Metro Boomin Performs At VMAs, Teases Future Project, And Pays Tribute To His Mother

Metro Boomin is on an unprecedented winning streak right now. After taking over the backend of 2022 with the release of his incredible HEROES & VILLAINS tape, it seems like there is nothing that is going to get in the way of Metro’s dominance. He swung into the recording booth to produce the soundtrack for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film. Now, we have two of the most-anticipated releases maybe of the past five years, with his two collaboration projects. One of those is his project with Future, which has been teased relentlessly up until this point. We got more confirmation at the VMAs last night.

According to Fader, right before Future joined Metro Boomin on stage to perform their hit, “Superhero (Heroes & Villains),” the producer gave the crowd another update. “MTV VMA 2023 what we doin? Me and Pluto album on the way,” Metrooo shouted out to the crowd. He hovered about the stage behind the DJ booth, as the Atlanta trap rap superstar spit his verses. Then, right before the beat switch on “Superhero,” Future exited stage left so three other artists could take the stage.

Metro Boomin And More Perform “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” And “Calling” At VMAs: Watch

The hit song “Calling” from the Spider-Verse album was up next. Swae Lee, followed by NAV, and then A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, came together to put on a laid-back show for the fans. The phone flashlights were waving in the crowd as all three put in a nice performance. It was touching and low-key, but there was a reason both of these songs were chosen by Metro. Uproxx got word that he was paying tribute to his late mother, Leslie Wayne.

What are your initial thoughts on Metro Boomin’s performances of “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” and “Calling” at the 2023 MTV VMAs? Which song was put on better? Are you still excited for his and Future’s collab album? We want to hear what you have to say about all of this. The post comes after B.G. finally got out of prison, earlier this month, after serving over a decade behind bars for weapons and witness tampering charges. In another post on September 3, he reflected on his perspective of seeing the outside for the first time. He wrote: “The main focus, is to stay focused. I’m not letting nobody rob me of my productivity, prosperity, positivity and peace of mind. My dreams then got bigger and my vision is clearer. 13 years was more then enough time for me to change the reckless path I was on. I’m getting back in the 100MillionDolla race, and my big homie gave me the route. #RNS”

Tory Lanez’s “Alone At Prom” Album Inspiration, Alexa, Gets Touching Tribute From Singer After Death

Being behind bars is hard enough, but knowing that life is continuing on without you for those you love on the outside only adds an extra layer of anxiety for many of those serving time. Besides missing out on major milestones, prisoners also bypass many tragedies, such as illness and funerals. Less than a year into his sentence, Tory Lanez is learning this the hard way as he says goodbye to a recently deceased friend via Instagram.

On Thursday (September 7), the father of one’s profile lit up with a message dedicated to a woman named Alexa, who was a muse for Lanez’s 2021 Alone At Prom album. It’s unclear exactly how, or when she died, though the R&B artist had nothing but beautiful things to say about their relationship. “ALEXA… A close friend to me and so many, a beautiful soul and the muse that revolutionized ‘Alone At Prom,’” he penned from his cell.

Tory Lanez’s Past Muse Tragically Loses Her Life

“We laughed, we worked, we partied, and we shared many deep conversations and moments together,” Lanez reflected. “I should have been there to stop this from happening 😔. It hurts more that I was not able to say my final goodbyes at your Ceremony of Life, but I promise to make your legacy live on. You meant so much to so many of us 🤍. May your imprint be stamped on the world forever as you Rest in Paradise.” In the heartfelt caption’s accompanying photo dump, the 31-year-old shared some of his favourite memories with Alexa, including the time they spent on set filming visuals together.

Interestingly, Tory Lanez’s heartfelt tribute to his fallen friend surfaced online around the same time we heard about the plea deal he reportedly refused. Apparently, the Canadian was offered an opportunity that would see him spending only four years in prison, rather than 10, but he wasn’t interested. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

FYB J Mane Flexes New FBG Duck Tribute Tattoo

FYB J Mane recently hopped on social media to show off his new tattoo. The rapper flexed the new back ink, revealing that it’s a tribute to the late FBG Duck. The Chicago-born performer is seen smoking a blunt in the tattoo, alongside a couple other tributes to fallen friends.

FBG Duck passed away in August of 2020, after being shot multiple times in broad daylight outside of a store on the Gold Coast. Following the rapper’s death, it was revealed that he allegedly had “price on his head” leading up to his passing. According to claims made by FBI informants, the bounty was allegedly placed by King Von at $50K and eventually raised to $100K. The unfortunate shooting also left his girlfriend and another associate injured. Various suspects were charged in the murder, which was reportedly the result of a gang rivalry.

FYB J Mane’s New FBG Duck Ink

Last month, fellow Chicago rapper Lil Durk’s name was once again brought into the conversation surrounding FBG Duck’s death. Social media users brought attention to the case files of an FBI informant, which appeared to include a mention of the performer. In May of this year, FBG Duck’s mother Lasheena Weekly also took to Instagram to give Durk a shoutout.

“As a mother that’s lost her son to this senseless war that’s divided Chicago,” she began. “I’m proud to see that you are taking steps to bring our city together and stop the violence.” Weekly continued, “You met with [new Mayor Brandon Johnson], now I’m asking that you meet with me and the @MothersOfPeace to take further steps to unite our city.” It’s unconfirmed exactly how Durk could be connected to the murder case. It’s clear, however, that it’s probably the last thing he wants to be tied to. Keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on FYB J Mane and FBG Duck.

Ariana Grande Pays Tribute To Mac Miller On “Yours Truly” Deluxe

Ariana Grande went out of her way to give a subtle tribute to her late ex Mac Miller on her newly-released deluxe of Yours Truly. The tribute came during the video for the remaster of their collab “The Way”. At the end of the video, the screen reads “Feat. Mac Miller”. Additionally, a string instrument replaces Miller’s second verse on the track. “The Way” proved to be Grande’s breakout single when she began her solo career a decade ago.

The release of the deluxe marks the 10th anniversary of the album, Grande’s solo debut. Yours Truly peaked at #1 and is certified platinum. The album marked her move away from being the Nickelodeon star she was better known as up to that point. Alongside the remaster of “The Way”, the deluxe also includes live performances of “Baby I”, “Right There”, “Honeymoon Avenue”, “Daydreamin”, and “Tattooed Heart”. Additionally, Grande promised to drop some behind-the-scenes content on August 30.

Ariana’s Ex-Husband Seen Out And About

Meanwhile, a dejected Dalton Gomez was spotted for the first time since reports broke about his split from Grande. He was spotted without his ring while hanging out with some friends in West Hollywood. It’s unclear what caused the couple to split a little after two years of marriage. However, Grande caught some major flak for being a “homewrecker” in the wake of it.

That’s because Grande was quickly reported to be dating her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater. While Slater has since confirmed that he is also seeking a divorce in his own marriage, his soon-to-be ex-wife appears to be claiming that Grande is the reason for the split. It’s believed that the two began an affair while performing together on Broadway. But if that wasn’t enough drama, Ariana is also reportedly trying to get out of her contract with mega-agent Scooter Braun. Once the most powerful manager in the music industry, Braun has been losing clients left and right in recent weeks.

Quando Rondo Pays Tribute To Lul Pab On His Death’s Anniversary

Quando Rondo has his fair share of rap beefs, but unfortunately, he suffered a lot of loss in his life that paints them with a darker context. Moreover, he lost his friend Lul Pab to gun violence exactly a year ago, and he took to his Instagram Story to reflect on this tragedy. “Today makes a year,” the 24-year-old wrote, captioning a post from his fallen comrade. “It done been so many tears rip big brah.” For those unaware, they were the victims of an August 2022 shooting that allegedly targeted Quando.

What’s more saddening about this situation is that Quando Rondo continues to grapple with loss to this day. Recently, he paid tribute to another friend that passed away, and this grief has made him reflect on the violent themes both in his music and his public feuds. For example, the Savannah, Georgia native recently expressed regret over making his personal life so public, resulting in a blurry line to cross. In addition, he also spoke about “laying his flag down” and severing some of his criminal ties to mourn more healthily.

Diddy Honors Clarence Avant In New Instagram Post “Definition Of Leading By Example”

Earlier this week Clarence Avant, often called “The Godfather of Black Entertainment” passed away at age 92. Dozens of celebrities across every medium paid tribute to him for the influence he had over their careers. Now another tribute has been posted to Instagram by none other than Diddy. He shares two pictures of himself and Avant together with the first one also including Jay-Z. But it’s in the caption where he really pours out his feelings.

“Clarence Avant was the definition of a free, fearless Black man. He never allowed any level of adversity or limitation stop him from paving his own path and advocating for Black creators to be valued and respected at the highest level,” Diddy’s caption begins. “He was a very successful record executive, entrepreneur and dealmaker. But more importantly, he was the most trusted and reliable relationship anyone could have. There wasn’t a problem he couldn’t solve, an answer he couldn’t find, or a resource he wasn’t willing to share,” he continues. Diddy is just one of many to pay tribute to Avant after his passing.

Diddy Pens Beautiful Message To Clarence Avant

“Clarence Avant always answered the call. We will forever honor his legacy, cherish the memories, and continue to remind the world of his story,” Diddy’s statement concludes. Earlier this year he launched a new digital marketplace for black owned business. “Empower Global” allowed vendors to list their products online and users to shop directly from a collection of a variety of black businesses.

Earlier this year Billboard made a list of the best executives in rap music and unsurprisingly, Diddy made the cut. He was featured on the list alongside Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre, Easy-E, and more. Despite some recent blunders he’s had with trying to start a cannabis business and separating from the Spirits corporation who used to house his own alcohol brands, he’s still one of music’s most successful moguls. What do you think of Diddy’s message to Clarence Avant? Let us know in the comment section below.
