YSL Trial Postponed After Lawyer’s Laptop Seized By Police

The massive RICO indictment which swept up much of the YSL gang including rappers Young Thug and Gunna has a new development. According to Hip Hop DX, the hearing has been delayed until at least July 12th. The delay comes as a result of defense attorney Eric Johnson’s own ongoing hearings. Johnson is representing Christian Eppinger in both the RICO case and a number of other ongoing legal matters. Last month, law enforcement seized a laptop belonging o Johnson after he was accused of using it to let Eppinger contact other YSL members who weren’t in custody.

Johnson’s original hearing related to the laptop was supposed to happen soon. But after the lawyer was in a traffic accident a few weeks ago he’s been ruled unfit to appear in court since. His hearing has been rescheduled tentatively for July 12th, after which the YSL case can presumably continue. It’s yet another delay in the trial which has remained in the public eye since over a year ago. May 9th of 2022 was when the news first went public that Young Thug and Gunna had been arrested alongside 26 other YSL affiliates.

YSL Trial Gets Delayed Again

Most of the discussion about the YSL RICO case in recent months has revolved around Gunna. Earlier this year Gunna took a plea deal that resulted in his release. As a part of the deal however, Gunna has to testify against other YSL members in a way that many identified as snitching. This causes a string of rappers to make public statements distancing themselves from Gunna and his alleged actions. The most recent of which was Lil Durk who didn’t mince words in an interview with DJ Akademics. Of the allegations Gunna is facing Durk replied, “that man told.”

YSL Trial aside, Gunna just dropped a new album that certainly got fans’ attention. a Gift & a Curse is a featureless 15-track album that takes a much more reserved approach than Gunna normally brings. What do you think of the newest developments in the YSL trial? Let us know in the comment section below.

Gunna “Told,” Says Taxstone In His Take On Snitching Allegations

The conversation surrounding Gunna’s plea deal in the YSL RICO case needs no explanation or summary. That being said, the debate certainly caught new wind online thanks to his most recent album a Gift & a Curse, which addresses many of these accusations on wax. Of course, it’s not in a particularly detailed or name-dropping way, but the College Park MC goes deep into his emotions surrounding this situation and how he feels switched up on. However, Taxstone is the latest figure in the hip-hop world to suggest that he deserves every bit of criticism. Moreover, the podcaster let out a series of tweets offering his view on the subject.

“Offering unknown information in a criminal investigation that can help the governments case is snitching,” Taxstone wrote on Saturday (June 17). “What’s so hard about understanding that. This is not a complex thing there no dry snitching or wet snitching. If you tell the cops something that can help there case get closed you Told. So yes Gunna Told the moment he admitted that YSL was a gang when it’s a record label. Why would you agree with the government that YSL was a gang ? That’s what they’re trying to prove. The sad s**t about gunna plea is he probably really didn’t even know what he was doing probably was just trying to spin out the spot,” he added on Sunday (June 18).

Regardless of the extremes that both sides go to in order to prove a point, video of Gunna testifying in court did make it much more ambiguous for many. Despite all the backlash, Gunna maintains that he did not cooperate and that people misrepresented his actions. Interestingly enough, Taxstone himself is currently in prison related to charges of shooting Troy Ave’s bodyguard. After a lot of legal and social media bakc-and-forths, Ave celebrated victory in the case while mourning his lost friend.

“To all my real ones that been riding with & for Me, today is the day I finally get to clear my name,” he wrote on Instagram. “It’s been almost 7 years since I lost one of my closest friends #RIPBANGA. 7 years of a narrative about it being my fault, 7 years of my character being assassinated all the while Trying to defend myself without saying much! At my weakest points I drew strength from GOD! drew strength from my Children & drew strength from Yall.” For more on Taxstone and Gunna, stay posted on HNHH.

Gunna’s New Album, “A Gift & A Curse,” Dominates Apple Music Charts

Gunna’s newest album, A Gift & A Curse, is dominating the Apple Music charts following its recent release. As noted by Our Generation Music, Gunna currently holds the No. 1 spot on the streaming service for both album & song charts. The project is Gunna’s first since his release from jail last December.

On the album chart, A Gift & A Curse is beating out Metro Boomin’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack as well as Lil Durk’s Almost Healed and Moneybagg Yo’s Hard to Love. Gunna’s song, “back to the moon” ranks as the most popular song on Apple Music with seven of the top 10 spots being held by tracks off of A Gift & A Curse. Other songs of his include “back at it,” fukumean,” and “idk nomore,” among others.

Gunna addresses allegations that he snitched on his YSL associates on his song, “bread & butter.” “Never gave no statement or agreed to take no stand on’ em /Whatever you n—as on, then trust me, I’mma stand on it/ Lawyers and that DA did some sneaky s–t, I fell for it/ On my P’s and Q’s because this time I be prepared for it,” he raps.

Gunna previously shot down having cooperated with authorities in a statement after his release. “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” he said at the time.

Gunna Announces “A Gift & A Curse”

Gunna’s new album comes ahead of the release of new music from his former YSL partner, Young Thug. Thug will be dropping an effort with Metro Boomin, later this week. It appears to be titled, “Business is Business.”

Gunna Floats On “a Gift & a Curse” Highlight “fukumean”

a Gift & a Curse has plenty of highlights, and it’s a tracklist that people will most likely be dissecting for the next few weeks. Moreover, a lot of this is owed to the reflections on betrayal, Gunna’s place in the game, and people speaking down on him laced throughout on tracks like, for example, “turned your back.” However, that’s not to say that the YSL affiliate doesn’t bring the bangers to the table, as well. One particular standout that people latched onto (if streaming numbers indicate anything) is “fukumean.” It’s a classic Wunna-style cut that sees the artist fall into a focused and fiery pocket.

As far as the College Park MC’s performance, his flow on here plays to his strengths, and it’s one he’s proven to rock with each song. Furthermore, his easy switch-ups between measured lines and faster rhymes make each stanza more enjoyable to experience. Lyrically, his focus is more hedonistic this time around: the fame, the money, the girls, and his unrivaled status in the streets and in the game. To be fair, if Gunna didn’t go deeper on these themes on other tracks, some lines here might seem tone-deaf considering the conversation around his snitching allegations. But regardless, he gives listeners a reason to perk their ears up with catchy vocalizations and a killer beat.

Gunna Asks “fukumean” On a Gift & a Curse

On that note, the production takes advantage of a quintessential Gunna combo: flute melodies with some lightly plucked strings and piano with some added group ad-libs that give the song its title. Ultimately, the deep bass hits, shifting hi-hat patterns, and sharp snare turn this peaceful sonic pallet into a heater. It’s a good thing that, despite all the focus on the 30-year-old’s more meaningful content, he reached a balance between the personal and the effortlessly listenable on this album. You can find a Gift & a Curse on your preferred streaming service and peep some notable lines down below. Also, check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Gunna.

Quotable Lyrics
I let her run through a million, I rock with her really, let’s fuck on a billion
I’ma get down to the gritty, then fuck up the city, the home of the villains
Ecstasy, wonderful feelin’
Smoke out the pound when I’m chillin’
Trappin’, I made me a killin’
Look, I got everybody wishin’

Gunna Feels Betrayed But Resilient On “turned your back”

Gunna’s latest album a Gift & a Curse is easily one of the most anticipated and immediately talked-about rap projects of the year so far in the mainstream. Not only is the College Park MC beloved for his musical output over the years, but his plea deal in the YSL RICO case after months in jail caused a large debate around his status and whether he could be labeled a “snitch.” It’s something that will unfortunately follow him around in his career for the foreseeable future. However, with this new set of tracks, he takes a big step towards reclaiming an elevated status in the game. Some of that had to do with his response to that conversation, but much of it comes thanks to the effective songwriting, layered production, and compelling narratives on tracks like “turned your back.”

First, the instrumental here is among the most dynamic and detailed that the 30-year-old has tapped in quite some time. The track opens with a muffled and brooding set of percussion that’s eventually replaced by cleaner drums led by a sharp snare and subtle hi-hats. In terms the melodies and harmonic elements of “turned your backs,” Gunna employs a lot of techniques to convey the atmosphere. Whether it’s mournful guitars, harmonized and ethereal background vocals, plucked strings, soft piano, or haunting synth pads, there’s a lot to chew on here. For those critical of his typical sound, this may be a welcome display of sonic depth.

Gunna Stuns On “turned your back”

Then there’s the “Banking On Me” rhymer’s performance, which is similarly versatile. A harmonized chorus lands on a somber melody, complemented by more tuneful flows throughout his verses. Still, he speaks on topics of betrayal, disloyalty, and disappointment with a resigned focus and almost tender vocal approach. It’s not unlike anything he’s done before, and will be right in many’s comfort zone. Still, this joins the ranks of “back to the moon” as a serious highlight on a Gift & a Curse, albeit for very different reasons. Check the album out on your preferred streaming service and peep some notable bars down below. Let us know what you think of the project down in the comments below. Gunna Reposts Young Thug’s Countdown On Instagram

When Gunna took a plea deal in the YSL RICO case, it caused a lot of debate among not just fans, but some affiliates. However, maybe all of that discussion will be made moot considering both parties’ recent social media moves. Moreover, the College Park rapper just reposted Young Thug’s mysterious countdown on Instagram, which was shared by fellow top industry MCs and producers. Whatever Thugger has cooking up or is making fans anticipate, it seems like his partner (or whatever you can call them, at this point) is here for it. Furthermore, this slightly changed perception of the Drip Season artist’s case online, bolstered by another big move.

a Gift & a Curse, Gunna’s latest album, got its fair share of acclaim, surprised reactions, and conversation upon release. In it, the 30-year-old basically shuts down everyone who wrote him off when they heard of his removal from the legal case. Many bars allude to misread situations, fake loyalty from others in the game, and a lot of personal reflection and reevaluation. For example, on “rodeo dr,” he raps, “I know some n***as locked up in the dungeon that say they feel me like fabric / I know you heard I been pullin’ up pressin’ these n***as who claimin’ I ratted.”

Gunna Shares Young Thug’s Latest Tease

Not only that, but Young Stoner Life’s official Instagram account promoted this new release, as well. Of course, it’s hard to say exactly where this decision in particular came from. Still, it’s a solid indicator that the bond between them is at least much stronger than many online believe, or use as an excuse to rally against Gunna’s music. In addition, this is not the first time that either Young Thug and his protégé used social media as a potential means of public reconciliation.

Meanwhile, Tony Yayo spoke out on why he thinks Jeffrey will beat his case, and is the latest rap figure to throw their take in. “Thug coming home, man,” he expressed. “The case… it sounds like a clusterf**k, man. Free Young Thug, man. And you know, it’s like, when you look at the s**t, it’s like, he’s a high-profile guy. So, it’s a clusterf**k. You know? Even moving them around, it’s like, he’s high-profile. This is everyday s**t, though… It’ll just make the news because you’ll hear ‘YSL.’” For the latest updates on Young Thug and Gunna, come back to HNHH.

Tony Yayo Explains Why He Thinks Young Thug Will Be Acquitted

The YSL RICO case in Atlanta has been a mess. The sprawling trial originally started with 28 defendants. However, plea deals, severings, and dismissals have reduced the number of men still on trial to 9. Among those is Young Thug, who is widely seen by the prosecutors as one of the ringleaders and anchors of the case. Young Thug has had his own fair share of drama. A few weeks ago, he was admitted to the hospital twice during preliminary hearings for the trial. Despite jury selection beginning in January, no jurors have been formally selected yet.

Additionally, the case has been full of twists. Most recently, a Fulton County deputy was arrested after being linked to a smuggling ring run by YSL defendant Christian Eppinger. Eppinger and the deputy were reportedly in a relationship and had been illegally communicating via Instagram. However, the chaotic nature of the trial is exactly why one rap legend thinks that Young Thug isn’t going to prison.

Tony Yayo Explains Thinking In Young Thug Verdict

Appearing on VladTV, Tony Yayo explained why he believes Young Thug isn’t going to jail. “Thug coming home, man,” Yayo said. “The case … it sounds like a clusterfuck, man. Free Young Thug, man. And you know, it’s like, when you look at the shit, it’s like, he’s a high-profile guy. So, it’s a clusterfuck. You know? Even moving them around, it’s like, he’s high-profile. This is everyday shit, though … It’ll just make the news because you’ll hear ‘YSL.’”

It’s not the first time Yayo has commented on the YSL case. Earlier in 2023, he shared his thoughts about Gunna’s plea deal. “It’s hard to call somebody a snitch without the paperwork,” Yayo said. “But I think when that video came out — because remember Gunna got out and I love Gunna music, I love Thugga music. Gunna got out, you know, got the bad chick with him jumped into $200,000 Maybach everything was all Gucci you know what I’m saying. But two minutes later, what was that? Probably like an hour later, yeah the film in court came out.” Do you agree with Yayo? Let us know in the comments.

Hoodrich Pablo Juan Sends A Message To Young Thug From Prison

Atlantra’s rap community has been under scrutiny over the last year. Beginning with the sweeping YSL indictment that’s left Young Thug behind bars for over a year, the Fulton County D.A. stated that there would be a number of other arrests coming soon. However, before Young Thug got hit with the RICO, Hoodrich Pablo Juan found himself in legal issues. In December, the former 1017 rapper copped a plea deal, leading to a 15-year sentence in his RICO case – 5 years behind bars, including time served, and 10 years on probation.

As someone who’s dealing with a similar situation to Thug, he expressed his support for the incarcerated PUNK rapper. “We do this sh*t for the hood, we from the hood, we still in the hood. Y’all know what the f**k going on,” he began. “Free Slime, man. Keep all the rats, free all the real n***as. Y’all know what the f*** goin’ man, we never lettin’ up.” Although a short message, it comes on the heels of Gunna’s new single, “bread & butter,” which led to widespread backlash, even as he tried to tell his side of the story.

Hoodrich Pablo Juan & Young Thug Charges

Although police arrested Young Thug on RICO charges last year, Hoodrich Pablo Juan was part of a huge indictment that took place in October 2020. Police arrested Hoodrich Pablo Juan in Upson County, GA for violating the RICO Act as a member of the Rollin 20 Neighborhood Bloods. Police arrested 46 individuals, including Juan, on charges including violating the RICO Act and  Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Preventions act, as well as drug trafficking, kidnapping, murder and aggravated assault.

Meanwhile, Young Thug remains behind bars as jury selection continues and many of his co-defendants cop plea deals. Most recently, Thug’s older brother Unfoonk returned to jail after violating the terms of his agreement. Police caught him with a gun and the judge recently sentenced him to 9 years behind bars. Besides that, Thug continues to try and make bail, especially after two consecutive visits to the hospital due to health issues, which his lawyer argues is because of poor food options.

BandMan Kevo Shades Gunna With Rat Diss In Collab Promo

Allegations of snitching have followed Gunna for several years. The allegations first arose in 2019, when Tec claimed that Gunna snitched on Young Thug. Of course, Young Thug is now at the center of a RICO trial in Georgia. A number of other artists have since come forward to agree that Gunna did indeed snitch.

Now Gunna appears to be readying a comeback. He was recently spotted at an NBA playoffs game. Furthermore, he has been teasing some new music on social media. However, while Gunna still has a loyal fanbase, not everyone is pumped to see Gunna making a comeback. While legal experts have stated that Gunna’s plea deal didn’t incriminate any of the other defendants in the YSL RICO trial, many people see it simply as “a snitch is a snitch”. Furthermore, many have questioned exactly what Gunna said which meant he avoided jail time.

One of the artists that Gunna is reportedly about to drop music with is Bandman Kevo, last seen on HotNewHipHop getting fined in Jamaica for dangerous driving. However, fans are debating just how good the relationship is between the two artists given a recent post from Kevo. On Instagram, Kevo posted a picture from his upcoming video with Gunna. However, Kevo added a rat emoji over Gunna’s face. This is a clear reference to Gunna’s snitching allegations.

Whether it’s shade or a joke remains to me seen. However, fans are confused if not only opened opposed to the diss. “You have a bbl sir pls,” one person wrote on Instagram. In fact, a lot of people pointed out Kevo’s BBL as a dismissal of the post. Why having a BBL is worse than allegedly snitching is a mystery for another day. However, other people questioned the choice to include the diss. “Why even drop the video if he feel that way. 🤡,” asked one person. “Using rat status for marketing is wiiiiild,” added another. “Alone” will reportedly drop this week, according to Kevo. However, we’ll have any updates on the story. Follow all the latest music news here at HotNewHipHop.
