Earlier this year, Beyonce released her highly-anticipated new album Cowboy Carter. It was the second release in her Renaissance trilogy of genre experimentations and it focused on indulging in country music. While she’s far from the first artists to ever attempt to transition into country music, the biggest comparison many fans made was K. Michelle. Some even elevated it to accusations of ripping off her transition from R&B into country. While that was months ago and has mostly been settled since, comments made by Tamar Braxton on a podcast reignited the debate and sparked a robust response from Michelle.

Braxton commented that black artists crossing over into country music had to be careful to represent the culture well. While the discussion was primarily focused on Beyonce, and K. Michelle wasn’t mentioned by name, she still felt slighted. That seemingly caused her to erupt into an absolute Twitter tirade making numerous tweets about the situation trying to defend herself. In her series of tweets she repeatedly insults Braxton, who replies once again claiming she didn’t mention Michelle by name and claims to not even be talking about her. While explaining their relationship, Woo shared threatening alleged text messages from Braxton. In one, she wrote: “Your home girl tried to talk to JR last night… I will personally kill that b*tch. Ion play these Atlanta games.” From there, Woo says the two hopped on a phone call with on another. Afterward, Braxton continued in more messages: “Ask your brown skin friend. I’ll have her head. ANYDAY. Don’t play with me. I’m so serious. Let me find her name. Ion do this fake a— Atlanta sh*t. Don’t play in my fckn face like that. This when I get real serious. That’s what your friend said to him last night. I will kill that b*tch. Y’all will find her….I’ll hurt that b— and her mama.”

She was expecting to perform, but when she was told that she wasn’t on the schedule at all a heated altercation sparked. That resulted in Chrisean allegedly assaulting one of Braxton’s backup dancers James Wright and putting him in the hospital.

While Rock denies that the fight ever happened, it’s her word against numerous others who shared their perspectives on the night. Now, a new video acquired by TMZ may shed some light on how tensions first arose backstage at the show. In the clip, Chrisean breaks up a prayer circle being held backstage with Toni Braxton looking particularly upset by the move. During an Instagram Live broadcast, fans bombard Tamar with questions about the status of Toni and Cash Money Records CEO Birdman’s relationship, brought forth by a rumor spreading across social media that the duo eloped in a private ceremony in Mexico.

Joined by her fiancee Jeremy “JR” Robinson, Tamar joked, “Let me find out they (Toni and Birdman) got married before us,” adding, “But, they’ve been together 14,000 umpteen years!”

So, did Toni Braxton and Birdman get married? According to Toni, the answer is flat-out and unequivocally no. The notoriously private singer rushed to her official Instagram page to shut down the chatter. “My dear friend Birdman and I are not married. [We’ve] never been married. Chrisean Rock, the rapper known for her controversial behavior, has found herself at the center of assault allegations after an incident at Tamar Braxton’s recent concert. Braxton had playfully teased her performance on social media the day before, building up excitement among her fans. However, things took a turn when Chrisean Rock, who was scheduled to perform, became upset after realizing her song had not been included in the setlist.

The Backstage Brawl

According to a member of Braxton’s team who witnessed the altercation, Rock stormed into Braxton’s dressing room, demanding an explanation for the oversight. When James Wright Chanel tried to diffuse the situation, Rock allegedly became aggressive and physically assaulted him.

Chanel suffered a chipped tooth and a bloody nose as a result of the altercation. The eyewitness recounted:

“…So everybody’s trying to calm her down… so then James is like, ‘Oh… nobody tried to shade you. We didn’t know that you were supposed to sing.’”

Chanel, best known for his viral reaction to Patti LaBelle’s “Patti Pies,” took to Instagram Live to address the incident, claiming to be an innocent bystander and expressing his bewilderment at the violent encounter. He did not mention Rock by name but indirectly confirmed her involvement in the assault.

Chrisean Rock Responds

In response to the allegations, the “Vibe” rapper insisted that she was scheduled to perform and referred to the assault accusations as “false narratives.” However, the incident has garnered significant attention, leading Rock to deactivate her social media accounts.

Furthermore, Rock and her DJ, DJ Sky, known from Zeus’ Baddies franchise, addressed the incident, dubbing Tamar and her team as “a waste of time.” Chrisean added that she’s weary of being utilized solely to boost others’ “numbers.” Rock further conveyed:

In response to the assault and support of her dear friend, Wright, Tamar emotionally apologized and recounted the events that led up to the fight in which she did confirm that Wright was indeed assaulted by Chrisean. She stated that she saw Chrisean as a little sister because she was also from Baltimore and that she never judged Chrisean for who she was. She said:

“ I really wish she would’ve hit me instead.”

Rock is already on probation in the state of Oklahoma for a drug case in which she was found guilty for charges of “possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a tax stamp and possession with the intent to distribute.”

Consequently Rock has often relied on social media drama to drive attention to her music and reality tv show. Only a few days after originally claiming she would leave social media, Chrisean Rock returned. Subsequently she went on Instagram Live to refute some of the things Tamar said and clear things up about an altercation that happened at one of her recent shows. “I’m that b*tch and I’m covered,” she said on live. The second part is specifically clapping back at Braxton’s call for “Justice for James” after an altercation during one of Rock’s recent shows. Furthermore, taking to Instagram Live, he provided a raw and emotional account of the incident, though he refrained from directly implicating Chrisean Rock. “My teeth have to be fixed and thats whats happening right now,” he said while showing his view of a dentist office. “And no I’m not going to show my face. My face is beat. It’s tore up. So right now I have to get teeth fixed that someone damaged. “I’m not gonna show my face, but I will show that I’m at the dentist getting my teeth fixed. I was attacked for no reason,” he continued.

“I know I don’t owe anyone anything,” he said. “Enough with the blaming everyone else. People are accusing me of clout chasing, I don’t need nobody’s clout and I don’t need clout from a negative source.” In a different moment, he admitted getting emotional and revealed a conversation with a higher power. “I asked God, why did this happen to me.
