Why Hasn’t Nicki Minaj Received A Grammy?

Nicki Minaj is known as the queen of rap. The superstar has sold millions of records and was even recently the first female rapper since Lauryn Hill to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200. In addition, Nicki Minaj has inspired a generation of artists of all genders. Despite her success and invaluable influence, she has never won music’s highest honor, a Grammy.

Minaj has released countless songs that should have won her a Grammy award. She arguably has some of the best bars of all time, making her a superior lyricist. Nicki not winning a Grammy has caused many fans to lose trust in the award ceremony. Unfortunately, there is one big reason from music history that most believe is why she has never, and maybe will never, win. In fact, Nicki’s beef with the Grammys continues as the rapper called them out just last year for the category she was to be considered for.

The strife between Nicki Minaj and the Grammys is legendary. She has spoken openly about being blackballed from the ceremony, and The Recording Academy has not refuted her claims. Nicki is super talented and influential, but there is one main reason she has never won a Grammy.

That Infamous 2012 Performance

Of course, there’s no real way to be sure it’s why Nicki Minaj has never won a Grammy. However, most who were around for the fallout of her 2012 Grammy performance would say it’s the cause. The prolific rapper took the stage at the 54th annual ceremony and performed her song “Roman Holiday.” Though a fan favorite, the display ruffled feathers as it depicted an exorcism. For context, this was just days after the late great Whitney Houston passed away.

Nicki said Grammy producers wanted her to cancel the performance. They wanted this partly due to Whitney’s untimely passing and the controversy it would cause. In particular, it was Ken Erhlich who wanted her to cancel. As history shows, the performance did bring a great deal of controversy. The Catholic League issued a statement, the show drew disgruntled comments from some viewers, and the Washington Post questioned if Nicki had ruined her career. In discussing Minaj’s performance, Grammy producers used the word “disappointment” to describe it.

Nicki Minaj Has Publicly Addressed The Backlash

Nicki Minaj stayed quiet about the situation with the Grammys for quite a while. However, she decided years later that it was time to shed light on the issue. This came after labelmate Ariana Grande experienced issues with the same Grammy producer and decided to call him out.

First, Nicki responded to a fan on Twitter who wondered why she had never won a Grammy. Then, the multi-talented rapper addressed it on an episode of Queen Radio. Nicki went on to say that she was bullied by the Grammys and by Ken in particular. She also explained why she didn’t want to call off the Grammy performance. Minaj reportedly stated she worked so hard for that moment, and her fans were excited. Nicki didn’t want to disappoint her fans by canceling the performance last minute.

Recent Grammy Drama

Nicki Minaj has been nominated for several trophies despite never winning a Grammy. Unfortunately, her beef with the award ceremony was reignited in 2022 over the category her song was submitted for. Nicki released “Super Freaky Girl” in the summer of 2022, and it quickly shot to No. 1 on the Billboard charts. However, when it was revealed that the song would compete in the pop category and not rap, Nicki once again called out the organization. She also cited Latto’s song “Big Energy” being considered for rap categories as proof they were rigged.

Nicki mentioning Latto caused drama with the up-and-coming rapper. Latto said she couldn’t enjoy her success because of the drama. In the end, despite being No. 1 for multiple weeks, “Super Freaky Girl” received no Grammy nominations for the 2023 ceremony. However, Latto received nods for Best New Artist and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Big Energy.”

There is hope that Nicki will one day take home music’s highest honor. However, she has accomplished a great deal, so winning a Grammy may not be the most important thing for her anymore. Still, it would be sad if such an important figure in music didn’t get a single Grammy before it’s all said and done. Fans should know that Ken Ehrlich is no longer associated with the Grammys.

The Weeknd Teases New Project ‘THE IDOL VOL. 1’

The Weeknd Becomes First Artist in Spotify History to Reach 100 Million Monthly Listeners

The Weeknd is teasing a new project. Hitting Twitter, he uploaded a video of himself in the studio and announced “THE IDOL VOL. 1.”

“THE IDOL VOL. 1 coming soon (double fantasy & jealous guy just a taste)”

With new music on the way, The Weeknd continues to run up the numbers. His latest edition of “Die for You,” featuring Ariana Grande, has hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The leap happened from the No. 6 slot.

According to Luminate, the song “Die for You,” dropped on XO/Republic Records, received 81.1 million radio airplay audience impressions (up less than 1%), 32.4 million streaming (up 181%), and 14,000 sales (up 1,170%), between February 24 and March 2.

The No. 1 single is the seventh for both The Weeknd and Grande. Their most recent No. 1s was “Save Your Tears,” another duet between the two.

The collaboration follows the single’s stunning resurgence, which has completed “the longest climb to #1 in U.S. radio history.”

Fans got a sneak view of the collaboration via Ariana’s TikTok account. She posted herself working on the vocals and revealing that she composed and recorded a verse for one of her friends after a 14-hour day on the set of Jon M. Chu’s next film WICKED.

Continuing his worldwide dominance, Abel has become the first artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.

Ariana Grande Asks Fans To Refrain From Commenting On Her Body, Coi Leray Comes To Her Defense

Ariana Grande has become the target of nasty internet trolling in recent days after new photos of her surfaced online. Fans and cyberbullies alike have expressed concern over her thinner-than-usual appearance. Some have pointed to anorexia, while others have claimed she may be suffering from a more serious illness. Grande has been away from the spotlight recently while filming Wicked in London. The backlash became so bad, that the singer was forced to defend herself.

In a TikTok video, the 29-year-old explained that she is currently the healthiest she’s ever been. People have been posting side-by-side pictures, comparing her looks to that of her “Sweetener” era. However, Grande said that during that time period, she was experiencing the “unhealthiest version” of her body.  The star admitted that she was on antidepressants during that time and not eating right. Much of this can be attributed to the trauma she has faced in recent years. In 2014, she suffered a great loss when her grandfather passed away. Three years later in 2017, 22 concertgoers were killed by a suicide bomber following her concert at Britain’s Manchester Arena. Then in 2018, her former boyfriend Mac Miller passed away from a drug overdose. Needless to say, she has seen her share of trauma.

Ariana Grande Has Endured A Lot These Past Few Years

While addressing the nasty comments, Grande appeared bare-faced in a hoodie. Unlike some stars, she made no attempt to be glammed up in her speech. Instead, she invited everyone to refrain from commenting on strangers’ bodies. This call to action has been felt across the industry for years. A big push to be nice towards celebrities’ image occurred shortly before the death of Chadwick Boseman, who battled cancer privately. Sadly, not everyone has practiced being kinder, something Grande is now a victim of.

Rapper Coi Leray jumped to Grande’s defense. In a tweet, she wrote “Ariana ain’t told no lies.” Leray has also been the victim of intense scrutiny over her small frame. Cyberbullies have made an extensive amount of memes since she first came onto the scene with her hit record “No More Parties.” After defending Grande, she even invited her to jump on a new track titled, “Body.”

Pete Davidson Defends Spotty Dating History

Pete Davidson has received quite a bit of attention for his history of dating female celebrities. The actor and comedian rose to fame in the mid-2010s when he became a popular cast member on the legendary sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live. Davidson joined the cast in during its 40th season in 2014. He spent the following 8 years on the show, during which time he became a household name. However, his fame was far more likely due to the women he dated during that period than his SNL tenure. Davidson’s dating roster reads like a who’s who of Hollywood it-girls. Still, he doesn’t think that his extensive list of past partners is all that bad.

In an interview on the Real Ones With Jon Bernthal podcast, Davidson opened up about his dating life. His list of exes, which includes the likes of Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande, is something that many people take issue with for one reason or another. Davidson, however, finds the negative reactions confusing. During the podcast, he clarifies that he is “not on social media”. As such, he contends that he is not sliding into anyone’s DMs or trying to flex his relationships publicly for his own sake. According to Davidson, he’s met all of his exes at work. The relationships, he says, had a negative effect on his time working at SNL. “They’re making fun of you… and then you gotta walk out and do a sketch next and hit your mark,” Davidson said of the experience.

A Timeline of Davidson’s Dating History

In 2018, Pete Davidson began dating one of the most famous pop stars in the world, Ariana Grande. She was not his first celebrity partner, but the 5 month relationship certainly put Davidson on the map in a way that he hadn’t been previously. The two were briefly engaged before they split. He then dated actress Kate Beckinsale in early 2019. Later that year, he had a short fling with actress Margaret Qualley. Shortly thereafter, it was reported that he was dating another actress, Kaia Gerber, daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford.

Davidson’s most famous relationship, however, was with Kim Kardashian, but this was mostly due to Kanye’s reaction to the news. For months on end, there seemed to be daily headlines about it. Since his split with Kim, Davidson’s headline-making romances seem to have dwindled. Earlier this year, there was news of a short fling with Emily Ratajkowski, but that seemed to have fizzled out quickly. He’s now been linked to Bodies Bodies Bodies co-star Chase Sui Wonders. What do you think about Pete’s dating history? Is 12 relationships in 10 years normal? Let us know in the comments!

Ariana Grande & Mac Miller’s “The Way” Celebrates 10 Years, Singer Pays Tribute To Late Rapper

2023 will mark the five-year anniversary of Mac Miller’s untimely passing, and much of the music community still hasn’t fully processed the rapper’s death. Among those chiefly upset by his fatal overdose include ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande, who was on track to marry comedian Pete Davidson at the time. Prior to that relationship, she and the late star were together romantically from 2016 to 2018 after bonding throughout years of friendship.

After Miller’s passing, the sweetener songstress and her Staten Island-born beau went their separate ways. He’s presently spending time with Bodies Bodies Bodies co-star Chase Sui Wonders, while Grande has moved on to marry Dalton Gomez, a real estate agent whose life is mostly out of the spotlight. Even though she’s now with another, the former Nickelodeon star continues to make it obvious that there will always be room in her heart for her fallen former lover.

Revisit Ariana Grande and Mac Miller’s Undeniable Chemistry in “The Way” Visual

On Saturday (March 25), the duo’s 2013 collaboration, “The Way” celebrated its 10th birthday. Though Miller isn’t here to commemorate the special moment himself, Grande did her part to uphold his legacy by posting about their joint effort on her Instagram Story. “I love you,” she wrote at the bottom of the screen in tiny white font when sharing the song’s accompanying visual this past weekend.

As DailyMail notes, the vocalist did her part to make sure that her strong feelings for Miller were clearly felt online. In the comment section of the same video, she once again wrote, “I love you.” Throughout the years, the ponytail princess has often shared subtle but heartfelt tributes to her ex, who has gone on to inspire some of her most popular releases, such as “Thank U, Next.” While she continues to remember their love in a positive light, others, such as Kanye West, have tried to ruin that narrative by insisting Pete was sending photos of him and Ariana Grande in bed together to her ex following their split, seemingly resulting in his overdose. Read what the pop star’s brother had to say about that here, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.

The Weeknd Drops “Starboy (Deluxe)”

The Weeknd is unloading a whole lot of music for his fans these days. As we approach the 10-year anniversary of his debut studio album, Kiss Land, the singer has undoubtedly provided fans with a ton of content as he closes out the Dawn FM era. On top of an upcoming television series with HBO, he blessed fans with Live At SoFi Stadium earlier this year – a live concert album from his Los Angeles date on the After Hours Til Dawn tour.

Though he hasn’t provided an update on when we could expect a new album, it seems as though he’s at a place in his career where he wants to unload records out of the vault. He’s hinted at the release of  Starboy (Deluxe) over the past few months. Earlier this year, he and Ariana Grande teamed up, once again, to bless fans with the “Die For You” remix. The duo’s collaborative streak together extended further as they reconnected for a cut off of Starboy.

The Weeknd – Starboy (Deluxe)

The latest collab between The Weeknd and Ariana Grande was only a taste of what the Canadian singer had in store. This week, the Dawn FM star finally blessed fans with the release of Starboy (Deluxe). The deluxe edition packs another three songs including the “Die For You (Remix).” Additionally, the project also includes the Kygo-assisted remix of “Starboy,” which the Norwegian producer previously released independently before seeing an official release. The deluxe also includes the “Reminder (Remix)” ft. A$AP Rocky and Young Thug, which was also previously released on streaming services.

The release of Starboy (Deluxe) comes after another incredible award show night for the Toronto singer. The Weeknd swept the Juno Awards last night, winning five out of the six categories he was nominated him. He took home the award for Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the year while “Sacrifice” took home Single Of The Year. Dawn FM also scored in the Album Of The Year and Pop Album Of The Year categories. We’ll keep you posted on any more updates on new releases from The Weeknd. Check out the deluxe edition of Starboy above.
