Rihanna’s Super Bowl Performance Draws Over 100 Complaints To FCC

She’s weeks away from gracing the Academy Awards stage, but fans are still reeling from Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance. During her halftime show, she revealed her second pregnancy, just one year after welcoming her first child with A$AP Rocky. The doing dad was also in the audience filming his leading lady as she floated tens of feet above the air. The Super Bowl marked Rihanna’s return to the stage after a seven-year drought and was celebrated among her admirers.

Meanwhile, social media reactions were mixed. Fans applauded the singer’s feat and enjoyed revisiting her classics. However, TMZ reports the Federal Communications Commission, or the FCC, received several complaints about the display. Additionally, the outlet reportedly obtained 103 of those complaints and shared a few. One person directly correlated Sam Smith and Kim Petra’s highly controversial Grammy performance to Rihanna’s set.

The FCC Complaints Are Unhinged

“I don’t care what someone worships but children shouldn’t be exposed to pornography and as an adult I don’t wish to see it,” one person reportedly said. “Where has decency gone? How about respect for others and self?” Many critics were off-out by the “overtly sexual dancing.” Considering Rihanna barely moved, and her dancers were trying to keep from falling off platforms, things could have been more explicit.

“This year the halftime show was so indecent I had to turn off the TV because of the pornographic content,” another person stated. These sorts of complaints aren’t anything new; each year, thousands of people fire off messages to the FCC about the Super Bowl halftime show. Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and others have been the subject of similar takes after their presentations.

Just ahead of her halftime performance, Rihanna discussed how she was hyper-focused on Super Bowl. “I totally forgot that my birthday is coming up, I totally forgot about Valentine’s Day,” she admitted. “I am just like Super Bowl, Super Bowl, Super Bowl. It’s a lot of preparation, a lot of moving parts. This is the week that it really is being tested. Everyone, we’re just tightening up everything.

She also said, “Everybody is dialing in, everybody is tuning up, and a lot of moving parts. I mean, it’s literally like three to four hundred people breaking the stage down and building it back up and getting it out in eight minutes. It’s incredible.”

Lizzo Recreates Viral Ariana DeBose BAFTAs Rap: Video

In 2022, awards season was undeniably overshadowed by what’s become known as “The Slap” between Chris Rock and Will Smith. Thankfully, this year, things have been relatively calm throughout the ceremonies we’ve seen so far. While the physical violence has been at a minimum, the viral moments have still been steadily coming, from Ben Afflecks’ grim expressions at the Grammys to Ariana DeBose’s outlandish opening performance at the BAFTAs.

It’s since been clarified that the former reportedly knew he was trending on Twitter in midst of the show. Even with the internet poking fun at him, he continued to take in various legendary performances while wearing a pained expression beside his wife, Jennifer Lopez, who was obviously much happier to be in attendance. As for the latter, DeBose likely wasn’t expecting such a negative reaction to her song and dance last week.

Ariana’s Awkward BAFTAs Flop

During the BAFTAs last weekend, she sang a cover of Eurythmics’ “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves” and Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family.” While she was crooning, DeBose took creative liberty by including a rap verse name-dropping all the female nominees at the event in London. As she spit bars about them, the starlet’s faces appeared across the screen, some of them obviously unimpressed with the singer’s antics.

“Angela Bassett did the thing / Viola Davis my Woman King / Blanchett Cate you’re a genius / Jamie Lee you are all of us,” the not-so-clever rhyme goes. As criticism poured in on social media from unhappy viewers, the North Carolina native shut it out by deleting her Twitter account. As Page Six notes, however, she has been seen double-tapping memes about her flop on Instagram, and even praising them in the comments.

Going viral online certainly isn’t easy, but when Lizzo recreates one of your most embarrassing moments, it’s safe to say you’ve made it. During a concert in Amsterdam on Thursday (February 23) night, the Special songstress had her audience in stitches when she sang some of DeBose’s lines. Surrounded by backup dancers, she encouraged the crowd to “shake it off” with a shimmy before singing, “Angela Bassett did the thing, shake it off.”

A TikToker captured the hilarious moment on camera and shared it on the app to give more Lizzo lovers a laugh. “I lost my voice but worth it [because] Angela Bassett did the thing,” they wrote in the caption. Do you think Ariana DeBose’s BAFTAs performance was embarrassing? Sound off in the comments, and check back later for more pop culture news.

Lil Durk’s DJ Wants Lil Baby On King Von’s Next Album: “It’s Mandatory”

King Von’s death came just a week after he released his debut album, Welcome To O’Block. The album was a  promising body of work that provided fans with a better glimpse into Von’s world as he navigates with one foot in the streets and the other in the music industry. Although he passed away just a week after it dropped, his fans continue to carry his legacy and keep his name alive nearly two and a half years later.

However, it appears that he had an abundance of music in the stash prior to his passing. Though we got our first glimpse at the vault with What It Means To Be King, fans haven’t been entirely sure of what his estate will do with unreleased material. Fortunately, it seems as though they’re gearing up to deliver a new posthumous album in the near future. There isn’t much information surrounding the project. However, one of the most trusted voices in the OTF camp appears to be trying to secure a number of features.

DJ Bandz Calls On Lil Baby To Deliver A Verse For King Von

Lil Durk’s official DJ chimed in this week with an update of sorts surrounding the follow-up to What It Means To Be King. DJ Bandz hit up Instagram to get fans to call on Lil Baby to deliver a verse for Von’s next project. “Tag Lil Baby. Tell him we need him on the album, man. I know folks be real busy, like one of the biggest in the world, but we need him on this album,” he said. “It’s mandatory. We gotta have him on here. Tell Wham we need him on this album.

It didn’t take long for fans to remind Bandz about Baby and Lil Durk’s friendship. Instead of a public call-out, he could’ve got Durk to put in phone call for the verse. Though Von clocked in many collaborations during his short career, he surprisingly never worked alongside Lil Baby. Hopefully, we get more information on the upcoming posthumous project from King Von soon. Check out DJ Bandz’s video for Lil Baby above and sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below.

According to a report from TMZ, the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show performance featuring Roc Nation songstress Rihanna was hit with 103 Federal Communications Commission(FCC) complaints for being too sexual for football viewers.

According to the report, Super Bowl watchers littered the FCC’s email with complaints about Rihanna’s performance being “pornographic”, with the lyrics and dancing being suggestive in a sexual nature.

One person in particular compared RiRi’s set to Kim Petra and Sam Smith’s sultry performance at the 2023 Grammys, saying, “I don’t care what someone worships but children shouldn’t be exposed to pornography and as an adult I don’t wish to see it … Where has decency gone? How about respect for others and self.” Another person in Utah said, “This year the halftime show was so indecent I had to turn off the TV because of the pornographic content.”

The “Umbrella” singer was also criticized for spreading “her ass cheek at the crack. She rubbed her pants where her labia were three times.”

Rihanna’s comeback performance was a historic one as she revealed to the world she’s expecting her second child with rapper A$AP Rocky. She also reportedly earned over $350K in song royalties after the show due to a massive increase in streaming. According to a report from Apple Music, the day after the Sueor Bowl, Rihanna’s worldwide listeners on the streaming service jumped by a whopping 331%.

Styles P (of The LOX) Releases New Video For “Death Before Dishonor”

Screen Shot 2023 02 24 at 3.15.52 PM

Soon after announcing his retirement in the fourth quarter of last year, Styles P released his second to last solo album Penultimate: A Calm Wolf Is Still A Wolf on January 27, 2023. Today (2/21/2023), The LOX rapper shares the official Bo-directed music video for album single “Death Before Dishonor” (featuring bass player, producer, singer, and band leader Brady Watt).

After I did Bass & Bars with Brady Watt, we agreed that we’d be doing more sh*t together in the future”, said Styles. “This song was that. As a 48 year old emcee, I like to step outside of my comfort zone, and I did that here. [‘Death Before Dishonor’] has a different feel not typical to Styles P, but still fits in with what I do. I didn’t even know Brady could sing or produce, but when he played me this track, I just followed my emcee intuition and started working on it right then and there.

With guest appearances  from Bucky and Brady Watt, and production from Vinny IdolBlack SaunTy Feif, as well as Styles P’s son, Noah Styles, among others, Penultimate: A Calm Wolf Is Still A Wolf is P’s 15th solo project.

Lizzo Did The Thing And Recreated Ariana DeBose’s Viral BAFTAs Rap Live On Stage

Apparently, Lizzo concerts are the best show on Earth, as SZA declared. As the “Special” singer embarks on the international stretch of her Special Tour, she is finding little ways to insert pops of fun outside of her festive bops. The songwriter’s animated personality isn’t just limited to her upcoming appearance on The Simpsons, but to her ticket-holding fans as well.

Yesterday (February 23), while performing in Amsterdam, the Grammy winner took a moment in between her original songs to sing a snippet of the internet’s new favorite jingle. Lizzo is not a stranger to covering songs she likes, having recently performed Sam Smith’s song “Unholy” featuring Kim Petras for BBC Radio 1. But who would’ve thought West Side Story actress Ariana DeBose’s viral opening number at this year’s BAFTA Awards would be next on the agenda?

In the song, DeBose sang the lyrics, “Angela Bassett did the thing / Viola Davis my Woman King/ Blanchett, Cate, you’re a genius/ Jamie Lee, you are all of us,” to honor the evening’s women nominees. Well, DeBose’s pronunciation of Angela Bassett’s name, along with the subsequent choreography, became an instant viral moment. Eventually, DeBose deactivated her social media account because of the unexpected attention. However, that didn’t stop Lizzo from showing love to the number will on stage, shimming her shoulders while singing, “Angela Bassett did the thing.”

When Lizzo returns to the States for the Special 2Tour in April, who knows what other viral track she’ll include in her repertoire.

Watch the fun clip above.
