Offset Reveals Why He Hasn’t Put Out Takeoff Tribute

Offset’s new GQ interview covers a lot: the process behind his new album Set It Off, taking inspiration from Tyler, The Creator, and so much more. However, one crucial and very revealing part of the conversation regards the tragic loss of his Migos partner, Takeoff. Moreover, the Georgia trap icon explained why he hasn’t yet released a full tribute track or any form of music or content dedicated to Take. His words ring especially true in a time in which fans want music like this to not only resonate emotionally, but perform commercially.

This pressure, plus the vibes that ‘Set went for on Set It Off, went at odds with the heart and message he wants to put into his art to cathartically and respectfully pay homage to his fallen friend. “It’s way more fun,” Offset remarked about his project. “I didn’t want to talk about tragedy. Talk about… I ain’t ready to talk about that s**t yet, first and foremost. I don’t know how to do it, but I didn’t want to just be making an album about bad s**t and dissing and putting that type of energy on the project. It was going to make my mind be in a different place.

“The world is not ready for it. Because [everyone] is so judgmental,” Offset continued. “They want you to make a song pouring your heart out that’s a hit. There is a song on there that’s kind of expressing that s**t, though, which is ‘Upside Down.’ It’s feeling confident I’m going to go up with the music, but I’m down every day. It’s the challenge of trying to be the best at your worst times.”

Meanwhile, this adds to other small tidbits and insights into the 31-year-old’s career and evolution over the years. Another shocking, interesting, and frankly disagreeable revelation was that he originally hated “Ric Flair Drip.” All we can hope for is that the effort put into a Takeoff tribute is healing and resonant, regardless of what fans may expect or what metrics they may use to judge it. On that note, stay logged into HNHH for the latest news and updates on Offset.

Young Dolph’s “Dolph Day” Heading To Multiple Cities To Honor Rapper’s Memory

Today (Friday, November 17) marks the two-year anniversary of Young Dolph’s tragic murder in his home city of Memphis. Moreover, his family, friends, collaborators, industry peers, community cohorts, and fans from all over the world poured their tributes out online. As saddening as this is, folks also took it upon themselves to celebrate the rapper’s legacy, give back to his community, and preserve his impact within his circles and beyond. As such, the “Dolph Day” weekend event on this occasion expanded to multiple cities outside of Memphis, namely Chicago, Atlanta, and Dallas.

Furthermore, these community activities consisted of turkey giveaways, basketball tournaments, restaurant partnerships, hygiene kit giveaways, holiday dinners, and more. Many of Young Dolph’s Paper Route Empire (PRE) label roster will participate in these, as well as plenty of other local rappers, businesspeople, community leaders, and the like. Also, this follows November 17 becoming the Adolf “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr. Day of Service in Tennessee and Georgia. In collaboration with PRE, his family’s estate- the Ida Mae Foundation- handled all of this planning and execution to make sure that this year’s Dolph Day was something special.

Young Dolph’s “Dolph Day” Expands

Events like these help many mournful individuals, be they famous or not, focus on the positives that Young Dolph left behind, as much as his absence is a painful reality. “Landing in Memphis and not reaching out to my potna to get the fire is cr*zy man,” Curren$y somberly shared on Twitter back in October. “Long live flipper,” he concluded with a dolphin emoji. However, Dolph Day is an opportunity for folks to engage with their grief, give their respects, and share love, generosity, and humanity with each other in ways that much of rap music is unrightfully blocked from by media saturation, economic interests in perpetuating beef, and exploitation.

Meanwhile, this is taking place as the late MC’s legal case continues to develop concerning his alleged murderers. Hopefully, that case also provides some closure and justice for his family. With the heartening and strong impact that Dolph Day yields in 2023, we can only hope that we continue to honor this legacy for years to come. For more news and the latest updates on Young Dolph- may he Rest In Peace- log back into HNHH.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Pays Tribute To PnB Rock In Late Rapper’s Home State

A Boogie opened his recent show at Penn State with a moving dedication. “This was our brother’s home state. We do this for our brother, our friend, rest in peace, PnB Rock.” The show was Boogie’s 40th sold-out show of the year. The Nittany Lion crowd went wild at the dedication before Boogie got into his set. As mentioned, Boogie has proven extremely popular this year and basically sells out every venue he plays at.

PnB Rock was killed in Los Angeles last year. He was robbed and fatally shot outside Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles in South LA. A 17-year-old and his father were charged with the murder. They are yet to face trial on charges of first-degree murder and second-degree robbery. As mentioned by Boogie, Rock was originally born in Pennsylvania. He was born in Philadelphia in 1991. What do you think of Boogie’s dedication? Let us know in the comments.

Kai Cenat To Direct Video For A Boogie

Elsewhere, it was recently reported that Boogie had enlisted the services of Kai Cenat to direct an upcoming music video. Cenat showed off some behind-the-scenes footage from the set. It’s unknown when the video will be out or for what song it is for. It’s another major win for the ever-popular streamer, who recently released his directorial debut with the short film Global Pursuit. It shows the continued rise of Cenat, who also recently did a 24-hour livestream with Offset.

Meanwhile, Boogie recently stirred a little controversy when he put himself in the highest echelons of the New York rap scene. Speaking with Rolling Stone, Boogie laid out his “Mount Rushmore” of New York musicians. He chose himself, Jay-Z, Cardi B, and 50 Cent. He got a fair amount of backlash, with people trying to check his ego. Despite the criticism, he was undeterred and doubled down on his comments. Follow HotNewHipHop for all the latest music news.

Metro Boomin Performs At VMAs, Teases Future Project, And Pays Tribute To His Mother

Metro Boomin is on an unprecedented winning streak right now. After taking over the backend of 2022 with the release of his incredible HEROES & VILLAINS tape, it seems like there is nothing that is going to get in the way of Metro’s dominance. He swung into the recording booth to produce the soundtrack for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film. Now, we have two of the most-anticipated releases maybe of the past five years, with his two collaboration projects. One of those is his project with Future, which has been teased relentlessly up until this point. We got more confirmation at the VMAs last night.

According to Fader, right before Future joined Metro Boomin on stage to perform their hit, “Superhero (Heroes & Villains),” the producer gave the crowd another update. “MTV VMA 2023 what we doin? Me and Pluto album on the way,” Metrooo shouted out to the crowd. He hovered about the stage behind the DJ booth, as the Atlanta trap rap superstar spit his verses. Then, right before the beat switch on “Superhero,” Future exited stage left so three other artists could take the stage.

Metro Boomin And More Perform “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” And “Calling” At VMAs: Watch

The hit song “Calling” from the Spider-Verse album was up next. Swae Lee, followed by NAV, and then A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, came together to put on a laid-back show for the fans. The phone flashlights were waving in the crowd as all three put in a nice performance. It was touching and low-key, but there was a reason both of these songs were chosen by Metro. Uproxx got word that he was paying tribute to his late mother, Leslie Wayne.

What are your initial thoughts on Metro Boomin’s performances of “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” and “Calling” at the 2023 MTV VMAs? Which song was put on better? I’m not letting nobody rob me of my productivity, prosperity, positivity and peace of mind. My dreams then got bigger and my vision is clearer. 13 years was more then enough time for me to change the reckless path I was on. Tory Lanez’s “Alone At Prom” Album Inspiration, Alexa, Gets Touching Tribute From Singer After Death

Being behind bars is hard enough, but knowing that life is continuing on without you for those you love on the outside only adds an extra layer of anxiety for many of those serving time. Besides missing out on major milestones, prisoners also bypass many tragedies, such as illness and funerals. Less than a year into his sentence, Tory Lanez is learning this the hard way as he says goodbye to a recently deceased friend via Instagram.

On Thursday (September 7), the father of one’s profile lit up with a message dedicated to a woman named Alexa, who was a muse for Lanez’s 2021 Alone At Prom album. It’s unclear exactly how, or when she died, though the R&B artist had nothing but beautiful things to say about their relationship. “ALEXA… A close friend to me and so many, a beautiful soul and the muse that revolutionized ‘Alone At Prom,’” he penned from his cell.

Tory Lanez’s Past Muse Tragically Loses Her Life

“We laughed, we worked, we partied, and we shared many deep conversations and moments together,” Lanez reflected. “I should have been there to stop this from happening 😔. It hurts more that I was not able to say my final goodbyes at your Ceremony of Life, but I promise to make your legacy live on. You meant so much to so many of us 🤍. May your imprint be stamped on the world forever as you Rest in Paradise.” In the heartfelt caption’s accompanying photo dump, the 31-year-old shared some of his favourite memories with Alexa, including the time they spent on set filming visuals together.

Interestingly, Tory Lanez’s heartfelt tribute to his fallen friend surfaced online around the same time we heard about the plea deal he reportedly refused. Apparently, the Canadian was offered an opportunity that would see him spending only four years in prison, rather than 10, but he wasn’t interested. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
