Earlier this week, Polo G took to social media to let followers know that he’s considering retiring. The 24-year old shared his plans on Twitter, claiming that he might be finished once his next album comes out. “Honestly after my hood poet album I’m considering retiring from music,” he wrote. The artist continued, thanking those who have supported him over the course of his career. “So I appreciate everybody ridin for me 10 fold,” he says.

Polo G continued, claiming that the current state of the rap game is the driving force in his potential plan. “This rap sh*t got so lame and watered down it ain’t no fun in it no more,” he wrote. For obvious reasons, his posts have managed to disappoint fans, who don’t want him to stop putting out new music. With that being said, it appears as though there’s nothing holding him back from retiring, as he claims to have made enough money to hold him over for a while.

Polo G Says He’s Made “$30 Million Plus”

In another Tweet, which has since been deleted, the performer detailed his massive earnings. “I made more than enough money trust me #pianoG,” he told fans. “I made 30 million plus off that instrument.” It’s uncertain whether the artist was referring to his music as a whole, which has been criticized in the past for its frequent use of piano melodies, or his actual song “Piano G.” Either way, it looks like the Chicago-native is pretty well off.

He just recently announced his next project, Hood Poet, earlier this week. The album is scheduled to arrive next month. Shortly after the announcement, Polo G also dropped off the first single of the album, “Barely Holdin’ On.” The announcement followed some ongoing rumors that the rapper would be making a return soon, and it’s safe to say that fans are eager to hear it. Polo G is without a doubt one of the most successful and definitive rap stars of the 2020s decade so far. However, ahead of the upcoming release of his new album, Hood Poet, the 24-year-old hinted to fans that he might be ready to wrap things up. Moreover, he took to Twitter to express why he could retire after this project, and to thank fans who stood by him throughout his career. “Honestly, after my HOOD POET album I’m considering retiring from music. Of course, this is sad news for his fans, but also just an idea and a possible option that he’s weighing alongside many others. After all, retirement is difficult even for those who want it. Hood Poet (which stands for “He Overcame Obstacles During Pain Or Emotional Trauma”) is his potential swan song, and follows up a long wait from his last project, 2021’s Hall Of Fame. Hopefully it’s a solid and compelling set of tracks regardless of Polo G’s future. With the lead single “Barely Holdin’ On,” fans of the “No Time Wasted” spitter have a solid indication of the greatness to expect.

Meanwhile, Polo already cemented himself as a key part of not just the Chicago drill scene, but also the contemporary hip-hop game as a whole. If he actually does retire, it will be interesting to see how his path within the genre and outside of it continues. Maybe he eschews the public limelight altogether and focuses more on his personal life. Lil Uzi Vert Could Be Retiring

During a recent performance, Lil Uzi Vert revealed that they may not be putting out music for much longer. “I might retire this year,” they told the crowd. Though fans would certainly disappointed not to hear more from the hitmaker, this isn’t the first time they’ve hinted at retirement. They “retired” in 2019, before making a return in 2020 with Eternal Atake. Later that year, they took to Twitter to tell followers they’re releasing two more albums before they’re “out.” Uzi made that claim the same day they released Pluto × Baby Pluto alongside Future. Since then, Uzi dropped their Red & White EP in 2022 as well as their new album, Pink Tape.

Following months of teasing, Uzi finally released Pink Tape at the end of last month. The LP includes various high-profile features from Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Don Toliver, and more. The album’s been quite the success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and quickly becoming the first rap album of the year to reach the top of the charts.

Lil Uzi Vert Might Be “Out” Soon

Since debuting Pink Tape, Uzi’s already teased some new music. Earlier this month, they claimed they’ve got a new mixtape coming soon. “Sitting here thinking bout how I went #1 on an experimental tape,” they wrote on their Instagram Story. “My apologies, Barter 16 mixtape on the way.” Shortly after the LP’s release, Uzi also said during a livestream that their next offering wouldn’t be a deluxe edition of Pink Tape. They instead claimed they’d be releasing a “whole other album,” getting fans excited for what the artist could have in the works.

Though it’s unclear whether or not Uzi was serious about retiring, their 2020 Tweet suggests that they could be making their exit from the industry in the near future. Luckily, they’ve hinted at new music recently, so fans will likely get at least one new project from them before they retire for good.

Lil Wayne Drops Reference-Filled Lou Williams Freestyle

NBA veteran Lou Williams officially announced his retirement from professional basketball earlier this year. Williams was drafted 45th overall in 2005 out of South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, Georgia. Furthermore, Williams was one of the last high school draftees to ever join the NBA, as the league prohibited teams from picking high school players from the 2006 draft onwards. Williams spent the first 7 seasons of his career with the Sixers. While Williams was a solid contributor, he was part of a Sixers team trying to find its identity after the departure of Allen Iverson. Becoming a free agent in 2012, Williams signed with the Atlanta Hawks but would be traded to Toronto in 2014. With the Raptors, Williams blossomed yet further into being a vital supporting player, picking up his first Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2015.

Finding himself a free agent once again, the guard signed a three-year deal with the Lakers. However, he was traded once more in 2017, joining the Rockets. He was then flipped to the Clippers just a few months later, where he would spend the next four years. Finally, Williams was traded back to the Hawks in 2021. Williams also left his mark on the music industry. Having recorded several singles himself, Williams featured on Meek Mill‘s Sixers hype track, “I Want It All”. Elsewhere, Drake‘s “6 Man”, from his 2015 mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, was about Williams. Now Lil Wayne is adding to that musical legacy.

Lil Wayne Drops Williams Freestyle

Wayne shared an unexpected freestyle commemorating Williams’ career. Furthermore, the verse was full of references to the veteran sixth man’s time in the NBA. “My n-gga Lou Williams, man, 17 years in the game, finally retiring,” he said. “You the hardest n-gga in the world when you know the whole fucking NBA community know that you went to the fucking club to get some fucking lemon pepper Lou wings. And I know you know that if that would’ve been anybody else, them n-ggas would not be in the NBA! … N-ggas got songs after you, and you deserve every single bar, you deserve all your flowers, man.”

It’s not the first time Williams and Wayne have crossed paths. Along with 2Chainz, Wayne appeared on Williams’ 2021 single “Big Tuh“. Furthermore, Wayne is a massive basketball and holds a lot of respect for players such as Williams. Wayne’s freestyle earned praise from the music and basketball world alike. LeBron James Confirms Return To NBA

LeBron James will not retire this offseason. The 38-year-old Laker confirmed this while accepting an award at the ESPYs on July 12. Comments made after the Lakers’ Western Conference Finals exit led many to believe that LeBron was at least considering retirement. “I don’t care how many more points I score or what I can or cannot do on the floor,” James said. “The real question for me is: Can I play without cheating this game? The day I can’t give everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.”

“Tonight, I want to use this moment to just say something that I’ve said a million times and I will never get sick of talking about it: I love this game. I love the game of basketball,” James said. “There’s a video going around right now on the internet of me coaching Bryce’s team last weekend, and it’s actually pretty funny. I saw a lot of posts with people talking about, ‘LeBron brings the energy to a high school AAU game the same way he would do to a Finals game.’ And to me, that’s the ultimate compliment. In my 20 years playing this game and all the years before, I’ve never, ever cheated the game, and I will never take it for granted.”

LeBron Back, But Lakers Future Uncertain

The confirmation of LeBron’s return will be a sigh of relief to the LA Lakers. Darvin Ham‘s team has invested a lot of resources into a “championship or bust” roster led by LeBron and Anthony Davis. The team has signed Gabe Vincent, Jaxson Heyes, Taurean Prince, and Cam Reddish this offseason. Furthermore, they retained Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. However, 2024 might be their last chance to win with LeBron.

The consensus opinion among pundits is that LeBron will likely push for a trade next offseason to join his son Bronny on whatever team drafts him. It’s unlikely that the Lakers will have the chance to grab him. If they pick too high in the first round, the Pelicans will likely use their option to take the pick for themselves. However, too low a pick in the first and it’s unlikely that Bronny would still be on the board. Essentially, the Lakers would have to aim for a first-round playoff exit or low lottery finish to acquire Bronny. The eldest James child is preparing to play at least one season of college basketball for the USC Trojans.

Megan Rapinoe To Retire At End Of 2023 Season

Megan Rapinoe, arguably the face of US women’s soccer for nearly two decades, has announced that she will be retiring at the end of the 2023 season. Rapinoe’s career began in Portland in 2005, when she scored 30 goals in 60 games for Portland Pilots collegiate team across three seasons. Alongside Canadian soccer legend Christine Sinclair, Rapinoe won an NCAA title during her freshman season. In 2009, Rapinoe was the second-overall pick in the WPS draft, joining the Chicago Red Stars. When the Red Stars shut down a year later, Rapinoe joined the expansion Philadelphia Independence. However, she was subsequently traded to MagicJack, formerly known as the Washington Freedom. However, the MagicJack franchise was terminated at the end of the 2011 season and the league would fold in early 2012.

After brief stints in Seattle, Sydney, and Lyon, Rapinoe returned to the US in 2014 to join the Seattle Reign of the newly formed NWSL. Rapinoe has since played 102 games and scored 47 goals for the Reign, who were acquired by Lyon to become the OL Reign. However, Rapinoe has also been an anchor of the women’s national team since 2006. She was a key part of turning the United States into the international powerhouse they are known as today. At the time of writing, she has won two World Cups, two Olympic medals (gold and bronze), and nearly 200 international caps.

Rapinoe Announces Retirement

Rapinoe announced that she would be retiring at the end of the 2023 season on July 8. “It is with a deep sense of peace & gratitude that I have decided this will be my final season playing this beautiful game. I never could have imagined the ways in which soccer would shape & change my life forever, but by the look on this little girl’s face, she knew all along,” she wrote on Twitter. That means the upcoming World Cup will be her last. Furthermore, Rapinoe’s final game will occur sometime in October or November, based on how well the Reign performs this season. The team entered as the defending NWSL Shield holders. At the time of writing, the Reign are third in the NWSL standings.

With the World Cup, Rapinoe will look to help the US make history. They enter as two-time defending champions and could become the first nation to win three tournaments in a row. Lil Pump says that he wants to retire from making music in the hopes of becoming an astronaut. The “I Love It” rapper made the comment in a video shared on social media by HipHopDX, earlier this week.

“PSA, PSA,” he began the post. “I will not be making music anymore. I retire. I’m finna go be an astronaut. Bye.” Fans on Twitter trolled the rapper in response. “Requires quite a lot of math and physics with a touch of chemistry and biology. He’d run mad studying Newton’s laws,” one wrote, while another joked, “We never looked at you as a rapper we don’t know any of your songs.”

Mike Malone Trolls LeBron James With Retirement Joke

Mike Malone became the first coach to lead the Denver Nuggets to an NBA title. Prior to Malone, the Nuggets had only gone as far as the Western Conference Conference Finals. The Nuggets won their first championship on the back of a dominant 4-1 victory over the Miami Heat. Subsequently, the team celebrated with a parade in Denver on June 15. Malone took over as head coach in 2015, immediately turning around an ailing team that hadn’t had a winning season since 2013. He got them above .500 in his second year and back to the playoffs in his fourth. Furthermore, he helped develop Nikola Jokić into a back-to-back MVP.

Malone has been incredibly vocal throughout the playoffs. He lamented the media fixation on the Lakers despite his side sweeping them. Furthermore, he refused to let the Nuggets get complacent despite their NBA Finals dominance. Before the series-clinching Game 5, he told the team to play like they were desperately in need of a win. The treatment paid off, as the Nuggets put on a historic Finals performance to bring the Larry O’Brien to Denver.

Malone Trolls LeBron

However, now his job is done, Malone is ready to be a little more light-hearted. Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Malone couldn’t help but troll LeBron James. The moment came after a question about the Lakers’ adjustments in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. “Well, a really good question, and speaking of the Lakers: I just want you guys to know, this is breaking news, I’m thinking about retiring, so don’t tell anybody.” Malone quickly confirmed he was joking and that team owners did not need to start looking for a replacement.

The quip, of course, was a dig at Lakers veteran LeBron James. LeBron publicly floated the idea that he might retire his offseason after the Lakers were swept by the Nuggets. The news sent shockwaves around the NBA for about a week, earning both support and condemnation. However, it appears that LeBron will be returning for at least another season. Despite this, it’s a well-deserved joke for the man who helped take down the Lakers and now sits as an NBA title-winning coach.

Amanda Nunes Retires After Win At UFC 289

Amanda Nunes is one of the greatest MMA fighters to ever grace the sport. Nunes, also known as “Lioness”, holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a brown belt in Judo. However, she began her career with a loss. Appearing at Prime: MMA Championship 2 in 2006, she submitted just 36 seconds into her fight with Ana Maria. Despite this, she would go on to win her next six fights before suffering a TKO to Alexia Davis in her bantamweight debut in 2011. She went 1-1 in her next two fights before being invited to make her UFC debut at UFC 163 in Rio. She scored a TKO on Shelia Graf in the first round.

Nunes would stay with the UFC, going 1-1 in her next two fights before beginning an 11-fight winning streak. In 2016, at UFC 200, Nunes won her first title shot to become the women’s bantamweight champion. In 2018, she knocked out Cris Cyborg to also become the women’s featherweight champion. She deliver a total of nine combined title defenses before losing the bantamweight title to Julianna Peña in December 2021. However, she won it back in a rematch in July 2022.

Nunes Retires A Two-Belt Legend

Nunes’ fight at UFC 289 in Vancouver was supposed to be a trilogy decider against Peña. However, injury forced Peña to withdraw and the UFC replaced her with Irene Aldana. Aldana (14-6) has been with the UFC since 2016 and earned her first title shot after winning four of her last five fights. The fight was brutal and lengthy, going the full five rounds. However, while not finding the knockout, Nunes dominated the fight. She defended her title with a unanimous decision victory, her second such victory in as many fights.

However, then came the news that no one wanted to believe – Nunes retired from MMA. “Double champion forever,” Nunes said. “This is the perfect night to retire.” Furthermore, when asked how she wanted to be remembered, she gave a similar answer. “The greatest of all time,” Nunes said. “I did everything. I broke a lot of records.” She also revealed that she had planned to retire as soon as she signed on for the fight. “I just didn’t want to focus on that,” Nunes said. “Focus on my fight. I don’t want to keep talking about retiring all the time.” Nunes will now return to her home country of Brazil for a long break and recovery period before figuring out what she wants to do next.
