9th Wonder knows how to get the best out of rappers. He codified the sound of Little Brother in the 2000s, before going on to make classic joint albums with the likes of Talib Kweli, Skyzoo and Murs. His sample chops are less eccentric than, say, Madlib, but he displays unparalleled talent when it comes to bringing out the soulfulness of his collaborators on record. This is what makes the prospect of a 9th and Larry June tape so exciting.

9th Wonder was fielding questions from fans on May 20, when one fan noted how good a collaboration with Larry June would sound. “We need a @9thwonder and @LarryJuneTFM project,” they tweeted. 9th responded to the fan by letting him know that the process of making the project were already underway. “I’ve sent him beats,” 9th Wonder tweeted back. “About a 20 piece.” This would be an exciting change for the producer, given that he’s worked with the same few artists for most of the 2020s.

9th Wonder Recently Sent Larry June A Beats Pack

He linked up with Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper and Kamasi Washington for the acclaimed Dinner Party album in 2020. He also produced multiple projects for The Musalini and Hus KingPin. 9th linking up with Larry June would be a distinct shift, given how June’s relaxed flow contrasts with the aggression of both Musalini and Hus. June, meanwhile, has been on an excellent run of joint albums with iconic producers. He worked with Cardo, Alchemist and Harry Fraud among countless others.

As he told Complex, though, he wants to continue to change up his instrumental palate. “I’ve worked with a lot of producers that have big presences like that,” he noted. The attention to detail makes sense, given that June started off as a producer himself.

“I like to create a sound that I can always come back to,” June added. “If you listen to my catalogue, you will hear different pockets on different tapes. Because I’m bringing my world into their world because it’s a collaborative project.” The rapper likened the process to cooking. “It’s just one rapper, one producer, so it’s like we’re creating a pasta.” Hopefully we will get the 9th Wonder and Larry June pasta soon.

Last month, the family of OJ Simpson took to Twitter/X to announce that he had succumbed to prostate cancer. The infamous former NFL star was long believed to have been responsible for the 1994 death of his second wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. After his arrest and highly publicized trial, OJ was acquitted. Now, her family has broken their silence on his passing in a preview ahead of an upcoming Lifetime documentary.

The documentary, The Life And Murder Of Nicole Brown Simpson, is slated for release in two parts. The first part airs on June 1, and the other the following day. In a clip from the highly anticipated doc, Brown’s sisters Denise, Dominque, and Tanya recount some of the alleged abuse she faced at the hands of OJ. According to them, she had been living in fear before her untimely passing. “She always thought he was going to hurt her,” one of her sisters says in a clip. “She always knew it.”

Nicole Brown Simpson’s Sisters Speak

US Department Of Justice Reportedly Suing To Break Up Live Nation & Ticketmaster, Citing ‘Illegally Maintaining A Monopoly’

In April, The Wall Street Journal reported that The US Department Of Justice would soon file a lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster due to their joint monopoly over concert promotion. According to Bloomberg and The New York Times, the lawsuit is expected to be filed on Thursday, May 23, in the Southern District Of New York by the Department Of Justice and “a group of states.”

The New York Times relayed that the Department Of Justice is reportedly “accusing [Live Nation Entertainment] of illegally maintaining a monopoly in the live entertainment industry,” citing three unnamed sources.

“The government plans to argue in a lawsuit that Live Nation shored up its power through Ticketmaster’s exclusive ticketing contracts with concert venues, as well as the company’s dominance over concert tours and other businesses like venue management, said two of the people, who declined to be named because the lawsuit was still private,” The New York Times report continued. “That helped the company maintain a monopoly, raising prices and fees for consumers and limiting innovation in the ticket industry, the people said. The government will argue that tours promoted by the company were more likely to play venues where Ticketmaster was the exclusive ticket service, one of the people said, and that Live Nation’s artists played venues that it owns.”

Bloomberg additionally noted, “The move is the latest antitrust suit pursued by the Biden administration, which has made competition a key component of its economic policy, bringing cases against companies including Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Amazon.com Inc.”

This is far from the first time Ticketmaster has had legal troubles, but Ticketmaster’s reputation was really set ablaze with its gross mishandling of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour in late 2022, which earned a scathing statement from Swift, an investigation by the Department Of Justice, and a Senate Committee hearing.

Diddy has been one of the most talked about names in hip-hop this year, though not for reasons anyone would want to be. Dating back to last year he’s been subject to a series of lawsuits accusing him of decades of predatory sexual behavior. That’s put many who have worked alongside him in his decades in the music industry in an awkward position. One of those was Kelly Price, who found herself facing controversy after commenting on one of the rap mogul’s Instagram posts.

Price’s initial comment spoke on forgiveness and Diddy’s talent. She encouraged him to seek forgiveness claiming that she’s seen him at his best and “representing light.” It’s easy to see why fans took issue with the suggestion that he should be forgiven for the bad behavior he’s been accused of. It looked particularly bad in the wake of the video proof of his actions against Cassie that leaked over the weekend. Now Price is attempting to clarify her comments with a series of videos posted to her Instagram story. In the clips she explains that she was merely telling Diddy he had to do “soul work.” She says that he has to do the hard work getting his soul right in order for there to ever be real change. Meek Mill Claims He Doesn’t Believe In Hell After Unfollowing Diddy

Meek Mill has really been putting his Twitter fingers to use in 2024. The rapper has gotten in heated exchanges with other rappers, and defended (or at least, tried to defend) his close relationship with the disgraced Diddy. Most of these social media encounters have not gone his way. He did, however, decide to unfollow Diddy on Instagram after footage of the mogul attacking Cassie was released on CNN. Meek apparently had enough. The Philadelphia rapper then decided to share his thoughts on the afterlife via X (formerly Twitter).

Meek Mill, who used to pray on his song “Times Like This,” does not believe in organized religion. That’s what he told his followers on May 21. He also revealed that he’s been a non-believer since he was a teen. “I don’t have a religion due to the simple facts of racism and judgement and now war,” he wrote. “I made my mind up at the age of 15 living in treacherous conditions.” While surprising, Meek’s tweet made some sense given his difficult life experiences.

It was the rest of the tweet that made things confusing. Despite claiming not to have a religion, the rapper claimed he still believed in God. He just didn’t believe in the darker aspects of religion, like hell. “I strongly believed in god,” he asserted. “He answered every prayer. I don’t believe in hell and I don’t need too because my heart gold.” Meek Mill’s decision to cherry pick which aspects of spirituality he believes in is certainly a choice, but it falls in line with the rapper’s admirable effort to set a good example.

Meek talked about the importance of positivity as recently as January. “Being gangsta will get you hurt put in jail or killed,” he tweeted. “Being smart will get you out of poverty and your family and friends living better … It’s no comparison, being smart is the only solid way out the trenches… everything else is wide range life risk just to survive.” Meek has continued to pick fights with other celebrities since this tweet, but the sentiment remains a solid one. Having the key to New York City rescinded from him wouldn’t come close to the biggest problems Diddy is facing right now. The rap mogul has faced months of lawsuits leveling pretty serious accusations of bad behavior across decades. Just this week yet another lawsuit was filed against him. The newest includes claims that he drugged and sexually assaulted a model. Over the weekend, hotel security footage was leaked by CNN that shows Diddy allegedly assaulting Cassie. The video backed up claims made by Cassie in a lawsuit filed late last year.

Now that the controversy has built up, fans online are calling for various boycotts of Diddy. Recently, exercise equipment company Peloton announced they would be removing his music from all future classes they put out. There’s also been plenty of pressure applied by both fans and even members of government themselves for the rap mogul’s key to the city to be revoked. When TMZ spoke to come representatives about it, a different rap figure from the city’s history emerged as a potential replacement, Nas. Diddy first received the key to the city last year, just a few months before the lawsuit filed by Cassie dropped.
