Teddy Pendergrass’ Widow Sued By Tyrese Over Biopic Rights

Tyrese is suing the widow of singer Teddy Pendergrass for the rights to his life story. Tyrese, through his production company Voltron Entertainment, claims to have been working on a Pendergrass biopic since 2013 with the permission of Pendergrass’ widow, Joan. However, Tyrese has now alleged that Joan has refused to extend the option to the story’s rights. “Sadly things had to come to this….Another Philadelphia legend Lee Daniels is attached direct me as Teddy. This has been 13 years+ years in the makin this man embraced me when he was on this earth and shared to me “No one can play me in my biopic but you Tyrese I’m sure of it”…. -TP,” Tyrese said in a rambling Instagram post. While the post did not mention a lawsuit, the legal avenue was confirmed to TMZ.

Pendergrass, an R&B icon, passed away in 2010. That’s around the same time that Tyrese claims to have begun work on the biopic. The primary reason for the lawsuit appears to be to prevent “undue financial harm” to Voltron Entertainment. According to Tyrese and other sources, the company has spent around $450,000 on the production of the film over the last decade. However, there is very little information about just where in production the film is beyond the fact that Tyrese intends to play Teddy. As mentioned, director Lee Daniels (The Butler, Empire, The United States vs. Billie Holiday) is reportedly set to direct.

However, suing Joan Pendergrass is not the only legal matter Tyrese finds himself in. The actor and musician is currently embroiled in a legal battle against Home Depot over alleged racial discrimination. Tyrese alleges that a cashier at one of the hardware store’s locations racially profiled two of his associates. He claims that the cashier refused to let them make a purchase using his credit card.

However, Home Depot refuted the claim. The chain states that Gibson had brought several items to a register and then left them unattended to continue shopping. The cashier in question cleared his transaction to continue serving other customers, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ. In response to this, he took to Instagram to call out Home Depot’s Trump-supporting founder, Bernard Marcus.

Why Are DJ Envy & Tyrese Beefing?

Tyrese and DJ Envy have been at odds for a while, but their feud reached a new level of intensity after the singer’s recent appearance on The Breakfast Club. The two men exchanged heated words on air and social media, leaving fans wondering what caused their fallout and if they could ever reconcile. Here’s a breakdown of the beef and its origins.

The Breakfast Club Interview

On September 7, 2023, Tyrese joined The Breakfast Club for an interview, where he claimed he was on an “apology tour” and wanted to clear the air with DJ Envy and Charlamagne tha God. However, things got heated when DJ Envy confronted Tyrese about some disrespectful comments he allegedly made to his wife in the past. Tyrese denied the accusations and said he was only trying to help their marriage by sending them positive messages.

DJ Envy also expressed his disappointment in Tyrese for not reaching out to him during his divorce from ex-wife Samantha Lee and his public mental health issues. Tyrese said he felt that Envy did not support him during his dark times and accused him of being fake. DJ Envy stated he wanted to remember Tyrese as a brother who helped his relationship, not as someone going through it. He also said that some of Tyrese’s words deserved him to “box his mouth.”

After the interview, Tyrese took to Instagram to post a series of videos, where he defended himself and called out DJ Envy for lying and threatening him. He said he had receipts to prove that he never disrespected DJ Envy’s wife and that he was always respectful and supportive of their marriage. He also said he was ready for “all the smoke” with DJ Envy and challenged him to a fight. Tyrese also accused Envy of being jealous of him and his success. He said that Envy was insecure about his own marriage and that he was projecting his issues onto him. He also mentioned that the radio host was just trying to go viral by creating drama with him.

On September 17, 2023, Tyrese changed his tone and posted an Instagram Live video, where he waved a white flag and said he wanted peace with DJ Envy. He said he was taking the higher road and did not want any problems. He also said he respected Charlamagne tha God more than DJ Envy, but he was willing to bury the hatchet with both of them. Further, Tyrese said he was going through a lot of things when he was having his mental health issues and that he was trying to navigate through them. He said he wanted to clear his name and did not mean any harm. He also hoped that DJ Envy would accept his apology and move on.

As of now, it is unclear if DJ Envy has responded to Tyrese’s peace offer or if they have resolved their beef. The two men have a history of friendship and collaboration, but they also have a history of conflict and misunderstanding. Hopefully, they can find a way to mend their relationship and move forward with respect and love.

Tyrese Slams Ex-Wife As A “Gold Digger, Gaslighter, Narcissist, Manipulator”

Tyrese put his ex-wife, Samantha Lee, on blast with a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday. In doing so, he accused her of “gaslighting” him and labeled her with several insults. He says she’s “demanding $20,000 a month” in child support for their daughter and doesn’t believe it to be a fair figure.

“I have NO CLUE who this person is…… #Gaslighting is the most vile form of manipulation she’s out trying to sell people on shit that nobody is sold on,” Tyrese wrote. From there, he labeled her a “Gold digger, Gaslighter, narcissist, manipulator.”

Tyrese added: “For a woman who doesn’t want money from me, you’ve already hired THREE different LAW FIRMS, trying to crack the prenuptial agreement, you drug this divorce trial out into almost 3 years and now you’re requesting a new trial with a jury.” Check out Tyrese’s full post below.

It’s far from the first time that Tyrese has called out his ex-wife publically. Earlier this year, he dropped a song titled, “Love Transaction,” in which he calls out Lee for allegedly using their child for $20,000 in monthly child support. “Dragging me in and out of court / Trying to take all that I’ve been working for / Can you justify what you say the baby needs? / Don’t I make sure she has everything? / 20,000 isn’t child support / We both know just who that money’s for,” he sings on the track. In other posts in recent months, Tyrese has gone so far as to compare Lee to former President Donald Trump. The two married in 2017 and announced their divorce three years later.

Tyrese Struggles With His Lawsuit Against Home Depot: ‘It’s Like My Disneyland’

Tyrese Gibson Confirms Beef With Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is Over

Tyrese is suing Home Depot, but he is not happy about it. Speaking with TMZ, Tyrese revealed that it is one of his favorite places in the world. Last week, Tyrese filed a $1 million lawsuit with the home improvement store.

“I really struggled with even filing the lawsuit because Home Depot literally been my favorite place,” Tyrese said. “It’s like my Disneyland.”

With the current lawsuit, Tyrese revealed that he is considering going to rival company Lowe’s.

The singer and actor, along with two of his associates who “regularly provide construction services to Gibson,” are suing the home improvement giant for discrimination and racial profiling.

According to PEOPLE, Gibson, Eric Mora, and Manuel Hernandez are seeking over $1 million in damages, additional punitive damages, and “a declaratory judgment declaring that” Home Depot acted in violation of California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act. The $1 million total reflects the amount of time Gibson has spent with Home Depot in his lifetime.

The event date at the center of the suit was Feb. 11. Tyrese allowed the two men to use his car as he waited outside to avoid fanfare. Before exiting the store, Tyrese was said to give verbal permission to use the card, but the cashier refused, leading to Tyrese returning inside, and the cashier still refused.

The lawsuit reads:

“The cashier gave no reasonable explanation other than repeating ‘store policy’ and demanded to see a form of identification. The manager refused to speak with Gibson in person. It was only after significant heated discussion with the cashier that Gibson was finally able to complete the transaction.”

It also states the employees hindered the transaction due to their skin color and national origin. Tyrese captured part of the event on YouTube.

In a statement, Home Depot wrote: “Diversity and respect for all people are core to who we are, and we do not tolerate discrimination in any form. We value Mr. Gibson as a customer, and in the months since this happened, we’ve reached out to him and his attorneys several times to try to resolve his concerns. We will continue to do so.

Tyrese Fights Judge’s Custody Settlement Ruling

Yesterday, we reported that actor Tyrese Gibson has been ordered to pay $650,000 in child support and legal fees. This settlement is in regard to his ongoing custody case with his ex-wife, Samantha Lee Gibson. The decision was made by a judge in Fulton County court yesterday. While the overall sum is massive, most of it won’t even go to his ex-wife. The majority of the money will go to Samantha’s attorney, who accounts for $399,000 of the total. Tyrese has to pay $237,944 for child support to his ex-wife.

The ruling comes less than a year after Tyrese complained about being asked to pay $10,000 per month to his ex. Last fall, he argued in court that the amount was excessive. According to the actor, Samantha earns a good income herself. Therefore, she shouldn’t need nearly so much from him. He also accused the judge of being biased against him due to his race. However, it’s unclear if there is any truth to this claim. Now, Tyrese has made it clear that he has no intention of just rolling over and accepting the ruling.

Tyrese Can Afford It, But He’s Not Going Down So Easily

Some may think Tyrese’s reluctance to pay the huge sum stems from a lack of funds. However, according to the actor, that isn’t the case. Tyrese claims that he has the means to pay the $636,000 child support and legal fees. However, he believes that the judge’s ruling was unfair and intends to challenge it in court. He did not say whether or not this was due to his belief that the judge was being racist. However, he made it clear that he was fighting for dads everywhere.

The Fast and Furious actor stated his intentions at LAX airport. TMZ caught up with him while he was in transit. The impromptu interview took place just one day after the judge ordered him to pay $237,000 to Samantha Lee Gibson for child support and $399,000 to her attorneys. Although Tyrese is committed to supporting his children, he is determined to fight against the ruling and plans to appeal it. What do you think of Tyrese’s decision to fight the ruling? Sound off in the comments!
