Gunna & Young Thug Need To Rekindle Their Friendship So We Can Get Songs Like “Lesbian” Again

2024 has been a very combative year for hip-hop, that almost goes without saying. The number of beefs that us and fans are witnessing is quite remarkable, but also kind of saddening. Sure, the competitive nature of it all is something that has helped revitalized the genre after a down year in 2023 in some respects. However, wishing for a more exciting stretch has come with some drawbacks for sure. The loss of fantastic duos is probably the most glaring of them all. Drake being up against well over a dozen MCs and adjacent acts has stripped away a lot of potential collabs. Once some of his closest pals in Metro Boomin and Future are now mortal enemies.

We could go on and on about the rest, but we now have to shift our focus to Gunna and Young Thug. There are the most recent to be at odds thanks to a tweet and delete from the YSL boss. “Gunna stop acting like we friends on the internet, I don’t know u my guy,” he tweeted days after his release from the RICO trial. Gunna has yet to speak on the matter, but we are almost 100% positive he’s on that same energy. It’s got us reminiscing on tracks between Gunna and Young Thug like “Lesbian,” which seem like a relic of the past now. It may be a Metro Boomin track, but the way they were able to match each other’s energy was special anytime the worked together was special. Time usually heals most things, so hopefully, that’s all that’s required.

P-Lo Taps Bay Area’s Finest For “Player’s Holiday ’25”

P-Lo gathers a roster of who’s who Bay Area rap stars to spread some holiday cheer in the new track “Player’s Holiday ‘25.” For the revamped song with a Hyphy touch, he grabs G-Eazy, Kamiyah, LaRussell, Larry June, thuy, and YMTK to spread some thizz. The anthem supports the NBA’s upcoming All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. P-Lo partners with the Golden State Warriors to create the star-studded track.

The anthem is from a forthcoming album. David Kelly of Golden State Entertainment chose P-Lo to oversee the album based on his longstanding relationship with the organization. “When we set out to create Golden State Entertainment, we wanted to work with artists who represent Bay Area culture but can also do so on a national and global scale,” Kelly told Billboard. “P-Lo fits that perfectly. He has a massive following in the Bay. He’s a rapper, producer and someone we’ve worked with before. His connections with other artists, like Saweetie, G-Eazy, Larry June and Kamaiyah, allow us to create a project like ‘Players Holiday’ that we can tie into a global platform like the NBA All-Star Game. It’s the perfect match for what we want to do.”

The posse cut is inspired by the 1999 T.W.D.Y. original. The original’s music video features Bay Area legends Too Short, Mac Mall, and E-40 throwing a yacht party to celebrate the fictitious holiday. The track sampled the Bill Withers classic, “Lovely Day.” Larry June delivers the song’s best verse among a group of thizz-tributed lines.

Anycia & Kalan.FrFr Collab For The First Time On “Smoke You Out”

Anycia’s extremely lowkey and unbothered delivery has made her a standout and a name to watch out for. Bursting onto the scene in 2022 with a pair of singles, the Atlanta native really got to see growth in her reach heading into 2024. Her first major co-sign was fellow Georgia peach Latto on the single “BACK OUTSIDE.” It’s a braggadocious banger that still burns for us all these months later and it’s her biggest track to date. After a few more releases, she would go on to drop her debut project PRINCESS POP THAT. It’s essentially a longer version of that Latto collab, as she displays uber levels of confidence.

As we said, her delivery is big reason as to why she’s steadily rising up the ranks. However, there are times where it doesn’t always play in her favor. One of those instances unfortunately is on Anycia’s latest single, “SMOKE YOU OUT.” Sleepier flows in general are ones that tend to be the most hit or miss out there. 21 Savage sometimes suffers from that issue despite his superstar status. For Anycia, she gets a little more grace as she continues to build out her career. However, given how minimal the lyrics, there just isn’t enough oomph on her end. Kalan.FrFr provides the chorus, which sees him croon rather than spit. Overall, “SMOKE YOU OUT” is not Anycia’s best work in our opinion. But there are plenty of others out there that are.

Young Nudy & Pi’erre Bourne Have One Their Most Sonically Rich Cuts Yet With “4Slime”

It’s Sli’merre season once again starting today, as Young Nudy and Pi’erre Bourne are here with the sequel tape. It’s been five long years; however, we are just thankful these two trap stars are back and working again. Overall, the rollout wasn’t too extensive for Sli’merre 2, with both artists first teasing the record on social media around Halloween. “11-?-2024 🐍🎱 X 🅿🏁 ITS GO BE FUN,” the Atlanta rapper said on Instagram. Pi’erre was equally as excited, replying, “Man I can’t wait 😂” Following that, the dynamic duo would go on to give fans the first look at the project with “Right Now” on November 6. Then, just five days later, they would return with the second and final single “Get Fu*ked Up.”

So far, fan reception remains solid with some calling it a great follow-up and fire all around. For us, there are definitely some tracks that are resonating. In particular, we feel that Young Nudy and Mr. Bourne kill it on “4Slime.” The main reason why we are diving into this one the most is because the multiple layers. Instrumentally, this may be Pi’erre Bourne’s best work on the project. There are a few beat switches, with each one hitting just as hard as the one before. The track kicks off with one the darkest sounds on the entire record with ethereal tones and sound effects. Those get amplified in the mix around the 1:30 mark and the segue into moodiest and waviest section of “4Slime.” Then, the aggressiveness returns in slightly different form, and then comes back to the first beat. It’s like you’re jumping through portals with different environments. It’s an adventurous listen and it’s why we cannot get enough of it.

clipping. “Keep Pushing” In Third Track Of The Year

The Daveed Diggs included exciting new infusion group clipping. continues to roll out new music for their upcoming album with the trendy new song “Keep Pushing.” The group uses Diggs’ traditional Bay Area style to create an experimental production filled with a contagious burbling synth line that morphs into a gorgeous classical piece at the end of the track. The song is the perfect origin point for newfound fans as the group becomes more mainstream. The latest release follows a breakout year in film for Diggs that included his own series and joining the upcoming thriller, I Want Your Sex. The news follows his series Blindspotting and Snowpiecers ending in 2024. Both series received critically acclaimed reviews by critics.

In 2010, Diggs joined, adding his own fierce lyricism to their bold compositions. Clipping released their debut mixtape, midcity, on February 5, 2013, expecting little fanfare. It quickly gained popularity, resulting in Sub Pop signing them. In June 2014, they released their official debut album. The Wriggle EP and Splendor & Misery followed the debut. The group was nominated for “Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form)” at the 2017 Huge Awards.

“Run It” is the first single from an anticipated 2025 album where hip-hop meets cyberpunk. The group adheres to certain stylistic limitations in their new album, displaying more of their experimental style. The production used unique products like hitting bottles and breaking bricks. In acting, Diggs has just landed a role in Season 5 of The Boys. The Tony Awards winner will be a series regular on the Amazon series. He joins the cast of superheroes, including Karl Urban, Jessie T. Usher, and Laz Alonso. Season 5 will be the series last. Daveed is also producing a docuseries on Lafayette College.

OsamaSon Continues Great Run With “The Whole World Is Free”

OsamaSon’s latest single, “The Whole World is Free,” continues his impressive run in 2024. The Atlantic/Motown recording artist latches onto the distorted production with a signature trap style. OsamaSon attempts to persuade the girl of his dream to be with him. He goes through every emotion to cope with the fever dream. Before “The Whole World Is Free,” Osama drew a buzz with his latest single, “just score it,” which generated over a million streams in a matter of weeks.

The song has drawn excitement since its release on Tuesday (Nov. 12). “This is so beautiful,” commented a Soundcloud user, while another wrote, “This is generational. I could shed a tear.” Some would compare Osama to his rival Playboi Carti. “Better than Carti,” commented a fan. Another would refute the claim with, “Def not is just this song he prolly trying sum different not glazing i js think he trying to go for sum that’s not sticking.” In 2023, Playboi Carti allegedly referred to Osama while promoting his I AM Music campaign on Instagram.

Carti shared an old Young Thug tweet that read: “Boy, slow down dropping all that BS music…” Fans immediately thought the tweet was directed at OsamaSon. Playboi Carti has never mentioned the new artist. Throughout 2024, Osama has prepared for his anticipated album with trending tracks “withdrawls,” “popstar,” and “ik what you did last summer.” Released last month, “ik what you did last summer” has become the rising star’s biggest of the year with over two million streams and counting.

Young Nudy & Pi’erre Bourne Share Another Banger From “Sli’merre 2” With “Get Fu*ked Up”

Young Nudy and Pi’erre Bourne have become a fan-favorite duo over the years. That’s thanks to their inaugural joint tape Sli’merre from 2019. Numerous high-profile guests were enlisted to build some extra anticipation, such as Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. However, now that listeners are fully bought into their chemistry, its sequel is going to be a little different. Overall, it seems that their synergy is going to be the star of the show on Sli’merre 2. BabyDrill will be the only guest this time through. The collaboration project will be out on Wednesday at midnight, November 13, and it will feature 16 tracks. As it stands, the trap tandem has two singles from it out in “Right Now” and “Get Fu*ked Up” as well.

The former is a very colorful and bouncy vibe, something that Pi’erre Bourne is known to bring to the table. Conversely, “Get Fu*ked Up” is a little bit darker and wavier. That’s thanks to the distorted vocals on the chorus chanting the song’s title. The bass is more resonant on this one too, giving it that more traditional trap feel. Overall, both songs are nice vibes and present what should be an enjoyable listening experience. Hopefully, this will not be the only joint project we hear from Nudy for a while. There are some rumblings that a Metro Boomin-produced tape is in the works. We did get the extreme banger “John Wayne” this summer and it’s one that remains in heavy rotation. But even if we don’t get that, Sli’merre 2 should be tape to tide fans over for years.

Real Boston Richey Pens A Bop For The Players With “Come Outside (So Sick)”

Real Boston Richey is one a few rappers on Future’s Freebandz label that has been seeing some success. Artists like Doe Boy and Young Scooter fit that similar mold. However, none of these names have truly become household acts under the Atlanta legend’s tutelage. But the Tallahassee, Florida native could become that one name that blows up. We feel that way because Real Boston Richey is making songs like “Come Outside (So Sick).”

What we mean by this is that he seems to have found a nice blend of sounds. It’s nothing that hasn’t been done before, but prior to his viral hit “Help Me,” it felt like he was going nowhere fast. But this mixture of moody trap and mild R&B that was prevalent on that record looks to be the secret recipe for him. It’s applied to great effect on other tracks on Richey Rich such as “Still Pray” and “Come Outside.” The latter is more R&B oriented with its chipmunk sampled background vocals and light keys. Lyrically it fits that billing too, as he raps in his raspy voice about encouraging a woman in relationship to link with him instead. With already over 180,000 views on YouTube, fans seem to agree that Richey is finding himself as an artist with tracks like this.

Hitkidd, Rico Nasty, Duke Deuce, & Xavier Wulf Drop Off A Crunk Anthem With “B.W.T.U.”

Hitkidd threw his name into the “election” this past weekend with his new tape, Hitkidd For President. It’s the Memphis producer’s fourth project overall and second this year. If you haven’t heard of his work before, go check out GloRilla’s “F.N.F (Let’s Go)” and then come back. He’s been moving up the ranks for the past five years and he’s looking to be one of the faces of Memphis hip-hop that will carry the sound on for decades. He’s still just 29, so he’s certainly got the time to really stamp his name into the region’s rich history of rap. Hitkidd For President had been in the works for about a year or so, with the first single, “Throw Ya Signs Up!” dropping back in August 2023.

It seems like the mission for this body of work was to bring more modern-sounding bangers with some odes to subgenres from the city. One of those is crunk, which is prevalent on the stacked Hitkidd collaboration between Rico Nasty, Duke Deuce, and Xavier Wulf, “B.W.T.U.” That stands for “B**** We Turnt Up” and that acronym is a very accurate representation of the track. Right after the sung chants of “Start a f***ing revolution,” Duke Deuce comes in and immediately gets you ready for what’s ahead. His now iconic and drawn-out catchphrase “What the f***” and “Aye aye” adlibs set the tone perfectly for Rico’s nasty delivery (pun intended) and Xavier’s old-school Memphis delivery on the backend. It’s a banger through and through and an instant save from the project. You can spin it for yourself, below.

Real Boston Richey Recruits Lil Yachty For “Still Gon Go”

Last week, Real Boston Richey unleashed his highly anticipated sophomore studio album, Richey Rich. The project follows his 2023 effort Welcome to Bubba Land, as well as both of his Public Housing mixtapes. The Tallahassee rapper’s latest album boasts features by GloRilla, YTB Fatt, and more. He even joined forces with Lil Yachty for the track “Still Gon Go,” and so far, fans are feeling the collab.

Lil Yachty’s signature mellow flow pairs well with the hard-hitting beat and dreamy instrumental, and his verse makes for a solid addition to the song. “The energy that Yatchy brought Richey to on here is fiah,” one fan on Youtube writes. “Yachty , wess and mitch can’t miss top tier producer rapper trio,” another says. The release of Richey Rich follows the success of his single “Help Me,” which appears on the album and was first unveiled in May of this year.

It also follows some legal issues Real Boston Richey ran into at the beginning of 2024. He was reportedly arrested by federal agents in February for alleged conspiracy to traffic marijuana just in time for his 27th birthday. What do you think of Real Boston Richey’s new sophomore album, Richey Rich? What about his collaborative track with Lil Yachty, “Still Gon Go”? Do you hope to hear the two of them team up again in the future or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates. Check out the track down below.
