Drake‘s new single, “Slime You Out,” featuring SZA, has made a No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100. Proving Charlamagne Tha God was wrong about his assessment of the song.
The song is the 12th No. 1 single for Drake, bringing him into a tie for fifth most all time. It is the second for SZA, who also is in the Top 3 with the acoustic version of her hit “Snooze” with Justin Bieber.
According to Luminate, “Slime You Out” tallied an impressive 32.6 million streams, garnered 5.2 million radio airplay audience impressions, and achieved 2,000 downloads in the week ending Sept. 21.
Drake now only trails Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and The Beatles. Once he tops the last one, his line on “Going Bad”: “I have more slaps than The Beatles” will officially ring true.
Drake’s most recent No. 1 was “Jimmy Cooks” from the Honestly, Nevermind album.
Drake and SZA’s “Slime You Out” kicked off the soon-to-come release of Drizzy’s album For All The Dogs, and got him one step closer to the history books. Moreover, that song went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, marking his twelfth number one hit and putting him right up there with the legendary Michael Jackson. He has thirteen chart-topping tracks, which means the Toronto rapper is now just one song away from tying him for the fourth-most number ones in Billboard history so far. If you’re curious, he’s currently tied with Madonna and The Supremes for the fifth spot.
Of course, it’s fair to assume that one more track from For All The Dogs might just cinch this achievement for the 36-year-old. Given that his career shows no signs of slowing down, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him work his way up. Ahead of Drake are frequent collaborator Rihanna (14 number ones) and Mariah Carey (19 number ones). At the very top of the list are The Beatles, who have 20 tracks that claimed the top spot across their discography.
In addition, this also marks one of the only hip-hop-adjacent songs that went No. 1 on Billboard this year- the second, to be exact. The first was Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red,” which ended a drought in this metric for the genre that existed since Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl.” Furthermore, this history sparked a hotly contested conversation around whether rap is a “dying” style, something that artists like Drake continue to disprove. It might not have the same chart-topping record as previous years, but it’s also the calm after a storm that dominated the early 2020s and mid-to-late 2010s. As such, we can’t really complain.
Meanwhile, the OVO superstar also has a lot to look back on and appreciate when it comes to his career. His 2013 album Nothing Was The Same, which established him as a top dog in the game, recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. While reflecting on his previous success, we’ll see if his future one puts The Boy right next to MJ. For more news and the latest updates on Drake and Michael Jackson, stay logged into HNHH.
For just the second time this year, a rap song is number one on the Hot 100. Following a drought for the genre that lasted over a year, Doja Cat hit the top of the charts with her song “Paint The Town Red” a few weeks ago. But now, Drake and SZA’s new collaboration “Slime You Out” has become the first rap song to debut at number one in 2023. Drake himself almost ended the drought earlier this year when his song “Search & Rescue” reached number two on the chart. The achievement comes entangled with a number of major chart milestones for both the rapper himself and the genre.
After a year where the top of the charts have been dominated by country music, rap, and R&B songs now occupy the top three spots. Behind “Slime You Out” is Doja’s “Paint The Town Red” which stayed put at number 2 in its seventh week on the charts. Behind that is SZA’s SOS single “Snooze” which reached a new peak of number 3 after nearly 10 months on the charts. “Slime You Out” is the second time SZA has hit number one on the Hot 100, following her song “Kill Bill” topping the charts earlier this year. She’s the first artist to top the charts with two different songs this year. For Drake, it’s his 12th number one, something no other rapper has ever achieved.
Drake is now in a three-way tie with The Supremes and Madonna for the sixth most #1 songs on the Hot 100 in the chart’s decorated history. Only Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and The Beatles have scored more number ones than the “Search & Rescue” rapper.
“Slime You Out” is the lead single for Drake’s upcoming new albumFor All The Dogs. He’s been teasing the project all summer and it’s expected to be released next month. The 2000s was a significant and transformative decade for rap music, and birthed many hits as a result. This era saw the Hip Hop genre evolve in various ways. From the emergence of new subgenres to the rise of now-iconic artists, the decade was a remarkable one for Hip Hop. Furthermore, the increasing influence of Hip Hop culture on mainstream pop culture grew significantly.
Artists like 50 Cent, Missy Elliott, and Kanye West, among many others, dominated the rap charts and beyond, making an indelible mark on the music industry. Music in the 2000s was rich and diverse, and artists delivered multiple hits in abundance. However, the decade had some defining tracks that shone brighter than the rest. These handfuls of massive hits cemented the genre’s mainstream appeal unlike ever seen before at the time.
“Dilemma” is a timeless Hip Hop and R&B collaboration, and one of the most defining hits of the 2000s. Upon release, it gained prominence for its catchy melody, romantic lyrics, and iconic music video (and the misuse of Excel spreadsheets). It was released on June 25, 2002, as the second single from Nelly’s sophomore studio album, Nellyville. “Dilemma” was the rapper’s second consecutive number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, following Nellyville’s lead single “Hot in Herre.” The smash hit by Nelly and Kelly Rowland was an extraordinary commercial success, and ended the 2000s as the 11th biggest track on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2021, the song’s music video hit one billion views on YouTube. Moreover, “Dilemma” topped the Hot Rap Songs chart for 10 weeks.
An iconic song from an equally iconic rapper, “In Da Club” is not just 50 Cent’s most recognizable song, but one of the 2000s biggest hits. The party anthem was widely lauded for its catchy lyrics and heavy production, courtesy of Dr. Dre. Additionally, it played a significant role in catapulting 50 Cent to stardom. Even now, two decades after its release, the song continues to be heavily streamed on digital platforms. “In Da Club” was an explosive commercial success, and peaked at number one on both the Hot 100 and Hot Rap Songs charts. Additionally, it rounded up the year 2003 as the number one song on both year-end charts.
“Lollipop” was released as the lead single from Lil Wayne’s monumental sixth studio album, Tha Carter III. It is a catchy and playful Hip Hop track that propelled Wayne to new commercial heights through its infectious melody and suggestive lyrics. Upon its release, “Lollipop” took over the radio, and dominated the charts as well. It topped both the Hot 100 and the Hot Rap Songs charts, and has since been certified Diamond by the RIAA. The song’s chart-topping success and mainstream appeal solidified it as one of the standout hits of the late 2000s, and one of the biggest Hip Hop tracks of the entire decade.
“Lean Back” was released on June 8, 2004, as the second single from Terror Squad’s sophomore album, True Story. The track is led by two prominent members of the collective, Fat Joe and Remy Ma. It didn’t take long after its release for “Lean Back” to climb to the very top of charts worldwide. Accompanied by a simple yet fun dance, it was a massive commercial hit and peaked at number one on several charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Rap Songs charts. The track’s success and cultural impact cemented it as a notable moment in the Hip Hop landscape of the 2000s.
“Work It” is undeniably one of Missy Elliot’s biggest hits and a defining single of the 2000s. It is also her most successful on the charts. She remains one of Hip Hop’s most influential female rappers of all time and has an impressive discography to support the claim.
“Work It” is known for its innovative production, including reversed lyrics and quirky sound effects. The record achieved widespread commercial success upon its release. It almost cinched the top spot on the Hot 100 chart, but ultimately had to settle for number two. It completely dominated the Hot Rap Songs chart, however, and stayed at number one for 12 weeks.
Snoop Dogg – “Drop It Like It’s Hot” Ft. Pharrell Williams (2004)
The laid-back and minimalist production on “Drop It Like It’s Hot” proved that Hip Hop hits come in a number of different ways. “Drop It Like It’s Hot” was the lead single from Snoop Dogg’s seventh studio album, R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece. It achieved remarkable commercial success upon its release, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Rap Songs charts. Additionally, it was the number one song on the decade-end Hot Rap Songs chart.
Jay-Z – “Empire State of Mind” Ft. Alicia Keys (2009)
Jay-Z and Alicia Keys closed out the 2000s with a bang after they released “Empire State of Mind.” The track officially dropped on October 20, 2009, as the third single from Hov’s iconic album, The Blueprint 3. “Empire State of Mind” has broad mainstream appeal, and despite it being an ode to New York City, it attracted listeners from various backgrounds all over the world. It is a quintessential part of the 2000s decade, and one of the most successful Hip Hop hits of the decade as well. “Empire State of Mind” peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Rap Songs charts. It is also widely regarded as a classic in the Hip Hop scene.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are continuing to rack up impressive chart achievements for their new single “Bongos.” Earlier this week the song made its debut on the Hot 100. It landed at number 14 in its first week directly in the middle of a sea of songs from Olivia Rodrigo’s new album. While this is Megan Thee Stallion’s first appearance on the Hot 100 this year, Cardi has had another collaboration sticking on the charts for months. She teamed up with Latto for “Put It On Da Floor Again” which debuted at number 13.
As it turns out, “Bongos” had an even more impressive debut on other charts. The song hit the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this morning and climbed even higher. The track debuted at number 4 making it their second collaboration to reach the top 5 following “WAP.” WAP topped the chart back in 2020 during the same week it reached number one on the Hot 100 itself. The pair have managed to find success with both their collaborations and as individual artists on the charts. Listen to “Bongos” below.
Cardi B And Megan The Stallion Score Top 5 Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Debut
Unfortunately for Cardi B fans, despite the release of a new single they’ll have to keep waiting for a new album. After teasing her second project on and off all year she officially confirmed that the project wouldn’t arrive until 2024. While she hasn’t confirmed whether or not “Bongos” is officially the first single, the song has rushed out to early success regardless.
Megan Thee Stallion has also been teasing her fans with the potential of new music. After sharing pics from the studio earlier this year she confirmed that she’s been working on new tunes. “Bongos” was her first new single of 2023 so far. Jacquees is upset with Billboard after the outlet featured a photo of singer Zae France instead of Jacquees while covering his appearance on Diddy’s new project, The Love Album: Off The Grid. Jacquees reacted to the since-deleted video in a post on Twitter, over the weekend.
“Man if y’all don’t fire whoever the fuck posted this,” he wrote while sharing the mistake. “Come on wit the games.” Fans shared plenty of laughs in response to the post. One complained that Billboard is “fumbling again when it comes to R&B and Hip Hop. It’s sad that there are not any reputable platforms for either genre smh.”
Jacquees makes an appearance on the sixth track off of The Love Album: Off The Grid, “Pick Up.” He’s one of many other stars of R&B to feature on the project, including The Weeknd, Swae Lee, Summer Walker, and more. Diddy explained how he narrowed down who he wanted on the project during an episode of The Love Radio Takeover on Apple Music 1, last week. “I wanted to work with different voices that I never had a chance to work with in R&B. I wanted to unify R&B because I believe that R&B is not getting the right lens,” he said. “I want to tell you some Black people, we do look alike. I could dig that, but Hip-Hop and R&B are two different things.”

“We’re coming with this album to make it clear that R&B is here,” Diddy further said on Apple Music 1. “There’s an R&B resurgence and we all got together. This is not just my album. This is our album. Everybody that’s on the album from Summer Walker to Jozzy. Teyana Taylor, Babyface, John Legend and so many more.”
Megan Thee Stallion is obviously the first name that comes to mind when we think of Hot Girl Summer, but still, the Houston native was understandably quiet during the warmest season of the year in 2023. It was just a few weeks ago that her shooter, Tory Lanez, was sentenced to 10 years in jail for his crimes, and while he remains behind bars for the foreseeable future, that hasn’t stopped the R&B star’s fanbase from continuing to berate the “Cocky AF” hitmaker.
On Tuesday (September 19) a new interview between Billboard and the black-haired beauty dropped, revealing what her future plans are in terms of music. Of course, she recently made her presence felt with a feature on Cardi B’s “Bongos,” though that joint effort isn’t being quite as well received as their first link-up, “WAP” was. “I feel like I’m finally closing all the old chapters and now I’m starting with a blank slate,” Thee Stallion shared with the outlet. “Very fresh, very new. I think the Hotties are gonna be so excited.”
“I’m trying different things. I got a lot of things that I produced with Ju and with some new producers,” Thee Stallion continues to tease, sharing that she spent some time behind the piano while out of the spotlight. “Expect the unexpected. Expect a lot of rawness, a lot of realness, a lot of s**t talking. Just know I’m coming and I hope everybody ready,” she warned her competitors.
It’s evident even just from her online energy that Megan Thee Stallion is getting back into the groove of life as a hip-hop superstar. However, just because she’s feeling herself in her new twerking and workout videos doesn’t mean everyone else is. In fact, controversial streamer Adin Ross made it abundantly clear that he’s still team Tory Lanez earlier this week. Read what he had to say at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
Megan Thee Stallion says that she “loves the creative freedom” that Cardi B allows her during her collaborations. Megan reflected on their collaborative process and her friendship with Cardi during a new interview with Billboard. The piece comes after the release of Megan and Cardi’s latest single, “Bongos.”
“It was so much fun!” Megan said of getting in the studio with Cardi. “Every time me and Cardi link up, it ain’t nothing but laughs and a whole party. Both our teams absolutely love each other. Everybody hangs out on their own time anyway, so it kind of felt like we was going out every morning. Oop, Cardi had me waking up so early for these damn — lemme not even curse — Cardi had me waking up so early for these shoots!”
From there, she revealed that Cardi would have her up at 3:00 AM to start getting ready for the music video shoots for “Bongos.” Of working with Cardi, she later added: “Speaking to the collaborator part like, she literally just let me do me. This is the second time she’s sent me a song, and I’ll be like, ‘Friend, can I do whatever I want to do on the beat? I’m finna put two verses on here, all right?’ She always let me do whatever I want to do creatively. I just appreciate that so much because sometimes people try to give you a direction and they want you to do what they want you to do, but she’s like ‘Megan, what you think?’ She’ll ask me what I think about this song like, ‘OK, how you think we could make it better? What should we do next? Just do whatever you wanna do and then we’ll piece it together.’”
Megan and Cardi first made waves as collaborators following their 2020 single, “WAP.” The track generated the largest number of first-week streams in Billboard history after release. The RIAA has since certified it eight-time platinum in the United States.
Since her high school days, Ciara had an unwavering belief that she was destined for a successful music career. Her confidence in making chart-topping music had been a constant presence in her life since then. She foresaw her success long before it became a reality. This unwavering determination fueled her journey to becoming a multi-talented singer and a chart-topping sensation. This manifested her early aspirations into a remarkable reality. Now, Ciara has not only demonstrated a lengthy and prosperous career but also one that is undeniably still flourishing.
During a recent interview with Billboard, the R&B singer reminisced about a dream she had. When she graduated from Riverdale High School in 2003, she made a prediction that she still remembers. She confidently stated her goal of reaching the top of the Billboard singles chart within a year.
“I was on camera, documented right at the graduation, and the guy said, ‘So, Ciara, where do you see yourself a year from now?’” she remembered. “And in my super-Atlanta thick accent, I said, ‘I see myself having the No. 1 song on the Billboard charts!’ And then literally, “Goodies”was No. 1 on the Billboard charts. I dreamed big!” Ciara has definitely surpassed and achieved numerous goals related to her music. Some of her accomplishments include having her debut album Goodies reach No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart when it first came out in 2004.
Additionally, the singles from the album, “1, 2 Step,” “Goodies,” and “Oh” all reached the top three positions on the Billboard Hot 100. Moreover, Ciara won a Grammy in 2006 for “Lose Control” with Missy Elliott and Fatman Scoop, and was nominated in 2010 for “Love Sex Magic” ft. Justin Timberlake. Anticipating the 20th-anniversary of Goodies coming up next year, Ciara admitted that she’s just getting started. “I feel blessed,” she said. “I feel like I’m just getting started at the same time. To know that it was 20 years ago that I was just really, really ambitious… dreaming big, I envisioned that I’d be sitting somewhere like this 20 years later.”
Cardi B is learning sometimes it’s best to not clap back at her haters. While she isn’t exactly known for picking fights with just anyone, she has had a number of high-profile battles in her past, Now, in a new interview on The Sprout Podcast she spoke on learning new ways to deal with haters. “Surprisingly, I have held myself back a lot … from a lot of things,” she begins. “You see how Beyoncé addresses her things — she does not address them at all,” Cardi elaborates. She’s not kidding either. Beyonce has dodged plenty of hate and the occasional controversy in recent years by saying very little of anything publicly.
Carrying on in the conversation though, Cardi B explains that every artist handles things differently. I feel like every artist should do what works for them and what’s good for they mental health because I feel like, if addressing things to Beyoncé affects her mental health, then don’t do it,” she concludes. “But me, bottling things inside and let people, like, front certain narratives of me, it will bother me inside. So, I’d rather just let it out.” Check out the story below.
Earlier this week, Cardi B revealed to fans that they won’t be getting a new album this year. After much teasing she ultimately promised that 2024 would be when her long-awaited second project dropped. Instead, she’s shifted into hyping up her husband new album. Offset just announced that his first new record since 2019 Set It Off would be dropping on October 13.
Cardi B shared Offset’s post announcing the new album to her Instagram story. In the accompanying caption she stressed just how much work had gone into the record and claimed that she thought it was worthy of a Grammy. She also recently called into a 24-hour livestream Offset did to promote the project and spawned a hilarious moment.
