Bradley Beal Reportedly Got Tilted By Hyped Prospect Cooper Flagg

Cooper Flagg is one of the most coveted prospects of the 2025 recruiting class. Currently ranked as the #2 player in the class by ESPN, everyone wants the 6’8, 200lb forward who is widely considered the best rim defender currently playing at the high school level. Flagg, at the time of writing, has 11 collegiate offers, including Duke. He is currently playing out of the Montverde Academy in Florida.

However, if currently circulating rumors are to be believed, Flagg recently got into with an established NBA star. According to Sean Deveney of Heavy, Flagg recently attended a basketball camp hosted by Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics. Additionally, Helping with the camp was Bradley Beal of the Phoenix Suns, who is a good friend of Tatum’s. Furthermore, if Deveney’s reporting is correct, Beal and Flagg really got into it at the camp.

Beal And Flagg Reportedly Get Heated

“I heard a rumor that my boy Cooper Flagg was at Jayson Tatum’s camp and he was busting Brad Beal 1-on-1, and Brad Beal got mad at him. Started cussing him out,” Scalabrine said. “This dude is a major trash-talker. … So I guess the rumor is that Brad Beal and him were squaring off 1-on-1 and Brad Beal was taking it lightly. It’s a high school kid. Then Cooper started giving it to him. And I guess the rumor is, Cooper started talking trash and Bradley Beal got mad. Really mad,” said Brian Scalabrine, a former NBA player who has worked with Flagg as a private trainer. While the story should be taken with a grain of salt, it goes to show the legend that Flagg is building for himself.

As mentioned, Flagg is currently the #2 player in the Class of 2025. However, as one NBA scout put it, “He will be the No. 1 pick,” one scout told Heavy Sports. “It is just a matter of what year he comes in. But even if he were to get hurt or something, he’d probably be No. 1 still.” Despite the competition for that first-choice status, Flagg could make it a moot point if he reclassifies to the Class of 2024, as many expect him to do. That would mean he would be eligible for the NBA Draft in 2025, where his biggest competition to go first overall would be Tre Johnson or Airious Bailey.

Drake Breaks Record With His “It’s All A Blur” Tour, Makes Over $5M In One Night

Drake set off on his “It’s All A Blur” tour alongside 21 Savage last month, and his recent performances in Washington broke a record. Reportedly, the artist earned more than $5 million each night at Capital One Arena, making him the first rapper ever to earn that much in a single arena performance. The feat is worth celebrating, though it’s unsurprising considering how well the tour has gone thus far. No stranger to success, Drake was also recently named Rap Caviar’s 2023 MVP.

The “It’s All A Blur” tour will run until October, with notable dates in Los Angeles, Inglewood, Toronto, and more. The tour’s featured various special guests so far, including Lil Yachty, and most recently, Meek Mill. It’s been getting a lot of attention for the antics of Drake’s fanbase. Lately, they’ve even been launching bras at the rapper. It all started when one well-endowed fan threw her 36DD bra onstage in Chicago. “Some knocks,” he noted. Ever since, he’s been met with countless pieces of lingerie, including one 36G bra from a fan in Brooklyn. Drake demanded that fans “immediately” locate the woman, and they eventually came through. The woman behind the “knocks” was found to be Veronica Correia, who even reportedly received an offer from Playboy following the incident.

Drake’s “It’s All A Blur” Tour

Drake has also been teasing his next album in recent weeks, For All The Dogs. The album is confirmed to feature Nicki Minaj as well as “the old Drake.” Fans are eager to hear the rapper’s latest offering, as evidenced by audiences barking at him during recent tour stops. Listeners shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to hear For All The Dogs, as Drizzy recently revealed it’ll drop in coming weeks.

Alongside the album update, Drake told concertgoers at Madison Square Garden just how much his fans mean to him. “Just know, you’re always with me and I’m always thinking of you and everything I do is for you,” he shared. “Every time I step in that booth, I hope to make you proud.”

Beyonce Collaborator Recalls Her Making Emmy Replicas For Her Team After “Homecoming” Loss

Hannah Beachler, an Academy Award-winning production designer who has worked with Beyonce, recently recalled the singer passing out Emmy replicas for her team after the documentary, Homecoming, lost at the awards ceremony. Beachler wrote about the story on Twitter while sharing a video of Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King praising the Renaissance singer.

“Working with Beyoncé over the years, I have said this each and every time,” Beachler began in her series of posts. “It’s not just on stage. She is tentacles of light, and those tentacles wrap you in power, love, and confidence. She is kind and protective and she’s a girls girl. This is her presence daily.”

She continued: “She is a true Mama to her babies too. And she works, not to perfection but until it’s right. She is in love with her husband and he’s (a comedian and kind) in love with her. But be clear don’t cross her.”

In another post, Beachler explained that she learned of the Emmy replicas while working on Black is King. She wrote: “One last little story. When I started on Black is King & went to the L.A. offices. There was a bunch of little plastic Emmy Awards w/handwritten names on them,” she said. “They told me b/c they didn’t win for Homecoming, B stayed up after & made everyone their own special one w/ a note.” Check out Beachler’s tweets regarding Beyonce below.

The praise for Beyonce’s behind-the-scenes behavior comes on the same day that Lizzo has been coming under fire for a lawsuit that accuses her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. Three dancers are suing her for damages over emotional distress including unpaid wages, loss of earnings, and attorney’s fees.

Kylie Jenner Bratz Collab Roasted By Fans

Bratz was launched in 2001 by MGA Entertainment. The doll line was created by a former Mattel employee and sold to MGA after Mattel passed on his pitch. Bratz was also seen as being “more real” than Barbie, a down to Earth alternative to the idealistic Barbie brand. However, the brand has often been steeped in controversy, especially when it came to legal similarities to the Barbie brand itself. However, in a major move, Bratz recently announced their first-ever celebrity collaboration. Kylie Jenner would serve as the inspiration for six dolls sold in a limited-series run. These dolls feature various iconic outfits worn by Jenner, including her dresses from the 2019 and 2021 Met Galas.

“She’s here, Bratz Pack! 💕 We’ve joined forces with icon @kyliejenner for a super stylin’ collab, starting with our Mini Bratz x @kyliejenner collectibles that have officially landed online and in stores at Walmart, Target, and Amazon! However, fans were less than impressed with the announcement. “So Kylie def gives bratz energy but something ain’t right here at all lol,” one critic wrote on X. “The fact that the Kylie Bratz dolls are brown are weird asf. That girl is white asf.” added another. The dolls’ skin color was a particular source of contention. The Kardashians, like many white celebrities, have long been accused of stealing from and appropriating Black culture to make themselves more marketable. “Giving Kylie (a white woman who modeled her face/body around Black women) her own Bratz doll (which is an arguably more Urban/Black presenting doll) before an ACTUAL Black woman is… weird,” one X user summarized.

Elsewhere, people simply felt that the dolls were just…not right. “I feel like they did a kardashian because they’re who u think of on ‘Instagram Face’ which is similar to the Bratz makeup but still don’t seem right 🥴,” another X user noted. “Kylie Jenner is a sicko lmaooo sis literally skimmed off the top of the entire Black girl aesthetic and is getting a BRATZ collection that’s not even based off her natural features,” argued another. Safe to say that it is far from the reaction that the dolls’ creator was likely hoping for. The Bratz x Kylie Jenner collection is reportedly retailing for $9.99 per capsule.

Quavo Delayed His Upcoming Solo Album ‘Rocket Power’ To ‘Run Some More Tests’

It looks like we’re going to have to wait a little bit longer for Quavo‘s second solo album, Rocket Power. Yesterday, the Migos rapper took to Instagram to share that Rocket Power has been pushed back.

In a video on Quavo’s account, the Atlanta rapper is seen listening to mixes of the new album. “We gotta run some more tests before the rocket is ready to launch,” the post’s caption reads.

The album was originally set to drop this Friday, but has now been pushed back two weeks. The album is largely inspired by his Migos bandmate Takeoff, who was killed last November following an altercation in Houston.

In a recent interview with Jamie Crawford-Walker, Quavo shared that he has felt Takeoff’s presence everywhere as he’s been working on the project.

“I miss him a lot and I love him,” Quavo said. “He know I love him. That’s what we always know. So when you see me and you see me smiling or something like that, you don’t gotta never think I forgot about him or I’ll forget about him. I think about him all the time. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep. And that’s it. I just know he’s here. If I can’t feel him, I just know he’s around.”

Rocket Power is out 8/18 via Quality Control/Capitol.

The Hip-Hop Icons That Don’t Get Their Due

With hip-hop celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, it’s been amazing to see a number of rap legends and leaders of the new school getting highlighted throughout the year. And while moments at the Grammys and BET Awards set the stage for a year-long celebration, there are still a number of icons in their own right who don’t get their due.

It’s been refreshing to see rappers like E-40 and Black Thought finally getting much-deserved credit for being certified all-timers in recent years, and while there are surely countless artists who could use more recognition, here are nine others who deserve their flowers; especially now in hip-hop’s 50th year.

Big L

Big L was an absolute killer on the mic, but his life was cut tragically short in 1999 at the age of 24. The Harlem rapper was on a major come up at the time of his death, primed to sign with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records before things were cut short.

He was a member of famed NY crew DITC, a pioneer of the independent hip-hop movement with his artist-run label Flamboyant Entertainment, and even collaborated with 2Pac on the supreme cut, “Deadly Combination” (Rumor has it 2Pac recorded the song with Big L less than an hour before 2Pac was shot and killed himself.)

Big L’s mastery was never more evident than on “Ebonics,” where he managed to lay out the entire hip-hop vernacular in a manner that was both entertaining and totally comprehensive.

MC Lyte

Coming up in the late ’80s, MC Lyte was actually the first female solo rapper to drop an album with Lyte As A Rock in 1988. This widely publicized factoid somehow still isn’t publicized enough, a testament to exactly why the Brooklyn rapper belongs on this list. Hip-hop was and is still male-dominant and Lyte blazed a trail in dropping sick rhymes that were firmly from the female perspective — before a lot of the women who currently get most of the credit for doing so. With each of her eight albums, the rapper and activist shapeshifted with an edge, normalizing the female point-of-view in hip-hop while the genre took form and flourished.

Aceyalone

Coming up with LA-based crew Freestyle Fellowship, Aceyalone is a crucial figure in the rise of West Coast hip-hop’s independent scene. A central figure on Freestyle Fellowship’s classic albums like To Whom It May Concern and Innercity Griots, it was on his own that Ace-one became a storied MC.

A Book Of Human Language is a benchmark for the hip-hop concept album, with Acey flashing elite skills on tracks like “The Balance” and especially, “The Guidelines.” And it’s how there never seems to be a pause button when Aceyalone gets going into another dimension of lyricism that truly sets him apart.

Gift Of Gab

The Blackalicious MC is best known for the now pop culture ubiquity of “Alphabet Aerobics,” and there’s nary been a wordsmith as loquaciously creative as he. Paired with producer Chief Xcel, the vocal half of the Bay Area duo floated over soul-sampled beats with existential rhymes that were pound-for-pound more technical than just about anyone else in hip-hop. He helped lead the Quannum Collective from the early ’90s onward alongside artists like DJ Shadow and Lyrics Born. Sadly, he died in 2021 after a courageous battle with kidney failure, but he’s undoubtedly a hip-hop hero.

Phonte

With Little Brother, Phonte is a force behind perhaps the last true great group to come out of hip-hop’s Golden Age. Every bar he’s ever laid down on a Little Brother record shows that he’s one of the smartest MCs who can shift easily from rapping about heavy themes to not taking himself too seriously. With the Foreign Exchange, he put down refined R&B alongside producer Nicolay and his solo work is honest, grown-man rap that’s never afraid to be vulnerable in order to get real. Today, the North Carolina product is also the co-host of the Questlove Supreme podcast and has composed music for TV and film. Drake even called Phonte one of his primary influences, even though he never featured him on a track. For shame, sir!

Jean Grae

There’s a problem with female rappers getting their due praise to begin with, but Jean Grae’s work is undoubtedly iconic. The New York City MC shines on her sharp delivery, her ability to align with melodies, and her give no fucks sense of humor. Released in the 2000s, Attack of The Attacking Things and Jeanius are underground classics — the latter produced by 9th Wonder. Grae has also been a go-to featured voice across a number of tracks by Talib Kweli, The Herbaliser, and more. Her collaborative album, Everything’s Fine, with her partner Quelle Chris was Bandcamp’s No. 1 album of 2018.

Roots Manuva

One of the early products of the British rap scene, Roots Manuva seemingly straddled the line of grime, predating its rise with his own style. Born to Jamaican parents, Roots’ music often incorporates heavy dub and dancehall influences, but the production also skews towards electronic, making him well ahead of his time at the turn of the millennium. His sage-like voice is unmistakable and he’s appeared on albums by heavyweights such as Gorillaz and Massive Attack.

Ishmael Butler

You might know Ishmael Butler by one of his alter egos: Butterfly (with Digable Planets) or Palaceer Lazaro (with Shabazz Palaces). His place in hip-hop lore is marked by one of the most fascinating transformations ever. With Digable Planets, Butterfly was the boho-hipster MC/producer of the seminal hip-hop group. Then with Shabazz Palaces, Butler took a mystical turn towards afrofuturism with the prolific experimental hip-hop duo. A Seattle native, he’s also helped storied indie rock label Sub Pop Records develop the more left-of-center part of their roster.

Kool Keith

A hip-hop OG, Kool Keith came up with Ultramagnetic MCs in the mid-’80s. Whether true or not, an early rumor claimed that he had previously been in an insane asylum, and Keith seemed to relish that tale throughout his career. Across solo projects as Kool Keith or his alter egos Dr. Octagon and Dr. Dooom, Keith delivers downright batshit crazy flows. He jumps from rapping in space to wreaking havoc in a deranged psychiatric ward to romancing a lady in his “Monkey-green ragtop Seville.” In the vein of the great Shock G, Keith led the charge on weird rap and embraced the lunatic personas he created for himself to become a true original.

Method Man Opens Up About PTSD And His Mental Health

Method Man’s career in the corners of hip-hop is one to remember. From being a key member of the Wu-Tang Clan to developing an extensive solo career, he really has done it all. However, there is a vast amount of celebrities from all different paths that have difficulty conquering their personal health. Most of them are kept under lock and key and for good reason. But, in this case, Method Man wanted to be transparent about his arduous trek to feel well again.

Other artists featured in this piece were Ludacris, Common, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, and Wiz Khalifa. The interview was conducted with Men’s Health on August 1, and Method Man wanted to be as open as possible. Specifically focusing on the biggest part of his career during the 90s and early 2000s, the years of the Wu-Tang Clan. The meteoric rise to fame was so much for Method Man at the time, that he really did not take it as seriously as he should have. “It went from this childhood joy to this euphoric feeling of celebrity to feeling inadequate and not good enough,” he said.

What brought Method Man’s confidence and happiness back was becoming liable for what he could control. “What can I control? That’s what I did; I took control after that. I stopped valuing other people’s opinions, and instead of being my biggest critic, I became my biggest fan,” he explained. Other methods he experimented with were late gym sessions to aid in his fight with insomnia which lasted 18 months. All in all, he is in a better place, saying “Show that you love yourself. That’s all I’ve been doing. What people see now is just happiness.”
