Saweetie Flips A Jill Scott Classic On Spicy “Is It The Way”

The last few years have seen a rise in rappers making more direct interpolations of older songs. Saweetie’s latest single, “Is It The Way,” samples Jill Scott’s classic neo-soul track “The Way,” from her 2001 debut album Who Is Jill Scott? She flips it drastically, turning it from a mid-tempo flirty love letter to a much more overtly raunchy track with a trap beat. She talks about her authenticity, her physical attractiveness, and sex. That is Saweetie’s M.O., and it has been since she debuted.

LL Cool J recently tapped Saweetie for his Q-Tip-produced comeback album, The FORCE. The track, “Proclivities,” is another raunchy cut that does not deal much in innuendo. Generally speaking, Saweetie is not one for metaphors, which is clear on this new single as well. In August, Saweetie made headlines for her roller-coaster relationship with YG. The two of them reportedly got into an altercation that necessitated police involvement to break up. Soon after, YG heavily implied that Saweetie cheated on him in an Instagram post (posting a lion and a cheetah emoji on his story, seemingly referring to her as a “lying cheater”), though the Compton rapper denied that was the case. The status of their relationship at this point is unclear. Based on their history, it does not seem that this song is about YG, to say the least. Perhaps they could both stand to learn something from Jill Scott’s music. Stream “Is It The Way” below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Is it the way I handle business? (My business)
Authentic with no gimmicks (Ooh)
They talkin’, but I live it (Yeah)
I get up back and flip it (Uh-huh)
Singapore, Dubai, the only time you catch me trippin’, yeah (Pew)
Ain’t no way (Yeah)

I know you a hater, see it written on your face (Face)

Yung Miami Under Fire For Allegedly Harassing Woman To Abort Diddy’s Baby

The latest sexual assault lawsuit against Diddy is from an anonymous woman who claims he drugged, assaulted, and impregnated her against her will. However, Sean Combs is not the only rap star implicated in this filing, according to court documents reportedly obtained by AllHipHop. The Jane Doe also alleged that Yung Miami (real name Caresha Brownlee) harassed and pressured her to abort Diddy’s baby, although she ended up having a miscarriage. She learned she was pregnant around July of 2022 following the alleged April assault (one of various alleged incidents of this), and is also suing the Bad Boy mogul for physical assault, battery and sexual battery, sexual harassment, unlawful surveillance, tampering with a consumer product, emotional distress, and the violation of the Gender Motivated Violence Act of New York.

“In July of 2022, Jane Doe traveled at defendant Combs’ command to his home in Los Angeles,” the Diddy lawsuit reportedly reads. “While in defendant Combs’ bathroom, Jane Doe was compelled to ingest an unknown substance. Jane Doe later learned it was or contained the drug ketamine and/or other substances, which caused Jane Doe to ‘black out’ and lose consciousness intermittently throughout the night. Jane Doe did not consent to ingesting ketamine and/or other substances.

“Shortly thereafter, Jane Doe took a pregnancy test, which was positive,” the lawsuit against Diddy continues. “Jane Doe informed defendant Combs of the positive test. Caresha Brownlee, defendant Combs’ associate, harassed Jane Doe by repeatedly calling her and telling Jane Doe to have an abortion. Jane Doe suffered a miscarriage and did not speak to defendant Combs or his team for approximately three months.

“Combs would make her ‘perform a show’ for him and would ply her with alcohol and substances until she passed out,” it went on. “She would wake up with bruising and injuries but with no recollection of how she sustained her injuries. This continued until July of 2024.” According to the lawsuit, the Jane Doe and Diddy first met in 2020. While neither he nor his team have publicly responded to this filing, they have denied almost all the allegations against him so far.

Daylyt Addresses Rumor He Helped Drake Write “Back To Back”

During a recent interview, Daylyt decided to set the record straight regarding some ongoing rumors that he secretly helped Drake write “Back To Back.” He called into HipHopDX‘s The Bigger Picture earlier this week to discuss, clarifying that he wasn’t solely behind the Meek Mill diss track. According to him, however, he still might have had a lot to do with its creation.

Daylyt explained that while he didn’t write the song, he did offer Drake some advice at the time, which ultimately lines up with its concept. “I can clear the air right now,” he began. “No, I did not write ‘Back to Back.’ I’ll just put that out there. I’ll leave that in the air.”

Daylyt Explains How He May Have Indirectly Inspired “Back To Back”

“Now, what I can say — and I’ll say this publicly — I may have been some inspiration to the concept of the record,” Daylyt continued. “In the midst of that beef after ‘Charged Up’ dropped, I most definitely was like, ‘Aye, bro. You gotta drop some sh*t back to back. You need to run some sh*t back to back to back.’ I just kept saying, ‘Back to back.’ And then that became, I guess, the idea of the record… I was like, ‘Don’t give [Meek] no time to reply. Just double up on him.’ And that concept alone turned into an actual record.”

When asked to share what songs he may have actually written, he refused, opting to keep everything else under wraps. “I won’t speak on anything else. Y’all gotta talk to my agents and stuff,” he said. What do you think of Daylyt clearing up rumors that he helped Drake write “Back To Back,” his Meek Mill diss? What about him revealing that he may have indirectly inspired it with some advice he gave to Drizzy about the beef? Are you surprised? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Kanye West Reminisces On His Childhood In China With Throwback Picture

Kanye West is looking forward to his second VULTURES listening party in China with Ty Dolla $ign this Saturday (September 28), once again reminiscing on his childhood. Before their first go-around on September 15, Ye had posted a throwback picture of him as a kid sitting on the steps of Huang Shan (also known as the Yellow Mountain) with the caption “BACK.” For those unaware, he moved to Nanjing when he was ten years old to accompany his mother, who taught college courses as a Fulbright Scholar. On Friday (September 27), the Chicago artist posted yet another throwback pic of him on Instagram with the caption “BACK AGAIN.”

This time, the post features a young Kanye West with white Nikes standing near what seems to be an elevator. As such, considering how massive the first show in Haikou was – with over 40,000 fans in attendance – it seems like he’s ready for another spectacle. What’s more is that the VULTURES duo even premiered some new material that has fans thinking that Yeezy is back in album mode. These include the new track “Preacher Man” and a surprising remix of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles.”

Kanye West’s Latest Throwback Post

However, other new music rumors from years ago resurfaced thanks to a new Consequence interview with Bootleg Kev. The rapper claimed that Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar have a whole album’s worth of scrapped songs together produced by Madlib, a mystery that originally captivated us so long ago. “I just think it just needed to be structured,” Con told Kev. “It was there, it’s there, it’s crazy.” Given Ye’s many controversies and recent musical moves, this will probably never see the light of day. But fans can still dream…

Elsewhere, we still don’t know if Kanye West’s supposed next project will be VULTURES 3 (as Ty Dolla $ign promised) or something else entirely. Another collaborative effort, a solo album, a short EP… Who knows? What we do know is that he has a lot to handle and answer for in the public eye, a moment of possible retribution that probably missed its window. But we can never count Ye out of another culturally dominant moment, no matter if its context is for better or worse.

Leon Bridges Previews His Upcoming Album With The Smooth New Single ‘That’s What I Love’

Leon Bridges is now a week out from the release of his latest album, titled simply “Leon.” He’s got at least one more pre-album single in him, though, as he just dropped “That’s What I Love” today (September 27). It’s the kind of soulful, slow-burning tune Bridges does well, letting smooth intrumentals and his equally soothing voice do the heavy lifting.

Bridges previously said of the album:

Leon has been a long-time coming. I started writing pieces of it as far back as Gold-Diggers Sound. They didn’t fit what I was trying to do with that album and I tried moving on. But I couldn’t shake them because they’re part of me. And, if I’m honest, also because I think this is some of my most excellent work yet.

In many ways, Leon has been in the works since my childhood. This record is about simpler days. It’s about time spent in my beloved Fort Worth and the experiences that made me the man I am today. It’s soulful music in the truest sense — it’s imbued with my soul.

I’m excited to share these stories about my home, about nostalgia, about my upbringing, about where I’m from, with all of you. I hope this music brings you back to your roots and your journey.”

Listen to “That’s What I Love” above.

Leon is out 10/4 via Columbia Records. Find more information here.

Wu-Tang Clan Hints At New Album Potentially Dropping In 2025

The Wu-Tang Clan is set to bring their Las Vegas residency back this weekend with two shows at the Theater at Virgin Hotels. During a recent chat with TMZ, Cappadonna, Ghostface Killah, and Inspectah Deck revealed which song is their favorite to perform together. They all agreed on “Triumph,” though Ghostface Killah noted that they all serve their own purposes.

They were then asked about their plans for next year, prompting them to tease a potential new album. According to Ghostface Killah, they intend on dropping something together “soon.” He says that fans need to be patient, however, as they all have busy schedules they’ll need to work around in order to get it done.

Wu-Tang Clan Discusses What’s To Come

“It’s gonna be easy, ’cause this is what we do,” he explained. “The music, the soul, everything… Hip hop never left us.” These hints arrive after the drama surrounding the group’s one-of-one album, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. It was previously sold to Martin Shkreli, who was its sole owner until 2021 when he was arrested for alleged security fraud. The U.S. government confiscated it, and eventually, digital art company PleasrDAO bought it. It was later released in fragments as NFTs, a decision controversial among both fans and group members.

During an interview with Vanity Fair in July, for example, Method Man opened up about some of the issues he had with the project. According to him, most of the Wu-Tang Clan was not let in on the rollout plans. “I thought it was some circus spectacle,” he told the outlet at the time. “I never really spoke to RZA about it. It’s an uncomfortable subject to most of the guys, so we don’t really discuss it too much.” What do you think of Wu-Tang teasing the idea of dropping an album in 2025? Are you looking forward to it? What about their Las Vegas residency? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.
