Beyoncé, Kate Bush, And 2022’s Other Best Music Moments Get Broken Down In A New Top 5 Video

We’re at the point in the year where it’s not quite done yet, but done enough to start looking back on everything that happened. That’s especially true of music, as year-end list season is in full swing (Uproxx recently ran our top albums and songs of the year lists, for example). 2022 was busy, but in a new “Top 5” video, host Jackie Powell condenses the past few months into five key moments.

She begins with one of the year’s biggest album releases: Beyoncé’s Renaissance. The comeback project was Queen Bey’s first album since 2016’s iconic Lemonade and the follow-up has earned similar acclaim. Both the album and lead single “Break My Soul” spent some time at No. 1 on their respective Billboard charts, and zooming out, the project added a new dimension to Beyoncé’s already complex and beautiful legacy.

One of 2022’s other most notable figures was Kate Bush, who had an unexpectedly prosperous year thanks to Stranger Things making her 1985 single “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” one of the year’s biggest songs. It topped Billboard‘s global chart, artists like Coldplay covered it, and it got Bush some hefty checks. Bush herself couldn’t really believe the tune’s resurgence, but stranger things have happened.

As for what else the “Top 5” video covers, you’ll have to watch above to find out.

Beyoncé Is Reportedly Having Her Crew Remain Sober And Undergo ‘Me Too Checks’ Ahead Of Her ‘Renaissance’ Tour

Though Beyoncé hasn’t officially announced her Renaissance tour, it’s become one of the buzziest of the upcoming year. Plans of the Renaissance tour were revealed back in October at WACO Theater‘s Wearable Art Gala 2022, where a lavish tour package was up for auction.

According to The Sun, Beyoncé is in high gear planning for her tour. A source close to the tour told The Sun that Bey is enforcing a ban on alcohol and drugs during rehearsals and tour dates.

“Bey knows the new performances will require intense choreography and precision, so everyone has to be clean and sober,” said the source. “There won’t be any crazy partying on the road either.”

The source also revealed that each crew member will be thoroughly background-checked, in order to prevent sexual misconduct during the tour.

“She is also carrying out #MeToo checks with the dancers, band and crew with hopes doing so will make the tour a safe and friendly work environment,” said the source.

Additionally, Bey will be providing her tour crew with access to mental health support and resources.

“She knows people are happiest when they know their well-being is fulfilled,” said the source, “and wants to use what she has learned in the business to lead by example.”

Beyoncé & Blue Ivy Look Like Twins In Throwback Snapshot

Beyoncé has made a tradition of wishing her fellow celebrities a happy birthday by sharing their childhood photos on social media. In the past, stars like Lizzo have been left amazed by celebratory greetings from the Lemonade hitmaker. Somehow, she surprisingly seems to mysteriously conjure up the snapshots out of thin air.

It’s not her birthday, but now Queen B is going viral for some throwback pictures of her own. Earlier this week a 1990s capture that finds the mother of three getting her hair braided began circulating. The main topic of conversation surrounding the image is how the vocalist’s oldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, undeniably resembles her.

“Nah that’s Blue Ivy with a ’90s filter,” one person joked.

Additionally, others quickly noticed that the hairdresser resembles another famous face who has close ties to Beyoncé – Chloe Bailey. Though there’s an obvious age difference between the two, it’s hard to argue with the undeniably similar features they share.

“Blue Ivy getting her hair braided by Chloe Bailey in Houston, Texas (2022),” one Twitter user wrote, mimicking the original caption. Another asked, “This isn’t Chloe Bailey doing Blue Ivy’s hair?”

The comments may be comparing her to her mother now, but in the past, the 10-year-old has made headlines for her resemblance to her father, Jay-Z, as well.

In January, the young fashionista made waves with the rap mogul at a Rams Game. At the time, Hov was in full dad mode as he took photos of his daughter and Rihanna.

The very next month, the pair hit up the Super Bowl together, with Jay-Z acting as cameraman once again. Read more about that here, and check back in with HNHH later for more pop culture news updates.

A Photo Of Young Beyoncé Has Fans Fawning Over Her Resemblance To Blue Ivy

Look, it should come as no surprise that kids look like their parents but that isn’t stopping Beyoncé from fawning over her resemblance to her daughter Blue Ivy in a newly resurfaced photo from her youth. Purporting to be from 1990, the photo shows a young Beyoncé getting her hair braided at a Houston beauty salon, but the angle, lighting, and yes, genetics do make her look almost exactly like her 10-year-old daughter. Funnily enough, fans also noticed that the hairdresser bears a sharp resemblance to Beyoncé’s protege, Chloe Bailey, causing both names to trend on Twitter.

So, what’s Beyoncé actually up to lately? Well, she dropped her long-awaited comeback album Renaissance back in August, although a perceived lack of music videos from the project obviously has her fans hungry for more content. Meanwhile, Blue has been experiencing the highs and lows of being a celebrity pre-teen; although she gets to do things like casually bid $80,000 on items at charity auctions, it seems she still gets just as embarrassed by her parents as any kid, even when she’s sitting courtside at the NBA Finals and her parents are Beyoncé and Jay-Z. And hey, just for the record, Chlöe seems to be doing just fine, too, recently sharing the latest single from her upcoming debut album, “For The Night” featuring Latto, and enjoying coming into her sex appeal on her own terms.

‘Forbes’ Names Rihanna, Taylor Swift, And Beyoncé The Most Powerful Women In Music For 2022

From the hijab protest in Iran to the overturning of Roe v. Wade here in the United States, this year has been a challenging year for so many minority groups around the world but especially women. Serving as a beacon of hope, Forbes‘ annual The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list could not have come at a better time.

In the number-one slot is European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen. As this year was a widely political year, that comes as no surprise, however, the list starts to get interesting once musicians are introduced. This year’s highest-ranked musician is “Lift Me Up” singer Rihanna at number 73.

Before making her musical return by way of the Wakanda Forever Soundtrack, the entrepreneur kept herself busy with her company Savage X Fenty’s line expansion and annual fashion show. This year also marked a few firsts for her. Rihanna celebrated her first National Heroes Day as an honoree in her home country of Barbados, in addition to becoming a first-time mother. Now, Rihanna is planning her true return to music space in the biggest way possible, with a performance at the Superbowl Halftime show.

The second highest-ranked musician was Taylor Swift in the number 79 spot. The “Anti-Hero” singer flexed her impact with an impressive run on Billboard‘s Hot 100 charts and a site-crashing tour general ticket sale.

“Break My Soul” singer Beyoncé is the last musician to make the cut coming in at number 80. With a monumental return to music, Beyoncé’s seventh studio album, Renaissance, broke a plethora of records at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Although Beyoncé is currently tied with her husband, Jay-Z, as the most-nominated artist of all time, she only needs four wins to become the highest-awarded artist by the Recording Academy of all time.

Other media and entertainment professionals that made the list include Oprah Winfrey, at number 24, the chairwoman of Disney General Entertainment Content, Dana Walden, at number 41, the Head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, at number 58, chairwoman of Universal Pictures Donna Langley at number 61, FOX News CEO Suzanne Scott at number 65, actress Reese Witherspoon at number 86, television producer Shonda Rhimes at number 93, and Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu at number 99.

Beyoncé’s ‘Break My Soul’ Mega-Cut Video Is A Tribute To The Bey-Hive For Their Fierce Support

While many of the world’s biggest musical acts have super fans, none are quite as loyal as Beyoncé’s Bey-Hive (more commonly referred to as the Hive). With a thirty-year career, the singer has built an unwavering bond with her supporters that many have tried to replicate.

Even after her seventh studio album, Renaissance, leaked earlier this summer, fans waited until the album was made public as their Queen Bey intended. Now, the “Break My Soul” singer is returning the love with a super-cut mashup video dedicated to them.

The video titled “Break My Soul (Hive Certified)” features a mega-cut of the songwriter’s most publicly supportive fans. TikTok star Otakoyakisoba’s mother, affectionately known as Mama Lulu, opens the video with the viral line, “get out of here before I break your soul.” Then the party begins with a collage of fans of all ages, gender expressions, and races dancing along to the track. Sprinkled throughout the video are a few familiar faces. The music star’s mother, Tina Lawson, actress Gabrielle Union, producer Amorphous, RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Yvie Oddly, and media personality Kalen Allen all make an appearance.

In the description box of the visual, she left a message for her fans, “Thank you so much for all the love and for releasing the wiggle.”

This may not be the official video fans demanded online, but it will have to hold them over until the drop.

When Will Beyoncé Go On Tour For ‘Renaissance?’

Beyoncé fans are eagerly awaiting to experience the songs from Renaissance live, especially considering it’s packed with danceable house anthems that would definitely make a crowd move fervently. While the singer hasn’t officially announced a tour, there are promising rumors circulating online, giving fans reasons to get excited.

Page Six has recently reported that Renaissance will finally be taken on the road soon, according to what multiple inside sources told the magazine. One revealed that Beyoncé is booking stadiums around the world for next summer, and another divulged that an announcement will be made in the coming weeks. Nothing is confirmed but there is hope on the horizon at least.

In the meantime, Beyoncé has kept busy in wholesome ways. She recently had a personal gift shipped to Abbott Elementary‘s Sheryl Lee Ralph, in celebration of her recent Emmy win for Best Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series. Ralph became just the second Black woman to win in that category at last week’s Emmy Awards. Along with the bouquet of yellow and white flowers, Beyoncé wrote Ralph a special note, referencing the role of Deena Jones in Dreamgirls that they both played (Ralph in the 1981 Broadway debut, Beyoncé in the 2006 movie).
