Timbaland and Swizz Beatz Double Down on the Return of VERZUZ

Timbaland and Swizz Beatz Double Down on the Return of VERZUZ

While accepting their Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz let fans know the VERZUZ brand is not dead.

“Me and my brother created something special, and it ain’t over,” Timbaland said. “Black-owned, Verzuz, me and Swizz Beatz. I’m glad to share this with my brother.”

Swizz added, “Like Tim said, we own Verzuz again. We got quiet for a minute, but we’re gonna come back strong and show you what it is. That wasn’t just something for the pandemic; that’s something for the world.”

Verzuz has gone MIA after some legal troubles, but Timbaland says it will soon make a return. Speaking with AllHipHop, Timbo called Verzuz a baby and also shared his team’s need “to reorganize the ship.”

“With everything going on in the world, we have to convert back and really make this a real serious business model and a real serious thing, because I feel like Verzuz changes people’s lives,” Timbaland said. “What me and Swizz have created, we have changed the lives of a lot of things and built up catalogs, so we have to really structure who we are and when we come back, what we stand for.”

Timbaland added, “I believe that we’re gonna drop some good ones before the end of the year. We’re trying to get at least one good one before the end of the year to recalibrate what Verzuz is going to be in the future.”

Timbaland & Swizz Beatz Win Cultural Influence Award, “Verzuz” To Return: “We’re Gonna Come Back Strong”

The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards were another success, which is no surprise given the fact that it has been airing for 17 years. So many fantastic artists and producers were in the house for the evening and there were plenty of great moments throughout it. One of which was Timbaland and Swizz Beatz taking the hardware for the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award. They are the third winners of it, with it debuting back in 2021. It is great recognition for these two iconic producers who have been pushing hip-hop music forward for decades now. Both gave their sincerest thanks to the fans during their speeches.

Billboard shared some quotables from Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. Timb got things started, “I always dreamed I’d be on stage accepting an award about hip-hop. Doing music back in Virginia, I never thought I’d make it, but I’m here.” However, besides being appreciative and humble about the win, he had more to share. “Me and my brother created something special, and it ain’t over. Black-owned, Verzuz, me and Swizz Beatz. I’m glad to share this with my brother.”

That wasn’t just something for the pandemic; that’s something for the world.” With plenty of legends showing up to their show in the past and the news about a new format, this is shaping up to be epic.

Pharrell And Timbaland Debate Who Has The Better Jay-Z Collabs

Timbaland and Pharrell have been friends for a while and they clearly admire each other’s work. They crossed paths recently at an event celebrating another production legend. Swizz Beatz recently celebrated his birthday and the celebration was multi-faceted. Pictures of the producer heading out on a double date with Lil Durk made the rounds last week. Now, more content from his birthday festivities is emerging online.

In a new clip two more veteran producers, Pharrell and Timbaland, are discussing their respective work with Jay-Z. As you might expect, things quickly evolved into a debate over who had the better catalog. But there’s no ego to be found here as the pair are actually arguing on behalf of each other. “What are we doing? ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder’!” Pharrell begins giving credit to the Timbaland-producer cut. That started a total back and forth between the two over who’s collaborations with the legendary Roc Nation chief were better. Check out the adorable clip below.

Timbaland Reunites With Nelly Furtado & Justin Timberlake On Our “R&B Season” Playlist

Seeing as it’s a long weekend, there’s really no reason why you can’t take at least a few minutes out of your Sunday to stream the latest songs on our R&B Season playlist. To kick things off we have the title track from Jorja Smith’s highly anticipated falling or flying LP, which will mark her first full-length release in five years. The UK-born songbird has been sharing singles from the project with us for months now, beginning with “Try Me” and “Little Things” before returning mid-summer with “GO GO GO.”

This week’s round-up also includes the latest from SAFE, called “Rent Free” which hit DSPs on Friday (September 1) along with a sped-up and slowed-down version for your listening pleasure. As far as collaborations go, we saw some huge artists reconnect for the first time in years on the feel-good “Keep Going Up.” Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake have long been teasing another joint effort after finding massive success in past decades together. Here’s hoping this isn’t the last we hear from the iconic musical trio this year.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist

Another unexpected (but incredible) duo we’re spotlighting today on R&B Season is Teezo Touchdown and Janelle Monae. The renowned rapper and vocalist joined forces for “You Thought,” which has already become a favourite for us thanks to their undeniably unique creative efforts. Following that is our final weekend pick. It comes from Queen Naija, who recruited NBA YoungBoy to join her on “No Fake Love.”

The memorable single begins with Naija’s sweet vocals, and eventually transitions into the Louisana superstar reflecting on some of his own past mistakes in relationships throughout his verse. Stream all of our latest R&B Season favourites exclusively on Spotify above. Which of the genre’s artists are you most looking forward to hearing from as we move into fall and winter? Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado Reunite for New Single “Keep Going Up”

Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado Reunite for New Single "Keep Going Up"

In a musical reunion that’s been long-awaited, legendary producer Timbaland is back with a bang on his latest single, “Keep Going Up,” featuring the dynamic talents of Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake. This track not only marks Timbaland’s triumphant return but also serves as his debut as an artist under the partnership between his Mosley Music Group and Def Jam Recordings.

Fans will remember this iconic trio from their 2007 hit, “Give It To Me,” which skyrocketed to #1 on the Billboard 200 and has since amassed nearly a billion streams. The track was a pivotal part of Timbaland’s platinum-certified full-length album, Shock Value, which dominated the Top 5 of the Billboard 200.

“Keep Going Up” showcases Timbaland’s signature sound, with a head-nodding drum groove and a thick bassline laying the foundation for dynamic verses by Nelly Furtado. Justin Timberlake adds his hypnotic high-register vocals, weaving seamlessly into the rich layers of production.

The origins of this musical gem trace back to Timbaland’s Beatclub, a thriving music creator platform. Collaborating with Beatclub members Last Trip to the Moon, Timbaland found his inspiration. After a session with production team members Brandon Stewart and Brandon Cordoba, who created the beat, Timbaland was ignited with creative energy. With his signature production style, he brought together Timberlake and Furtado as featured vocalists.

You can hear the new single below.
