y’all backstage being thirsty it’s gonna get smokey,” he wrote. “Just met my rightful wife.” This is a pretty large declaration from the artist, even if it isn’t serious.

Sexyy Red is having a huge moment right now. From the success of Pound Town to her album Hood Hottest Princess, things are going very well for her. Only time will tell whether or not she gets that Drake feature, in the future. Stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest news and updates from around the music world.

Gunna to Perform Two Headline Shows After Two Years

Screen Shot 2023 07 18 at 5.12.11 AM

Gunna is finally ready to get back to the main stage, and fans are now in luck as he announces two headlining shows. The first is titled The Gift, which will occur on September 9th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The second is titled The Curse, taking place at Youtube Theater in Los Angeles on September 28th.

This marks the first time the Atlanta rapper will perform as a headliner in over two years, especially since being released from jail after his plea in the YSL gang case. While Gunna didn’t testify or cooperate with the prosecution, he faced backlash from both fans and the hip-hop community.

The shows are aptly titled after his most recent album, Gift & a Curse, debuting at #2 on the Billboard 200. The 15-track project is his fourth studio album, hailing no features as Gunna addresses the snitching allegations. He also showcases his loyalty to YSL on the project.

Those who are Citi card members will have access to presale tickets starting on Tuesday, July 18th at 10 am local time. Visit www.citientertainment.com for more information. General on-sale starts Friday, July 21st on ticketmaster.com.

On a positive note, Gunna has partnered with PLUS1 so that a dollar from each ticket will support The Goodr Foundation’s work to provide healthy meals to youth, families, and seniors experiencing food insecurity.

Brooklyn Public Library Decorated With Jay-Z Lyrics

Jay-Z’s influence is as wide-reaching as any other rapper. Now his reach has come to a new unexpected but very welcome place. Fans first noticed yesterday when the Brooklyn Public Library was undergoing some changes. Now according to HipHopDX, they’re finished covering the front of the library with lyrics from various classic Jay-Z songs like “Smile,” “Encore,” and “Justify My Thug.” This isn’t just for decoration though. The library has a forthcoming exhibit that will serve as a “personal shrine” to Jay himself in his hometowns library. The library will reportedly be closed today as they prep for the exhibit to begin tomorrow.

Jay-Z’s range also extends to the world of TV. Yesterday, when the Emmy nominations were announced his name was among them. He was nominated for an award for directing Rihanna’s Superbowl Halftime show earlier this year. The 2022 Superbowl halftime show took home an Emmy award during last year’s ceremony and Roc Nation has the chance to go back-to-back at this year’s show. Because both the writer’s and actors’ guilds are currently on strike it’s unclear when exactly the Emmys will happen but whenever they do Jay could add a new trophy to his decorated history of award wins.

Jay-Z Lyrics Coating Brooklyn Public Library

Jay-Z is also making waves in the business world with Roc Nation Sports. The company has made two big moves this week to try and enter the world of international soccer. Firstly, they acquired a major soccer agency in Brazil that represents some of the country’s biggest players. Just a few days later they reached a deal with Italy’s Serie A soccer league. The deal aims to promote Italian soccer across North America through the lens of Roc Nation.

Jay-Z hasn’t released a new studio album since 2017’s confessional 4:44. Despite that his music continues to be celebrated consistently. Just last week it was the 10th anniversary of his album Magna Carta… Holy Grail which had fans reflecting on the project. What do you think of Jay-Z getting his own exhibit in his hometown Brooklyn Public Library? Let us know in the comment section below.

Lola Brooke Taps Yung Miami & Latto For Massive “Don’t Play With It (Remix)”

Lola Brooke became one of the IT artists over the past few months. With “Don’t Play With It,” she became the next promising star nearly a year after its release. The rising Brooklyn rapper earned co-signs from Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, and a number of other A-listers. Meanwhile, artists like Future and A Boogie With The Hoodie extended their own praise to Lola Brooke. It’s only a matter of time until her breakout moment and becomes the next big star out of NYC.

In the past few months, she’s unloaded a handful of new singles, which presumably will lead the campaign for a debut project. Today, however, she revisited her breakout hit and added some star power to the record. Alongside Yung Miami and Latto, Lola Brooke debuted the “Don’t Play With It (Remix)” earlier today. The drill-centric production becomes a perfect canvas for Latto to pop her sh*t and take aim at her detractors. What Yung Miami lacks in lyricism, she makes up for with her attitude, while doubling down on her singledom with Diddy’s approval.

Lola Brooke’s Star-Studded Remix

Lola Brooke continues to keep the rap game on their toes for what she has in store but with “Don’t Play With It (Remix),” she’ll definitely keep the momentum high. The rapper recently dropped off her first single of the year, “So Disrespectful,” highlighting her sleek flow, deep voice, and quick-witted wordplay.

Lola Brooke revealed to HNHH that the title of her project is going to be titled, Little Big Momma. Though no release date has been set, she explained that she wants to ensure that her fanbase can appreciate everything that she offers on the body of work. “I know what they deserve,” she said. “They deserve everything but I need my fans to tell me what they need for me. It’s there, but it’s not all the way there yet. I need to still learn them as well as they learn me.” Check the remix above.

Quotable Lyrics
Hundred bands, fuck is a hundred bands?
You fuck like a hundred n***as, ain’t got one man
You fuck like a hundred n***as, ain’t got one hit
Whole lot of motherfuckers speakin’ on me that ain’t done shit
