Khalid Is Thankful For His Musical Journey On “Ground”

Khalid still remains to be one of the biggest R&B/pop stars of this generation. Even though it feels like you don’t hear his name as much as you might have in the late 2010’s, he hasn’t gone anywhere. He still pulls elite numbers on streaming services and radio play even without a new album since 2021. However, the El Paso, Texas native will be following up Scenic Drive (The Tape) very soon. In fact, the LP drought will end on August 2 when he comes through with Sincere, his third studio tape. So far, the “Young Dumb & Broke” singer has put out two singles for it, “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me” and “Adore U”. But Khalid is coming back for thirds with “Ground”.

Overall, this track finds the veteran hitmaker at his most introspective, as he details a past psychedelic trip. According to Uproxx, Khalid shared an announcement of “Ground”, as well as the story behind it. “Years ago, through moments of uncertainty, I really began to question what my purpose was as an artist”, he began. “I started my own personal journey through psychedelics in 2021 and I’ll never forget the moment this song came to my mind. Just like the random mountain I climbed in Arizona, life is an uphill battle. As beautiful as the top may seem, I’m so happy to embrace the ground that I walk on”.

When you read the lyrics on the surface, it sounds like another relationship cut. But with this explanation in mind, you start to pick up on how clever the writing actually is. He is singing about himself to himself across the track’s 3:07 runtime. Overall, it is a beautiful song from Khalid and it really evokes a sense of self-belief and never giving up on the road to prosperity. With song’s like this, Sincere looks to be a top-flight record for him.

Future Fuels Fan Excitement Over His Upcoming Mixtape Once Again

Southside’s most recent interview with XXL contained a very exciting update for Future fans, as he indicated that he’s hard at work on his next mixtape. Moreover, it seems like this project might literally be called Mixtape Pluto, and that it will see the Atlanta trap pioneer return to his more raw stylings across his legendary catalog. Of course, this is far from the first time that we’ve heard about this new record, and despite the incessant teasing, fans are still just as excited for it. It also comes after two collaborative albums this year with Metro Boomin that had its own extra mixtape attached, so this hot streak could be even more fiery in 2024.

Sadly, it seems like Future and Metro Boomin won’t quite celebrate this trek in the same fashion as they had originally planned. You probably heard that the duo canceled a couple of upcoming tour dates, which some fans online speculatively assumed was due to low ticket sales. The actual reasoning behind canceling these shows is still unclear, but no further evidence emerged suggesting that low ticket sales had anything to do with it. Either way, another mixtape would probably entice or distract fans when it comes to copping tickets, depending on how good it is.

Future Is Still In Mixtape Mode, Southside Reveals

What’s more is that Future kept his foot on the gas after his Metro Boomin collabs, including the recent Strick collab “RECIPE FOR LOVE.” As such, we can assume that he’s working on his new mixtape with the same prolific work ethic. Considering the storm that these collab records caused within the rap game, we wonder whether this new project will inspire a similar earthquake. But if it’s just straight-up bangers, we won’t complain if it’s a more straightforward release.

Meanwhile, fans might remember that Future slightly jumped the gun with this mixtape. An offhand tweet referencing one of his bars on his Tee Grizzley collab “Swear To God” had fans thinking that he would release it earlier this year. But that didn’t pan out, and now we’re back to a patiently excited square one. Hopefully we get news on this project sooner rather than later.

Trizz & MIKE SUMMERS Tide Fans Over With Blu-Assisted “Cream”

Trizz, an underground Los Angeles, California MC, and Kansas City, Missouri producer MIKE SUMMERS (Tech N9ne) are back with “Cream”. This is the third single from the tandem’s forthcoming sophomore album, Cavi En Cursive. The highly anticipated project was originally going to be out on July 12, but they wanted to make some adjustments. Trizz hilariously let his fans know of this after a confusing time. “I’m on y’all necks! “CREAM” Ft. Blu out tonight!!! Oh yea, my album pushed till next Friday. 😂😂😂”. There is a good chance streaming users will not have access to it, as Trizz has stated on his X account that it was going to be available in physical copies only before its initial drop date. “My album will not be on Apple Music or Spotify. You have to buy it directly from me. Again, I understand if you don’t want to, that’s fine but I’m not giving my hard work out for free anymore. Please respect it. Love”.

Just based off of how Trizz carries himself in these posts, you can tell he really values the craft. That is something that will always be appreciated in what can be a popcorn market. As for “Cream”, though, him and MIKE SUMMERS are connected stably. The song pays a loving homage to the Wu-Tang Clan classic of the same, and the rapping performances from Trizz and Blu would make the members of the iconic posse proud. All of the elements –horns, synths, piano leads, and luxurious drums– all mix beautifully instrumentally speaking, too. That is no surprise, given the gems that SUMMERS dropped for his running mate on the previous singles “Alpine” and “Baseline”.

03 Greedo Tantalizes Fans Ahead Of New Album With “Kill Me / Still Feel Loaded”

03 Greedo is building anticipation for a new album with two singles, “Kill Me” and “Still Feel Loaded”. It is unclear which releases will make the final tracklist, as there is currently some confusion. The Watts, California rapper singer updated his Instagram followers about a month ago regarding the plans for later this year. “While we waiting on sample clearances for #HellaGreedy we got another cake baked for you. New Full Length Studio Album(+Deluxe) “The Life That I Deserve”. In that June 11 post, Greedo also tagged all of the producers that are assisting him. It is quite a respectable list that includes evilgiane, Hit-Boy, Cash Cobain, Harry Fraud, himself, Cash Money AP, and more. There is no current release for Hella Greedy nor for The Life That I Deserve. However, the latter is expected later this summer.

03 Greedo is going to be taking this extra project on a North American tour starting on October 18 and running through November 30. With that timeline, there is a good chance The Life That I Deserve drops sometime in August or early September. So, yes, there is a lot of moving parts for Greedo right now, and it will be interesting to see when and where everything falls into place. For now, the auto-crooner is tiding fans over with “Kill Me” and “Still Feel Loaded”, which marks his second two-song EP this year. In late April he put out “R.I.C.O.”, alongside Maxo Kream, and “Bless Your Soul”. Helluva Beats cooked up the instrumentals for these latest tracks, which is a great sign because these two have quite a lot of chemistry. It is on display for sure and we recommend you give them a whirl with the links below.

BIGBABYGUCCI Shares The Woozy “Pink Sprite” Ahead Of His Next Album

BIGBABYGUCCI is an artist we have not given a lot of shine to in the past, but “Pink Sprite” is turning us into believers. The man hails from Charlotte, North Carolina, another underrated spot for rap talent. While we are not well-versed in his discography –which traces back to 2016– these last two singles we have checked out are extremely trippy and well-produced. If we had to describe BIGBABYGUCCI’s style, we would say it borrows from the sounds of psychedelic trap, trap, and hints of indie and Southern hip-hop.

“Pink Sprite” features all of those subgenres and they all combine for an enriching experience. The drawn-out synths, addicting skittering drum patterns, and GUCCI’s druggy flows will have you floating into space. This one of many previews of his next album, BABY 5. It will be dropping on August 5, so fans will still have to wait about three more weeks. However, we can feel that it will be worth it in the end. This will be a follow-up to 2023’s When You Go to Sleep and the final tracklist is not official yet. BIGBABYGUCCI has also hinted at the possibility of a tour, so be sure to follow him on social media for any updates. For now, stream one of GUCCI’s favorite tracks from the project, “Pink Sprite”, now.

JPEGMAFIA Continues To Push Boundaries On The Wild & Trippy “SIN MIEDO”

JPEGMAFIA never rests on his laurels, and it is why he is such a fascinating artist in a genre that can become too one dimensional. This has allowed him to work amongst some the greatest and most unique talents in the game. He has even stepped outside of hip-hop, with one of his most recent experiments being with Raveena on “Junebug”. Speaking of collaborations, the Brooklyn native has been devoting a lot of his time to helping out others like Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign on VULTURES 1, or Danny Brown on SCARING THE H*ES. But, as of a month ago, JPEGMAFIA is getting back to working on his solo catalog, and today that is continuing with “SIN MIEDO”.

This song is looking like the second single for his upcoming and currently unnamed album. “SIN MIEDO” follows up on the chaotic and industrial-sounding “don’t rely on other men”. It was one of the standout tracks of June and “SIN MIEDO” looks like it has a chance to be for July. The Spanish to English translation for this means “no fear” and it is clear that JPEGMAFIA had none of that when creating this off-the-wall record. Like its predecessor, “SIN MIEDO” includes plenty of guitar sections, who are seemingly handled by Alex Goldblatt (BLP KOSHER, 6LACK, Kehlani). Additionally, there is a wild vocal sample from Mr. Mixx’s “Hoochie Mama”. Somehow, but not surprisingly, the mad scientist that is Peggy manages to piece all of these elements together for another thrilling banger.

NoCap Is Full Of Anguish On “Yacht Party”

Mobile, Alabama singer and rapper NoCap is one of the Southern multi-hyphenates who can deliver a plethora of vibes. You want more uplifting and hype bangers? He’s got you. Are you looking to loose yourself in a serene yet sad soundscape? NoCap can provide that too and he is doing as such on his latest single “Yacht Party”. His melodic delivery allows him to effortlessly float between the differing styles we mentioned, and it makes this song a pleasure to listen to. On “Yacht Party”, NoCap is actually having quite the opposite of an on-the-ocean rager. Instead, he is drowning at sea in his emotions that are becoming a lot to bear.

I wish I could leave my problems inside the heart of the ocean / But I’m afraid I might find em flowing on a yacht party, Miami“. All of this is beautifully performed over a singer-songwriter-esque instrumental. It allows for him to really let his singing voice shine, even though inside him things are dark and cold. Also making “Yacht Party” a special gem is that it is a promotional record for his next album, Before I Disappear Again. The supposed 23-song set is due for its release on August 16 with the rumored features being solid. Quavo, SoFaygo, Rylo Rodriguez, Hunxho, D’Yani, and Sleepy Hallow round out the list.

B.o.B Returns With Danceable “Bamboo” Single Ahead Of New Album

B.o.B. rose up the ranks very quickly at the beginning of the 2010’s decade. With radio darlings such as “Airplanes”, it’s sequel with Eminem, “Magic”, “Nothing On You”, and “HeadBand”, the North Carolina rapper had something cooking. However, it was quite difficult for the then Decatur, Georgia raised artist to recapture that magic, no pun intended. But after releasing Elements, his first album as an independent entity, he seems to be on the up and up once again. The Southern MC has a new project in the works, and it will be called Space Time. It is going to cap off his Elements II series of records, the sequel to the saga that we mentioned earlier. Fans can expect it to drop on August 16 and for it to have 10 tracks. In the meantime, though, B.o.B. is here with a single from it called “Bamboo”.

According to Genius, this is supposedly the second offering from Space Time so far. “Steve Harvey” is the lead-off track, and it features a pretty left-field sounding instrumental. It is extremely glitchy and off-kilter and a little all over the place, but in an intriguing way. “Bamboo” is similarly fun, and it sounds like B.o.B. has been in a good headspace while crafting this send-off project. On this record, he is rapping with a carefree attitude over a bouncy and tropical beat. His bars are playful, and they definitely match the vibe presented.

LL Cool J’s “Passion” Is Palpable In New Music Video: Watch

LL Cool J’s new single “Passion” certainly lives up to his title, as he spits on what he loves about rap music and how much he cares about its artistry. It’s a very motivating and nostalgic track, an element that its new music video emphasizes by seeing LL in his current form and as a small child. There’s a particular emphasis on him writing rhymes in his notebook in presumably his childhood room, and it makes for a dynamic and engaging visual treatment as you can see the bars literally orbit around him and pop up in cartoon speech bubbles.

Furthermore, this is the latest single for LL Cool J’s upcoming album, and his first in over a decade, The FORCE (Frequencies Of Real Creative Energy). The project will feature Nas, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and more massive guests across the 14-track, largely Q-Tip-produced tracklist, and it’s shaping up to be one of 2024’s biggest legacy releases. “[I was] going back to the drawing board and learning how to rap again,” he told the Associated Press about the LP. “The LeBrons, the Stephs, the Jordans and the Kobes, they all go back to the drawing board, they always try to make themselves better. I wasn’t trying to do trendy, and I wasn’t trying to recapture anything I did before.”

LL Cool J’s “Passion” Music Video: Watch

Also, this “Passion” music video lands among LL Cool J’s reflections on his relationship with another icon of the game. During a conversation with Charlamagne Tha God, he spoke on how some people are under the impression that he has beef with Jay-Z. While the two MCs aren’t the best of friends, they’ve shown each other plenty of love over the years despite what some anecdotes, rumors, and lyrical interpretations might have you believe. After all, they’re two New York legends.

Meanwhile, LL Cool J is just as prone to talk about the current state of hip-hop. “Drake, that ‘Not Like Us’ s**t, that s**t’s torture for a motherf***er,” he said of the K.Dot and Drizzy rap beef during this Charlamagne convo. “Ah, s**t, little kids singing to it. You know that s**t’s bananas. You’ll be fine, bro. Don’t even trip. You just don’t take it personal… You can’t be overly sensitive. I get it. I been there, I know it. It can be upsetting… But you gotta control that.”

Mustard Gets Deeply Personal On 10-Minute Spoken Word Cut “Pray For Me”

“There’s a song on my album where I’m rapping at the end. That’s the most vulnerable [moment], because I’ve never rapped, nothing like that”. That is what Mustard told Real 92.3 LA just a couple of weeks ago in regard to a track on the upcoming Faith Of A Mustard Seed. “I’ve been behind the boards so long that nobody has ever heard my side of things. When it comes to anything. Family or friends… I think it was just the time. Sometimes people need to hear it, from you”, the acclaimed Cali producer explained. That track Mustard is referring to is out now and it is “Pray For Me”.

Further into his interview with his local radio station, the “Not Like Us” mastermind mentioned some of the tragedies that struck him over the last half decade. They unfortunately included the loss of his grandparents during the peak of the COVID-19 virus and his recent split from Chanel Thierry. All of that and more is what makes onto this 10-minute behemoth of a single, “Pray For Me”. Mustard does rap as promised, but in more of a spoken word type of manner. Regardless of the nitpick, he really cuts himself open and unleashes a lot of things that have brewing inside.

Mustard does ask the man upstairs for help, especially in his current position, he also sends his thoughts to his loved ones and friends in the industry. He namedrops his West Coast bros such as YG, and Kendrick Lamar for helping him achieve a number one hit ahead of the project. Closer to the end of the track, he explains how his next album and its title came to fruition. While this suspected closer is not a song that most listeners will probably revisit, it is a touching moment and one that gives some extra background information on one of the biggest hitmakers of this generation.

And I feel like where I come from, I moved just about every mountain that was in my way
And still movin’ em, with the faith of God
