“Rust” Armorer Found Guilty, Mugshot Released

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the now-infamous Alec Baldwin film Rust, has been found guilty for her role in the on-set death of a cinematographer. The 26-year-old was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, which carries a potential sentence of 18 months in prison and a $5000 fine. However, Guiterrez-Reed was found not guilty on an evidence tampering charge. A date has not been set for her sentencing.

Gutierrez-Reed’s role in the death of Halyna Hutchins was largely one of negligence. The prosecution accused her of unknowingly bringing live ammunition to set. It reportedly remained there for 12 days before the fatal shooting. Prosecutors argued that Gutierrez-Reed’s job, if done correctly, should have spotted the mistake and removed the ammunition well before tragedy struck. Overall, the armorer was lambasted for her failings when it came to gun safety and other basic tenets of her job. Gutierrez-Reed is expected to appeal the decision.

Alec Baldwin Enters Plea In Rust Manslaughter Case

However, more convictions in the set death could be on the way. Alec Baldwin pled not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in New Mexico in January. Baldwin’s plea came after a grand jury chose to indict Baldwin over the death of a cinematographer on the set of the Western film Rust, for which Baldwin is also a producer. The grand jury chose to indict Baldwin on similar charges to ones that prosecutors initially dropped in April of last year.

The renewed indictment stems from a new gun analysis that was presented to the grand jury in Santa Fe. Baldwin has claimed that he pulled back the hammer on the replica firearm but did not pull the trigger. Baldwin will remain free pending trial but is prohibited from owning firearms, consuming alcohol, and leaving the country. He is also allowed limited contact with other members of the Rust crew for the purposes of promotion. Baldwin’s trial has been set for July. The film is yet to receive a release date.

Alec Baldwin Possibly Facing “Rust” Set Death Charges Again

Prosecutors in New Mexico are considering whether to refile charges of involuntary manslaughter against Alec Baldwin. The Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office stated that they are discussing the merits of convening a grand jury to refile the charges against Baldwin, arguing that “it may be appropriate for ordinary citizens to choose if Baldwin should face charges”.

However, Baldwin’s attorneys vehemently spoke out against the notion. “It is unfortunate that a terrible tragedy has been turned into this misguided prosecution. We will answer any charges in court,” Luka Nikas and Alex Spiro told TMZ. The Santa Fe DA initially dropped the charges against Baldwin earlier this year, though the office did state that new evidence could lead to a renewed investigation against Baldwin. According to the DA’s statement, new analysis of the gun disputes Baldwin’s claim that he never pulled the trigger. This remains a developing story and we’ll have any updates as they emerge.

Alec Baldwin & Rust: What We Know

Rust finished filming in May 2023, with Baldwin returning to set to finish his scenes. The film, which is working on a budget of $8 million, does not have a release date. The break in production caused several recastings, with Jensen Ackles and Brady Noon both leaving the production due to scheduling conflicts. The film follows Baldwin as a grizzled outlaw who must attempt to save his grandson from a blood-thirsty US Marshal.

However, the shooting incident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was not the only incident on set. A few weeks after Hutchins was killed, a rigger was bitten by a spider and needed numerous surgeries to avoid an arm amputation. Furthermore, multiple reports about lapses in on-site safety were reportedly raised and ignored by supervisors. The on-set armorer has been charged and is awaiting trial in the case. Meanwhile, another charged individual took a plea deal earlier this year. Baldwin, who is also a producer on the film, has maintained his innocent throughout the proceedings.

“Rust” Is Back In Motion With A New Armorer

Derailed Western movie Rust is finally back in motion with some major changes to its personnel. Following the tragic shooting of the film’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, back in October 2021, a new armorer has been chosen. The new armorer for Rust is a veteran in the industry. With over 60 major film credits, including The Terminator, Manchurian Candidate, and Mortal Kombat, Andrew Wert will be replacing the rookie armorer. Wert, 54, is the new replacement for rookie prop specialist Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 26.

Furthermore, Gutierrez-Reed, is the only member from the crew that’s still facing criminal charges over the shooting. While the film’s star Alec Baldwin was unexpectedly cleared on Thursday, the rookie is facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Not only that, she’s also faced with mishandling firearms, according to court documents. Authorities say Gutierrez-Reed was responsible for loading a live bullet into the Colt .45 that killed the mother-of-one Hutchins. She now faces a preliminary hearing in Santa Fe starting August 9th.

Reportedly, police say they found texts from the former Rust armorer that showed she wanted to use live ammunition in a previous film. Secondly, they also found a mix of live and dummy rounds on the Rust set-massive safety violation. Alec Baldwin, 65, is currently staying in Livingston, Montana. He has resumed his role as Western outlaw Harlan Rust and was pictured on set Friday. It’s the first time he’s been seen in costume since the killing of Hutchins.

Contrary to Gutierrez-Reed, who only has one other credit to her name, veteran Wert has worked on a slew of blockbuster films. Not only that, he’s also a member of the IATSE (International Allegiance of Theatrical Stage Employees) union. Along with Rust, Wert has quite the range of movies under his belt. Titles such as Transporter 2, SEAL Team (tv series), and the Spongebob Squarepants Movie. In a statement ahead of the film’s relaunch, director Joel Souza, who was also injured in the shooting that took Hutchins’ life, had warm words for his late colleague. He praised the new production team that was committed to finishing what he and Hutchins started. Are you watching Rust when it comes out?

Alec Baldwin Holds Rifle On “Rust” Set After Criminal Charges Dropped

Alec Baldwin was spotted wielding a rifle on the set of Rust, just one day after the criminal charges were dropped against him regarding the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin fatally shot Hutchins while rehearsing a scene for the same film in 2021. He had fired a prop gun that was loaded with a real bullet.

In pictures from the set, Baldwin is in character wearing leather boots, gray pants, a shirt with a black vest, and a bandana. He plays Harland Rust in the movie. Filming is taking place near the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana. The previous shoots took place in New Mexico, but they’ve moved in response to facing safety violations on set. They’ve also agreed to pay a $100,000 fine in the state.

A Candlelight Vigil For Halyna Hutchins

BURBANK, CA – OCTOBER 24: A candlelight vigil is held at IATSE Local 80 in Burbank, CA on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, for director of photography Halyna Hutchins who was fatally shot accidentally by Alec. The charges for manslaughter against Baldwin were dropped earlier this week. “We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident,” Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, the attorneys for Baldwin, said in a statement. In the time since the shooting, Baldwin has maintained he didn’t pull the trigger and pleaded not guilty. Despite the decision, prosecutors say that they may refile the charges in response to an additional investigation that is being conducted.

While Baldwin appears to be off the hook for the shooting for now, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the original Rust set, is still facing involuntary manslaughter charges of her own related to the fatal shooting.

Alec Baldwin Pleads Not Guilty In “Rust” Case

Alec Baldwin pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Additionally, he waived his court appearance on Friday. Currently, Baldwin is not in jail, free without having to post a bond to the government. He was originally going to make his first court appearance on Friday on Google Meet. However, he chose to submit his not-guilty plea through a court filing instead. Therefore, he will not have to do it in court and will not be due in court until the preliminary hearing begins. In the official trial, he faces up to 18 months in prison. Obviously, this will only occur if he is convicted in connection to the Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins‘ tragic death.

The Santa Fe D.A.’s allegations against Baldwin state that he acted with “criminal negligence” when he fired a loaded weapon. The incident occurred while preparing for a scene. The incident occurred at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in October 2021. However, Baldwin has denied these allegations, even prior to pleading not guilty. He has said that others were responsible for making sure the gun was not loaded. Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer of Rust, will make her first court appearance on Friday. She will appear under the accusation of involuntary manslaughter. According to reports, She was responsible for making sure all rounds in the gun were dummies.

Alec Baldwin Still Not In The Clear

On Monday of this week, prosecutors dropped the firearm enhancement charge. The charge could have added an additional five years to Baldwin and Gutierrez Reed’s sentences. It would have allowed for extra punishment for the actual “discharge” of the weapon in the course of a felony. However, this did not apply to the Rust case. The enhancement charge took effect seven months after the shooting took place. Furthermore, Baldwin is set to head to Montana in spring to complete the film. The creation process was suspended after the tragic accident on set.

In October, producers announced a settlement with Hutchins’ husband, Matthew. He will become an executive producer of the film. Additionally, the filmmakers of Rust have said that they will finish the film as a tribute to Hutchins’ final work and overall talent. Additionally, they will be working with a documentary crew to tell the story of Hutchins’ career. This documentary will include the story of Hutchins’ time on Rust. Baldwin and Gutierrez Reed will have a preliminary hearing within 60 days of pleading not guilty to their accused charges. They will appear in person for the preliminary hearing, where prosecutors will give evidence to convince a judge to request a trial.

“Rust” To Continue Filming, Will Honor Halyna Hutchins

Rust, the indie Western film, is eying a spring start date to resume production. The film will return from a halted production following the tragic accident of Halyna Hutchins’ death on set in October 2021. Rust Movie Productions confirmed the news on Tuesday. Bianca Cline (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On) will join the team as a cinematographer. According to producers, Cline will donate her salary to charity in honor of Hutchins. With her will come other additions to the crew, as well as returning individuals to the project. A notable returning member is Joel Souza, the film’s director. He was also injured during the tragic on-set accident.

A statement on Tuesday announced that Halyna Hutchins’ husband, Matthew, will serve as an executive producer on the film. He previously filed a wrongful death suit against Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie productions. However, the sides reached a settlement on October 5, 2022. The settlement included Matthew Hutchins coming aboard as an executive producer to help finish Rust and honor Halyna’s legacy. Additionally, Matthew Hutchins is supporting Rust Movie Productions’ creation of a documentary about Halyna Hutchins’ life and work, including Rust. Rachel Mason will direct and Julie Metz will produce.

This is the second time that Rust producers have announced that the film was reentering production. In October of last year, they stated that filming would resume with the movie’s original cast in January 2023. However, since that time has passed, it is unclear as to when and where the production will be filmed. Additionally, returning members of the cast have yet to be announced. Producers have said that new workplace safety procedures will be added, including the fact that production “will bar any use of working weapons and any form of ammunition.”

Historically, members of the cast and crew have spoken highly of Halyna Hutchins. Jensen Ackles said on Instagram that Hutchins “had a spunk and passion that infected the entire crew from the top down. She was an inspiration.” Director, Joel Souza, said today that “Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team joining former cast and crew are committed to completing what Halyna and I started. My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud. It is a privilege to see this through on her behalf.”

Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” Shooting Charges Don’t Include Director Joel Souza

Over a year after cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins tragically lost her life on the film set of Rust, Alec Baldwin – who set off the deadly weapon – is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter. The reactions to this news are incredibly polarizing. Some are insisting that the 30 Rock alum doesn’t deserve the potential punishment.

Interestingly, the same bullet that killed the Ukraine-born creative also struck the movie’s director, Joel Souza. He was injured, but thankfully survived the unfortunate incident.

While he’ll possibly face repercussions for Hutchins’ death, the District Attorney says Baldwin won’t be in trouble for shooting Souza. According to the Santa Fe DA, “there’s no crime” in the latter. The only way to categorize what happened is “unintentional battery,” which doesn’t exist.

Battery requires intent, as TMZ notes. The DA also said that “Baldwin had no intention to hurt anyone.” Rather, the charges he’s facing are due to his alleged recklessness.

The outlet spoke with Douglas Stewart, who was filming on the Rust set before Hutchins’ death. Earlier this weekend he gave an interview TMZ Live, telling hosts that in the decades he’s been in the industry, it’s never been standard practice for an actor to check the chamber. In fact, he claims they’re prohibited from doing so. Instead, they usually rely on the armourer to ensure things are running safely.

If this case goes to trial, Baldwin’s attorneys will likely use this argument, stating their client was following an on-set custom which wouldn’t constitute recklessness.

As you may know, the 64-year-old was also an Executive Producer on Rust. During his interview, Stewart alleged that this was mostly to earn back-end profits, and not because he was “running the show.”

The actor’s formal charges will likely come prior to the month’s end.
