Vic Mensa Says Using Drugs For Creativity Nearly Led Him To Suicide

Vic Mensa opened up about his history with drug use during a new cover story for Spin Magazine published on Monday. In the piece, he reflects on how he began using mushrooms as a teen, but things became much worse over the years as he went on to use drugs as a “creative crutch.” Eventually, he says that it made him suicidal.

“The first drug I really felt dependent on was mushrooms,” Vic Mensa admitted to the outlet. “I started doing them abusively. Probably 100 times a year when I was like 19. But it wasn’t soul-searching. I started to lean on it as a creative crutch, and eventually it just stopped working and I started having bad trips — I would feel like my throat was closing and I was dying.”

He continued: “In the pursuit of boosted creativity I started doing a lot of molly and ecstasy. I was going to the bathroom in the middle of a studio session and railing molly with the powder falling on the ground. And I’m rolling up a dollar bill, on my hands and knees railing it off the bathroom floor — definitely with piss mixed up in it. That stopped working, and just tanked my serotonin.”

From there, Mensa explained that he started using Adderall when he would crash on molly. “When the molly crashed, I was so depressed and started snorting Adderall,” he added. “Then that stopped working. I would use each drug to the max until it stopped working. And then I was feeling like I couldn’t create, because I needed these drugs but the drugs weren’t working. And so I was hellbent on killing myself. I was on a full warpath of suicide.”

Mensa explained that he was able to figure things out after an enlightening ayahuasca ceremony in San Diego. “When I did that first ayahuasca ceremony, my question for the medicine was: ‘Why do I feel so much pain?’” he revealed. “And I had a vision of seeing my mother’s blonde hair from my 5-year-old eyes. A higher voice came to me and said, ‘I used to want blue eyes. That is the root of my pain.’ I thought that was so revealing. It’s the first place I can really pinpoint it to within this lifetime: a sense of unworthiness because of not looking like my parents.”

600 Breezy Went On A “Drug Binge” To Cope With GF’s Suicide

Rappers often speak about their addictions, and 600 Breezy knows all too well what it’s like being dependent on a drug. Like many of his Rap peers, he struggled with addiction, telling VladTV that at 6’5″, he got down to 170 pounds. Breezy is in a much healthier place these days, but he’s revisiting times in his life when he was close to allowing his addictions to overwhelm him. “I was a skeleton,” he recalled. It occurred after his girlfriend took her own life.

“I just went on a three, four-month, just drug binge,” the rapper admitted. “Literally, at my mom house, laying on the floor, balled up in a corner with my grandad’s ashes or my cousins. Just trying to feel their energy. I just wanted to understand life more, because it was just like, ‘Aight, my girl not here, I don’t want to be here no more.’” However, there were people in his life who stepped in to remind him of all he had to live for.

600 Breezy Decides To Push Through The Pain

“She was a great part of my life. She taught me a lot. I got a lot from her. As like, she was only in my life for two years so why end my life for—you know what I’m saying?” he said of deciding against suicide, himself. “Do something stupid when I got kids that I gotta raise forever. Even when they’re 30, I’m still gonna have to be in they life. I still got my mom, I do something to myself…my mom. You know, I had to really sit back and think. I just used the drugs to cope, just to be in a numbness. Then I have to snap out of it.”

In September 2022, it was revealed that Raven Jackson, 600 Breezy’s girlfriend of two years, committed suicide. He publicly grieved the loss at the time, sharing photos of them together on social media. Breezy also posted screenshots of their last text conversation that suggested Jackson was struggling mentally and had been for some time.

600 Breezy Drank “Pints” Of Lean

Additionally, 600 Breezy revealed that the drug use resulted in him having health problems. “I ain’t seen the gym in months. It’s just like, I just wanna do drugs and do drugs and do drugs and just be numb. But, that ain’t the way to go.” Even sitting for the VladTV interview, Breezy admitted he was still in pain. “It’s killing me,” he admitted. “I was drinking Lean. Like, pints.”

“I did nothing but drugs, ’cause it was like, it was nothin’ in this world that anybody could tell me about anything. I just lost my woman, I did everything with her. If I traveled to work, she came with me. She was with me like she was my child, every day. It go from every day, talkin’ and being with somebody and now, you know. It’s like, she’s just gone. I don’t got an explanation, I don’t got nothing.” Watch 600 Breezy speak about his grief below.

OnlyFans Model “Coconut Kitty” Dead In Probable Suicide

Screen Shot 2023 02 22 at 3.50.37 PM

Over the weekend, it was confirmed in a post to her 5.4 million IG followers that popular OnlyFans model Diana Deets, who is better knowns as “Coconut Kitty,” was found dead in an apparent suicide. Her age is still yet to be confirmed.

The post read, “It’s unfair. Life is unfair. We wish you guys could get to know her the way her friends and family did. See, she was such a light to this world. Truly she was always glowing. You could never slow that girl down. She was so hard headed and strong, but also just so kind with the biggest heart we have ever known. She was always trying to lift everyone up around her. She wanted everyone to win.”

Deets claimed to be 24 years old for many years and in an exposé by Rolling Stone, it was discovered that she edited her photos considerably, which led to allegations that she was baiting pedophiles. In the article, Deets related the creation of her Coconut Kitty character to her visual art, explaining, “I wanted to make something that looked like a real-life anime character, small chin, big eyes, that was made in my likeness, because I use a picture of myself and I edit it. I just wanted to create a fantasy, just a character. And I was able to hide my identity and still make money off my art.”

Deets was also accused of luring younger women to join OnlyFans, but in her response stated, “I wouldn’t do anything in an unsafe environment, and I wouldn’t attend myself if I was unsafe. And I wouldn’t do that to someone else if it was unsafe for them.”

OnlyFans Model “Coconut Kitty” Commits Suicide Following Pedo-Baiting Allegations

On February 12th, Diana Deets (known online as “Coconut Kitty”), committed suicide. The OnlyFans model, who also was a mother, had received backlash after editing her photos to look child-like. According to the New York Post, Deets had previously suffered from depression. Her mental state may have been triggered further by the negative comments she received in light of the “pedo-baiting” allegations.

In a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone, Deets mentioned, “I did get tired of people commenting on my looks when I was camming. It kinda bothered me.” The magazine notes that the content creator, who also worked as an artist, initially had an interest in selling acrylic paintings. “I was like, ‘How can I make money off my art?’ and that’s how I decided to do digital art,” she explained to the outlet, “and that’s how I created Coconut Kitty.”

“Coconut Kitty” Received Backlash For Childlike Edits

“Coconut Kitty” was derived from Deets’s desire to create a “real-life anime” character. As a result, the Californian mom transformed her photos to reflect a small chin and big eyes. “I just wanted to create a fantasy, just a character,” Deets shared, “and I was able to hide my identity and still make money off my art.”

Still, the “fantasy” created by the OF model was quickly criticized, with anti-porn advocate Kate Oseen accusing Deets of “grooming,” as reported by Rolling Stone. Despite the controversy that Deets’ career had stirred up, her friends and family mourn their loss. A statement addressed to “all lovers and fans of Coconut” was posted on the late performer’s Instagram account to inform her 5.4 million followers of her death.

You could never slow that girl down.” The statement continued to recognize Deet’s upbeat attitude, noting how she always wanted the best for everyone.

“She was so hard-headed and strong, but also just so kind with the biggest heart we have ever known,” read the statement. “She was always trying to lift everyone up around her.” Our thoughts are with Diana Deets’ loved ones at this time. RIP.

Per TMZ, unnamed sources recently revealed that the So You Think You Can Dance star wasn’t struggling with finances prior to his death.

Ab-Soul Opens Up About Surviving Suicide Attempt

2022 turned out to be a highly productive year for the TDE camp but Ab-Soul is coming to close things out on a high note.

Though the roster typically has a few releases throughout the year, the heavy hitters came out to play in 2022. Kendrick Lamar emerged with his critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. On Friday, SZA finally came through with the follow-up to CTRL.

However, the TDE camp isn’t done yet. Ab-Soul is currently revving up for the release of his upcoming album, Herbert which drops this Friday. It marks his first release in six years, which undoubtedly had fans excited.

Ab-Soul’s opened up about his mental health in the past but in the song and video for “Do Better,” he speaks directly on depression. However, the video also suggests that the Control System artist also survived a suicide attempt.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, the rapper admitted that he nearly took his own life. Without going into too much detail, he said that he wrote much of the album prior to the attempt.

“Most of what you’ve heard, I wrote before … it,” Ab-Soul said. “I just wanna make it clear: You see me smiling, but it’s not funny. I think that’s just my way of healing from it.”

Still, he said that he hopes his testimony can bring hope to others so they don’t feel like they’re going through their own issues alone.

“Me sharing my testimony — if it doesn’t help, it might let you know you’re not the only one going through it,” he said. “That’s what ultimately gives me the courage to put it out there.”

Ab-Soul’s new album, Herbert is due out on December 16th. The rapper’s upcoming project includes appearances from Russ, Joey Bada$$, Punch, and more. He also has production from James Blake, DJ Premier, and others.
