Ne-Yo Clarifies Comments About Trans Children

Earlier this week, Ne-Yo came under fire for comments he made about parents who allowed their children to transition as minors. “I have no issue with the [LGBTQIA+] community, I have no problem with nobody. Love who you love. Do what you do. I just personally come from an era where a man was a man, and a woman was a woman, and there wasn’t but two genders, and that’s just how it rocked. Now, you could identify as a goldfish if you feel like. I don’t care. That ain’t my business. It becomes my business when you try to make me to play the game with you. I’m not going to call you a goldfish. You want to be a goldfish? Go be a goldfish. We live in a weird time, man,” the rapper said on a VladTV podcast.

Ne-Yo’s point really boils down to “I don’t have an issue with trans people, but I don’t respect their decision and don’t abide by it.” What appeared to further rile up trans advocates was the use of the debunked and transphobic talking point about “children identifying as animals”. No verifiable study has shown an actual phenomenon of children identifying as animals as their gender. While it’s certainly not the worst anti-trans take out there, it’s still fairly ignorant. He conflates sex with gender, starting there are two genders when referring men and women. Furthermore, it’s unusual that man who goes by Ne-Yo despite being born Shaffer Chimere Smith, has an issue with people wanting to be identified a different way to how they were born. After the comments appeared on Hollywood Unlocked, Ne-Yo took to the comments section to add a clarification.

Ne-Yo Hits Back, Doubles Down

“1st and foremost, I CONDEMN NO ONE. Who am I to condemn anybody? Your life, your kids, your choice. I was asked a question and I answered it. My opinion is mine. I’m not asking anybody to agree with me nor am I telling you what you can and cannot do with your children. I stated my opinion on a matter and that’s that.
Why should I care if my opinion upsets you when you don’t care if yours upsets anyone? Opinions aren’t special. We all have one. People voice them regularly whether they’re asked or not. I was actually asked mine. Agreeing to disagree is not a declaration of war. Y’all do whatever the hell y’all want to. But my feelings on the matter are mine. Same way yours are yours. Meanwhile,
I love everybody. Don’t agree with some of y’all’s ideals….but love you no less,” Ne-Yo wrote in the comments.

Again, it’s the same idea as he previously stated. He has a right to his opinion and he disagrees with the idea of children transitioning at a young age. Of course, his opinion is based on incorrect assumptions about the trans community, which is why he was called out in the first place. It’s very telling that Ne-Yo plays the cis victim card, asking “Why should I care if my opinion upsets you when you don’t care if yours upsets anyone?” Firstly, being trans is not an opinion. Not liking trans people is an opinion. But being trans, or gender non-conforming is not an opinion. But regardless, Ne-Yo has expressed his opinion while pulling the classic “I love all people, despite being opposed to your existence and not loving you enough to show you basic respect.”

Lance Armstrong Roasted For Questioning The “Fairness” Of Trans Athletes

Lance Armstrong was once the greatest cyclist on the planet. When he won the Tour de France in 1999, he was the first American in nearly a decade to win the race. Then he proceeded to win the next six races in a row. That made him the most dominant rider in the race’s history. However, it all came crashing down when, in 2012, he admitted to prolonged and prolific steroid use throughout his career. His titles were stripped and now he is considered a dark stain on the sport’s history.

Meanwhile, the war against transgender individuals in the United States continues. Per the Trans Legislation Tracker, 590 anti-trans bills have been submitted to 49 state legislatures (shout out to Delaware). These bills fundamentally seek to erase trans people, be it physically or societally. Furthermore, the right wing especially is obsessed with is the issue of trans athletes. Despite victories by trans athletes being so rare that each one warrants its own news cycle, there are those who believe that they are the biggest problem facing women’s sports. It appears that Armstrong is one of these people.

Armstrong Comments On The “Fairness” Of Trans Athletes

In a stunning lack of self-awareness, Armstrong was just “asking questions” about trans athletes. “Is there not a world in which one can be supportive of the transgender community and curious about the fairness of Trans athletes in sport yet not be labeled a transphobe or a bigot as we ask questions? Do we yet know the answers? And do we even want to know the answers?” Once again, for clarification – the success of trans athletes is so minimal that it is essentially insignificant.

However, it was surprising that Armstrong wanted to talk about fairness. After all, it wasn’t a trans athlete who was stripped of 7 Tour de France medals due to rampant cheating. It’s weird that when people are just trying to be themselves, that’s when Armstrong cares about fairness. Social media was in agreement, absolutely roasting Armstrong for the tone-deaf take. Armstrong, predictably, responded by decrying that the art of debate was dead and that “you can’t ask questions anymore”. Follow all the latest sports news here on HotNewHipHop.

Lil Wop Shares More OnlyFans Promo Pics After Announcing Transition

Lil Wop, who blew up as part of the SoundCloud rap generation around 2016, recently shared that they are transitioning. As part of that journey (and slightly before the announcement), the 27-year-old heavily promoted their OnlyFans account. Moreover, in the days since the transition announcement, they’ve shared a couple more sultry snaps on Instagram that lead back to the subscription platform. “Come Suck A B***h Toes,” one of their captions read. Furthermore, the other two posts have “Can I be your gamer girl daddy?” and “Bad lil b***h & she ebony” as their captions.

I’m Bisexual I like Guys & Girls,” Lil Wop shared on social media back in 2022. During that time, the revelation left many fans confused, and then further divided into camps of support and unfortunate ridicule. “I’m not hacked s**t I’m gay idgaf what anybody think [for real].” Then, they told Say Cheese a little more about their taste during an interview. “Don’t get me wrong, I ain’t out here sucking no d**k or getting f***ed in the a** or no s**t like that… but I’ll make a n***a my b***h. I’m masculine, so I’m a motherf***ing king… I like power.

“I ain’t soft, sweet, or [any] of that s**t,” Lil Wop went on. “I just wanted to put that out to the world. If y’all like me… and you’re a feminine guy or a trans– it’s whatever. It’s love… I want all the love. I’ve had clout my whole life, I ain’t ever gone do no goofy s**t for no clout. I told the Internet, so that’s when the whole world found out.” In other news from the Chicago-born MC, they had a disheartening issue with their label, Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records, as their more sexual content took center stage.

“I’m Not Signed To 1017,” they revealed in a tweet. “I Got Out My Contract With Them In 2018. And I Don’t F**k With Gucci Mane He’s A Weirdo!” Regardless of what could be going on behind the scenes when it comes to their music career, hopefully they feel more fulfilled and satisfied with their current endeavors despite the hate. Brittney Griner Defends Inclusion Of Trans Athletes

The debate around transgender athletes is a fierce and unpleasant one. Pro-trans supporters point to the stringent qualification regulations imposed by sporting authorities. They also argue that we should treat people with respect and dignity, not call them groomers or similar. Those on the opposite side of the issue largely rely on their belief that transgender individuals are simply pretending to be the opposite gender to one they were assigned at birth. They claim “men” have a biological advantage over “women” and that transgender women make it unfair to “real women”.

Anti-trans advocates point to the likes of former NCAA swimmer Lia Thomas. Thomas became the first transgender athlete to win an NCAA title. In 2022, she won the women’s 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA National Swimming Championships. In response, pro-trans defenders point to literally every other race and event where a cisgender person beat a transgender person. Furthermore, the issue recently made headlines once again. The House of Representatives passed a bill that would ban transgender athletes from competing at any educational institution that received federal funding.

Brittney Griner Calls Trans Exclusion “A Crime”

WNBA veteran Brittney Griner spoke to the media on Friday as part of the Phoenix Mercury’s training camp. The press conference was also part of a launch of a campaign between the Mercury and the Bring Our Families Home campaign. Bring Our Families Home seeks to help free American political prisoners held overseas. Griner was recently freed after spending nine months in a Russian jail on drug charges. Furthermore, her imprisonment, which occurred days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, was widely seen as a political detention.

Griner, who is a cisgender woman, has long been an advocate for the rights of transgender athletes. When asked about the recently passed House bill, Griner said that she “definitely will be speaking up against that legislation and that [trans ban] law expected to be passed.” Continuing, Griner said “Everyone deserves the right to play. I think it’s a crime to separate someone for any reason.” While not segregated because of her gender, Griner has experience on what it is like to be yourself. Identifying as lesbian, Griner was reportedly told by her college coach Kim Mulkey to not be openly gay while on her Baylor Bears squad.

Dwyane Wade Moved Out Of Florida For Trans Daughter

Dwayne Wade may have made his name in Florida, but he is no longer living there. The athlete has said that his family would not feel welcome in the state. Wade, who is the father of a transgender daughter, has stated that he no longer lives in Florida due to what he perceives as restrictive policies. More specifically, he and his family left due to policies that violate the rights of LGBTQ residents. As a father, Wade says he must think of his family.

As many know, Florida has become a hotspot for the battleground between conservatives and liberals on the subject of LGBTQ rights. The state’s governor, Ron DeSantis, and many state-level lawmakers have passed controversial legislation regarding the community. Perhaps most notably, they passed the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill. In response to this, Wade says in no uncertain terms that his family wouldn’t be comfortable there.

In an interview with Rachel Nichols on her show Headliners, 41-year-old Wade, a former basketball player, confirmed that he is no longer a resident of Florida. “You know, obviously, the taxes [are] great. Having Wade County is great. But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And, so that’s one of the reasons why I don’t live there,” Dwyane said in the interview. Clearly, family is far more important to the former basketball player than fame. He continued, telling Nichols, “I have to make decisions for my family, not just personal, individual decisions.”

In 2020, Wade’s daughter Zaya came out as transgender. Since then, she has legally changed her name and gender. Luckily, her father has been an outspoken advocate on her behalf. Even given the fact that Wade played 15 seasons of basketball in Miami, he felt it best to leave. The Wades aren’t alone, either. Many families, both celebrity and otherwise, have made the move from the sunshine state. It would appear that many feel the new anti-LGBTQ policies violate their rights and the rights of their loved ones. Whether or not this will have any effect on the policies remains to be seen. What do you think of Wade’s decision to leave for his daughter’s sake? Let us know in the comments!

Caitlyn Jenner Blasts Nike For Using Trans TikToker Dylan Mulvaney As Brand Promoter

Caitlyn Jenner just slammed Nike for bringing on trans TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney as a brand partner. Moreover, she took to Twitter to express her critiques and her “outrage” over the social media influencer promoting the brand’s sports bras. Mulvaney posted a series of videos and photos modeling Nike’s products on her socials. While she hasn’t undergone gender reassignment surgery yet, she identifies as a woman and uses she/they pronouns. In the past, Jenner’s been vocal about her opposition to trans females competing in female sports. With her latest series of tweets, however, she admitted to engaging in similar practices.

“As someone that grew up in awe of what [former Nike CEO and foudner] Phil Knight did, it is a shame to see such an iconic American company go so woke!” she tweeted. “We can be inclusive but not at the expense of the mass majority of people, and have some decency while being inclusive. This is an outrage. A little context…I did a collab with H&M (I have done many athletic brand collabs over the years as a successful athlete). I don’t blame Dylan (smart move).

Caitlyn Jenner Slams Nike

“I did not like how Nike treated Allyson Felix when she became pregnant,” she continued. “I spoke on the outrage of disparity in their pay. EQUALITY > INCLUSIVITY (STOP TRYING TO ERASE WOMEN). The differences between men and women are real and are a good thing! It doesn’t make trans ppl a bad thing, either. Why is it so black and white with the RADICAL RAINBOW MAFIA?!”

However, Nike doubled down on their decision in a statement, saying they’d delete online comments engaging in bigoted rhetoric. “You are an essential component to the success of your community. We welcome comments that contribute to a positive and constructive discussion. Be kind. Be inclusive. Encourage each other. Hate speech, bullying, or other behaviors that are not in the spirit of a diverse and inclusive community will be deleted.” While different sides give their takes, people clearly find this to be a much more complicated issue than it may seem at face value- no matter what side they’re on. Regardless, stick around on HNHH for the latest big updates on Caitlyn Jenner.

Lizzo Is Furious About Anti-Transgender Hate Spewed Online And She Went On An Epic Twitter Rant To Express Why

Lizzo has used her platform to bring attention to several social issues both in her music and on social media. From racism, women’s rights, and fatphobia, the Grammy Award winner has even received suggestions to run for political office in the future from music legend Stevie Nicks.

In Tennessee, elected officials passed two pieces of anti-LGBTQIA+ bills (Senate Bill 3 and House Bill 9) that effectively bans all drag performances from taking place on any public property in the state. Across the country, several other states are looking to overturn pro-LGBTQIA+ bills directly related to transgendered people, and Lizzo has had enough. The singer took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the matter in an epic rant.

The musician opened the series of tweets today (March 8) by writing, “Transphobia is lookin’ real rooted in racism right about now.”

Lizzo continued the message with, “I’ve never heard a person say why they’re racist or fatphobic. I’ve never heard a reason why someone is transphobic. I think if we knew ‘why’ these people felt this way, there would be way less support for these ideals. Because the ‘why’ is more insidious than we realize.”

But Lizzo quoted tweeted the above tweet to add further context, writing, “Don’t get it twisted — I don’t care why people are bigoted. That’s a waste of my imagination. I feel like there’s a lot of complicit silence and apathetic participation going on that wouldn’t fly if people knew more.”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
