Kendrick Lamar has been at the heart of the biggest story in rap music for weeks now. While his beef with Drake dates all the way back to the release of Future & Metro Boomin’s album WE DON’T TRUST YOU back in March. Spotify Is Facing A Cease-And-Desist Over Its Use Of Lyrics And More

In early March, The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) acknowledged the expiration of its license with TikTok in late April by sending a letter to its members. “At this time, we do not anticipate that there will be an option to renew or extend the current NMPA licenses or participate in a new license with TikTok through NMPA,” it said, in part, as relayed by Billboard.

On Wednesday, May 15, the NMPA shifted its attention toward Spotify. According to Variety, the NMPA issued a cease-and-desist to Spotify due to Spotify’s “use of lyrics in its recently launched video function and podcasts, and its remix feature that enables users to speed up or otherwise edit songs to create derivative works. The trade association claims that such uses are copyright violations and must be paid for.”

Variety additionally notes that the NMPA and Spotify “are also at odds over Spotify’s new premium subscription plans that combine music and audiobooks, which will mean a lower mechanical royalty rate for songwriters on those plans, although Spotify claims that earnings for creators will continue to rise due to increased volume.”

The NMPA is demanding Spotify remove unlicensed lyrics, videos, podcasts, or remix features to avoid copyright liability.

A Spotify representative issued a statement, as relayed by Variety, in which the rep calls the NMPA’s actions “a press stunt filled with false and misleading claims.”

Lauryn Hill Claims Her Anticipated Second Album Is Coming “Soon”

Lauryn Hill dropped a classic and then dipped out. The dazzlingly talented singer and rapper won five Grammy Awards for her 1998 debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, effectively turning her into a solo superstar. The anticipation for what she would do next was feverish, and yet, “next” never came. Hill has spent the 21st century touring and making the occasional guest appearance on other albums. The follow up to Miseducation became a mythic concept on par with Dr. Dre’s Detox. According to Hill, however, the wait is almost over.

The singer has been making waves as of late. She commemorated the 25th anniversary of Miseducation with a string of sold out concerts, and she recently performed a medley alongside her son YG Marley on The Tonight Show. Hill and Marley were approached by TMZ after the taping of The Tonight Show, and asked about the possibility of the former dropping a second album. Marley took a long pause before he responded, but when he did, he smiled. “Music is on the way,” he revealed. “For real this time.” He then teased the possibility of appearing on the album alongside his mother.

Lauryn Hill Hasn’t Released New Music Since 2002

The real bombshell came when TMZ approached Lauryn Hill. The outlet asked the icon whether she has any plans to release a sophomore effort, and she nodded her head. When asked when, Hill simply smiled and said “soon.” This isn’t the first time Hill has been asked about a second album, but it is the first time she’s been so definitive about it coming out. Assuring fans that new music is coming “soon” is a far cry from the bitter stance that Hill took during a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone. She claimed the success of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill made it difficult for her to make an authentic follow-up.

Hill claimed that she was never actually asked whether she wanted to make another album. “No one from my label ever called me and asked how can we help you make another album ever,” she recalled. “People had included me in their own narratives of their successes, I was considered an enemy.” Hill did put out a live album in 2002, MTV Unplugged No. 2.0. It was derided by fans and critics, yet has come to be seen as a cult classic. It’s possible that Hill could delay the release of her official sophomore album again, but this assurance has been the most exciting development for fans in well over a decade.

“His merch is in the millions. He’s an icon,” he described. “You can ask anyone — the people that ran the tour from Live Nation — they’ll tell you, ‘Your favorite rapper can’t do what 50 just did.’” According to Yayo, it was no easy task, as it took a lot to make the shows happen. “Everybody’s coming there, of course, to work for 50, ’cause 50 cuts the budget. But when you think of everything that’s behind it, from production, road management, catering, dancers, f*ckin’ stewardess on the jet, pilots — everybody’s like one big team,” he explained. “And 50 pays for everything.” What do you think of 50 Cent’s impressive tour stats? N**ga, my name ain’t in no paperwork, bro,” he assured fans. “Suck my … did you suck one? Part of the reason fans thought Quan was involved was because footage leaked of the rapper talking about Thug’s YSL organization. Megan Thee Stallion Pays Tribute To Beyonce’s “Mute” Challenge On New Tour

Last year, mega tours completely took over the news cycle. That’s because two of the biggest artists in the world, Taylor Swift and Beyonce, set off on absolutely massive tours. They were far from the only ones touring, but the Eras and Renaissance tours seemingly stole the show. That included fans obsessing over the outfits, tracklists, and set design of both performers. One of the most viral things to spawn from the tours was Beyonce’s mute challenge which saw entire arenas of fans trying to go silent at the same time.

Now Megan Thee Stallion is taking off on her new stadium tour and it could end up being one of the biggest tours of this year. During one of the first shows she paid tribute to her fellow Houston superstar Beyonce by shouting out her mute challenge. Megan’s new tour has been pretty divisive since it was announced as fans debated whether or not she was the caliber of artist to go on an arena tour. She seemingly shut all the dissenters up by selling out numerous shows from her tour, even some months in advance of their actual dates. Check out her interpolation of the mute challenge below.

She just dropped her new single “BOA” the third snake-themed single from her new album. It follows “COBRA” last yead and “HISS” earlier this year, both of which took aim at some of Meg’s adversities.

Draymond Green Challenges Tyrese Haliburton After Terrible Game 5

In order to survive, the Indiana Pacers must-win Game 6 at home. If they don’t, their summer will start unfortunately early for them, and the New York Knicks will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Pacers lost big time last night and were outmatched by a New York Knicks team with several injuries. Jalen Brunson had another stellar game, scoring over 40 for what seems like the 100th time this postseason. The Pacers as a team choked under the pressure. Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton especially struggled, and Draymond Green had some words for him post-game.

Tyrese Haliburton was incredibly inactive for the second time in three games in New York, managing just 13 points on nine shots. He needed to find out how to get his game to travel if the Pacers were to have a chance of winning this series because it was a huge difference to the intensity and ferocity he showed at home in Indiana. His performance gives credence to the “front runner” criticism the Pacers have received. Everything is good when they are up, but they shrink when they are behind. Draymond Green issued a challenge for Tyrese to step up in game 6 and be a leader.

Draymond Says Tyrese Haliburton Must Step Up

While Haliburton is battling a number of injuries, most postseason players, including Knicks star Jalen Brunson, In Games 3 and 4 in Indiana, we witnessed Haliburton discover that additional gear a star needs to display in the playoffs. That gear has largely been out of the equation in New York. Draymond Green and Vince Carter, standing in for Shaq and Charles on Inside the NBA, talked about the messages they would like to send to Haliburton. Draymonds’s message was clear. In a long statement, Draymond said, “You have to come out and compete at a level that says I want to move on.”

Draymond continued his message to Tyrese, saying, “We’re asking you to come out and give an honest effort and compete. When you slap and you stop on the defensive end and give up, you’re letting the other guys down. “ Draymond is adamant that Haliburton has to compete on both ends of the floor to show his teammates he wants to survive and advance. Green Continued, “So he has to come out and compete on both ends of the floor like his life depended on it. Not be lockdown, just show some effort so then the help can get there and help you.” Overall, Draymond’s advice is 100% correct. Haliburton looked like he didn’t want it last night. He has to have that desire if the Indiana Pacers want to move on.
