Nas Congratulates Kendrick Lamar For Super Bowl Halftime Show

Kendrick Lamar has had one of the most eventful years for a rapper in recent memory, following up his Super Bowl halftime show announcement with a new song after an intense battle with Drake. Even though there’s a lot of debate over whether or not the legendary Lil Wayne deserved the headlining spot instead, another hip-hop legend had nothing to say but congratulations. Moreover, Nas recently shouted K.Dot out on his Instagram Story on Friday (September 13), which is coincidentally one day before Esco’s birthday. “Congratulations to my brotha @kendricklamar. Can’t wait to watch the party die!!!!” he wrote, making reference to Kendrick’s new track and reposting his Super Bowl announcement.

As such, this is a light cosign on Nas’ part of all the cultural, social, and philosophical critiques of the rap game that Kendrick Lamar engaged in on his new record. But it’s also just an excited anticipation of what’s to come from him, so let’s not read too deeply into it. If you weren’t aware, these two MCs admire each other deeply, with them linking up for the Queens lyricist’s 50th birthday party last year. Also, Nasir Jones spoke glowingly of listening to the Compton star for the first time on his King’s Disease III cut, “First Time.”

After Tua Tagovailoa’s Latest Concussion Many Believe Dophins QB Should Retire

Football is a dangerous sport. And Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce sparked conversations about Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s future after he suffered his third diagnosed concussion in as many seasons.

ICYMI, Tagovailoa exited the Dolphins’ loss to the Buffalo Bills after a hit to the helmet caused a fencing response, a clear sign of a concussion. He was placed into the concussion protocol, marking his third such injury after missing five games in 2022 due to concussions.

Get this, during a news conference, Pierce, who played nine seasons in the NFL, advised Tagovailoa to prioritize his health and consider retirement. “I’ll be honest, I’d tell him to retire. It’s not worth it,” Pierce said. “Scary — you could see right away; the players’ faces on the field… He’s going to live longer than he’s going to play football. Take care of your family.”

What’s interesting is other NFL coaches weighed in on the issue as well. Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson stressed the importance of prioritizing player health, saying, “If it was one of our guys, you have to be very careful and do the right thing for the player… You just have to continue to think about the player and the health and safety of the player.” Pederson, also a former NFL player, suggested that players should carefully consider their careers when facing recurring head injuries.

Then Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel addressed the media, emphasizing that Tagovailoa’s immediate focus should be on his health and family. “You’re talking about his career — his career is his,” McDaniel said. He urged the public to avoid speculation about Tagovailoa’s future, saying it’s not helpful at this time. McDaniel added that Tagovailoa is unlikely to play in the next game but emphasized that decisions about his future would be up to him and his medical team.

What ever the decision we hope Tagovailo prioritizes his health above all else.

Moreover, Lil Tjay’s name allegedly appears in a 21-person gang indictment against various individuals accused of carrying out 14 different shootings in the Bronx as part of the $laughtery or $lattery Gang. That’s still a very early story in development, so keep your eyes peeled for a more official or conclusive update. Nevertheless, Tekashi seemed to react to this on his Instagram Story on Friday (September 13), typing a whole lot of crying-laughing emojis in his post.

However, anyone familiar with 6ix9ine’s legal issues should know that he doesn’t have much to laugh about at the end of the day. After all, there’s reportedly an international warrant out for his arrest from the Dominican Republic, per local outlet El Diario. If you didn’t hear, this stems from an October 2023 arrest over alleged assault of two producers in the country, which the New York MC is supposedly “in rebellion” against. We haven’t gotten any updates on that at press time, so we’ll see how much of a headache it will be.

As for 6ix9ine’s rivalry with Lil Tjay, this indictment news (if true) puts the former at an advantage. But it’s only a technicality, because the latter took a pretty big step to outwardly disrespect Tekashi and keep things personal and specifically directed at each other. Tjay gave the “GUMMO” artist’s ex-girlfriend a chain amid their pretty contentious break-up and public falling out. Even though it’s easy to laugh at legal trouble from beyond the screen, the one-on-one aspect remains in question.

Elsewhere, 6ix9ine definitely channeled these feelings into his new diss song against his ex, Yailín La Más Viral. We know that he switches up his sound and approach in the limelight every once in a while, so we wonder how much this phase will last. Recently, Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. Ever since then, rumors have been floating around that Drake was given the opportunity in the past but turned it down on multiple occasions. This was first revealed by Mal on New Rory & Mal earlier this week, though his co-hosts and viewers were immediately skeptical.

According to Elliott Wilson, however, these rumors are true. In a recent episode of HipHopDX’s The Bigger Picture, he shared details of Drake’s alleged Halftime Show offers. He claimed that Drake was first asked to perform at the Super Bowl in 2020 in Miami, and then the following year in Tampa. Of course, these Halftime Shows ended up being headlined by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, and later The Weeknd.

Lil Tjay Allegedly Appears In A New Federal Gang Indictment

Lil Tjay has allegedly been named in a new federal gang indictment reportedly accusing him and about 20 other individuals of allegedly being part of the $laughtery Gang. Moreover, the alleged indictment claims that they were responsible for 14 different shootings in the Bronx. News footage also emerged of law enforcement authorities raiding what the outlet called a “criminal commune” in a Bronx apartment, resulting in eight arrests of wanted suspects according to the clip below. This is still a very early story in development, so take this with a grain of salt. We still don’t know to what extent the “Fall Back” rapper is involved in all this.

Furthermore, Lil Tjay sadly has a lot of experience when it comes to run-ins with the law. For example, authorities arrested him at a Miami airport back in May on his 23rd birthday. This was a very unclear and vague circumstance that was initially believed to involve an arrest warrant, but this wasn’t much of an issue for long. The New York MC was quickly released from custody, and even flaunted his material wealth and freedom on social media in the aftermath.

Lil Tjay Allegedly Hit With Federal Gang Indictment

Elsewhere, Lil Tjay seems to continue his battle with fellow New Yorker 6ix9ine. It seems like the latter is losing. Tjay recently linked up with Tekashi’s ex-girlfriend and gifted her a chain. Many saw this as a direct sign of disrespect against the formerly rainbow-haired artist. It’s one of many beefs that the “GUMMO” creative has within the rap game, many of which continue to develop in ugly and combative ways to this day. It seems like this is a more light example of that, but nonetheless a statement of opposition.

Overall, we still don’t know how to make heads or tails of this new indictment. Knowing Lil Tjay, though, he will likely celebrate and hold onto his success if he sidesteps all this. That is, if he even really shows up in the indictment to begin with. After Tjay’s May arrest, he bought some new watches and boasted about his lifestyle. We’ll see whether or not this situation creates further impact.
