Will And Jada Smith Family Foundation To Close Following Post-Oscars Slap Revenue Decline

The aftermath of the infamous Oscars slap involving Will Smith has taken an unexpected turn for the power couple, as reports emerge of their family foundation’s imminent closure. According to a recent report by Variety, tax filings reveal a significant decline in revenue and donations for the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation following the highly publicized incident. Despite indications that the foundation’s shutdown was in motion before the 2022 Oscars event, the decline in financial support appears to have accelerated the decision.

In 2020, the foundation boasted a substantial revenue of $1.7 million, followed by an even higher figure of $2.1 million in 2021. However, the numbers plummeted dramatically in 2022, with reported revenue dwindling to a mere $366,000. This stark decline speaks to the the impact of the controversy surrounding Will Smith’s on-air altercation with comedian Chris Rock during the 94th Annual Academy Awards. Sources close to the couple disclosed to Variety that the decision to wind down the foundation had been in the works prior to the Oscars incident.

The Smiths are now redirecting their focus towards private philanthropy, opting to contribute to charitable causes directly rather than through a formal foundation structure. The shift in approach aligns with their desire to maintain their commitment to philanthropy while adapting to changing circumstances. Signs of the foundation’s downsizing were evident even before the Oscars controversy. In 2021, the organization reduced payments to its only two staff members, and by 2022, there were no paid staff members remaining within the organization. Despite these internal adjustments, the foundation’s closure marks the end of an era for the Smith family’s philanthropic endeavors.

In the wake of the Oscars incident, Will Smith faced widespread criticism before issuing a public apology and stepping away from the spotlight temporarily. However, the actor has since returned with a new project, recently unveiling the trailer for the highly anticipated film Bad Boys 4 alongside co-star Martin Lawrence. As the Smiths navigate the aftermath of the controversy, the closure of their foundation marks a significant transition in their philanthropic efforts, highlighting their ongoing commitment to making a positive impact on the world, albeit through alternative means.

Jada Pinkett Smith Admits Will Smith’s Oscars Slap Saved Their Marriage

Jada Pinkett Smith says that Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars ceremony saved their marriage. Speaking with the Daily Mail for an interview published on Saturday, she admitted that she calls the incident the “holy slap” “because so many positive things came after it.”

“After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him,” she told the outlet. “Who knows where our relationship would be if that hadn’t happened?”

It’s not the first time that Jada has reflected positively on the Oscars slap. Appearing on CBS Mornings, last month, she recalled: “I might not have walked in there as his wife, but I left that night as his wife. And as I sit here today, I am going to be by his side always.” The comments came after Jada previously revealed the bombshell that she and Will separated back in 2016. Explaining that decision to CBS, she further said: “I needed time for emotional maturity. First of all, I was in a deep healing process, and I think I needed to really dissolve some false ideas of what marriage is, false ideas of what I thought Will needed to be for me, versus what I needed to learn to be for myself in order to have a loving relationship.”

Jada’s interview with the Daily Mail comes after the release of her new memoir, Worthy. She’s been promoting the candid book in interviews for weeks. Be on the lookout for further updates on Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s marriage on HotNewHipHop.

Jada Pinkett Smith Thinks She’ll “Take Care” Of Will Smith In Old Age, Was “Hurt” By Chris Rock’s Oscars Slap Jokes

During a recent interview, Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about her relationship with her husband, Will Smith. She revealed that the two of them have actually been separated for quite some time, and kept their split a secret from the public. According to her, they’ve led “completely separate lives” since 2016.

She went on to describe how the two of them continue to have a “deep love” for one another, despite no longer being “romantically together.” While their end goal was to eventually divorce, she claims it never “felt right” for them. “We don’t know why. But here we are,” she says. Though they’re taking some time to figure out what’s next for their relationship, Jada believes they’ll reunite at some point in the future. She spoke about her beliefs during a chat with The Times recently, claiming that she thinks her estranged husband will need someone to care for him. “I think eventually we will [live together again.] I really do,” she explained. “Will’s getting old. I’m staying quite young, but it’s getting apparent to me that he’s gonna need someone to take care of him.

Rock joked about the slap in his comedy special Selective Outrage, which Jada says “hurt.”

“I remember my heart piercing, my heart cracking, and I remember my feelings being so hurt,” she explained. “And then I remember being able to smile and wish him well at the same time.” What do you think of Jada Pinkett Smith’s response to Chris Rock joking about Will Smith slapping him at the 2022 Oscars? Jada Pinkett Smith Claims She Thought Will Smith Oscar Slap Was A Skit At First

During a recently published bombshell interview, Jada Pinkett Smith claimed that she initially believed Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars was a skit. “I thought, ‘This is a skit. I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him’. It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit,” Pinkett Smith explained.

Furthermore, she discussed how she handled the situation immediately after the incident. “[I told myself] I’m going to be by his side, but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.” This latter comment earned Pinkett Smith a lot of backlash online. Many people argued that it was an out-of-pocket thing to say. This is due to the slap originating from Will Smith standing up for Jada in the face of Rock’s jokes aimed at her.

However, her response to the Oscars slap was not the only thing that Pinkett Smith has faced backlash for in recent weeks. Jada made a statement relating to the arrest of Duane “Keefe D” Davis for the murder of 2Pac. “Now I hope we can get some answers and have some closure. R.I.P. Pac.” Pinkett-Smith and Shakur were reportedly close in high school. Furthermore, Pinkett-Smith has previously said in interviews that one of her biggest regrets in life is not telling Shakur that she loved him.

However, prior to this, Pinkett Smith had gotten backlash for sharing never-before-seen images of herself and 2Pac. Furthermore, she also shared videos of them dancing over a Will Smith song. People accused Pinkett Smith of capitalizing on the renewed attention on 2Pac’s case as well as disrespecting both Pac and Smith by conflating the two loves of her life. In other revelations, Pinkett Smith opened up about experiencing “bouts of depression” on semi-regular occasions in her new book that is out later this year. “Don’t be afraid, I tell myself. You are in peaceful, beautiful Ojai. Why are you so scared? Because, I answer right back, what if THIS actually kills me?” she writes.

N.O.R.E Claims Chris Rock Wants To Do His First Post-Slap Interview With Him

It’s been a long, long time since we got anything quite as dominant and conversation-striking in pop culture as the Oscars slap. If you lived under a rock for it, Will Smith slapped host Chris Rock onstage after the latter made a joke about the former’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. It inspired a lot of debate over whether it was justified that continues to this day, despite it being over a year old. Moreover, you might’ve expected both to talk about it at length, and while they have through other means, Rock’s never done an interview about it. Now, though, it seems like he’s already thinking about it, according to rapper and Drink Champs co-host N.O.R.E.

“Chris Rock gave me one of the greatest compliments at Nas’ birthday party!” N.O.R.E. tweeted early Thursday (September 21). “He said ‘I’m not ready to talk; but when I am; I’m not going to Oprah, I’m coming to see you N****. @DrinkChamps [handshake emoji] [goat emoji].” Of course, having the comedian on Drink Champs would make for a huge moment. What we’ll have to see is when he’ll be ready for a full conversation about it.

Chris Rock & N.O.R.E. Might Have A Drink Champs Cooking

However, that’s not to say that Chris Rock needs to fully address the situation if he doesn’t want to. After all, via his stand-up special, brief statements, and a whole lot of hearsay from other parties, we already know more or less how he feels about it. Still, N.O.R.E.’s more laidback and conversational style will probably make for a fitting look back on this incident and how it’s affected him since then. Sure, Drink Champs has had its hiccups with guests, but they’re very few and far between when compared to a lot of other media.

Meanwhile, this is not the only recent podcast appearance that the MC has in mind when it comes to his guest plans. Noreaga also responded to Kid Cudi’s request that he wants to join the show one day soon to talk about upcoming music, his career, his plans, and more. No matter who he and DJ EFN pull on, we’re sure it’ll make for quite the romp, and in this slap case, a pretty comprehensive reflection. On that note, check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on N.O.R.E. and Chris Rock.

Chris Rock Needed Counseling Following Will Smith Oscars Slap

Despite it being over a year and a half since Will Smith famously slapped Chris Rock on stage during the Oscars, people are still enamored with the event. Smith famously took issue with one of Rock’s jokes about his wife prompting him to come on stage and slap the host on live television. He followed that with a memorable declaration for the comedian to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth. Later that night when he won an award for his role in King Richard he made a memorable, emotional acceptance speech.

It was a legendary night for pop culture and one that people are still talking about to this day. Recently, Leslie Jones shared some new details on the aftermath of the event for Chris Rock. She mentioned that he had to go to counseling afterward saying, “that sh*t was humiliating, it really affected him.” In a post sharing the statement fans continue to take aim at Rock. “I bet he learned how to keep a man’s wife name out his mouth,” the top comment on the post reads. “All the therapy he really needed was a get back,” another commenter suggests. Chris Rock Sought Counseling After Oscars Slap

Earlier this year reports emerged claiming that Will Smith himself did alright following the slap. He reportedly had his “best rest” during his time away from Hollywood following the controversial slap moment. Will got to travel. Will got to step outside of all this stuff and when he was back he said — best rest he’s ever gotten. Best time he got to sit back and look at things,” one of his co-stars John Salley said.

Earlier this year Chris Rock released a new stand-up comedy special on Netflix. It came to light shortly before the special was released that Netflix had edited out a joke about the slap after Rock badly messed up his delivery of the joke. Will Smith Had A Great Time After Slapping Chris Rock

Will Smith became something of a Hollywood after slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. It was not because Rock was right or hadn’t provoked Smith. Instead, it was because Hollywood relies on perception and Smith had torn right through that. While Smith did appear in the historical drama Emancipation, his future in Hollywood was somewhat uncertain. Despite honoring and upholding numerous racists, misogynists, and abusers for decades, Hollywood wanted to be very clear that they did not tolerate slapping someone on television.

However, the exile did not last long. In early 2023, Smith announced that he was working on Bad Boys 4. John Salley, a three-time NBA champion and actor, had a small role in the original Bad Boys. Furthermore, he has been slated to return in Bad Boys 4. That, along with a long-time friendship with Smith, has helped Salley provide an insight into how Smith lived his life after “The Slap”.

Smith Had “Best Rest” During Time Away From Hollywood

Speaking with Vlad TV, Salley spoke at length about the impact being away from Hollywood had on Smith. “After Will did his smack, Will got to travel. Will got to step outside of all this stuff and when he was back he said — best rest he’s ever gotten. Best time he got to sit back and look at things,” Salley said. Furthermore, Smith’s expulsion from the Academy meant that “Now you can just make movies because you love to make movies,” according to Salley.

He continued. “When you start realizing everything that happens is like the butterfly effect. Everything ripples down to something else and it was him having to get out of it. I always looked at it when I watched the smack — it seemed like he didn’t wanna do it but he was already committed. Because he was leaning back like he was fighting something.” Details about Bad Boys 4 are still scarce, with only a few set details being released so far. The most notable of these is that Theresa Randle will not reprise her role from the first three films of the franchise.
