Ja Morant’s Apology Accused Of Being AI-Generated

On May 14, Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant was indefinitely suspended by the team pending an NBA investigation. It came as a result of, for the second time in 2023, Morant appearing on Instagram Live with a gun. The first time occurred in March at a Denver nightclub. That incident led to an eight-game suspension for Morant. The second, which went viral on social on May 13, appeared to occur while Morant was cruising with longtime friend Davonte Pack.

While the NBA is yet to fully address the situation, Commissioner Adam Silver said he was “shocked” by the incident when asked at the NBA Draft Lottery. A lot of speculation has arisen about the severity of punishment Morant will face. Ideas range from JJ Redick’s suggestion to simply double the previous suspension to calls for a suspension that would span half the season or more. However, it will likely be some time before the NBA makes their decision, as they walk the line between reputation and Morant’s draw as a player.

Morant Finally Issues A Statement

However, amid all this, the one person who hadn’t been heard from was Ja Morant himself. That all changed on May 16 following Silver’s comments at the lottery, with Morant releasing a statement through his representatives. “I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people who have supported me,” the statement began. “This is a journey and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself.”

Despite addressing the situation, the vague and generic statement has rung hollow for many people. Soon after it was released, a joke began to spread on social media that Morant had used an AI program like ChatGPT to write an apology for him. Furthermore, Morant’s statement is essentially a re-write of the apology he gave after his first suspension. In March, after returning to practice with the Grizzlies, Morant said much of the same. “I’m completely sorry for that. So, you know, my job now is, like I said, to be more responsible, more smarter, and don’t cause any of that no more.” Arguably, his March apology was more convincing. This is a developing story and any updates will be covered here on HotNewHipHop.

Da Brat Apologizes For Sperm Donor Comments

Da Brat has faced backlash for comments she made during a recent interview. On an appearance of Tamron Hall, the musician and her wife Judy Dupart talked about their difficulties finding a sperm donor. However, Da Brat raised a few eyebrows when talking about the final choices available to them.

“And that [dude] looked like Jiminy Cricket. I was like, ‘I’m sorry but that wasn’t gonna be my choice.,” Brat said of the remaining Black donor. She continued, “Because we didn’t have a lot to choose from, he definitely wasn’t Black. But I think we did a great job with picking. He’s handsome, he’s tall and I think he’s going to look beautiful with my wife’s egg.” Da Brat has now issued an additional statement on the interview.

Da Brat Says Comments Taken Out Of Context

“I didn’t think it would be offensive to anybody. I cracked jokes about almost everybody that I saw, that one just happened to make it in the show,” Da Brat said. “I wasn’t trying to be mean or say anything negative about Black people. I guess they thought it was funny and I didn’t think it would bother anybody or else I would have taken it out.” She continued, “I had no idea people were going to be so offended, but I meant no harm whatsoever,” the rapper said. “People take things and run with it. I’m like, ‘What?’ People who know me know that I didn’t mean any harm.”

She continued, “We were looking for a Black donor. We’re Black, we wanted a Black donor. So it was just misconstrued and taken way out of context.” However, she also apologized wholeheartedly for her comments. “If I offended anybody, I do apologize. But it was a joke between me and my wife and the doctor, like, we joke like that, we play around so it wasn’t meant to be offensive in any way.” Do you think people took Da Brat’s comments out of context? Daily Loud Issues Apology For False Reports On Jamie Foxx’s Health

Jamie Foxx’s health scare and hospitalization has been one of the most worrisome and talked-about stories in pop culture this year. With so much uncertainty and fear surrounding his status, it can be tough to know which news to trust and what is just hearsay. Moreover, fans and audiences everywhere fell subject to the worst example of this so far. Reports from many sources indicated that his family was “preparing for the worst,” despite other sources providing promising updates on his recovery. As a result, Daily Loud recently took to Twitter to apologize for scaring fans with one of many misleading reports on his status.

“We would like to apologize for the misinformation regarding Jamie Foxx’s condition we unfortunately though the source we had was real but it was not,” their account tweeted. “We are sorry to Jamie and his family for our actions here and continue to wish him nothing but good health. Sorry for letting our followers down as well. We will do better in the future and will make sure every source is properly fact checked from here on.”

Jamie Foxx Is Recuperating & Well; Daily Loud‘s Apology For Misleading Coverage

Furthermore, it should be noted that Daily Loud is not solely to blame for these misleading reports. In fact, outlets like our own and many others reported on the foreboding news, despite acknowledging how it strangely conflicted with other updates. As fans take a breath and relax following this clarification, celebrities and fans from all over continue to send their well-wishes to Jamie Foxx and his family. Of course, many on social media blasted these outlets for their work, and rightfully so. Hopefully this is a sign to depend more on sources legitimately close to the star actor, especially given how his daughter had to clear the air.

“Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild,” Corinne Foxx wrote on her Instagram Story. “My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support! We have an exciting work announcement coming next week too!” For the latest (hopefully true) updates and news on Jamie Foxx, come back to HNHH.

Flau’jae Johnson Apologizes For 9/11 Lyric

On May 9, LSU guard and rapper Flau’jae Johnson dropped a remix of Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor”. In putting her own style on the track, Johnson included the lyric “In this 911, blowing smoke like them towers.” The song quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons, with right-wing outlets such as Fox and Outkick very angry at Johnson for “mocking” 9/11.

The song was quickly removed from YouTube and social media. LSU put out an official statement apologizing on behalf of Johnson. “We spoke with Flau’jae this evening, and while she never intended to offend or upset anyone with her lyrics, she expressed sincere remorse for any possibility of a misunderstanding and immediately took the video down,” the statement read in part. However, the apology came from LSU and not Johnson herself.

While Johnson did not immediately respond to the controversy, she has now come out with a statement of her own. “I just want to come on here and let ya’ll know by no means would I ever intentionally try to disrespect or offend anyone,” Johnson said on Instagram. “My whole goal in music is to push positivity and spread love. So, in no way shape or form would I ever intentionally try to disrespect or offend anyone.” Despite the claims from the right-wing media, it’s clear that the 19-year-old performer did not maliciously include the include.

Johnson, who performs under the stage name Flau’jae, has seen her work thrust into a bright spotlight after LSU claimed their first-ever women’s basketball National Championship in April. She teased a collab with Lil Wayne soon after cutting the nets down. Later on in the month, she also revealed she was working on a track with DJ Khaled. LSU has stood by their SEC freshman of the year and does not intend to further reprimand her for the ill-advised bar.

Nia Long Thanks Stephen A. Smith For Saying She Deserves An Apology

Stephen A. Smith recently defended Nia Long with much passion concerning the cheating scandal of her ex, former Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka. Not only that, but his words resonated so profoundly with the actress that she thanked him in the comments section of his post. “Even if they’re not together, that is the father of her child,” Smith began. “If you mention him and another woman, inevitably, she’s going to come up. How come nobody thought about the sister? How come they just left her out there standing on her own? I will always defend her. I will always defend her on this issue. It was- how could you do that?

You didn’t have to do it that way,” Stephen A. Smith continued. “But to have a press conference and put this business tacitly or otherwise on Front Street, you didn’t think about Nia Long at all. But you thought about the other woman, who purportedly was white. And the one woman in this equation who was innocent and victimized was not the woman that Ime Udoka was messing around with. It was Nia Long. She was the one screwed over!”

Stephen A. Smith Defends Nia Long

In the comments, the actress shared her thoughts on his response and expressed gratitude for his support. “Thank you @stephenasmith for your support. TBC…” she wrote, and added another comment quoting none other than Malcolm X. “‘The most disrespected person in America is the black woman’ – Malcolm X.” Moreover, Nia Long has been dealing with this scandal quite gracefully, despite having to hear about it through social media. Another aspect that many haven’t considered in this equation is how this affects her son, who she’s spent a lot of time caring and advocating for. “My only focus right now is my youngest son ’cause he’s having a really tough time,” she expressed. “I’m sure I have some things that I’m suppressing, but I have to do that to take care of him first. That’s the giving. It’s natural.

“I’m sure I’ll have to circle back with myself several times to reconcile things, but the one thing I’m trying not to harbor is anger,” she continued. “The Celtics made a choice to make my family business public, and I don’t understand why. It could’ve all been handled internally. I do understand why, but I can’t talk about it. Maybe one day I will. You know, fear drives stupidity, and I’ll leave that right there. I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I ever thought I was. [The support for her online] saved my mental well-being because I felt uplifted by the community in a way that felt like my family was checking in and making sure I was OK. And that, I appreciated.” Stick around on HNHH for the latest on Stephen A. Smith and Nia Long.

Boosie’s Apology To T.I.

From what both parties indicated, it seems like the feud between Boosie Badazz and T.I. is now over. Moreover, the Baton Rouge rapper recently appeared for yet another sit-down interview with VladTV, and spoke earnestly on the subject. Not only that, but he revealed that he apologized to the Atlanta trap artist and detailed some of his though process and emotions. Specifically, he expressed feeling like the two were able to get over their spat like “bosses.” While the heat between them simmered over time, it’s always great to get a solid confirmation of a reconciliation.

“It just went like two bosses of handling it, man,” Boosie started his remarks. “First of all, we got kids who love each other. First we wasn’t agreeing and we was going back-and-forth and you know he spoke how he felt and I spoke how I felt. He felt me and I felt him. I gave him an apology.” Many believed that the two made up when onlookers spotted them at the St. Louis international airport. However, the “Wipe Me Down” MC said that they talked over the phone before that link-up.

Boosie Breaks Down His Apology & Reconciliation With T.I.

“After we kept going back-and-forth, the things he was doing for me in my life at the time, I kinda felt bad,” Boosie continued concerning T.I. “I kinda felt bad he was doing some real s**t helping me in a lot of ways but I told him I still stand on what I stand on. When he explained it to me, we got by it. We got by like bosses supposed to get by. We ain’t let the internet or none of that bring us out of character.”

For those unaware, this pair sent shots at each other after Boosie labeled T.I. a “rat” for allegedly snitching on his dead cousin. In fact, the former canceled a joint album they were working on. After the “Live Your Life” star clarified the situation (granted, after calling Boosie out multiple times), it seems they came to an understanding. With that in mind, maybe we’ll get that collab tape after all, but only time will tell. Regardless, stick around on HNHH for the latest on T.I. and Boosie.

Bambi Apologizes Amid Erica Dixon & Emani Drama

After a few days of intense drama with Erica Dixon and Emani, Bambi recently took to Instagram to apologize for her attacks. Moreover, things between these “Love & Hip Hop” affiliates grew when Bambi, real name Adiz Benson, posted alleged legal documents of Emani claiming that her mother, Dixon, abused her. Then, Emani took to Instagram Live to defend her mother and blast Benson for speaking on their relationship. However, things took a more somber turn with Bambi’s apology, as she revealed that she’s going through a divorce with Scrappy. Despite any harsh words thrown during this exchange, it doesn’t underscore the hardships faced.

“Sharing private moments is never a good look and goes against everything that family stands for,” Bambi began her post. “I take full responsibility for my actions. I have been doing my best to hold it together through my divorce. A few days ago I was triggered & I responded emotionally & publicly. I am not proud of it & I apologize to everyone I hurt and disappointed. I’m gonna take some time to get it together & work on being my favorite version of myself. It won’t be perfect, but it will be me.”

Bambi Apologizes For Blasting Erica Dixon & Emani

“Y’all so mad cuz I’m really ‘that lady,’” Bambi previously posted on IG concerning Erica Dixon’s treatment of Emani. “But you’ll never be anything other than ‘that n***a baby moma’ @msericadixon. Since you wanna play with me… the reason why I never liked your a** is because since your child was 8 years old she confided in me about you bullying her and two piecing her a**! I let people think otherwise and never spoke up because Scrapp was handling it with the court and she was underage.”

“Public record,” she wrote on a picture of legal document that supposedly showed abuse from Erica Dixon to Emani. “Please stop playing. I love this child and kept my mouth closed but y’all doing the most! You sent the cops to my house being petty as usual. And then your child wanted to talk to them and tell them this s**t on her own.” Hopefully this means that tensions between these parties can cease and they can heal through more amicable means. Regardless, stay up to date on HNHH for the latest on Bambi, Erica Dixon, and Emani.

Matty Healy Makes Weird On-Stage Apology To Ice Spice

The 1975 is a band you completely forget exists until you hear one of their songs on the radio. Best known for songs such as “Sex”, “Chocolate”, and “Robbers”, the British band has been incredibly successful domestically. All five of their albums have topped the British charts, and all but their debut album reached the top 10 in the US. Their latest album, Being Funny In A Foreign Language, reached #7 on the Billboard charts.

However, the band was in the news earlier this year for a completely different reason. Appearing on The Adam Friedland Show, lead singer Matty Healy made a number of much-decried remarks. Specifically, he talked about trying to DM slide Ice Spice on Instagram. The podcast episode then devolved into an offensive guessing game about the rapper’s racial heritage, with hosts Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen adopting offensive stereotypical accents with each guess. The hosts also body-shamed Ice Spice, at one point referring to her as “this chubby Chinese lady.” Healy did not participate in the accents but was heard laughing in reaction to them.

Healy Stops Concert To Ramble About Ice Spice

Healy was subject to a lot of backlash after the episode premiered. Yungblood called out Healy, Friedman, and Mullen for “objectifying a young Black female artist.” Meanwhile, the overall racism of the segment was widely criticized. Aside from the racist accents, Spice does not belong to any of the ethnicities the hosts brought up. By her own account, Spice is of Nigerian and Dominican heritage. On the podcast, “Inuit”, “Chinese”, and “Hawaiian” were all suggested.

However, Healy took a break during an April 21 concert in Auckland, New Zealand to address the situation.

“I just feel a bit bad, and I’m kind of a bit sorry if I’ve offended you. Ice Spice, I’m sorry. It’s not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m a dick. I love you, Ice Spice. I’m so sorry.

I don’t want anything like that misconstrued to be mean. I’m not… I hate… I don’t mind being a bit of a joker. […] It’s OK for me to be, like, a trickster or whatever, but I don’t want to be perceived as, like, being barmy. Because honestly, I just love you guys, and I love doing this. […]

The truth I just want to say, ‘Hello. This is a bit embarrassing. I’m sorry if I get it wrong. We all get it wrong,’ you know? I just have to do it in public and then apologize to Ice Spice. My life’s just a bit weird. I am genuinely sorry if I’ve upset her because I f*cking love her.

Matty Healy, April 21 2023

As noted in a report from Rolling Stone, the apology left a lot to be desired. Healy doesn’t actually apologize for the comments and jokes he enabled, he’s just sorry if he upset the 23-year-old whose DMs he was trying to get into. For the record, Matty Healy is 34. Overall, Healy’s apology was a blanket statement of regret if he had ever gone beyond “being a bit of a joker”. Healy also did not directly apologize to Spice, instead apologizing to a concert audience in New Zealand. Ice Spice is yet to respond to the apology but if she does, we’ll update you here on HotNewHipHop.
