Tony Rock Calls Cap to Will’s Attempt to Apologize

According to Tony Rock, Chris Rock’s brother, Will Smith’s public statement that he intends to repair his relationship with Chris is all fake.

Shortly following the “slap that was heard all around the world” after last year’s Oscars, Will reportedly “reached out to Chris and the response that Will received was that he’s not ready to talk.  In a video that Will released, his exact words were, “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that, he’s not ready to talk. When he is, he will reach out. I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you,” said Smith.

“My behavior was unacceptable, and I am here whenever you are ready to talk. I want to apologize to Chris’s mother. I saw an interview [she] did, and that was one of the things I just didn’t realize. I wasn’t thinking, but how many people got hurt in that moment.”

Tony alleges that this is completely untrue, and his brother was indeed ready to talk. Tony went on to say that both he and his brother considered Will to be family and that his actions were extremely disappointing.

During Tony’s interview as a guest on Big Boy’s Neighborhood, he stated, if Smith genuinely wanted to make amends, he knows how to reach him. “My phone number has never changed. So, I just thought I’d get a phone call one day like, ‘Ay, let’s just you and I just talk.’ It hasn’t happened, so I guess it’s not going to happen.” O

n Twitter, Tony expressed the following, “My thoughts? All the crumbs and losers on social media repeatedly said it had nothing to do with me and I should be quiet or stay out of it,” he wrote, “Others said I (who’s been making lots of money since 1999) was commenting in an attempt to gain notoriety.”

Weeks following “the slap,” Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was ultimately banned from attending Academy events for a decade.

Tony Rock Says Will Smith Lied, Never Reached Out To Brother Chris Rock

If there is one thing Tony Rock will do, it’s defend his brother, Chris Rock. The pair not only share DNA but are both accomplished actors in the industry. They consistently tour and can be found performing standup from coast to coast, and each has decades of success. So, it came as no surprise that when Will Smith slapped Chris on the Academy Awards stage last year, Tony would be his champion defender.

The Rock brothers have separately worked with Smith. Tony starred in the 2000s series All of Us, executive produced by Will and his wife Jada. He knows the couple well and spoke about his brother’s plight with the Smiths while visiting Big Boy’s Neighborhood. There, Tony refuted rumors that Smith reached out to Chris to make amends. “That wasn’t true, that wasn’t true,” he said on the radio show. “I think like, two nights later, he said, ‘I reached out to Chris, and he didn’t want to talk.’ That wasn’t true.”

Tony Rock Still Isn’t Happy With His Former Friend

Smith has delivered several public apologies to Chris Rock, but the acknowledgment doesn’t seem to be enough. “He doesn’t owe me anything, I just thought we were better than that,” said Tony. “My phone number has never changed. So, I just thought I’d get a phone call one day like, ‘Ay, let’s just you and I just talk.’ It hasn’t happened, so I guess it’s not going to happen.”

This is a much more subtle reaction than Tony Rock’s previous responses. In prior interviews, he unleashed on the Smiths, especially Jada. Because the Oscars moment seemed to stem from Chris’s joke about her bald head, Tony followed suit. Much like Chris’s scathing takes in Selective Outrage, Tony has also referred to Jada as a “b*tch” and faulted her for the infamous moment. Additionally, last July, Tony suggested Smith became frustrated because Jada continued to emasculate him with mentions of her friendship with Tupac Shakur. Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Kevin Hart also addressed the rift between Chris and Will. He hopes that the controversy dies down and the pair reunite. Watch more from Tony Rock above.

Last week Chris Rock’s brother Tony Rock came to Chris’s defense after he was slapped by Will Smith at the Academy Awards for disrespecting Jada Pinkett-Smith.

After watching the world go through a phase of ‘protect the black woman’ it was interesting to see the response after a man well…protected his black woman.
The feelings and history behind black hair is way deeper than poor comedic jokes. From alopecia to being told our hair is ‘bad’— black women have endured years of embarrassment at the expense of a few laughs. From being called nappy-headed, bald-headed and worse, it’s expected that men with black moms, aunts and relatives understand  the pain behind black hair. Acceptance, convenience, time-management and lack of hair knowledge have all contributed to black women’s hair journey. While it can be as personal to many as personal hygiene, it’s always baffling when men speak on issues that pertain to women.

Tony Rock tweeted that everyone should watch his brother’s movie ‘Good Hair’ to prove Chris has nothing against ‘women of color’. This quickly turned bad when he was reminded how badly Chris portrayed Black women in ‘Good Hair’ a movie he allegedly stole from another Black woman
From explaining to White America how and why Michelle Obama wears weaves to turning his nose up at women who relax their hair Chris Rock’s disdain for black women’s hair choices were inevitable. His film Good Hair was supposed to teach others about our hair journey. Reminiscent of the kid that goes to school and tells all his family’s business. While celebrities supported the film and women in the film laughed nervously—most black women cringed through his movie. From questioning a child about her perm to trying to sell black hair no one wanted, it was just another slap in the face to the women we are supposed to protect. While Chris Rock’s own relationships have seemed to fail in spite of him choosing women with awesome hair choices, the question remains…is it a man’s business to discuss what a woman does with her hair?

Diddy said that Chris Rock and Will Smith were still good following the slap heard around the world, but his brother comedian Tony Rock said don’t break out the olive branches just yet.

Chris Rock’s younger sibling Tony Rock held a Q&A on Twitter yesterday, where he answered questions about his brother Chris getting slapped on stage at the Oscars on live television. When one of the participants asked Tony whether he accepted the apology, Tony replied matter of factly with a resounding, “No.” Asked by another if he and his brother were going to “fight fire with fire” or take “the professional route,” Rock responded, “It’s on bro.”

Rock himself finally addressed the ordeal during a stand-up set at The Wilbur in Boston and told the audience, “I’m still trying to process what happened.”
