Oakland California Shooting Leaves One Dead and Seven Injured
Monday night, a shooting in Oakland, California left one person dead and seven more injured. The occurrence took place at approximately 6pm PST in the 5900 block of Macarthur Blvd, according to a statement from the Oakland Police Department (OPD). The shooting comes only hours after the one 40 miles away in Half Moon Bay, California that killed seven people.
Just three weeks into 2023, and 39 mass shootings have taken place across the country according to the Gun Violence Archive. Bullets have plagued communities from Goshen, California, to Baltimore, Maryland, are reeling while others brace for the possibility of such violence.
The statement read, “OPD officers were dispatched to the area to investigate a ShotSpotter activation. During the course of the investigation, officers learned there was a shooting between several individuals. Officers arrived on scene and located several casings but did not locate the suspect.
Shortly after that the OPD Communications Division began receiving notifications that gunshot wound victims began turning up at several different local hospitals. “At this time, we are aware of eight victims, one who is deceased and the remaining victims were listed in stable condition,” the OPD said. A possible motive of the shooting remains unknown to the public, but the investigation is ongoing.
The deceased victim’s identity is currently being kept confidential as authorities work to notify their next of kin before releasing any new information to the public.
The Oakland shooting marks the third mass shooting in California in just three days.
In response to the consecutive gun violence, Vice President Kamala Harris told a crown in Tallahassee Florida, “A time of a cultural celebration … and yet another community has been torn apart by senseless gun violence. All of us in this room and in our country understand this violence must stop.”
“The majority of the American people agree with this common sense action. There can be no greater responsibility than to do all we can to ensure the safety of our children, our communities, and our nation,” President Joe Biden added.
The prominence of gun culture coupled with a divided Congress has sparked stagnancy across gun control. Biden continues to impel Congress to pass a pair of bills seeking to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and raise the purchasing age to 21, calling on lawmakers to “act quickly.”

Sammie Speaks On Mother’s Arrest & Murder Charge
A tragic incident that took place earlier this month is reportedly tied to singer Sammie’s mother. Outlets out of Florida state that 56-year-old Angila Baxter was charged with murder in connection to a shooting on January 12. Nekaybaw Collier, 27, was found deceased in her crashed vehicle less than a mile from her home. Investigators claim Baxter was shooting at random and struck Collier on the road.
It was stated Collier was shot in her abdomen and emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Not even 30 minutes later, a nearby resident flagged down a police vehicle to say there was a woman sitting inside an SUV who was shooting at vehicles passing by.

The man told police that the woman shot hit vehicle, but he remained unharmed. Another witness quickly surfaced to tell officers that a woman in a red SUV pulled up beside them and accused them of following her. When the witness attempted to flee the scene, the woman shot at their car, as well.
Baxter was later identified by a witness who lived in the area. She was reportedly picked out during a police lineup.

Click Orlando reported Baxter “faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, second-degree murder with a firearm and two counts of shooting into a vehicle.” When authorities searched her home, several other firearms were located.
When questioned by police, Baxter reportedly said she fired at the vehicles because she wanted to scare them. According to her, she was being followed.
Sammie released a statement about his mother’s arrest.
“In consideration of the recent news, I would first like to express my most sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Collier,” Sammie wrote. “I understand the severity of the allegations, but I do not have any additional information.”
“At this time, I respectfully request privacy for not only my family, but the family of Mrs. Collier. Thank you.”

Hurricane Chris Gets Break In Shooting Trial Thanks To Forensics Expert
Hurricane Chris just caught an early break for his upcoming shooting trial thanks to some help from a forensics expert. Moreover, his legal team recently spoke to The Shade Room to maintain that the rapper’s actions were in self-defense. According to the 33-year-old’s lawyers, they will prove his innocence at his upcoming argument and hearing on February 1st.
For those unaware, authorities arrested Hurricane Chris after he shot and killed a man who tried to steal his car. In fact, the car wasn’t his, which added a charge of stolen possession of a 2016 Mercedes Sedan to Chris’s list. Moreover, the incident occurred outside of a convenience store in his home city of Shreveport, Louisiana. While Chris argued self-defense, officers dismissed such claims after reviewing gas station security footage.
Moreover, the “A Bay Bay” MC’s main trial will being on February 13th. After a court hearing last Wednesday (January 18), his lawyer Alex Washington shared updates with The Shade Room. According to said report, a judge allowed a forensic analysis expert to testify on the artist’s behalf and support claims of self-defense.
“Hurricane Chris’ actions were in self-defense and justified,” the lawyer stated. “Today, the court ruled to allow our Forensic analysis expert to testify at trial.
“He will allow the second expert to testify once we provide a written report to the State,” Washington continued. “Both experts will assist in proving that Hurricane Chris actions were reasonable and justified. The February 1 date will clear up any small issues.”
Meanwhile, the Shreveport native posted a $500,000 bond just two days after his incarceration. Since posting a video shortly after, he stood by his innocence.
“Hello world, hello world, hello world,” he said in the clip. “I’m sure you got the news by now. I was involved in a very unfortunate incident on Friday morning, a very unfortunate incident. I wanna thank everybody who’s been praying for the family of the deceased and everybody who’s been praying for my family.
“After a good, thorough investigation, my name will be cleared. Let God work, watch God work. God bless. Thank you.”

Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” Shooting Charges Don’t Include Director Joel Souza
Over a year after cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins tragically lost her life on the film set of Rust, Alec Baldwin – who set off the deadly weapon – is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter. The reactions to this news are incredibly polarizing. Some are insisting that the 30 Rock alum doesn’t deserve the potential punishment.
Interestingly, the same bullet that killed the Ukraine-born creative also struck the movie’s director, Joel Souza. He was injured, but thankfully survived the unfortunate incident.
While he’ll possibly face repercussions for Hutchins’ death, the District Attorney says Baldwin won’t be in trouble for shooting Souza. According to the Santa Fe DA, “there’s no crime” in the latter. The only way to categorize what happened is “unintentional battery,” which doesn’t exist.
Battery requires intent, as TMZ notes. The DA also said that “Baldwin had no intention to hurt anyone.” Rather, the charges he’s facing are due to his alleged recklessness.
The outlet spoke with Douglas Stewart, who was filming on the Rust set before Hutchins’ death. Earlier this weekend he gave an interview TMZ Live, telling hosts that in the decades he’s been in the industry, it’s never been standard practice for an actor to check the chamber. In fact, he claims they’re prohibited from doing so. Instead, they usually rely on the armourer to ensure things are running safely.
If this case goes to trial, Baldwin’s attorneys will likely use this argument, stating their client was following an on-set custom which wouldn’t constitute recklessness.
As you may know, the 64-year-old was also an Executive Producer on Rust. During his interview, Stewart alleged that this was mostly to earn back-end profits, and not because he was “running the show.”
The actor’s formal charges will likely come prior to the month’s end.

FBG Duck’s mother claimed that King Von allegedly killed Boss Trell with help from his friend T. Roy. Moreover, this news comes soon after an FBI witness said that the late Chicago rapper put a hit out on Duck. Still, a lot of information on these incidents is unclear, something that Duck’s mother acknowledged.
“Von allegedly killed Trell, him and T. Roy,” she stated in a video clip. “Only the streets know and only the people who did it know, so that’s why I’m saying ‘allegedly’. November the 6th, my nephew made a post and he said: ‘I’m tired of this gang banging s**t…’ one of them posts he said. But the fact he said that November the 6th, this man allegedly killed him on the 8th, and then died seven years later, eight years later on the day that one of the people he killed made a post. I’m spiritual with this s**t, okay? And once we gone, we gone.”
Moreover, Duck’s mother’s testimony is eerie and heartfelt. Even though a lot of details are still hazy, millions still mourn those who died in these disputes. However, many pointed to an old tweet of Von’s as an indication of things smoothing out.
“Me and Duck settled Our differences right before he passed,” he wrote after Duck passed. “We was talking bout bringing everybody together as a whole n changing da community for the better. Imma still stand on dat shit. Every step of the way imma be thinking of u. Even doe u dissed my dead homies and family.”
Still, Duck’s mother claimed that these sentiments were untrue. Even after these cases revealed so much pain, many continue to honor the positive legacies these people left behind. YNW Melly’s Friend YNW Bortlen Reportedly Told Police About Shootings
The case of YNW Melly is still developing, and his associate YNW Bortlen allegedly spoke to police about the incident that provoked his arrest. Moreover, newly released audio shows a conversation between Bortlen and an unidentified speaker. During the exchange, the YNW associate spoke briefly on the night two close friends, YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy, died in a shooting.
“I’m trying to make sure I don’t get hit,” the rapper began. “And you’re telling me about this- I don’t know, you know what I’m saying? I’m driving… S**t crazy, bro.”
Furthermore, the last update we got from Melly was a plea for his life. Moreover, the “Mixed Personalities” rapper posted on Instagram that he “feared for [his] life” after threats from officials at his prison.

YouTuber CJ So Cool Says He Was Shot 4 Times During Home Invasion
Popular social media personality CJ So Cool says he’s recovering after an attack at his home. The famed YouTuber, real name Cordero James Brady, took to his Instagram Story to share brief updates about his harrowing ordeal. In a text post, CJ wrote, “In the hospital I got shot 4 times in a home invasion at 3am.”
He further stated, “Please keep me and my kids in your prayers so far I’m doing ok.” The break-in reportedly occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 12.

Additionally, CJ uploaded a gruesome photo of his bloodied leg as he lay in a hospital bed. His girlfriend, Alexis Lohmier, also posted an update from CJ’s bedside as she shared a photo of him during recovery.

Ebro Clarifies Saying He Didn’t Want Tory Lanez To Go To Jail
Next month, Tory Lanez will learn his fate, and Ebro Darden is clearing up his comments about the incarcerated star. Lanez was convicted of three counts related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. He has long argued he wasn’t the person responsible, but Megan named him as the shooter. A jury agreed, and the singer will find out his prison sentence during a hearing on February 28.
Last year, Darden went viral after he shared his thoughts on the case. “There’s also a world where we can be sad for Tory Lanez and sad for Megan Thee Stallion,” he said during an episode of Rap Life Review last April.

“He was apologetic to her,” Darden also stated at the time. “In public, he was doing something else. But the reason I say that is I don’t want to see another Black man go to jail. That’s not what I want to see. That’s part one.”
He continued: “Part two, I also believe he was probably highly intoxicated, right? And was being completely ridiculous… Her version of him standing up just shooting talking about, ‘Dance, b*tch, dance,’ that sounds insane. You are not in your right mind. That sounds like you was off… He sounds like he was off the full Pusha T album. He shoved it up his nose.”
Megan’s supporters didn’t appreciate the hot take, and now, Darden is clarifying his statement.

“I expressed how I felt about Tory going to jail, which, you know, I never wanna see a Black man go to jail,” Darden stated. “But he deserves it, and he deserves what he’s getting. So, when I was asked about it, I was like, ‘I hope he doesn’t have to go to jail.”
“But, the truth is, I’m sad. Even as Megan is getting justice, she’s not a winner in this scenario. She was abused. And then, she’s being verbally abused, and then she’s being framed in a bad way. Then, when she goes to put out music, this is gonna continue to come up all the time. That’s sad to me.”
Darden further said Lanez is “an artist we watched grow” to a hitmaker with several No. 1 projects. “His ego gets out of control,” he said. “He starts doing dumb sh*t and his toxic behavior is on display. Next thing we know, here we are in this scenario.”
