Pharrell, 21 Savage, and Tyler, the Creator Team Up on ‘Cash In Cash Out’

Pharrell connects with 21 Savage and Tyler, the Creator on “Cash In Cash Out.”

Over Pharrell’s million-dollar instrumental, 21 and Tyler drop flashy verses on the money-making anthem, which includes a hook that will be stuck in your head all summer long.

“Money turned me into an asshole / I ain’t gon’ lie, I was used to being poor,” raps 21 on his verse, while Tyler boasts about turning down a $2.5 million gig (“I declined because the stage didn’t match my ethos”).

In an interview with Apple Music, Pharrell opened up about the collaboration. “I knew the track was aggressive, and it doesn’t let up,” he said. “So it’s like those are the two. It’s like letting two pit bulls loose. Ravenous. Two ravenous wolves… Tyler went crazy. He had done that verse before he put his last album out.”

And there may be even more music on the way. “I miss it. That’s probably the most I can say,” said The Neptunes hitmaker. “I don’t know if you could tell, just based off of everything that’s been happening. Just, I miss it, Pusha, Jack, Kendrick, this. I’m excited.”

The song arrives ahead of Pharrell’s Something in the Water festival, which will take place in Washington, D.C. on Juneteenth weekend (June 17-19) and stream live on Amazon Music.

21 Savage and Tyler will both perform, along with Usher, Lil Baby, Ashanti, and Ja Rule. Pharrell will also hit the stage with special guests Clipse, Justin Timberlake, N.O.R.E., Q-Tip, and SZA.

Pharrell Is All About His Money On The Focused ‘Cash In Cash Out’ With 21 Savage And Tyler The Creator

It’s not too often that we get new music with Pharrell as the lead artist. The last time that happened was back in 2020 when he released “Entrepreneur” with Jay-Z. Prior to that, it was NERD’s 2017 album No One Ever Really Dies Pharrell’s “Freedom” single which arrived in 2015. The point being, it’s a rarity that Pharrell, but luckily for us, one of those rare moments is today as the hip-hop icon returns with “Cash In Cash Out.” The record touches down with features from 21 Savage and Tyler The Creator, the latter of which he collaborated with for “Juggernaut” from Tyler’s Call Me If You Get Lost.

“Cash In Cash Out” arrives with 21 Savage leading the way as he handles the song’s verse and follows it up with a scathing first verse. He soon steps away from the mic to allow Tyler The Creator to also knock his verse out of the park. All in all, it’s an enjoyable track that is built on Pharrell’s trademark off-kilter production. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Pharrell explained why he chose 21 Savage and Tyler The Creator for the song. “I knew the track was aggressive, and it doesn’t let up,” he said. “So it’s like those are the two. It’s like letting two pit bulls loose. Ravenous. Two ravenous wolves….Tyler went crazy. He had done that verse before he put his last album out.”

There’s no telling if the song is a part of a much larger project from Pharrell. However, during the Apple Music interview, Pharrell spoke about the possibility of more music on the way. “I miss it,” he said. “That’s probably the most I can say. I miss it. I don’t know if you could tell, just based off of everything that’s been happening. Just, I miss it, Pusha, Jack, Kendrick, this. I’m excited.”

Tyler The Creator’s Latest Golf Le Fleur Converse Are Out Now — And They Look Amazing

The partnership between Tyler The Creator and Converse has proven to be quite fruitful. In addition to the Golf Wang Chucks that sold out nearly instantly the day they dropped — and the customizable re-release from earlier this year — as well as the hilarious “Really Cool Converse Club” commercial that Tyler directed, the partnership has now spawned an entirely new shoe, the GLF 2.0, designed by Tyler. Rather than being an athletic shoe like the ones borne from other artist/brand collaborations, it’s a casual sneaker that’ll likely look just as good dressed up and dressed down.

There are currently two colorways of the new sneaker: Oil Green and Bison, and Curry and Copper Tan. The upper is canvas and suede, with fat laces, and a classic overall silhouette that gives off the same retro vibe Tyler’s been embracing since his Flower Boy era. They’re priced at just $110 and odds are, they’ll be gone before the day is out, but you can still try your luck at Converse.com. There’s almost no way there’s not a restock at some point.

Tyler’s Golf Le Fleur label has flourished this year, with the immensely busy rapper-producer-designer introducing both a line of nail polish and a line of luggage, which he introduced with a cheeky short film.

Lil Nas X Compares Himself To Frank Ocean And Tyler The Creator While Discussing ‘Homophobia In The Black Community’

At the moment, Lil Nas X has beef with the BET Awards after he didn’t get a single nomination for this year’s show. He was so incensed, in fact, that he dropped a diss track about BET. The network went ahead and issued a response, in which they noted the previous times Nas was nominated at the BET Awards and declared themselves “passionate advocates for the wonderful diversity that exists within our community.”

Still, Nas has more to say, but about the Black community at large beyond just BET, as he took to Twitter to discuss homophobia (a particularly relevant topic right now given we’re a week into Pride Month).

Yesterday afternoon, he tweeted, “this not over no bet award this is about the bigger problem of homophobia in the black community, y’all can sit and pretend all u want but imma risk it all for us.” Hours later, a Twitter user made note of Frank Ocean and Tyler The Creator’s previous nominations and Nas responded, “love frank and tyler to death but can we admit queer men are more respected when they do less feminine things or am i making that up?”

Somebody else responded by implying that Nas didn’t get a nomination this year because his “music sucks,” but the rapper got the conversation back on track, replying, “ok cool i suck, my music is terrible, bad nas. now answer the question ‘are queer men are more respected when they do less feminine things’ yes or no?”

Somebody else jumped in, “you’re not making it up but when will gay men understand they can be gay w/o making it their whole personality? now you act like a female rather than you just liking men and that’s where people are put off.” To that, Nas replied, “gay men should continue making being gay their whole personality as long as we are still being jailed n fckin killed in countries for it.”

Meanwhile, BET shared a gallery of images and videos of Nas on social media last night, declaring, “This is bigger than the #BETAwards. This is real life and we will always rock with Lil’ Nas X and stand for our people.” Nas wasn’t moved by that, as he responded this morning, “these are literally just buzz words placed together.”

Made In America celebrated its tenth-anniversary last year with headliners Justin Bieber and Lil Baby, although technically, the tenth event will be this year due to 2020’s COVID-related cancelation.

It’s shaping up to be a pretty stacked summer for music festivals, as Day N Vegas also announced its lineup today featuring headliners J. Cole, SZA, and Travis Scott, who is returning after a months-long hiatus after his own Astroworld Festival in 2021 ended with 10 deaths and hundreds of injuries. We’ve already seen The Roots Picnic this month, while HARD Summer and iHeartRadio are set to take place later in the year. If you’re any kind of music fan, you’ll certainly have plenty of opportunities to catch your faves live at some point — if you can decide which one of the dozen or so fests coming this year you want to spring for.
