J Cole Surprises Future & Metro Boomin On New Album, Addresses Rap Beef After Kendrick Lamar Diss

As if J Cole hadn’t shocked the world back-to-back already with a Kendrick Lamar diss and a walk-back of it, he had one more surprise in store. Well, in reality, Future and Metro Boomin had it, as they included a feature from the Dreamville boss on their new album WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU. On the cut “Red Leather,” Cole has a couple of bars that seem to address how he apologized to Kendrick for his diss, saying that it didn’t feel right with his spirit last Sunday (April 7). While it’s unclear whether he recorded this before or after this whole situation, it still couldn’t have come at a more fitting time considering the context.

My energy was never on some toughest n***a s**t / I was just a conscious rapper that would f**k a n***a b***h,” J. Cole raps on “Red Leather.” Specifically, he ties a lot of this into his relationship with the streets (“Kept my nose out the streets, but I love to get a whiff“) and why he really presented that image in the first place (“The blicks get to blasting, I turn into a track star / Wanted all the h*es, what the f**k you think I rap for?“). Either way, it paints a pretty compelling picture, albeit one that he should’ve stood by in the first place instead of dropping “7 Minute Drill.” But the better late than never reversal indicates that the North Carolina MC truly had a change of heart and perspective.

J Cole Seems To Speak On Kendrick Lamar Apology On New Song With Future & Metro Boomin

Also, this J. Cole feature is interesting for what it means for Future and Metro Boomin, the latter of which had joked about Cole making sleepy music way back in the day. It seems like he “switched sides” on Drake, if he ever really took his side to begin with, and the duo is walking back on their alleged animosity against the “Neighbors” spitter, or at least what subtle shots or observations were relayed through Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That” feature. Does this mean they trust him now? There are a lot of confusing and probably not that deep loyalties and relationships to keep track of right now.

Overall, what we can safely say is that, albeit a little dead-pan and unexciting, this was a pretty solid Cole verse, even if the shock of it will overshadow its actual content. Others on WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU like A$AP Rocky not only provided even better performances, but threw their hat into the Drake diss ring too… at least, allegedly. Maybe J. Cole will be the one to mediate peace between both sides, and “Red Leather” is a bright indication that things will begin to heal after this civil war. To find out whether that’s just wishful thinking on our end, or if hip-hop really goes hard in its competitive roots, check back in with HNHH.

The Weeknd Appears To Be Dissing Drake On “WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU”

If you have been paying the slightest attention to news in hip-hop, you know that everyone seems to be on the “screw Drake” energy. Artists have been sending shots at The Boy for years. However, the animosity has been at an all-time high in 2024. It ramped up immediately after Kendrick Lamar’s direct attack on “Like That” from Metro Boomin and Future’s WE DON’T TRUST YOU. Now, three weeks later, the list of names has expanded on the sequel project WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU. The Weeknd is one of the next people to be dissing Drake and we are here to breakdown the lyrics.

The bars up for discussion appear on one The Weeknd’s many features on the album, “All to Myself.” It goes on the second verse where Abel is actually singing his diss. “They could never diss my brothers, baby (Future) / When they got leaks in they operation / I thank God that I never signed my life awayThey shooters makin’ TikToks / Got us laughin’ in the Lambo (Yeah).” It seems what The Weeknd is focusing on with Drake are the subtle attacks toward Future and Metro, as well as OVO versus XO.

Fans React To The Weeknd Dissing Drake

Drake and Tesfaye were close early on in their careers, especially during the years of Take Care and Kiss Land. Drizzy was looking to sign the fellow Canadian to his OVO label, but he declined it. There was also speculation that Drake was taking too much credit for The Weeknd’s career, while simultaneously not giving the R&B icon enough kudos for the work he did on Take Care. They have not worked together since the Kiss Land cut “Live For” back in 2013. With everyone coming for his neck, The Weeknd decided this was the right time to fire away.

What are your thoughts on The Weeknd supposedly dissing Drake on “All to Myself” off WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU? Is this beef fabricated for the sake of the record and everyone else dissing? Or, is The Weeknd been waiting to send shots? How do you think Drake will respond? Outside of the content, are you enjoying the song? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. What Did The Weeknd Say About Drake On Future And Metro Boomin’s New Album?

Drake has had a massive target on his back lately. In recent days, he’s been at the center of a beef with Kendrick Lamar, after Lamar dissed him on Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You. Now it looks like The Weeknd is getting in on the Drake bashing, too, on “All To Myself” from Future and Metro Boomin’s newest album, We Still Don’t Trust You.

What Did The Weeknd Say About Drake On Future And Metro Boomin’s New Album?

Here are the lyrics in question, via Genius:

“These n****s always yappin’, yeah
I promise that I got your back
Ooh, look at how we movin’, baby (Movin’, baby)
They could never diss my brothers, baby (Future)
When they got leaks in they operation
I thank God that I never signed my life away
And we never do the big talk (No, no, no, no, no)
They shooters makin’ TikToks
Got us laughin’ in the Lambo (Yeah)”

The lyric about not signing his life away appears to be a reference to Drake’s attempts to sign The Weeknd to his OVO Sound label early in his career. Then, the line about TikTok seemingly refers to Drake making music geared for a casual, TikTok-using audience, which The Weeknd finds laughable.

Future and Metro Boomin are about to outdo themselves with We Still Don’t Trust You.

When Can You Play Future And Metro Boomin’s We Still Don’t Trust You Album On Spotify?

We Still Don’t Trust You will be released on Friday, April 12. So, the album should be available to stream on Spotify (and across all DSPs) at 9 p.m. PST on April 11 and midnight EST on April 12. As its title suggests, Future and Metro’s collaborative album follows in the footsteps of We Don’t Trust You, which dropped on March 22.

On April 4, Metro Boomin posted on X (formerly Twitter), “This is not a deluxe. This is a completely separate body of work. #WeSTILLDontTrustYou 4/12/24.” Metro also teased the album with a clip of the late Kobe Bryant at a press conference after the Los Angeles Lakers went up 2-0 in the 2009 NBA Finals. “What’s there to be happy about?” Bryant said, looking disgusted. “Job’s not finished.”

Metro Boomin & Future Reveal Chilling Artwork For “We Still Don’t Trust You”

What a time to be alive if you are a hip-hop fan. 2024 has been quite the resurgent year for the genre and two artists who are contributing heavily to the revitalized excitement are Metro Boomin and Future. The trap icons reunited for a full body of work in late March with WE DON’T TRUST YOU. It was a hit for many, as there were many bangers, with “Like That” leading the way. However, the superstar tandem is not done yet. With We Still Don’t Trust You dropping in two days, Metro and Future recently revealed the artwork, according to HipHopDX.

If you thought the WDTY cover was amazing, this one might be even better. This time around, the inseparable producer and rapper duo have opted for an even ominous black and white color scheme. In two of the quadrants, Metro and Future can be seen wearing black suits with white shirts underneath. Then, in the other pair, they are sporting all white with masks of some sort.

Metro Boomin fittingly captioned the post on Instagram, “WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU
THE ALBUM OUT THIS FRIDAY DROP SOME 🔥🔥🔥 IF YOU READY.” It is safe to say that the community is definitely eager to get this project on their hands, especially with the consensus that this is poised to supersede its predecessor. Like before, we do not have much to go off of sonically speaking, outside of the fact that we will receive another Weeknd feature. But we are so amped for what should be another thrilling listening experience on April 12 at midnight.

Future & Metro Boomin’s ‘We Still Don’t Trust You’: Everything To Know, Including The Release Date, Tracklist & More

Not even an untimely phone hack can stop Metro Boomin or his longtime partner-in-rhyme Future as they prepare for the release of their second joint album in as many months, We Still Don’t Trust You.

Fans fully expect them to pick up where they left off with the first installment of their multi-release project, We Don’t Trust You, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and gave both artists their first non-Drake-featuring No. 1 hit song on the Hot 100 — although it was still technically about Drake, thanks to Kendrick Lamar’s declaration of menacing intent on “Like That.” Will they continue their admittedly vague assault on their frequent collaborator on the next album? We’ll find out soon.

5 Things We Want From Future & Metro Boomin’s “We Still Don’t Trust You”

Future and Metro Boomin dropped their highly anticipated album WE DON’T TRUST YOU on March 22. The album contained the instant hit “Type Sh*t,” “Like That” ft. Kendrick Lamar and the official release of the Travis Scott featuring “Cinderella.” However, the album’s trailer also announced another album, WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU is arriving on April 12. Metro, who will perform at the Pyramid of Giza on April 30th, later specified that this album is not a deluxe edition but “a completely separate body of work.” In the spirit of anticipation of the upcoming album, we’re looking at five things we want to see on WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU.

A 21 Savage Feature

Future and Metro Boomin have more than a few hits under their belt, but, Metro has just as many – if not more – with 21 Savage. It was quite a surprise that 21 Savage did not appear on WE DON’T TRUST YOU, considering 21’s rapport with both Future and 21. The two famously connected on Savage Mode favorite, “X” from Savage Mode, though they haven’t shared the stage many times since. A feature from 21 Savage would only add to the hype, especially considering the rumors surrounding Drake and Future’s supposed rift. A full verse is clearly the most desirable option. However, we’ll settle for 21’s adlibs over on Metro’s production.

A Bigger Feature From The Weeknd

The Weeknd made a brief but effective appearance on Metro Boomin and Future’s WE DON’T TRUST YOU. He was featured on the single “Young Metro.” While he doesn’t have a full verse, his vocals and contributions to a bridge were one of the highlights of the album. He’s worked with both Metro Boomin and Future before. Metro, specifically, connected with the Toronto crooner on songs like “Heartless” and “Creepin’.” Hopefully, if a second feature is planned for WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU, The Weeknd will have a full verse or at the very least, a hook.

Hidden Features On Release Night

Future and Metro Boomin are used to people listening to their projects when they drop at midnight. Metro’s previous two albums had a theme-centric process for revealing the features. These social media posts built an immense level of anticipation in a fun and engaging way. However, for WE DON’T TRUST YOU, he kept the features hidden until the album dropped on March 22. It was undoubtedly a pleasant surprise to hear Kendrick and Playboi Carti’s voices for the first time on “Like That” and “Type Sh*t,” respectively.

Creative Samples & Sound Bites

One of the best parts of Metro Boomin albums are the unique ways he flips samples. Metro’s sound often has a cinematic touch to it but his use of chipmunk soul samples adds a level of depth to his sonic repository. It’s most noticeable on “Everyday Hustle” featuring Rick Ross. Even more obvious samples, such as the marriage of Eazy-E’s “Eazy Duz It” and Rodney O and Joe Cooley’s “Everlasting Bass” on “Like That,” exemplify Metro’s innovative approach to production. Hopefully, WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU contains a few more surprising samples that resonate with the masses.

A Concise Album Length

Future and Metro Boomin’s WE DON’T TRUST YOU is practically an hour-long — an ideal length for most bodies of work. However, an hour can still be pushing it, especially if an album hasn’t obtained the coveted badge of having “no skips.” While the first of their two projects contained 17 songs in length, it’s follow-up might benefit from trimming the fat on WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU.
