Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift, And SZA Lead The ‘Billboard’ Songs Of The Summer List For 2023

As summer comes to an end, music fans everywhere have one question on their mind: What was the song of summer? In 2023, the song of summer can be defined using all sorts of criteria: What was popular on streaming apps? What went viral on TikTok? What was inescapable on the radio?

Today (September 5), Billboard dropped their Top Songs Of The Summer 2023 list, which factors in all of this data (specifically, chart data from June 10 to September 9).

At No. 10 is Gunna, who made a return to music this year after being released from jail on racketeering charges. His latest single, “F*kumean” has proven to be a hit, as his return has proven polarizing.

Occupying spots 9 and 8 are SZA, with her hit singles, “Kill Bill” and “Snooze,” respectively. Also taking two consecutive spots is Taylor Swift. At No. 7, Swift pops in with her remix of “Karma,” which features Ice Spice. At No. 6 is “Cruel Summer,” which was originally released in 2019 on Swift’s seventh studio album, Lover.

Lil Durk and J. Cole came in at No. 5, with their collaboration, “All My Life.”

Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, which was released this past January, continues to be an anthem for the summertime. This one came in at No. 4. Rema‘s remix of “Calm Down,” which features Selena Gomez, earned the No. 3 spot.

This summer proved to be a country music summer, as Luke Combs‘ cover of Tracy Chapman‘s “Fast Car” made its way over to No. 2. And at the top spot is Morgan Wallen‘s “Last Night.”

Selena Gomez Speaks Up About Rumors That ‘Single Soon’ Is About A Certain Famous Ex Of Hers

Selena Gomez’s new song “Single Soon” is about preparing for a breakup, so naturally, there’s been tons of speculation and theorizing about whether the song is inspired by one of Gomez’s famous exes. Some believe the track is about The Weeknd and the song’s opening verse certainly helps fuel that speculation: “Should I do it on the phone? / Should I leave a little note / In the pocket of his coat? Yeah / Maybe I’ll just disappear / I don’t wanna see a tear / And the weekend’s almost here.”

Gomez is putting all that to rest, though. Over the weekend, Hollywood Life shared an Instagram post that made note of the speculation about The Weeknd, and Gomez commented, “Couldn’t be more false.”

The Weeknd was on Gomez’s radar recently for a different reason: She caught wind of an AI-generated recording that made it sound like she was singing “Starboy.” She commented simply, “Scary.”

She also recently spoke about her classic hit “Who Says,” saying, “I was working with Disney at the time, and they were actually giving the song to another artist. I cried — I remember I was with my mom — because I loved the song so much. […] And so maybe it just didn’t work out with the other artist, but that was a gift to me that I did not know I needed. I love that song, and it has carried with me through my whole career, and I fought for it. So to be honest, I, to this day, need to hear it.”

Selena Gomez’s Next Album Comparable To Rihanna’s “Good Girl Gone Bad”: Report

Selena Gomez’s time spent playing Alex Russo on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place is obviously what helped make her a Hollywood household name. Like many of her contemporaries, relatively successful music has come throughout her career too. Some of the black-haired beauty’s biggest hits include “Lose You To Love Me,” “Wolves,” and more recently, “Calm Down” with Rema. The last time we heard a full project from Gomez was in 2020 with Rare, and on Monday (August 7) morning, we got an update on what to expect from her next LP.

According to @ThePopTingz on Twitter, the 31-year-old is seeking inspiration from one of the greats during her latest studio sessions – Rihanna. Specifically, the Barbadian singer’s 2007 hit album, Good Girl Gone Bad, which boasts titles like “Hate That I Love You” with Ne-Yo, “Rehab,” and “Umbrella” featuring Jay-Z. The outlet’s source claims that Gomez is working on something “modern with more dance and EDM influence.”

Selena Gomez Fans Can’t Wait for New Music

We’ve seen a clear increase in the number of artists embracing the sounds of dance within their own music, especially last summer with Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind and Beyonce’s RENAISSANCE. An official title or release date for Gomez’s work has yet to be shared with her fans, but there are rumours of a lead single hitting DSPs later this month. We’re eager to hear how much truth there is to all this gossip and find out if the Rare Beauty founder will take inspiration from anyone other than Rihanna on her next album.

Speaking of Bad Gal RiRi, it’s been relatively quiet on her front as of late. The “Shut Up And Drive” singer is likely approaching her due date by now, if she hasn’t already, meaning she’s probably enjoying her last few moments at home with RZA as an only child. Read all about their recent mother-son dinner date at the link below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to Selena Gomez’s next album in the comments.

Hailey Bieber Addresses “Dangerous” Selena Gomez Feud Rumors

Hailey Bieber says that the rumors of a feud between herself and Selena Gomez are “dangerous.” She addressed the online drama during an appearance on Bloomberg’s The Circuit with Emily Chang, earlier this week.

“I don’t think that this is about me, Hailey Bieber, and Selena Gomez. This is not about this pitting between two women and division between two women,” she said. “It’s about the vile, disgusting hatred that can come from completely made-up and twisted and perpetuated narratives. That can be really dangerous.”

She added that negativity is an “opportunity to really stand for bringing people together.” “I’m not OK with the kind of division that it caused. I don’t like this whole idea of ‘team this person’ and ‘team that person’ — I’m just not about that,” she continued.

Hailey is currently married to Justin Bieber, who previously dated Gomez. The two were together for nearly eight years before they broke up for a final time in March 2018. Just months later, Justin and Hailey got married, sparking rumors that the 26-year-old model “stole” Justin from Gomez.

Hailey Bieber Discusses The Rumors

“I’ve hated it since the beginning. And I think that kind of goes back to a little bit of just being misunderstood,” she further said of the narrative. “I keep having to say, and we keep having to say, that there is no issue and there is no problem. It’s so disappointing that people still behave this way over a man. It’s the world we live in unfortunately.” Both Hailey and Gomez have tried to tell fans to stop spreading the narrative on social media at various points. Gomez even told fans that Hailey had reached out to her to complain about fans making “death threats” towards her.

Selena Gomez Kidney Donor Angry She Still Drinks

Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa were best friends at one point. However, for quite some time, Francia seems to have been upset with Selena. In a video taken by TMZ a few weeks ago, Francia was questioned about her relationship with Selena. She dodged questions multiple times, hinting at her dissatisfaction with Selena’s behavior. Francia declined to answer whether they are still friends or if she would follow Selena back on social media. When asked if she would donate an organ again, Francia seemed more interested in helping others through the process.

For those who are unfamiliar with the situation, Selena and Francia have been good friends since they were children and worked together as young actors. In 2017, Francia donated her kidney to Selena after Selena’s own kidney failed due to lupus. The two remained close after the successful surgery. Selena expressed gratitude to Francia for saving her life on numerous occasions. However, their relationship appeared to turn sour in November. Then, Selena stated in an interview that Taylor Swift was the only person she was close to in Hollywood. After Selena’s statement went viral, Francia responded with “interesting” and unfollowed Selena on social media.

Why Selena And Francia Are No Longer Friends

Luckily for Selena Gomez fans, there may be some answers as to what happened. Francia Raisa’s father, El Cucuy, is a well-known Spanish radio host. During an appearance on the Spanish news program Primer Impacto, he provided some context to the rift. According to El Cucuy, Francia ended her friendship with Selena because she continued to drink alcohol after the kidney donation.

When asked why Francia Raisa was not featured in Selena Gomez’s highly anticipated documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, El Cucuy explained that it was because it was well-known what had occurred between them. He added that such conflicts were not uncommon in situations involving love, money, and fame. He went on to explain that the disagreement between Selena and Francia arose when Selena was drinking. Francia allegedly told Selena that she had not donated a kidney so that Selena could continue to drink and put stress on the organ. Ouch. What do you think about the situation? Do you think that’s a good reason to stop being friends with someone? Let us know in the comments!

Selena Gomez Kidney Donor Throws Shade At Her In Video

Selena Gomez seems to have done something to anger her former friend and kidney donor, Francia Raisa. In a video taken by TMZ, the How I Met Your Father actress is out and about in Studio City with her dog. The actress was asked about her relationship with Selena, but she repeatedly and obviously changed the subject. Raisa seems to indirectly criticize her former friend and organ recipient by avoiding answering questions about whether they are still friends. Raisa even refused to address whether she would follow Selena back on social media. The TMZ cameraman also asked if she would consider donating an organ again. However, she seems to be more interested in guiding others through the process.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa have been good friends since childhood. They both worked as young actors. In 2017, Francia donated her kidney to Selena after her own had failed due to lupus. Following the successful surgery, the two remained close, with Selena expressing gratitude to Francia for saving her life on numerous occasions. However, their relationship seemed to take a turn in November when Selena told an interviewer that Taylor Swift was the only person she was close to in Hollywood. After Selena’s remark went viral, Francia responded with “interesting” and unfollowed Selena on social media.

Selena’s Social Media Spat

Selena Gomez’s alleged fight with her friend Francia Raisa is not the only spat she has been in recently. She was recently embroiled in some seemingly unwilling social media drama with Hailey Bieber. Fans read into some videos posted by both parties and assumed they were shading one another. Selena eventually addressed the rumors of a feud between her and Hailey, which had been circulating for weeks.

The situation became so extreme that Selena’s fans even sent death threats to Hailey. As a result, Selena posted a message on Instagram, denouncing the actions of those sending the threats and calling for people to be more thoughtful. Her message effectively put an end to any speculation of animosity between the two women, and Hailey later expressed her gratitude to Selena for her defense. The model shared her appreciation on Instagram, indicating that she was thankful for Gomez’s actions. What do you think about Selena’s situation with Raisa? Let us know in the comments!

Drake & The Weeknd’s Artificial Intelligence Collab Includes Bars About Selena Gomez

Usually, rappers only have their contemporaries to worry about as competition. Now, they’re facing the threat of artificial intelligence more fiercely than ever before. In recent weeks, a slew of videos have surfaced online, unveiling what our favourite artists would sound like singing songs from other people’s discographies thanks to the power of computer technology. Some programs are even penning new lyrics and putting vocals from artists like Drake and The Weeknd behind them to generate authentic-sounding fake singles that have been generating plenty of buzz online.

As HipHopDX notes, Friday (April 14), saw a YouTube account called ghostwriter upload a track called “heart on my sleeve.” They described it as a “Drake AI song featuring The Weeknd.” Over the beat, we hear a voice eerily similar to Drizzy’s name-dropping a fellow Canadian and his beauty guru ex-girlfriend. “I came in with my ex like Selena to flex / Bumping Justin Bieber the fever ain’t left / She know all she need, I need her she blessed, giving her my best,” the lyrics begin. “I got my heart on my sleeve with a knife in my back what’s with that? / (Aye) 21, I love him that my brother that’s my slatt,” Drake’s verse continues.

The Weeknd and Drake Come Together via AI

For The Weeknd’s part, he also sings about Selena Gomez, who he previously dated. “Got these pearls on my neck, got these girls on my check like Selena baby / Oh my genie maybe yeah, she taking the Lambo for a drive using the fancy door,” The Idol star’s AI voice rings out. “When she went out the store, I throw my heart on my sleeve.” For many artists, hearing their source of revenue recreated so effortlessly online is certainly jarring, to say the least.

The Scorpion hitmaker experienced it earlier this week as well. At the time, he heard himself rapping Ice Spice’s “Munch (Feelin’ U)” thanks to modern technology. Champagne Papi shared it on his Instagram Story, giving many of his millions of followers a laugh. If hearing The Weeknd and Drake on a song together has you feeling nostalgic for their past collaborations, revisit fan favourites like “The Zone” or “Crew Love” below.

Justin Bieber Supports Hailey Bieber Amid Drama With His Ex, Selena Gomez: “LUV U BABY”

As much as the internet seems to be encouraging an all-out war between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber, both women have denied having any issues with each other. Since the model and her close friend, Kylie Jenner, were accused of mocking the former Disney star for over-laminating her eyebrows, various social platforms have been filled with hate messages for Justin Bieber’s wife. It’s been exhausting enough to take in as a spectator, and we simply can’t imagine what both socialites are feeling at this time.

For her part, Gomez has continued to share with her millions of fans on social media, regularly keeping them up to date on her mental health. She took a brief hiatus from the online world and has since been back in full force, promoting her Rare Beauty cosmetic line and other projects. “Please, please be kinder and consider others’ mental health. My heart has been heavy and I only want good for everyone. All my love,” she told viewers in a TikTok makeup tutorial earlier this month.

Since the rumours of drama began swirling, Gomez has vehemently denied having a problem with either Hailey or Kylie. In fact, she confirmed that she’s a “fan” of the reality star, and didn’t take their eyebrow post as personally as internet trolls tried to make her. As for Jenner, she responded to a video reporting on the alleged beef, describing it as “reaching.”

“No shade towards Selena ever, and I didn’t see her eyebrow posts! [You] guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly,” the mother of two wrote on TikTok as the gossip was quickly circulating. Despite their denial, hate for Jenner and Bieber has continued to pour in. Thankfully, the latter has a supportive husband by her side through thick and thin.

Justin Bieber Supports His Wife

On Sunday (March 12), the Journals hitmaker’s Instagram feed lit up with some sweet snapshots of Justin and his wife. “LUV U BABY,” he wrote in the caption of the heartwarming memories, which see the married couple cozied up in their bathing suits on a boat. Clearly, Hot Girl Summer is off to an early start for some. Read more about Hailey Bieber’s apparent beef with Selena Gomez here, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.

Crowd Chants “F*ck Hailey” During Justin Bieber’s Rolling Loud Appearance

Fans chanted “Fuck Hailey” during Justin Bieber’s surprise performance with Don Toliver at Rolling Loud, earlier this week. The incident comes amid ongoing drama between Hailey and Justin’s ex, Selena Gomez. Neither Justin nor Hailey has commented on hearing the chants from the show.

The Rolling Loud appearance comes just days after Selena Gomez called on fans to respect the mental health of others and “be kinder.” “Thank you and love you all so much. I’m deeply grateful for each and every one of you humans. You make me unbelievably happy,” she wrote on TikTok over the weekend. “Please, please be kinder and consider others mental health. My heart has been heavy and I only want good for everyone. All my love.”

As for how they’ve been handling it, a source for Us Weekly says that Justin’s been supportive of his wife throughout the drama. “Justin has been an amazing support system for Hailey throughout all this. He knows how happy Hailey felt after she and Selena made amends and thought they had put this all behind them,” the source said. They added that Hailey’s “been leaning on Justin and knows he has her back no matter what. Their marriage is stronger than ever, and it’s challenging times like this that only strengthen their bond.”

Last month, Gomez admitted that she was considering quitting social media and wanting to take a break from the spotlight. “I’m very happy. I’m so blessed. I have the best friends, the best fans in the whole world and I just couldn’t be happier. I’m good,” Gomez said at the time. “I love the way I am I don’t care, I’m big, I’m not, I don’t care. I love who I am. And yeah, I’m gonna be taking a second from social media, because this is a little silly, and I’m 30, I’m too old for this, so…but I love you guys so much! And I will see you guys sooner than later, I just… I’m just gonna just take a break from everything.”
