Skilla Baby Makes Things Personal On “Plate”

We love talking about the Midwest rap talent here on HNHH. It is an underrated region in terms of producing interesting artists, compared to the West, the South, and the East. Today, we are heading back to Motor City, Detroit, Michigan, to talk about a face that is slowly establishing himself. That rapper is Skilla Baby.

Skilla, like most of the MCs from the city, is aggressive, gritty, and has a blue-collar mentality. This allows for the 25-year-old to come across as authentic when he talks about his personal experiences. 2023 was a busy year for Skilla Baby, as he went on to drop two projects and a load of singles. Those two were Controversy and We Eat The Most.

Listen To “Plate” By Skilla Baby

The Geffen Records signee is back with his third single of the year already. “Plate” sees Skilla Baby talk about how he is always trying to give back to his community and family. There is a saying that money changes people. However, a more appropriate way to look at it would be to say that money makes someone more of what they already are. That is what Skilla is trying to convince and convey. Even with all of the fame, he is still going to do what is right morally for those he holds close to his heart. It is a violent but emotional single that Skilla fans will appreciate.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Plate” by Skilla Baby? Is this the best song you have heard from him recently? Do you think he is the best up-and-comer from Detroit, why or why not? Is an album in the works? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Quotable Lyrics:

It’s so much s*** on my plate
Could’ve said, “F*** everybody”, packed my s*** and moved away
Rich as f***, still ridin’ round in five percent tint with a Drake
I can do bad by myself, I made sure everybody ate
Wasn’t nobody around me, I was starvin’, real, it was late
I’m up as f***, don’t give a f***, b*****s gon’ f***, n****s gon’ hate

Zacari Wants To Stick By His Woman’s Side On “Ocean”

Right at the start of 2024, we had a feeling that this year would be a much busier year for hip-hop/R&B music. 2023 had its fair share of highlights for sure. However, the hype was not always there, and many were banking on the mainstream to pull through. That was not the case, but things are looking better than ever for the genre. TDE is contributing heavily to the excitement, and so is Zacari.

The Bakersfield, California singer has been teasing his sophomore LP, Stereo Miracle, for nearly one year to the day. “Motions” got things in motion (pun intended) on February 10. Then, Zacari would go on to collaborate with fellow R&B singer Ty Dolla $ign for “Ave Maria” back in October. Both singles are shaping this next album to be a solid one for Zacari.

Listen To “Ocean” By Zacari

On the Genius page, the tracklist is also seemingly revealed for all to see. However, sometimes things change and they are not always accurate. Which is why “Ocean,” Zacari’s latest single, could still make the cut. The sound of the track sounds like it would fit right at home on this next LP. It has a laid-back feel with him penning a song about wanting his energy to stay with the woman he is seeing. Sort of like how the waves from the ocean crash onto the coast. He wants to keep coming back for more.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Ocean,” by Zachary? Is this the best song from the Stereo Miracle rollout? Will this be the best TDE album of 2024, why or why not? Who do you want to see on the album and why? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. 24kGoldn Continues To Go Introspective On “Clarity”

24kGoldn really came on strong a couple of years ago. But, after a little bit of a break, the San Francisco, California product is gearing back up for a return. He was always able to deliver melodic, sometimes sappy tracks. But, this time, 24kGoldn is doing more of the ladder as of late. Who knows, maybe we will get some songs like “Mood” on his upcoming record.

Yes, you heard that correctly. After almost a two-year album hiatus, 24k is coming back with a new LP this year. Still only 23, the multi-hyphenate has announced Better Late Than Never, his sophomore offering. Interestingly though, 24kGoldn has been teasing this project since dropping El Dorado in 2021. The first rumored single that is on the Genius tracklist for the tape is “Prada” with Lil Tecca.

Listen To “Clarity” By 24kGoldn

If this makes the record, then this album will have a similar vibe to the debut. Just a couple of weeks ago, 24k opened up 2024 with a very personal track “Good Intentions.” On that one, he brought a catchy flow with some breathy background vocals, and a loud, drum-heavy instrumental. “Clarity” is more of a pop crossover with eerily similar background vocals to “Good Intentions.” On this one, he is singing about letting go of his past mistakes and looking toward the future. He wants to clear his headspace and focus on what really matters.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Clarity,” by 24kGoldn? Is this the best song you have heard from him in a while? Do you think this marks a comeback for him this year? Out of the two tracks released this year, which one is better? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Dthang Gz Flips “Annie” Musical On New Single “Last Day In”

New York drill music remains to be a key player in the state that saw the birth of hip-hop. There are a lot of new faces in the mix. One of those newbies is Dthang. He also goes by Dthang Gz and this is just his second time on the HNHH website. The last time we spoke about him was when French Montana grabbed him and T DOT for “I Got A Feeling.”

That song sampled and flipped the Black Eyed Peas’ biggest hit of the same name. Interestingly, Dthang is doing the same thing on his latest single. “Last Day In” does not share the name of another popular song. In this case, it comes down to the familiar vocals weaving in and out of the track.

Listen To “Last Day In” By Dthang Gz

Yes, your ears do not deceive you. Those are the little girls singing “Hard Knock Life” from the musical classic Annie. Dthang uses those background vocals to help describe his life at the moment. The 21-year-old rapper was supposed to serve three to five years after a massive indictment against the River Park Towers gang for numerous shootings that took place. Dthang, along with a host of other rappers were hit with charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, attempted assault, animal cruelty, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to HipHopDX. Dthang’s arrest was in 2022, so he was fortunate and looks to improve based on the lyrics of “Last Day In.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Last Day In,” by Dthang Gz? Is this the best single of his career so far, why or why not? Is he going to be a face of New York drill music? Do you think he needs to drop his debut project this year? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. YFN Lucci Drops “Free Me” Amid His Recent Legal Issues

YFN Lucci is dealing with a pretty major setback in his life right now. The veteran rapper hailing from the hip-hop hub of Atlanta, Georgia is currently under arrest after pleading guilty to one count of a violation against the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. This all went down for Lucci just about two weeks ago. However, there is a little bit of a silver lining in all of this.

It was originally reported that Lucci would have to serve a total of 20 years. 10 of those would be in prison, with the second half on probation. However, the sentence was updated to where he will only serve three and a half months in jail. Following that, Lucci will finish off the remainder of it on probation. While it is still not ideal, at least prison is out of the equation.

Listen To “Free Me” By YFN Lucci

Obviously, this has to be a lot for Lucci to deal with emotionally, mentally, and psychologically. One way artists know how to cope is through making music. That is what he has done moments ago, as he returns with a new single. “Free Me” is also the first solo single for Lucci in three years and it begins a rollout for his next album. The last time he put out a project was back in 2020 with Wish Me Well 3. In this soulful and trap-heavy cut, YFN gets out his frustrations surrounding life’s recent events.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “Free Me,” by YFN Lucci? Is this the Georgia rapper’s best single ever, why or why not? Do you think he will get parole in the next four months? NBA YoungBoy Murders The Beat On “BNYX Da Reaper”

NBA YoungBoy is one of the most controversial rappers of the last 10 years or so. The Baton Rouge, Lousiana MC has maybe the most passionate and protective fan base out of any hip-hop artist going right now. But, if you venture just outside that circle of people, there are haters o’ plenty. The reason why he is so polarizing is due to his actions and comments online.

Recently, NBA YoungBoy was torched for his very questionable parenting skills. Additionally, he is almost always tangled up in some sort of beef. There is rarely a time when something is not amiss. NBA’s fans are separating the person from the artist it seems and that is okay.

Listen To “BNYX Da Reaper” By NBA YoungBoy & BNYX

Another reason why some might not like him that much either is due to the amount of music he pumps out each year. It does not help when the quality is not always there either. But, that is not stopping YoungBoy from slowing down one bit. He is back with a first-time collaboration with rap’s next-up producer, BNYX. If the beat on “BNYX Da Reaper” sounds familiar, that is because it is a rehash of “Who Wit Me.” That song landed on Quavo’s sophomore solo record Rocket Power.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “BNYX Da Reaper,” by NBA YoungBoy and BNYX? Is this the better version of “Who Wit Me” by Quavo, why or why not? Did YoungBoy do this beat justice? Cash Cobain Lists Off Every Woman He Wants To Get With On “Dunk Contest”

New York’s rap scene has recently been flooded with a sudden tsunami of drill rappers. While the hardcore hip-hoppers still have more than a spot in the current field of talents, drill is having its moment right now. There are certainly different approaches to this popular subgenre. One person doing things a little outside the box is Cash Cobain. Once we explain his methodology, you may either be down with it, or wanting to explore elsewhere.

Cash said it best in a recent interview he did with Rolling Stone. “My music is about ho-ing, I just love being a ho.” The 25-year-old from Brooklyn is all about partying, women, and drugs of the trippiest kind. He has displayed that across his entire discography and this is a lane he looks to dominate for years and beyond.

That was especially the case on his most recent single “Rump,” as well as his latest project Pretty Girls Love Slizzy. Now, he is back with a new one called “Dunk Contest.” This makes a clever innuendo about all the women he wants to “slam.” He actually lists each one of them off by name across the three-minute run time. Cobain details the things he wants to do each one and describes their best features. If this is not the h**niest song you have ever heard, then tell us what tops this.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new single, “Dunk Contest,” by Cash Cobain? Is this his best single as of late, why or why not? Is his most recent project, Pretty Girls Love Slizzy, still in your rotation? If so, which tracks are you bumping from it? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Monaleo Is Bringing The Party To You On “Don Who Leo”

A lot of rappers love to hone in on a particular lane that they can rely on creatively. While some will argue that makes you one-dimensional, it can also be true that some artists like to deliver one sound. That can work in their favor, especially if they are bringing fans back for more every time they drop. Monaelo is one of those MCs who is always going to drop head-knocking bangers.

The relatively new girl on the block hails from Houston, Texas. “Go big or go home” is their trademark saying down south and Monaleo is always going for it all. The last time we spoke about her music was the last time she put out a single back in late September. It was about “Crying On Your Birthday,” which featured some wild punchlines. That continues to be a trademark in her songs with her latest drop.

This is also Monaleo, first offering for 2024 and it comes in the form of “Don Who Leo.” A trap banger with loud bass and some bells for some extra grand appeal. The cleverly named song makes a nod to the popular hard liquor Don Julio. Monaleo mentions crazy one-liners in this one. “Pulling cards, b****, this ain’t no Yu-Gi-Oh! (Yeah) / I get straight to business and I’m strict, Judge Judy h*e (Yeah, Yeah, Uh-huh).” Be sure to check out the accompanying music video above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Don Who Leo,” by Monaleo? Is she the queen of party hip-hop songs from the South? Which track is your favorite of hers and why? Flyana Boss Are Craving Sweet Treats On Their New Single “Candyman”

California boasts a lot of interesting rap personalities and Flyana Boss is in that mix without a doubt. The colorful duo of Bobbi LaNea and Folayan have been in the game since the turn of the 2020 decade and they like to drop bangers of all sorts. One of the more recent songs we covered of theirs was a remix of “You Wish.” That featured one of the greatest female MCs of all time, Missy Elliott, and Kaliii.

In fact, that was the last we spoke of them. But, we are glad to announce their next appearance on the HNHH site. However, before we get to that, let us recap what got them to drop “Candyman,” their newest single. “B**** Imma Star” immediately followed “You Wish (Remix)” and that one is a rauchy banger with all sorts of bounce and interesting lyrics. “Big One” is another fun is a big and bold braggadocious cut that also makes a clear sexual innuendo.

Finally, “UFHO (Unidentified Fly-a** Ho)” is a futuristic spaced-theme bop that also makes some hilarious tongue-in-cheek references. In case you have not caught on, Flyana Boss is all about being quirky and a little sex crazy. That is why “Candyman” is not a surprise to us. This time, the insinuations are related to everything sweet. It is a blast to listen to if you enjoy wild bangers. You will be rolling around on the floor to all of the comparisons they make.

Russ Takes A Different Direction On New Single “Drives”

Prolific Georgia rapper and singer Russ is already back with a new single for his fans. You may not find another artist who is willing to drop this much material so frequently anywhere else. Still just 31, the multi-hyphenate could go down with one of the largest catalogs of all time at this rate. Russ’ newest venture sees him take more of a singer-songwriter approach with “Drives.”

This track follows up on his December 22 single “Said It Freestyle” which saw him go the more traditional rapping route. All in all, it was a solid effort, but nothing too different creatively. Russ is known to crossover at times and break away from the mold he has put himself in. That is what he does here.

Listen To “Drives” By Russ

This cut is about a relationship that is severely on the mend with both of them dealing with their own problems. Russ brings some high-pitch vocals to the chorus. However, they just do not hit the right way. On the other hand, the lyrics are pretty decent and the production, also handled by Russ is pretty plain jane. It is a middling effort for us, but let us know what you think.

What are your thoughts on this on this brand-new single, “Drives,” by Russ? Will this be the best single he drops this year, why or why not? Do you like this type of music from him? Does Russ receive too much hate as an artist? What was your favorite project that he dropped in 2023? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this.
