Coi Leray Says There Are No Friends In The Industry & Rap Is A Competition

Coi Leray recently sat down for an enlightening conversation with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1’s Rap Life Radio. On it, they discussed a whole host of topics, ranging from her brand new sophomore album to industry relationships. While the Boston native remarked that a lot of industry people know each other and stay at least amicable, she doesn’t believe that there are any true friendships in the industry. Rather, it’s still a competition at the end of the day, but she didn’t seem to suggest so in a disloyal or backstabbing manner. Instead, Coi emphasized that this should be a friendly competition, and that genuine connections can form.

“I mean, look, the other side of it is, you know, everybody ain’t got to be friends, but we can all be positive,” Ebro remarked. “One thousand percent,” Coi Leray agreed. “Nobody’s friends, we don’t know each other in real life, you feel me? If we meet in person and, you know, we have a genuine relationship from there organically, then whatever. But I don’t think no one’s friends. I think, at the end of the day, it is a competition here, not everybody can be number one. But at the same time, it should be friendly competition. If we all on the same track team, and it’s time to race, and we practicing, I’m dusting you even though you my right hand. But it’s time to race, we got practice. But respectfully, you know? That’s how I look at it.”

Coi Leray’s Remarks On A Competitive Industry

Interestingly enough, another topic of conversation that came up in the interview was Latto’s line about the “Bops” hitmaker’s body on “Put It On Da Floor.” As she remarked on the situation and her reaction, she alluded to similar themes. “It’s not a sensitive conversation,” Coi Leray reflected. “I feel like it wasn’t more about the body, it was more of mentioning my name. I’m about positivity. For real. And I wasn’t sure where it was coming from. And not only that, I feel like the problem with our community today is we be so quick to try to change things but we don’t do nothing to actually change anything.

“So if we’re going to say we’re going to stop talking about bodies, then don’t mention anything about my body,” she went on. “Just period. Don’t compare me to nothing, don’t think about nothing. We’re not smoking on anything, it’s disrespect. And where I come from I just don’t like that. I don’t know, it’s starting to get old. The rap beefs are for the guys. You know, I don’t even think they should do it. Us artists, we kind of control the narrative. Teyana Taylor absolutely showed out in Paris in the past few days. The singer, model, actress, and overall icon was taking part in the Marine Serre Fashion Show in the French capital. Serre is one of the fashion industry’s biggest up-and-comers. Despite being just 31 years old, she is taking the fashion industry by storm. She won the LVMH prize for Young Fashion Designers in 2017.

Of course, everyone whose anyone is currently in Paris for Paris Fashion Week, one of the must-attend functions of the fashion world. The semi-annual event began on June 20 and concluded on June 25. Every house had their own show, with Pharrell notably serving as the Creative Director for Louis Vuitton show. However, that may soon be forgotten given the looks that Taylor was serving.

Teyana Taylor Stuns For Marine Serre

Taylor showcased two outfits on the runway. The first was a white mini-dress with writing across the bust and multi-colored streamers wrapping her around her body. The second outfit, seen in backstage footage reposted by The Shade Room, was even more jaw-dropping. Taylor strutted her stuff, and flaunted her curves, in a skin-tight black bodysuit adorned with silver crescent moons. It’s safe to say that Taylor ate and left absolutely no crumbs. Taylor had been seen around Paris, mostly wearing black, for other house shows during the week.

Social media was equally in awe of Taylor’s looks. “What do she do?’ I do everything! I move everything! Put that on my wedding ring! Rihanna & ASAP Rocky Fly To Barbados For A Baecation After Turning Heads In Paris

Not only has Rihanna been travelling all over the world since announcing her second pregnancy in February, but she’s been doing it in style with ASAP Rocky by her side. We’ve seen the lovers visit Japan, where the soon-to-be father of two wore a graphic tee covered in miniature memes of himself, and more recently, they were in Paris to support Pharrell. Aside from Beyonce and Jay-Z, Rihanna and ASAP were arguably one of the best-dressed couples at the Louis Vuitton runway show, where they coordinated in all-blue outfits.

As Daily Mail reports, after finishing up their to-do list in France, Rocky and his “wife” (as he called Rihanna during his live performance in Europe this past week) caught a flight to Barbados. It seems to have become a tradition for the pair, as they visited the Fenty Beauty founder’s home country when she was nine months pregnant with RZA. She appears to be just as far along this time around. Of course, no information about the little one’s gender or due date is public knowledge yet.

Rihanna Returns to Her Homeland Ahead of Baby No. 2

Tyrese Details Divorce Process

For those unaware, screen star and R&B artist Tyrese is undergoing thorough quite the arduous divorce process with his ex-wife Samantha Lee. Not only that, but the actor vocalized his thoughts and process throughout this process quite strongly, whether on social media or in press conversations. Most recently, he called his relationship with his ex-wife “just a transaction” as their court battle rages on. On that side of things, the Fast & Furious star expressed a will to challenge the judge’s decision to have him pay $650,000 in child support and legal fees to Samantha and her team. During an interview with The Shade Room at the BET Awards on Sunday (June 25), he answered a question about an update concerning his legal stance and where the courtroom’s at right now.

“Well, everything is being appealed,” Tyrese remarked. “Like, everything. You know, I don’t want to get into the legal rabbit hole. But I can just tell y’all to keep it simple. If you argue about the validity of a pre-nuptial agreement, then it’s considered a contested- that’s legal language. If we not arguing about the prenup or the validity of the prenup, it’s non-contested. Nothing to talk about. But if it’s contested, then we’re trying to creatively argue about the validity of this paperwork that we did.

Tyrese’s Update On His Divorce In Court

“So yeah, all of those legal fees, everything that’s been going on from the beginning,” Tyrese went on. “We have paperwork that says, ‘If this marriage were to ever fall apart, we have a pre-nuptial.’ Prior to the nuptials, that’s been established. So they cracked it. They cracked the prenup. Yeah, so everything is about to get reversed, flipped. All of my legal fees from the day that she filed, it’s all going to drop on her head. It’s coming.”

Meanwhile, this process proved to be a much more divisive affair among fans than you might expect. In fact, other celebrities like Snoop Dogg have chimed in as well, with the MC publicly supporting the 44-year-old amid his mental health struggles. MGK and Casie are seen in good spirits during the tattoo process, and luckily, it appears as though another artist is on standby. Fans have yet to receive a closer look at his new ink.

“My daughter said summer vacation, we ended up at Hellfest,” MGK captioned the IG photo dump. Fans in his comments section were eager to share their love for the father-daughter duo. “I like the old MGK, but I love the relationship he has with his kid. Earlier this month, MGK’s partner Megan Fox was seen supporting him at his performance at the Waldbühne in Germany. She was spotted amid rumors that the pair had “halted” wedding plans in light of their recent relationship drama. A source told PEOPLE that MGK is “totally in the dog house still,” claiming that Fox is “having a hard time trusting him.” “He’s doing whatever he can to get her back,” the source also claimed, “and she’s making him work for it. Lance Armstrong Roasted For Questioning The “Fairness” Of Trans Athletes

Lance Armstrong was once the greatest cyclist on the planet. When he won the Tour de France in 1999, he was the first American in nearly a decade to win the race. Then he proceeded to win the next six races in a row. That made him the most dominant rider in the race’s history. However, it all came crashing down when, in 2012, he admitted to prolonged and prolific steroid use throughout his career. His titles were stripped and now he is considered a dark stain on the sport’s history.

Meanwhile, the war against transgender individuals in the United States continues. Per the Trans Legislation Tracker, 590 anti-trans bills have been submitted to 49 state legislatures (shout out to Delaware). These bills fundamentally seek to erase trans people, be it physically or societally. Furthermore, the right wing especially is obsessed with is the issue of trans athletes. Despite victories by trans athletes being so rare that each one warrants its own news cycle, there are those who believe that they are the biggest problem facing women’s sports. It appears that Armstrong is one of these people.

Armstrong Comments On The “Fairness” Of Trans Athletes

In a stunning lack of self-awareness, Armstrong was just “asking questions” about trans athletes. “Is there not a world in which one can be supportive of the transgender community and curious about the fairness of Trans athletes in sport yet not be labeled a transphobe or a bigot as we ask questions? Do we yet know the answers? And do we even want to know the answers?” Once again, for clarification – the success of trans athletes is so minimal that it is essentially insignificant.

However, it was surprising that Armstrong wanted to talk about fairness. After all, it wasn’t a trans athlete who was stripped of 7 Tour de France medals due to rampant cheating. It’s weird that when people are just trying to be themselves, that’s when Armstrong cares about fairness. Social media was in agreement, absolutely roasting Armstrong for the tone-deaf take. Tyler Perry: A Trailblazer In Black Cinema & Entertainment

Tyler Perry has become one of the most revered entertainment industry icons. He boasts a highly successful three-decade career covering both the stage and the screen. Perry’s work spans a multitude of plays, movies, genres, and formats, and when he’s not behind the camera, he’s right in front of it. From theatrical characters to one very lovable slapstick favorite, there’s very little he cannot portray. 

The filmmaker is also the recipient of numerous accolades. He is widely regarded as a formidable entity in the Black community. His most exceptional moments of recognition include receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy Awards, as well as being inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. Perry also may just become the next owner of Black Entertainment Television (BET). His contributions to Black entertainment as a whole have been truly exceptional over the years. 

Difficult Childhood & Early Beginnings

Before finding success with his plays and movies, Tyler Perry suffered a rollercoaster of emotions as a child. He has been very vocal about the many traumas he endured during his youth. Born Emmitt Perry Jr., he would later change his name at 16 to Tyler in order to distance himself from his abusive, alcoholic father. Perry revealed that his father beat him constantly and was sexually abusive to others. Furthermore, Perry himself was the victim of sexual abuse by numerous adults in his life. 

His only source of refuge from the many pains he suffered was going to church with his mother every week. The church has become an active part of many of Tyler Perry’s movies, series, and plays. A DNA test later revealed that Emmitt Perry Sr. was not Tyler’s biological father. After a rough upbringing, the media titan found solace in writing in his twenties, which led to his first successful play, I Know I’ve Been Changed. 

Tyler Perry’s Breakthrough 

By the early nineties, Tyler Perry worked tirelessly to get his plays in front of the right audiences. In September 1999, Perry debuted the now-beloved character Mable “Madea” Simmons. Madea would later become a cultural icon and a staple of Black cinema. The character has appeared in over 20 productions across film, television, and on stage, as well as animated projects. 

His first movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, is a cult classic, especially among African American households. From 2006 onwards, Perry began to both direct and write successful films. His most notable films as a director, writer, and producer include: Daddy’s Little Girls, Why Did I Get Married?, I Can Do All Bad By Myself, For Colored Girls, Acrimony, and A Fall From Grace. Perry also co-produced the Oscar-winning drama Precious alongside Lee Daniels and longtime friend and partner Oprah Winfrey. 

Partnership With Oprah

In 2012, Tyler Perry partnered with Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) to create multiple scripted television programs for the network. The most popular series he’s created for OWN is undoubtedly The Haves and the Have Nots, which ran for eight seasons and 196 episodes between 2013 and 2021. The Haves and the Have Nots was a huge success for the network, and was praised for its highly inclusive casting diversity. 

Tyler Perry Studios

Perry is the founder and owner of Tyler Perry Studios, one of the largest film production studios in the United States. With over $900 million in revenue, Perry cemented himself as a leading job producer in Atlanta and the U.S. The studio has accommodated the filming of some highly successful blockbusters over the years. Scenes from the movies Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Red Notice, and A Jazzman’s Blues were shot in Tyler Perry Studios. The upcoming Blade movie featuring Mahershala Ali will also have scenes shot in the famous studio. 

Life Outside Of Entertainment

Tyler Perry has been very open about his personal life while staying relatively private. Themes of forgiveness, love, and grace heavily influenced his earlier works. While his newer projects still maintain many of these themes, they’re much more expansive today. However, most of his work still shows his love for the Black church. Tyler Perry is a devout Christian. Additionally, Perry dated Ethiopian model Gelila Bekele from 2009 until 2020. Together, they share a son, Aman Tyler Perry. The media mogul is also a supporter of many charities and has been noted for his many philanthropic contributions and endeavors.

Chrisean Rock’s Baby Bump Steals The Spotlight During Turnt Up Club Performance: Watch

Earlier this weekend, Blueface proved which of his baby mamas currently has his loyalty. He’s been chiefly showing support for the first, Jaidyn Alexis, who he’s signed to his new Milf Music label. Along with an announcement of the major move (which encouraged other women who are mothers to come forward if they’re also interested in working with Blueface), he’s been promoting her “Stewie” single, which has received mostly negative reactions so far online. While all this has been going on, the 26-year-old’s second baby mama, Chrisean Rock, seems to be completely unbothered.

In the past, seeing her Cr*zy In Love co-star show love to Alexis would spend the 23-year-old into a spiral. Now, however, she’s more focused on securing the bag ahead of her first child’s arrival. First, she performed a twerk-filled dance routine during GloRilla’s festival set at the start of June. Now, she stepped out for a club appearance this weekend. From the looks of things, it had the whole venue dancing and singing along to one of her songs.

Apart from being criticized for hitting the club so close to her due date, Chrisean Rock was also caught rolling a blunt on Instagram Live earlier this month. The laughable moment happened as she was streaming with GloRilla, and though the Memphis native tried to save her friend from being caught on camera, internet sleuths caught it too quickly. Doja Cat recently hopped on Instagram to share some photos of her new back tattoo. The tattoo is of a spider hanging upside down, and it sits right beneath her tattoo of a bat skeleton. She poses topless to flex her new ink.

Last week, Doja Cat announced her upcoming “Scarlet” tour alongside Ice Spice and Doeechii. She shared the new with her fans with a simple Instagram post, reading “see you on the scarlet tour.” The tour will make 24 stops across the U.S., featuring notable dates in Brooklyn, Miami, Los Angeles, and more. The “Scarlet” tour kicks off on Halloween this year in San Francisco, CA, and will wrap up at Chicago’s United Center in December. Doja Cat also went live on Instagram a few days ago to tease another track she has coming out soon. She played a snippet of the song, titled “Balut,” for fans.

Doja Cat’s Tattoos

Doja also dropped her new track, “Attention,” earlier this month alongside a spooky accompanying music video. The release of the single has gotten fans hoping that she’ll be releasing a full project sometime in the near future. Her next album is expected to drop sometime this year, though no official release date or title has been confirmed. Previously, she told fans the LP would be called Hellmouth, then First of All. She later went back on both titles, claiming she’s finally settled on the name of her next album. All fans know of the title now is that “It’s not First of All.”

Earlier this month, Doja Cat got slammed on Twitter by Azealia Banks. Banks went on a rant on her Instagram Story, telling followers “I really be wanting to like Doja’s music but it’s all just sooo try hard.” She further trashed Doja, saying, “She’s giving me those weird fka twigs biracial girl identity crisis vibes.” Banks continued, “Her approach to trying to conceptualize an authentic rap record is giving angel haze NYC WANNABE levels of boring rippity rap/ cheesy soho whiteboy hypebeast circa ’06.” Regardless of Banks’ hot take, Doja’s fans continue to gear up for whatever she has in store next.
