Kanye West Might Be Working On New Music, Rooga Claims

It’s been almost a year since Kanye West’s controversial comments landed him in hot water once again. This time, though, amid brand deals splintering and particularly concerning comments and behavior, no one knew when he would try to make his musical comeback. Now, we have some rumors based on alleged collaborators that said day is soon to come. Moreover, Rooga recently appeared on the No Jumper podcast and claimed that Ye is putting together a new album in Japan, where his wife Bianca Censori is also staying with him. While the host, Adam 22, tried to get more details out of the Chicago rhymer, all he said was that “he’s working on an album.”

Of course, given the Yeezy mogul’s track record when it comes to released music, any news of a Kanye West record on the way is bound to make huge waves. Still, the most interesting thing that a new project will demonstrate, maybe, is how much his controversies bleed into it. After all, following his 2009 disruption at the MTV VMAs, reflections on fame, narrative, and being “the bad guy” fueled My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. With rampant antisemitism and his messy divorce from Kim Kardashian in mind, this could make for either a retribution or a disappointing double-down for the 46-year-old.

Rooga Says Ye’s In Album Mode

Regardless, that’s all just speculation and assumptions at the end of the day, beyond what Rooga expressed. While Kanye West has plenty of amazing albums, he also gained notoriety for the string of albums that he teased, previewed, or announced, but never released. Many fans out there probably won’t believe it ’til they see it, especially with his public context in mind. However, perhaps we will get something soon, as other reports indicate that Ye is working with Hit-Boy and Freddie Gibbs and spending time in Japan with Digital Nas and Ty Dolla $ign.

More Hints At Kanye West’s Musical Return

Meanwhile, there are a few other tidbits of information that could point to a new album, but they’re quite minimal and largely hearsay. In addition, previously unreleased tracks that resurfaced online from the 2011 era are also adding a little bit of excitement and hunger for new Ye. Let’s just hope that it’s not merely an extension of his personal life that he uses as a venting machine. With that in mind, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Kanye West.

Post Malone Comes Through With A Ballad On New Single “Overdrive”

Ahead of his upcoming album AUSTIN, Post Malone just dropped another single from the project titled “Overdrive.” Despite what the song’s title might have you believe, this is actually a softer cut that functions more like a ballad with its instrumentation, tempo, and vocal style. Sure, this is far from the first time that the Texas artist worked with more indie-rock, alt-rock, or even singer-songwriter sounds in his discography. That being said, this is still definitely one of the most overt and well-crafted examples of that in his hit-filled repertoire. On “Overdrive,” Post champions simplicity as his way forward, keeping things short, sweet, and structurally swelling.

Furthermore, on that last point, the track’s melodic and harmonic elements come from some simple piano chords, guitar strumming, and a string arrangement that pops out here and there. As such, the strings are what really elevate “Overdrive” and give it some forward momentum, coming in and out of the mix at various points. Elsewhere, Post Malone’s vocal melody is fitting for this type of track, as is the slinky bassline and melancholy guitar riff. Considering his career trajectory, this hints at a very compelling direction for the 28-year-old’s next full-length, as he fits this ballad mold quite well. His vocals soar without excessive tampering, the chord progression changes are tasteful, and he presented some interesting lyrical themes.

Post Malone’s “Overdrive”: Stream

Moreover, the single seems to be about wanting to change yourself to be with another person. Also, Post mentions living his life on “overdrive,” which could refer to his fame or to how quickly he goes through the motions. Regardless, it’s a bite-sized but well-crafted example of balladry that he hopefully expands on with more songs like this and “Mourning.” If you haven’t heard “Overdrive” yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service. Also, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Post Malone.

Benny The Butcher Previews Lil Wayne Collab For New Album “Everybody Can’t Go”

Benny The Butcher are cooking up something good for the former’s upcoming August collaborative project with Hit-Boy, Everybody Can’t Go. Moreover, the Griselda affiliate recently took to Instagram Live to give fans a taste of what’s to come, and included a brief tease of a potential Weezy collab that might appear on the album. Furthermore, if released, this marks their first collaboration since 2020’s “Timeless,” which also featured Big Sean, on Benny’s Hit-Boy-produced album Burden of Proof. While it’s a (very) short snippet, just the Young Money legend’s voice got fans pumped.

“New Orleans to Buffalo,” Lil Wayne rapped on the song before Benny The Butcher cut it off quickly. “That’s all ya’ll need to hear, y’all heard what the man said,” the Buffalo lyricist remarked. “I said I need Lil Wayne, y’all heard what the man said. It’s on the way.” Of course, this is far from the only tease he offered so far as to his next full-length release. Still, for those unaware of his artistry and incredibly formidable pen, hopefully this serves as an entry point for those late to the party.

Benny The Butcher Teases Lil Wayne Feature

Hopefully this collab drops, as the Tana Talk 4 rhymer had bad luck with them in the past. “They hit me and was like, ‘Hov got an idea of a song he wanted you to do,” Benny The Butcher told Joe Budden of a potential Jay-Z team-up. “And then the day that I linked up with him, I’m just kicking it with him.We having drinks and s**t, and he didn’t mention the song. And as soon as he said that, somebody was like, ‘Yo, we need you,’ and they called him over. He left and it never got brought up again. This like, two, three years ago.”

Meanwhile, a Drake collaboration also fell through, but don’t let these unfortunate circumstances cloud your judgement. There’s a good chance that a writer of his caliber bodied both other MCs on the track. With that potential in mind, fans can only dream of what he achieved with Tunechi. On that note, check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Benny The Butcher and Lil Wayne.

Lil Uzi Vert Says “Luv Is Rage 3” Will Be Out In A “Couple Of Months”

As one Lil Uzi Vert album releases and a hype cycle ends, another rises from the ashes to take its place. Moreover, after the success and buzz around their latest and highly anticipated album Pink Tape, they are once again in project mode, teasing the release of Luv Is Rage 3. While we don’t know for sure when the series’ next installment will come out, Uzi at least gave us a bit of a hint to go off of. Considering the sheer breadth and variety found on Pink Tape, it wouldn’t be too shocking if the Philly superstar decided to take some significant time before their next release. However, when they dropped their last solo studio album Eternal Atake in 2020, they released two other full projects that year, so maybe this is just their standard strategy.

Furthermore, the “Fire Alarm” rapper was approached on camera recently and was asked when Luv Is Rage 3 would come out. “Oh yeah, that’s coming,” Lil Uzi Vert responded. “Um, not too long. Probably, like… Honestly, I know I usually be lying, but a couple of months.” Well, at least they’re being honest, given just how long fans waited for Pink Tape after much teasing.

Regardless, it was definitely worth it, as the 26-track behemoth is expected to land at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Pink Tape reportedly sold about 165K album equivalent units in its first week, which makes it the highest hip-hop debut of the year so far. Sure, the numbers might not seem impressive when compared to other No. 1 hip-hop albums that released over the past few years. Still, context is everything, and plenty of factors worked in Lil Uzi Vert’s favor to apparently make it the first chart-topping rap project of the year.

Joell Ortiz & L’Orange Salute Everyone Who Makes It To Be An “OG” On New Single

Joell Ortiz, the skilled Brooklyn lyricist who formed part of the group Slaughterhouse, is gearing up to release a new album with producer L’Orange titled Signature. For those unfamiliar with his work, it’s characterized by sharp lines and wordplay, an emphasis on grimy production, and a confident delivery as he spits out street bars. If this newest single is anything to go by, this may well be one of the New York rapper’s best projects in a while. Moreover, “OG” is a dark and menacing soundscape layered with tales of Ortiz’s age, life experiences, and injustice.

Furthermore, Joell Ortiz specifically hones in on how people in the streets escape their tough circumstances and rise above systemic police abuse and hardened crimes. In fact, Ortiz speaks on his own status as an MC and how he’s aged, but also how he still remembers those days. His flow is steady and well-balanced between faster stanzas and more punch-packing short bars. His two verses on the song are actually narratively framed in somewhat of an inverse order. In the first, he stars with his current life and then reminisces on how it used to be. On the second he inverts that to recall how you might love your hood, “but when you leave, you won’t miss it much.”

Joell Ortiz & L’Orange’s “OG”

Meanwhile, the production here is simple but dangerously effective as a raw instrumental. With just an infectious bassline, simple boom-bap drums, and a distorted guitar strum that reverberates throughout, the beat bangs. Signature will likely be a very solid project, and “OG” builds that hype up as an excellent track. If you haven’t heard it yet, find it on your preferred streaming service and check out some standout lines below. Also, stay posted on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Joell Ortiz and L’Orange.

King Von & Tee Grizzley Grew Up “Heartless” On New Single

King Von’s upcoming posthumous album Grandson (arriving July 14) will be an important moment in the late rapper’s career. Moreover, it will be his second body of work after his passing, and many wonder whether it will stick the landing considering that many releases in this vein can feel exploitative. That being said, if this new track “Heartless” with Tee Grizzley is anything to go by, fans should expect to be satisfied. This is the kind of track that Von perfected during his career, with the right balance of aggression, darkness, but also sorrow. While the bars here may paint a harsh picture of the streets, the instrumental gives it a somber tone that puts it all into context.

Furthermore, high-pitched keys and atmospheric pads lead the melody and harmony on “Heartless.” It almost sounds nostalgic, but the hard trap drums ground the track in its violent subject matter. In addition, there are some buried choir vocals that make the beat feel more eerie, despite the fact that they’re quite subtle in the mix. Like much of King Von’s catalog, this track has a haunting feel that contrasts well with his bars. Not only does he speak on the harshness of his upbringing, but his present attitude on the track says more about it than any anecdote ever could.

King Von & Tee Grizzley’s “Heartless”

Meanwhile, Tee Grizzley comes through with a quick, short, but effective verse that matches the Chicago MC with ease. Also, he makes a bit more of an effort to switch up his flow at a certain point, even if he doesn’t divert from its core. Overall, it may be a standard Von song at the end of the day, but it’s yet another one where his talents shine through. If you haven’t heard “Heartless” yet, check it out on your preferred streaming service and read some notable bars below. As always, come back to HNHH for more on Tee Grizzley, King Von, and more great rap music each week.

How you gon’ take somethin’? We got a Drac’ on us, don’t make us face one (Baow)
I’m a rare breed, want another me? My n***a, it ain’t one (One of one)

Travis Scott Reportedly Filming “Utopia” Album Trailer

Mr. Travis Scott has been in the news a decent amount recently, despite not putting out much new music. A grand jury just cleared the Houston native days ago for the Astroworld Festival tragedy that happened at one of his concerts in 2021, in which multiple fans in the crowd were crushed to death. Since he’s avoided criminal and civil charges, the rapper is back to making content for the world. He was on Lil Uzi Vert’s new album, Pink Tape, with the mosh pit banger “Aye.” This marks the first collaboration between the two since 2018’s “Watch.”

Now, Travis Scott is setting his sights on a brand-new album, complete with hijinks media stunts. From the verified Twitter account TRAVIS SCOTT FAN PAGE (@RodeoTheAlbum), Scott is getting ready to unleash UTOPIA, his first full-length album since 2018’s Astroworld. And he’s already pulling off some publicity for the announced project. He’s dropping an album trailer soon, with Scott “‘looking for UTOPIA’ in different countries across the world,” according to the Tweet. There’s also a video of Travis Scott spray-painting the word “UTOPIA” in Tarragona, Spain. This gives credit to the international feel of the album trailer.

Travis Scott And The “UTOPIA” Hype

Scott is trying to put Astroworld Festival completely behind him. With the jury clearing him and a new single out with Lil Uzi Vert, he’s looking for a fresh start. Going around to different countries and spray-painting his new album’s name on foreign walls might seem a tad reckless. But it’s harmless and should make for an exciting album trailer. While there’s no news on when the album or trailer will drop, we do know he’s filming in far-flung locations.

Travis Scott is easily one of the best rappers in the game in 2023. Even with a five-year hiatus on his next album, he has remained in the pop culture canon with other music. He’s collaborated with Kid Cudi, Yeat, and Bad Bunny. There was recent speculation that he and SZA might be dating. And he’s been busy crafting hype for UTOPIA, shelling out for billboard ads, and updating his website with the UTOPIA logo. Whenever the album trailer and album drops, best believe his fans will be ready.

King Von’s Upcoming Posthumous Album “Grandson” Divides Fans

Grandson will be King Von’s next posthumous release, as his estate recently announced via social media. Moreover, the project is scheduled to release on July 14, and the cover art features a black and white picture of the rapper’s son wearing a fitted hat and OTF and O’Block chains. While this is obviously very exciting news for fans, it’s also something that made them cautious and skeptical. After all, other posthumous releases are bloated, disrespectful, or poorly put together in fans’ eyes. As such, the comments section under the announcement split fans into optimistic excitement and wary assessment.

Of course, plenty of comments just feature fire and heart emojis, indicating a simple but powerful support of the album and King Von’s musical legacy. “Finally! This gonna slap. We ready,” one fan expressed. “Please don’t give us dry a** features that Von prolly wouldn’t have did ready to hear this tho fasho,” another wrote. If his most recent single “Robberies” is anything to go by, though, this will probably still hold itself to a higher standard of quality. Still, some fans have the worst-case scenario in mind, which has unfortunately affected a lot of deceased artists’ posthumous work.

King Von’s Estate Announces Grandson For July 14 Release

“Stop milking this dead mans music and let him rest,” one user commented under the announcement of Grandson. “bro is they doing what i think they doin ……….. A.I genarated,” another feared, although that’s purely speculation. “Don’t f**k this album up gang,” another replied bluntly. Even though these doubts exist for fans, there’s also just as many people ready to support his estate and to celebrate what could’ve been of King Von’s career. Perhaps it will end up being one of the more acclaimed hip-hop albums of the year, and even the fans who are naysayers hope that’s the case.

Meanwhile, the Chicago MC continues to inspire stories around his life, struggles, and lasting impact as an artist. Many who blasted a recent documentary about his criminal life dedicate themselves to preserving his memory in more positive ways. Von’s estate knows the pressure, and hopefully (and probably) won’t taint his catalog for a quick buck. For more news and the latest updates on King Von, check back in with HNHH.

Coi Leray Teases Upcoming Project With Sultry New Look On Instagram

With her second album COI arriving on June 23, Coi Leray is in heavy promo mode for her next moves. As such, she’s probably very busy shooting visuals, taking press deals, and apparently debuting new looks like the one she just teased. Moreover, the rapper posted an Instagram Reel of her getting ready for what seems like a shoot, whether for a music video or something else entirely. Foregoing her usual long locks, she apparently rocked a short haircut with curls as her team put some hairspray on. Looking sultrily at the camera as her single “Bops” played in the background, she said that there are “good things coming” very soon.

Of course, this is far from the first time that she teased some sort of visual for that song in particular. Just last weekend, Coi Leray and a couple of her friends put on a twerk show for the camera while “Bops” played, yet it’s unclear if it’ll be a part of the music video or if she just built some hype. Regardless, the 26-year-old keeps leveling up and making waves that set the stage for her next moves. We’re only a month away from COI‘s release, but we’re sure that there will be much more to cover from her in that meantime.

Coi Leray’s New Look

However, a lot of fans were left a little confused with the album’s tracklist, which the Boston native revealed on Monday (May 22). Furthermore, a lot of that confusion stems from the features, which don’t include the array of U.S. rappers and hitmakers that appeared on Coi Leray’s debut album Trendsetter. Rather, COI will bring on David Guetta, Saucy Santana, Giggs, Lola Brooke, Skillibeng, and none other than James Brown, somehow. All this points to more genre diversity, but singles like “Players” and the teased “Make My Day” (with Guetta) hint towards heavy sample use, plus a more electronic and dance-inspired direction.

No matter what you think of these teases, it’s clear that the “My Body” MC set herself up for a big splash. Whether she capitalized on the hype remains to be seen, but we’re sure that she’ll continue to make waves no matter what. Until then, we have to find out whether she debuts any other new looks to usher in another era in her career. For the latest news and updates on Coi Leray, stay up to date on HNHH.

Conway The Machine Cashes Out More Than “Quarters” On New Single

Ahead of a host of new albums dropping soon, whether it’s his solo effort Won’t He Do It or his collaborative project with 38 Spesh, Conway The Machine is letting fans know early that he’s bound to meet his high quality standards. Moreover, he just released the single “Quarters,” which actually takes a slightly different approach to his usual production. The Khrysis-produced beat involves some trademarks: engaging and crisp boom-bap drums, ghostly tones, occasional chimes, and a funky lead melody. However, the buzzy staccato bass hits actually give this track a pretty unorthodox sonic pallet for Conway’s typical fare.

Lyrically, the amicably departed Griselda alum delivers a quick but impressive verse. His coke rap subject matter (however common, tried, or true) is still brought to life by lines like “Water-whipped the ounces, it’s residue in that coffee pot.” Of course, staying in that lane for the whole verse doesn’t leave much room for dynamics or a change in pace. Instead, where this track succeeds is in keeping you engaged in his layered, multi-syllabic, and expertly flowed rhymes from beginning to end. As a surprise, the track’s music video also includes the non-streaming track “Brucifix” with Westside Gunn.

Conway The Machine’s “Quarters”

Switching to Conway The Machine’s next moves, he just released a short collab tape with Drumwork signee Jae Skeese. Furthermore, as far as his upcoming team-up with 38 Spesh, it should make for a concise and gripping encounter. “Me and Conway got an album,” Spesh revealed to Bootleg Kev. “The people gotta get ready for that. It’s done, I’m gonna follow up after Gunsmoke [his recently released album] with that. The name of that album is called Special Machinery. Something serious, Special Machinery, we on there getting busy and shit, you know what I’m saying. I produced the whole joint, me and my guy Jimmy Dukes. He’s a producer from out of Buffalo, we produced the whole joint.” On that promising note, check out standout bars from “Quarters” below. Also, you can find the track on your preferred streaming service, and as always, return to HNHH for the latest on Conway The Machine.
