Nelly Essential Songs

Emerging from St. Louis, Missouri, in the early 2000s, Nelly (born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr.) crafted a distinctive sound that merged hip-hop with pop-friendly hooks. His debut album, Country Grammar, released in 2000, combines Southern edge and universal mainstream appeal. The album sold over 8.4 million copies in America alone and earned diamond certification. In this crowded hip-hop landscape where catchy beats and sing-along choruses reign supreme is what Nelly was all about.

Further, Nelly has often been responsible for producing hit single after hit single that appeals to millions worldwide. He has always stayed relevant by making music that could be played on the radio but still has its roots deeply planted in hip-hop culture. For over two decades now, Nelly has been commercially successful and influenced a whole generation of artists who want seamless genre mixing in their music. Here are five essential songs that will give you an idea about what kind of influence Nelly had on music and how he developed as an artist himself.

1. “Country Grammar” (Hot Sh*t) (2000)

The song “Country Grammar (Hot Sh*t)” put Nelly on the map, making it his entry into the mainstream. It was released as the first single from his debut album in 2000 and quickly climbed the charts. The single went to No. 7 on Billboard Hot 100. The song’s catchy hook and confident delivery summed up his unique style. Its production laid down a template for Nelly’s signature sound with its trademark beat and infectious chorus.

“Country Grammar” also successfully positioned Nelly after selling millions of copies while establishing himself as a solo artist. This song became an anthem of summer and a staple in radio stations across America. Its funny yet streetwise lyrics and ear-catching melody were enjoyed by all walks of life and made it a massive hit amongst them all. This track demonstrated Nelly’s skill at crafting commercially viable hip-hop songs without losing their essence. It was this track where he revealed his knack for creating tunes that appealed to both mass audiences and rap’s roots.

2. “Hot in Herre” (2002)

In his second album, Nellyville, the hit “Hot in Herre” is probably Nelly’s most identifiable song. In 2002, this single became a cultural institution as it swept over the airwaves. Due to the song’s irresistible vibe and hard-to-forget lyrics, it gained the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for seven uninterrupted weeks, making Nelly an important figure in rap.

Its production was vital to its success, with The Neptunes producing “Hot In Herre.” As much as this funky rhythmic beat by The Neptunes was all about the fun mood of the early 2000s, Nelly’s charismatic delivery made it an anthem. It is worth noting that these playful and suggestive words boosted its popularity. This made Nelly a diverse artist who could compose chart-topping songs across genres appreciated by different walks of life.

3. “Dilemma” (Featuring Kelly Rowland) (2002)

A single from Nelly’s second album, “Dilemma” was released in 2002 and featured Kelly Rowland. It is also his most popular and long-lasting hit song. This track is a sad departure from the rapper’s normal party anthems. The duet displays Nelly’s vulnerability by combining rap with R&B into a classic love ballad. Spending ten weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it was among the year’s best-selling singles and earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

The success of this song can be mainly attributed to Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s undeniable chemistry. Their voices blend so well that they sound like they were made for each other. It tells a story about complicated love and longing through lyrics full of genuine emotion that reverberate. Therefore, we can say without any doubt that “Dillema” will always be considered among the most significant hits from Nelly. It proves how versatile he is when it comes to creating music that cuts across different genres.

4. “Ride Wit Me” (2001)

Also from Country Grammar, “Ride Wit Me” is one of Nelly’s most popular songs. It quickly became an anthem for driving around aimlessly and having fun. It once again showed that Nelly was good at making happy music that everyone could enjoy. The chorus of this track features the unforgettable line “Hey, must be the money!” It wasn’t surprising when the song reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and established Nelly as a significant figure in early 2000s rap.

The smoothness of its production gives “Ride wit Me” a relaxed vibe to go with Nelly’s flow and down-to-earth lyrics about enjoying oneself. It’s also bright and summery, which made it perfect for radio airplay or party playlists. This also helped it contribute even further towards achieving multi-platinum status for Country Grammar. This record represents what can happen when you mix catchy melodies with elements from hip-hop because it attracted both hardcore rap fans as well as mainstream listenership. So many people still love this track – it just goes to show how much influence Nelly had on music during that time!

5. “Just A Dream” (2010)

“Just a Dream,” released in 2010 as the lead single from Nelly’s sixth studio album, 5.0, marked a significant comeback for the artist. This introspective track diverges from Nelly’s typical party anthems, exploring themes of love and regret. The song became a commercial success, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning platinum certification, reaffirming Nelly’s relevance in the evolving music terrain.

The song’s reflective lyrics also resonated with a broad audience, showcasing Nelly’s versatility and depth. Combining melodic piano and driving beats, the production provided a poignant backdrop for Nelly’s lost love and longing narrative. “Just a Dream” highlighted Nelly’s ability to evolve with changing musical trends while staying true to his unique style. This track is a testament to his enduring talent and ability to connect with listeners personally.

Hitmaka Digs Up Tink Drama After Claiming That Succesful Men Should Be With Multiple Women

Hitmaka was recently on The Morning Hustle Show and gave a pretty hot take about relationships that fans can’t help but give context for thanks to past incidents. In the comments and in the very caption of the Instagram post below, you can see that his view that successful men shouldn’t be with just one woman had folks linking it to his previous drama with Tink, although things seem to be all amicable now. Still, there was a lot of discussion over whether or not they were an item and why they had a falling out. Regardless of your take on that, it’s not easy to ignore it when listening to the producer and rapper’s thoughts on monogamy.

“No,” Hitmaka answered a question on The Morning Hustle Show about whether or not he has a girlfriend. He seemed perplexed at the interviewer’s inquiry as to what happened, which is when he addressed whether or not he and Tink were a thing and answered why he kept her on the down-low if they were actually romantically involved. “What? I don’t have a girlfriend. No, [we aren’t in a relationship], not at all. I am telling the truth. I don’t believe that one man, a successful man, should be with one woman. Of course. No, [we’re not back and forth]. I mean, in reality, like, we do work together, we do business together, so we have ups and downs. It’s a crazy relationship. But the reality of it is that we haven’t been intimate or been in that type of vibe for damn near a year now.”

Hitmaka Drops A Hot Relationship Take While Talking About His Bond With Tink

It wasn’t really no issue with me or whatever, you know?” Hitmaka previously expressed regarding his since-resolved falling out with Tink. “Things happened, things transpired, she went to the Internet, said what she said. You know, I mean, it wasn’t nothing on my end, you know? It’s regular, and I got mad love and respect for her. I appreciate everything we did. It’s more embarrassing than anything to be out there and look like that. But, you know what I mean? I’m Yung Berg, Hitmaka, I done been out there. All my story’s out the closet so, s**t, you know, it is what it is.

Meanwhile, Maino is also calling cap on Hitmaka over their alleged scuffle, as Yung Berg denied that Maino slapped him. “Berg, why you even speaking about this issue?” he remarked. “We’re talking over 10 years [ago]. It’s not relevant. Why you taking time to make up these stories? All that’s cap. And that’s my issue. Why you even talking about this? Anytime I’m doing an interview [and] they mention that, I downplay it … I just seen him last year. I ain’t on nothing. We way past that. Why you even speaking about that?”

Bronny Unavailable For Lakers Summer League Game Due to Knee: “Just being precautionary about it”

image

Already? Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, was sidelined from the Lakers’ second game of the California Classic on Sunday due to swelling in his left knee. This disappointing development occurred a day after he made his NBA Summer League debut, scoring four points.

For context, during the first half against the Golden State Warriors, Bronny sat at the end of the bench in uniform with a white wrap on his left leg, occasionally adjusting it.

“Just being precautionary about it,” said Johnson. “The hope is (and) the plan is for him to play the next game here. But that’s all the information we have so far.”

ICYMI, in his NBA Summer League debut on Saturday night, Bronny scored four points in a 108-94 loss to the Sacramento Kings. He went 2-for-9 from the field, missed all three of his 3-point attempts, and grabbed two rebounds in 22 minutes. During the fourth quarter of the game against the Warriors, fans at the Chase Center started chanting, “We want Bronny! We want Bronny!”

The Lakers, with a 0-2 record in the California Classic, are set to play Miami on Wednesday, their last chance for a win before the Las Vegas Summer League begins on Friday. Johnson noted that Bronny’s availability for the game against the Heat would be determined by the medical team responsible for player health.

Hoping for a speedy recovery. We’re rooting for Bronny. Period.

Eminem’s ‘Tobey’ Video With Big Sean And BabyTron Delivers Brutal, Bloody Lyrical Vignettes

Eminem and Cole Bennett’s productive working relationship continues to bear fruit, four months after the release of their latest video, “Doomsday 2.” They return to the drawing board for a new concept for the “Tobey” video, reminiscent of featured rapper BabyTron‘s “100 Bars.” Just like in that video, Bennett produces duplicates of Eminem, BabyTron, and Big Sean that each rap a line from their respective verses while they scroll through various tableaus, from a busy packing plant to the bloody, brutal murder scene from the teaser Em shared ahead of the single’s release.

“Tobey” will presumably appear on Em’s upcoming album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). First announced in April after a “shady” pump fake for April Fools’ Day, Eminem’s twelfth studio album seems to be a return to form after the more political leanings of prior recent projects like Kamikaze and Revival. At the very least, it teases a return to the tongue-in-cheek, comedic material he created early in his career, judging by the video and lyrical content of lead single “Houdini.” Even so, he still finds time on “Tobey” to do a little more Music To Be Murdered By-style grousing about his placement on a recent “best rappers” list.

Ice Spice References Viral NSFW Lyric From GloRilla’s “TGIF” In Revealing Twitter Post

Ice Spice and GloRilla have been going hit for hit in 2024 since the beginning of the year. The latter has the slight edge on the former because the Memphis rapper put out her mixtape, Ehhthang Ehhthang. That also holds some extra major tracks such as “Wanna Be” “No Bih”, and more. Fans might also side with Big Glo in this comparison, as a lot of people seem to be quickly turning on the “Munch” artist. However, we feel they could be knotted up once the New York drill musician drops off her debut album, Y2K!

It will be on streaming platforms in a couple of more weeks, with July 26 being the big day. It is indeed an important release for Ice Spice, especially because of the added pressure from listeners and even her competition such as Latto. Thankfully, the “boys a liar” hitmaker still has a lot of support from the ladies surrounding her, with GloRilla being one that seemingly has no animosity toward her. Spice confirms that they are cool with one another after a very suggestive post on X (formerly Twitter).

Ice Spice Was On Her GloRilla Energy With This Tweet

GloRilla has another banger on her hands currently with “TGIF” thanks to her memorable performance and a trunk-knocking beat. A lot of the lyrics have also been going quite viral, like this one, “Crop top with some bikers shorts, I’m showin’ off my moose knuckle (Woo) / I’m feelin’ good today (Yeah)“. If you need help understanding, “moose knuckle” is way of referring to a woman’s privates and the outline it creates when wearing tight clothing. Well, Ice Spice was also “feelin’ good today“, as she showed off the goods in a pink bodysuit before working out. We wonder how Central Cee feels about this?

What are your thoughts on Ice Spice alluding to the NSFW lyrics in GloRilla’s “TGIF” single on Twitter? Is this one of the wildest images a rapper has shared this year so far? Do you think these two should collaborate? Where do you rank the Memphis MC’s track in terms of major hits in 2024? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Ice Spice and GloRilla. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Sexyy Red Denies Rumors That She Will Cancel Tour Due To Low Sales

Sexyy Red is among the many artists taking their talents on the road this year, joining other hip-hop tours as must-see entertainment for 2024. But it seems like not everyone agrees, or at least, that’s what certain reports online indicated recently concerning the Sexyy Red 4 President tour. Moreover, per The Art Of Dialogue and Touring Data, the run of shows is facing pretty low sales, and rumors spread that it might be canceled outright. Well, don’t fret, Redheads (if that’s their Stan name, of course): the St. Louis MC recently took to Twitter to deny any sort of cancelation.

“My fans are buying tickets we’re doin just fine,” Sexyy Red tweeted on Monday (July 8). “We not cancelling no tour dis cancelling s**t all cap [two cap emojis]. Dis how Dey try to do u wen u go wit an independent promoter n the bigger companies try to sabotage u we not cancelling s**t. I did my touring deal with a black promoter black owned company AG Entertainment and now Dey playin dirty paying pages spreading fake news to discourage my fans from buying tickets.”

Sexyy Red Says She Isn’t Canceling Her Tour & Claims Sabotage From Big Touring Companies

But Sexyy Red isn’t the only one defending her artistry and career, as MC Lyte recently explained why she thinks Sexyy gets too much hate. “Nothing that we see is really new,” she expressed. “And so, you know, we’ve all lived through the advent of ‘My Neck, My Back.’ Trina, Kim, Foxy… You know, so we lived that. So nothing surprises us, I don’t think. As an artist, as a creator, everyone’s always pushing the limits and the boundaries. But also, she didn’t pop out of a planet. She came from a neighborhood where this is how they speak to one another, this is how they communicate. And so this is definitely art imitating life. I think it’s important for people to know that it appears to me that she’s being herself. Whenever you’re being yourself, how can anybody argue with that?”

Meanwhile, others believe that Sexyy Red deserved the Best New Artist accolade at the 2024 BET Awards over Tyla. But such is the case whenever two talented artists can’t win the same prize. Either way, Druski said that he’s got his eyes on both after his split from Rubi Rose. Maybe he could try to help the Hood Hottest Princess with dispelling these tour rumors, and he’ll have a better shot.
