Freddie Gibbs’ Outside-The-Box Take On Who Won The Drake And Kendrick Lamar Beef

Discussion about the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef is finally starting to slow down ever so slightly. With Drake’s most recent diss “The Heart Part 6” he proclaimed that he was done with the beef. It’s also been a full week with no responses from the otherwise quite speedy Lamar. That’s led to some rappers and members of the hip-hop media to look at the beef in its totality and try to decide who won. That’s what fans wanted Freddie Gibbs to weigh in on when they asked him on Twitter, but he had a pretty surprising answer.

When a fan asked Freddie straight up who he thought won between Kendrick and Drake, he gave an alternate response. “The record labels” he responded in a quote tweet to the original question. It’s a fair response given that the beef has sparked an absolutely massive flood of streams for nearly every single new track released. Both Drake and Kendrick have already had songs debut in the top 20 of the Hot 100 with “Push-Ups” and “euphoria.” “euphoria” is even expected to compete for the very top spot on the chart next week. That’s even without mentioning “Not Like Us. “ The track is off to a hotter start than any of the songs that preceded it. Check out Freddie’s response and the reactions it garnered below.

Freddie Gibbs Thinks The Labels Won Drake-Kendrick Beef

Freddie isn’t completely alone in his speculation. Any time a substantial beef hits the world of hip-hop plenty of fans speculate that it could be faked. They claim that the virality of seeing some of the genre’s biggest voices attacking each other causes records to sell and money to be made.

What do you think of Freddie Gibbs take on who actually won the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef? Do you believe the theories that some rap beefs are fake and assembled by labels to sell records? Let us know in the comment section below.

Future Didn’t Drop The Mixtape He Teased And Fans Are Confused

Future’s work ethic is legendary. He dropped mixtapes every other month in the mid-2010s, and he just dropped two collab albums with Metro Boomin. You know, the ones that started the Drake and Kendrick Lamar battle. Pluto has thrown shots at the 6 God here and there, but it seemed like he was moving on from the battle to focus on new music. He got on X (formerly Twitter) and set the Freebanz fanbase on fire with two announcements. “May 10” and “Mixtape Pluto.” Even those who practice Foxy Brown math know what this meant: new mixtape on May 10.

Well, it turns out 2 and 2 didn’t make 4. The release date came, and there was no new tape. Instead, Future dropped a new single with Tee Grizzley titled “Swear to God.” The single absolutely slaps, with Future and Grizzley swapping bars over an animated trap beat. The confusion over there being a new mixtape stemmed from the chorus of “Swear to God.”

Future Quoted A Misleading Lyric From His New Single

Future warbles his way through different things he’ll swear to god over, but the takeaway line is: “F*ck your album, shit ain’t slapping like my mixtape.” The rapper tweeted this line a few days before the song dropped, which again made it seem like he had a whole tape ready to go.

It was good promo for “Swear to God,” but it was also a disappointing discovery for fans. Future hasn’t dropped a solo mixtape since Purple Reign in 2016, and a collab tape since Wrld on Drugs in 2018. He’s been in album mode for close to a decade, and fans wanted to hear what he sounded like with a grittier aesthetic. In Future’s defense, his delivery on the new song is definitely “mixtape Pluto” in terms of feel.

Fans Are Disappointed With Future’s Single Rollout

Fan reactions on X were mixed. Some were disappointed that they confused the rollout of a song with a whole tape. “Who tf convinced us that future was droppin a mixtape,” one user wrote. “After droppin back to back solo albums in less than a month.”

Others took a more frustrated approach, and claimed the rapper did a bad job of clarifying what was coming. “Future blew my Friday already,” they added. “Nobody wanted a weak single with Tee grizzley like what. We wanted a mixtape.”

Here are some more fan reactions to get you through the disappointment of having to wait on the next Future tape.

Benzino Admits He Doesn’t Talk To Daughter Coi Leray Anymore

Benzino’s career has been defined by difficult relationships. He rose to fame by picking a fight with Eminem in the 2000s, and the men continue to take shots at each other two decades later. The more tragic relationship, however, has been between Benzino and his daughter, Coi Leray. Leray has put together a successful rap career, but she’s been in a constant push-and-pull in terms of where she stands with her father. She recently claimed to have disowned Benzino after he made controversial comments about R Kelly.

Leray’s announcement was made via X (formerly Twitter) on May 1. She made it crystal clear that she will no longer have Benzino in her life. Fans may have interpreted the tweet as an impulsive response, but the latter confirmed it when he appeared on the We In Miami pod. Ironically, We In Miami is the same pod on which Benzino made his initial R Kelly comments.

Benzino Is Trying To Respect His Daughter’s Wishes

The host asked the former Source editor where he was at with his daughter, and he was brutally honest. “It’s unfortunate,” he noted. “But, you know, we don’t communicate too much. The whole thing is surreal to me… I’m a smart guy but I can’t figure this one out.” Benzino went on to interpret Leray’s side of the story, and posit a reason why she has decided to go silent. “Coi is a young lady, she independent,” he explained. This young generation, they don’t want their parents interfering with their lives man.”

Benzino’s account became even more heartbreaking when he revealed that he’s on the outs with some of his other kids as well. “I have to learn to adapt to that and respect that,” he added. “It just ain’t Coi, it’s a lot of my daughters. It’s hard for guys like me to have daughters and try to figure it out. Not the easiest thing.”

Benzino claimed that his closeness with Coi Leray was compromised when she became a popular rapper. “I was the hero,” he asserted. “My daughter looked up to me her whole life” Benzino told the host that he hopes it’s merely a phase, and that him and Leray are able to repair their relationship at some point in the future. Leray has meanwhile gotten attention for the wrong reasons on X. She recently tweeted that she was the female version of Lil Uzi Vert, and the hip-hop community let her know that wasn’t the case.

Ebro Divides Fans With The Claim That Drake And Toronto Don’t Have A Definitive Sound

Regional sounds have existed within hip-hop since the birth of the genre. While they were perhaps at their most clearly defined during the West Coast and East Coast battles of the 90s, they haven’t gone anywhere. The rise of southern rap later that decade set in motion a series of dominoes that led to contemporary trap styles. And the internet has allowed even more regional sounds to become identifiable to rap fans. And Ebro recently found himself in hot water when he weighed in on Toronto’s alleged lack of a regional sound while talking about the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef.

During a radio discussion about the beef he took some time to shift the focus a bit. He made comments about both Drake and the city he comes from not having a definitive regional sound. As you’d expect, that was met with very mixed reactions by fans. In the comments, they continue the debate. “Drake do have a sound though , it’s young money they forgot that” one fan suggests. “Drake is a rapper from TORONTO and nobody was checking for Toronto for rap until Drake showed up. So how is Drake supposed to have a regional identity in a place that no one was checking for rap music?” another fan suggests. Check out Ebro’s full comments and the fan debates below.

Ebro’s Drake Comments Lead To Fan Debate

Drake currently appears to be licking his wounds following a hostile beef with Kendrick Lamar. The two went back and forth for weeks resulting in some deeply personal disses. At the end of his most recent track “The Heart Part 6” Drake claims that he’s done with the beef. It’s yet to be seen if Kendrick has any response to the accusation that rumors he spread about Drake having a secret child were actually planted by Drake’s team.

What do you think of Ebro’s comments about Drake and Toronto lacking a definitive rap style? Do you agree with him that there isn’t anything recognizable about the cities rap output? Let us know in the comment section below.

ScHoolboy Q Claims That Rappers Are Just “Content Creators” Now

ScHoolboy Q has been busy recently. Back in March, he dropped his new album Blue Lips. The project came after a long break for the “Collard Greens” rapper. His previous record CrasH Talk dropped all the way back in 2019. While CrasH Talk was subject to quite a bit of scrutiny from both fans and critics, Blue Lips was met with much more praise. Since then, Q has been reminding fans how entertaining he can be by stopping by numerous podcasts and radio shows to discuss a huge variety of topics.

Unsurprisingly he’s spoken quite a bit on something he seems pretty qualified to comment on, rap music. During a recent show appearance, he repeated a claim he’s made before, that there’s still plenty of good music out there. But he also explained why it’s getting harder and harder to find it. “for the most part, it’s cooked because it’s turned to content… rappers are just content creators now,” Q says in the interview. In the replies, fans surprisingly disagree with him. “I get what he’s saying but you could literally say this about any industry right now. Roofers have YouTube channels, nobody thinks that’s cooked” one comment reads. “It’s always been content” another comment reads. Check out his comments and all the fan reactions to them below.

ScHoolboy Q Says Rappers Are Content Creators

ScHoolboy Q also plays a small role in the biggest rap story of the year, Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef. Recently it came out that he reportedly warned J. Cole to step out of the beef before Kendrick and Drake started firing on all cylinders. The claim also alleges that the warning came before Cole publicly apologized to Kendrick and took his own diss track down.

What do you think of ScHoolboy Q claiming that rappers have become content creators which makes finding good music harder? Do you agree with the fans that it’s actually always been that way? Let us know in the comment section below.

Jack Dorsey Confirms He’s Team Kendrick Lamar Amidst Drake Battle

Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar is the biggest rap battle of all time. Fans can argue for 2Pac vs. Biggie, or Jay vs. Nas, but the impact this current battle has had on popular culture is unprecedented. Those previous examples were relegated to fans of hip-hop, or fans of music at best. Now, celebrities are lining up to discuss which rapper they prefer. Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter, is no exception. The entrepreneur has been keeping tabs on the high-profile battle, and it appears as though he’s coming out as a Kendrick Lamar supporter.

There’s actually multiple pieces of evidence to support this claim. For one, the Twitter specialist dug back into Lamar’s account to find a tweet from 2011. The tweet was in reference to a concert the rapper was performing at. “June 16th,” he wrote. “Toronto. Grab tix here.” The concert was from Drake’s Club Paradise tour, in which Lamar was booked as one of the openers. It’s a throwback to a simpler time for both artists, and in some ways, the starting point for their dissent. Dorsey reposted Lamar’s tweet with a single heart emoji on May 3.

Jack Dorsey Has Been Reposting K. Dot Content On X

Fans were puzzled by this, as it was unclear whether Dorsey was co-signing Lamar over the 6 God, reminding fans that Drake helped Lamar break through, or evoking a period in which the rappers were getting along. The lack of clarification didn’t help. Dorsey provided followers with an answer over the next couple days, however.

He reposted a video of Lamar and Jay Rock performing the 2012 song “Money Trees” at a Best Buy. The video was accompanied by a caption commending Lamar for working hard to improve his performing skills. Then, on May 8, Dorsey posted a link to Lamar’s music video for “Rich Spirit.” The caption he wrote next to the link read: “turn him to a song.”

“Rich Spirit” was originally released in 2022. The song sees him navigate the pressure of celebrity, as well as the criticisms that fans had for him in the years leading up to Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. It doesn’t hurt that Dorsey has a personal connection to the album. The entrepreneur made a cameo in the rapper’s music video for another Mr. Morale deep cut, “Count Me Out.”

Meek Mill References Drake And Kendrick Lamar In Bizarre X Rant

Meek Mill is a success story. The rapper has had a great career by any reasonable measure. He’s got two gold albums, two platinum albums, and several top 40 singles. Outside of the music, though, Meek has had a rougher time. He lost a battle to Drake in 2015, served prison time in 2017, and has since become something of a walking meme. He was linked to the ongoing case involving Diddy, and responded to it with a social media rant that had fans thoroughly confused. Meek put his Twitter fingers to work again May 8, and the results were similarly confusing.

The Philly rapper went on a tear and decided to list of all his accomplishments. He patted himself on the back for accomplishments that were valid, and ones that were a bit exaggerated. “I gotta say it what I offered to the game everytime it can’t be minimized,” he wrote. “I’m starting to like these convos if we in the era of facts. I been in all the jungles lifting communities up for years. And my rap skills are incredible! Like really really good.” Meek then revealed that his PR situation has been shaky over the last few years, which actually explains quite a bit. “My pr has been off for a year or 2,” he added. “So they mutating my name but when I’m gone they will give it up! Ima just keep grinding!”

Meek Mill Claimed Drake And Dot Are Both “Great”

All good, right? A little scattered, but more or less on topic. Then, out of nowhere, Meek Mill decides to give his two cents on the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. Never mind the fact that the rapper was trying to hype himself up. Or the fact that an hour earlier, he explicitly tried to move away from the topic of the 6 God. “I give y’all my honest without speaking on Drake,” he wrote. He abandoned his game plan and decided to heap praise on both Drizzy and Kung Fu Kenny. “The boy and Kendrick have their own lanes and qualities they great at also,” Meek added.

This isn’t the first time Meek Mill has spoken on the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. He claimed he wanted to see Lamar and J. Cole make up right after Cole issued a public apology for his diss. He also gave his thumbs up to Lamar’s Drake diss, “Not Like Us.” He left a comment under the song on IG. “I’ve never been excited for a rap battle but this got me looking,” he wrote. A bizarre comment, given that Meek literally battled Lamar’s opponent a decade ago, but a compliment nonetheless.

Joe Budden And His Co-Hosts Sing R. Kelly While Reacting To New Drake Song

Reactions to the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef have come in a variety of ways. Some have tried to analyze who landed more punches and came away looking better. Additionally others have taken a more analytical approach trying to find out which of both rapper’s claims can actually be proven. Members of the hip-hop media space like Joe Budden have been doing a combination of both. He’s called together numerous emergency podcasts to break songs down line by line. They also discuss the overall standing of the war between the two artists.

During a recent episode Budden and his co-hosts reacted to the most recent addition to the viral beef. Drake dropped “The Heart Part 6” over the weekend. In the song he claims that the viral story Kendrick spread about him having a secret 12-year-old daughter was actually planted and didn’t have any real evidence. He also defends himself against the allegations that he’s attracted to underage girls, though how good of a job he does has been up for massive debate online. Subsequently, Budden and company seemed to pretty firmly state their takes on whether or not he pulls it off with their immediate reaction to the song. Check out what they had to say below.

Joe Budden Sings R. Kelly While Reacting To Drake Song

After hearing one particular bar on the song where Drake promises that if he had been acting inappropriately to underage girls he would have been caught by now. Budden and company clearly weren’t a fan of that line of thinking. In fact, they went as far as to reference a notorious R Kelly incident where he sang an improvised invitation to a crowd of fans overseas. The comparison speaks volumes about how little they’re convinced by Drake’s denial.

What do you think of Joe Budden and his co-hosts singing a notorious R. Kelly song while reacting to Drake’s newest diss track? Do you think Drake did a good enough job defending himself against Kendrick’s allegations? Let us know in the comment section below.
