Blue Ivy To Make Acting Debut Alongside Beyonce In “Mufasa: The Lion King”: What We Know So Far

Fans just got their first glimpse at the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King prequel trailer over the weekend, subsequently revealing a few big surprises along the way. The movie musical, set to premiere in theaters in December 2024, will star Beyoncé alongside her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. The film will be Blue Ivy’s feature film debut, at only 12 years old. Although details about the upcoming Lion King prequel remain scarce, the initial trailer reveals several exciting developments, allowing us to focus on a few key details. Let’s take a look at the trailer and behind-the-scenes info at our disposal, and examine what we can expect from the Mufasa: The Lion King prequel film.

The Film Will Include All-New Original Songs

Mufasa: The Lion King is a prequel to 2019’s The Lion King, starring Beyoncé and Donald Glover. The 2019 film is itself a remake of the 1994 animated classic of the same name. While 2019’s The Lion King had a few original songs in it, the film mostly relied on updated renditions of the original music from the cartoon. They released an album on streaming platforms to accompany the film, featuring both original material and existing Lion King music. The project was titled The Lion King: The Gift with performances from Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, and others.

Now, Mufasa: The Lion King will consist of wholly original music, as the prequel serves as a brand new outing for the franchise. Moreover, Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda will be composing and writing the original songs, as part of an ongoing deal with Disney. For now, we’re not sure if Blue Ivy will be singing any songs herself for the film, or if she’ll just be voice acting and leaving the songs to another performer. Of course, it seems likely based on her front-and-center inclusion in the cast, and her superstar musician parents, that Blue Ivy will be displaying her singing voice in the film for the world to hear.

Beyoncé And Blue Ivy Will Play A Mother & Daughter

It should come as no surprise that Blue Ivy will be playing the daughter of Beyoncé’s character in the Mufasa: The Lion King prequel. In the film, Beyoncé is slated to reprise her role as Nala from 2019’s The Lion King, alongside Donald Glover’s King Simba. According to a report in People, Blue Ivy will be playing the couple’s young daughter, Kiara. Kiara first appeared in the 1998 animated Lion King Sequel The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride. Despite being a sequel to one of the most revered and well-known Disney films of the last several decades, Simba’s Pride has remained relatively unnoticed since it debuted direct to video in the 90s. This means that, for most fans, Blue Ivy’s rendition of Kiara will be their first exposure to the character.

Several other performers are on pace to reprise their roles from the 2019 film as well, including Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani. Other newcomers to the cast include Mads Mikkelsen, Keith David, and The Walking Dead‘s Lennie James. Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will lead the cast, as young Mufasa and young Scar respectively. Pierre and Harrison previously worked together on the National Geographic limited series Genius, with Pierre portraying Malcolm X against Harrison’s Martin Luther King Jr.

The Film Premieres On December 20, 2024

Oscar Award-winning director Barry Jenkins is set to helm the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King prequel, from a screenplay written by Catch Me If You Can scribe Jeff Nathanson. With all this talent behind the film, fans are already expecting an instant classic. Mufasa: The Lion King premiered on December 20, 2024, just in time for families to catch the movie for Christmas.

According to Jenkins, it was a real treat to see Beyoncé and Blue Ivy recording lines together. The filmmaker remarked that seeing the Grammy Award-winner “both on the screen and behind the screen, get to be a mother — and how that affected and impacted for the better the work that we were all doing — was just really awesome.” With any luck, Blue Ivy’s big performance will pave the way for a long and lucrative media career.

Chris Brown Beefs: A Look At His Most Tense Moments

Chris Brown is no stranger to making headlines but it’s not always for his music. His career has been marked by a couple of controversies along the way. Chris Brown has notably had beef with several fellow notable figures, and most have been his peers in the industry. From public feuds to heated exchanges, his time in the spotlight has been filled with several intense moments. Recently, Chris Brown and Quavo have taken jabs at each other via diss tracks, but that’s just one out of several instances of beef the R&B star has been in. Let’s dive into some of the most notable instances where Chris Brown found himself at odds with others in the industry.

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean and Chris Brown’s beef seems to stem from a “compliment” Brown had given Ocean in 2012. Brown had likened Ocean to a “young James Fauntleroy or Kevin Cossum.” However, the singer did not appreciate the comment, and in response, likened Brown to a “young Sisqo or Ike Turner.” The spat came to a head a year later when Chris Brown and the singer reportedly got into a physical altercation outside a recording studio in Los Angeles.

This incident reportedly began over a parking space dispute but also fueled ongoing tensions between the two artists. According to TMZ, Brown had tried to exit a studio in West Hollywood, but Ocean and his entourage reportedly blocked his way. The entire scuffle resulted in Brown throwing a punch at Ocean, and some verbal exchanges were thrown around. Soon after the incident, Ocean took to Twitter to air his grievances. He wrote: “Got jumped by Chris and a couple guys. Cut my finger now I can’t play w two hands at the Grammys.”

Meek Mill

Chris Brown and Meek Mill found themselves in a beef after Brown decided to remove Meek from his album Fortune. The rumor mill was abuzz, and speculations arose that Brown’s decision was due to Meek’s alleged relationship with Rihanna. After being kicked off the album, Meek took to Twitter to express his thoughts, stating: “Dese chicks belong 2 da game… not u! Never get confused and that’s all u!”

In response, Brown swiftly replied with a tweet of his own. “She’s a dream chaser! There are plenty of dreamers, so she’ll be running forever!” Later on, reports surfaced that the two artists had gotten physical at a nightclub in New York City, resulting in Brown ending up with a bloody chin. After the debacle however, both artists came on Twitter to say that they had resolved their differences. Brown tweeted: “Me and @MeekMill ain’t on that nonsense. Real recognizes real….” Meek echoed the sentiment, affirming the mutual respect: “Nah, we just getting money!”

Quavo

Chris Brown and Quavo’s friendly past now long forgotten. Both of them have recently been embroiled in the Hip Hop war. The feud between the two began in 2017 when the Migos rapper began dating Brown’s ex, Karrueche Tran. Their beef saw an almost physical altercation at the 2017 BET Awards after-party.

Years later, fans and spectators alike thought that the matter had died down, as both artists sitting side-by-side at the Rhude Menswear Fall/Winter 2024-2025 show. However, Brown made it clear on Twitter that the beef was, in fact, not dead. Brown recently made a subtle jab at Quavo in his latest album 11:11 before going all out with a diss track titled “Weakest Link.”

On the track, he asserted that he had a romantic involvement with Saweetie while she was still with Quavo. He also called Quavo the “weakest link” in Migos, as well as other insults. In response, the former Migos member retaliated with his own diss track titled “Over Hoes and Bitches.” However, Brown remained unmoved and chose not to engage further.

Raz B

In December 2010, the former B2K singer Raz-B posted a contemplative tweet. He wrote: “I’m just sitting here thinking how can n***as like Eric Bennet and Chris Brown disrespect women as intelligent as Halle Berry and Rihanna.” The tweet immediately triggered a homophobic response from Chris Brown. He also ridiculed Raz-B’s allegations of being molested by a fellow member of the boy band.

Brown tweeted: “@RazB2K n***a you want attention! Grow up n***a!!! D*ck in the booty a*s little boy. Tell me this @RazB2K!! Why when the money was coming in you weren’t complaining about getting butt-plugged! #h**othug!!! I ain’t deleting my tweet either!! I was minding my damn business and Peter Pan decides to pop off!!! #whatalame.” The online spat escalated, with singer Omarion and Raz-B’s brother getting involved. Thankfully, the beef died on the internet, and things never got physical. Brown later apologized to his LGBTQ+ fans, stating that Raz-B was just being disrespectful.

Drake

In 2012, tensions between Chris Brown and Drake became heated and resulted in an alleged scuffle at a nightclub in New York City. The clash reportedly stemmed from their mutual involvement with Rihanna. Bottles were thrown, and Brown left with a minor injury. The beef was temporarily squashed until 2015 when Brown bashed Drake on Hot 97. He said: “We’re not getting no check from talking about dude. We’re giving him all this pub. We’re us. I can’t keep making these motherfuckers famous. I’m responsible for reviving a lot of careers.”

Drake subsequently responded during his live performance of “Energy” in New Zealand. He changed some of the lyrics of the song, from “I got rap n***as that I gotta act like I like” to “I got R&B n***as that I gotta act like I like.” Seven years after they started their beef, the two artists buried the hatchet and collaborated on the song “No Guidance.” Drake later spoke to Rap Radar about the entire debacle. He said: “You know, really at the end of the day when you kind of step away from it and break it down you start to feel silly ’cause it’s over girl stuff, you know? But obviously, that can snowball into real shit and that’s what happened in this situation.”

Tyson Beckford

In 2015, Tyson Beckford and Chris Brown got into it over Bown’s ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran. After Beckford posted a photo of himself and Karrueche, Brown went on an online rant. He also sent threatening remarks to Beckford. In a now-deleted tweet, he said: “Keep playing I’ma f*ck ya baby momma and then whoop you child like he mine. U wanna keep walking them runways. I need ta legs for that. Keep playing like a ain’t wit the bullshit.”

In response, Beckford posted videos and tweets stating that he wasn’t afraid of Brown. He tweeted: “@chrisbrownofficial it’s all about fun in vegas. Come thru papa.” The two went back-and-forth over the weekend, with Brown later waving a white flag. He also acknowledged on Twitter that he was at fault and was being emotional.

The confrontation between Chris brown and Offset allegedly arose in 2019. This came after Offset criticized Brown for posting a meme about his friend, 21 Savage. Offset had commented on the meme post: “Memes ain’t funny lame.” Brown responded by labeling Offset as “sensitive,” and telling the rapper to focus on himself. He then went to hurl ageist insults at Offset, alleging that the rapper used drugs. He wrote: “If he don’t get his EARTH WIND AND FIRE pootytang space suits WEARING CAP A** LIL BOY da f**k out my comments and off my d**k.” Offset subsequently responded by bringing up Brown’s purported struggles with substance abuse.

J Cole Praised For Bowing Out Of Kendrick Lamar Feud After Fans Hear Blistering Drake Diss, “Euphoria”

J Cole is being praised on social media for bowing out of his feud with Kendrick Lamar in time to avoid catching a diss track from the rapper. The comments come after Lamar targeted Drake on his scathing new song, “Euphoria,” which hit streaming services on Tuesday. On the track, Lamar brings up Drake’s race, accuses him of being a bad father, reflects on his feud with Pusha T, and more.

“I’m glad J. Cole tapped out these two dudes absolutely HATE each other lmao,” one user on Twitter wrote. Another added: “With Kendrick dropping his diss track, the more i realize that i owe J Cole an apology. he was right to ride his bike up outta there because Kendrick Lamar and Drake HATE each other.” One more fan wrote: “J Cole somewhere on that bike with the wind against his face feeling grateful. Bless.”

Lamar originally dissed both Drake and J Cole with his verse on Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That.” The track prompted a response from Cole, who fired back at Lamar on “7 Minute Drill.” Just days later, Cole admitted he regretted doing so and apologized. “That sh*t disrupts my f*cking peace,” he admitted at Dreamville Festival. “So what I want to say right here tonight is in the midst of me doing that, trying to find a little angle and downplay this n***a’s f*cking catalog and his greatness, I want to say right now tonight, how many people think Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest motherf*ckers to ever touch a f*cking microphone? Dreamville, y’all love Kendrick Lamar, correct? As do I.”

Was Kendrick Lamar Supposed To Be On Drake And J. Cole’s ‘First Person Shooter?’

The people have been waiting. A couple weeks ago, Drake decided to diss Kendrick Lamar with “First Person Shooter,” and onlookers have been anticipating how Lamar would fire back. Finally, Lamar did today (April 30) with “Euphoria,” in which he goes all out on Drake for six minutes.

There’s so much about this song to dissect, but there’s one lyric fans have been looking at that prompts the following question:

Was Kendrick Lamar Supposed To Be On Drake And J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter?”

“Euphoria” certainly has some believing that’s the case. On the track, Lamar raps:

“I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk
I hate the way that you dress
Surprised you wanted that feature request
You know that we got some sh*t to address.”

This comes after earlier this month, Joe Budden indicated that he heard Lamar was originally supposed to be on the song.

Meanwhile, the song is full of other barbs, including, “You not a rap artist, you a scam artist with the hopes of bеing accepted / Tommy Hilfiger stood out, but FUBU nеver had been your collection,” and, “My first one like my last one: it’s a classic, you don’t have one / Let your core audience stomach that; didn’t tell ’em where you get your abs from.” Uproxx’s Aaron Williams breaks down some of the best ones here.

Kendrick Lamar’s Drake Diss Mixed Up Televangelist Joel Osteen With The Actor From ‘Sixth Sense’ And Now Everybody Is Making ‘Abbott Elementary’ Jokes

Kendrick Lamar’s new song “Euphoria” has rap fans on social media buzzing, but not just for its inventive Drake disses. While the song’s references to Drake’s foibles and flaws have fans dissecting their favorite lines, one in particular has them scratching their heads instead.

Although pop culture references have never been Kendrick’s strong suit, he name-checks the child actor from the films The Sixth Sense and AI: Artificial Intelligence to undercut Drake’s use of AI to utilize deceased rapper Tupac’s voice in his “Taylor Made Freestyle.” At least, he thinks he does — because the name Kendrick actually checked is Joel Osteen, the controversial televangelist whose Texas megachurch drew negative headlines for how it handled its Hurricane Harvey response in 2017. The name he apparently meant to say is Haley Joel Osment, who achieved cultural ubiquity for his reading of the iconic line “I see dead people” in the 1999 thriller The Sixth Sense.

As fans remark on the hilarious mix-up, one joke that keeps recurring is the similarity to Abbott Elementary character Barbara Howard. One of the show’s teachers played by Sheryl Lee Ralph, Mrs. Howard is the center of a running gag in which she regularly confuses white celebrities’ names, but everyone else can usually figure out who she really means. Examples include Brian Austin Green (Bryan Tyree Henry), Carrie Underwood (Keri Washington), and Tommy Lee Jones (James Earl Jones). Check out some more responses below:

Gillie Da Kid Labels Kendrick Lamar’s “Euphoria” Corny,” Says Drake & Chris Brown Are Up

Gillie Da Kid isn’t a fan of Kendrick Lamar’s new diss track, “Euphoria,” on which he takes aim at Drake amid their ongoing feud. The Million Dollaz Worth Of Game host voiced his first impression of the song in a video posted to social media on Tuesday. While filming himself in his car, Gillie explains that he thinks the track is corny and that Drake is up 2-0 in the beef.

“I f*ck with Kendrick but that sh*t was corn on the cob man,” Gillie said. “You know what’s crazy man? The light-skinned n****s is winning three to nothing. Drake up two to nothing. Chris Brown up one to nothing. Just take me back. I remember in the late eighties light skin n****s ran everything up to the late eighties. Then Nino Brown pistol-whipped every light-skinned n***a in New Jack City. Then they had it bad all the way up to Steph Curry and Chris Brown and Klay Thompson and Drake. Now the light-skinned n****s doing what they want.”

On the track, Lamar goes off on the Toronto rapper, accusing him of being a “scam artist,” implying he’s a bad father, and much more. At one point, he brings up Drake’s previous feud with Pusha T. He raps: “I don’t like you poppin’ sh*t, that sh*t for real, I inherit the beef / Yeah, f*ck all that pushin’ P, let me see you push-a-T / You better off spinnin’ again on him, you think about pushin’ me?” At another point, he brings Drake’s race into the conversation. “How many more fairytale stories about your life ’til we’ve had enough?” Lamar raps. “How many more Black features ’til you finally feel that you’re Black enough?”
