Gabrielle Union recently held a meet and greet promoting her Larry Sims partnership with JCPenny, the SlimStyled experience. Specifically, she spoke to PEOPLE about her preferred hairstyles in order to look a little more youthful, which led to some remarks about fan gossip. Moreover, Dwyane Wade’s longtime partner spoke on folks’ rumors that she got plastic surgery. “A high pony for a lady of a certain age is like a facelift,” she remarked. “As much as what happens or doesn’t happen with my face is speculated, if you can’t be missing for six months to get a facelift — which I’ve never been missing for six months, get it right — the high pony is going to snatch you here.

“A pony here is going to snatch you here,” Gabrielle Union added, gesturing towards the middle of her head. “And a low [pony], here [points to back of neck].” So it looks like she did not have any work done at all, and even if she had, that doesn’t make her any less stunning or worthy of loving herself. Union’s been having a pretty great 2024 all things considered, even stopping by Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla’s tour earlier this year to have an awesome time.

However, this was also a relatively spicy year for Gabrielle Union in the headlines, given what many fans assumed about her relationship with her peers. If you didn’t hear, fans saw that she liked a tweet that seemed to shade Vivica A. Fox in response to her comments about Taraji P. Henson. In particular, Henson complained about unfair play in Hollywood concerning issues of gender and race.

That whole situation never really cleared up, so we can probably assume that everyone involved resolved their issues privately or it was never an issue to begin with. Regardless, none of that probably bothered Gabrielle Union in the first place. Not even these plastic surgery rumors can inspire that much ire, as she has plenty of experience in clapping back at trolls who criticize her looks. Recently, MIA hopped online to open up about her experience working with Jay-Z. According to her, once she signed a deal with Roc Nation, he allegedly advised her to get plastic surgery. Ultimately, she decided not to, as she felt secure with herself. “Even when I met Jay-Z and I signed to Roc Nation, the first thing he told me to do is get plastic surgery,” she began.

MIA continued, shutting down claims that she was insecure, arguing that she would have changed her appearance if she had been. “I’m not insecure because I would have got plastic surgery,” she said. “So their argument of ‘Maya’s insecure, that’s why she needs to massage her ego,’ fails. It fails because you turn around and ask… What women do you know who hasn’t had plastic surgery around you? All of them have. I’m the only one who didn’t.”

“If I was insecure, I would have done that a hundred times over,” she added. “I’m totally fine with the fact that I am [50], because guess what? I f*cking took off when I was 30. It took 10 more f*cking years than any other f*cker because I was the first and I was the new. I was making something interesting happen that wasn’t f*cking happening before.” Fans are praising MIA for sticking to what she felt comfortable with, and not conforming despite the pressure allegedly placed on her by people in power. At the time of writing, Jay-Z has not addressed these accusations.

MIA isn’t the only artist to look back on their early experiences with Jay-Z recently, however. The rapper underwent her second BBL late last year, which sparked a major debate among social media users. She began receiving hate from those claiming she took her enhancements too far, though she appears to be unfazed by the criticism.

While Banks isn’t paying haters any mind, she did decide to open up about some of the downsides of the procedure during a recent interview. She told B High ATL that the recovery came with a lot of pain, which took several months to go away. Banks recalled preparing for surgery by watching videos of others getting it done, which scared her.

Ultimately, however, she still decided to go through with the surgery because she felt the reward would outweigh the risk. “The healing process and going through it, like, the first day until you’re healed is hell,” she explained. “Probably the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my whole life… The first day, I passed out.” Banks went on, recalling the months after her surgery. “The pain is just excruciating, you know, cuz the inside of your body is like brutalized,” she said. “It took a while. I probably didn’t stop hurting all the way until like April, and I got my surgery in December. I just stopped hurting in April.”

Banks continued, noting that while her backside does feel heavy at times, she’s not yet struggling with any back pain. Yung Miami Is Not Convinced Drake Got A BBL: “That’s A Lot Of A**”

Amid Drake’s infamous “20 v. 1” feud, Rick Ross accused him of undergoing plastic surgery, giving him the nickname “BBL Drizzy.” As the battle progressed, Metro Boomin invited artists from around the world to jump in over his beat of the same name, offering a huge cash prize to whoever’s finished product he liked the most. Drake himself even recently decided to hop on the viral beat alongside Sexyy Red, on a track from her new EP “U My Everything.” He flipped the phrase in his favor, claiming that while he doesn’t have a BBL, lucky ladies looking to tweak their appearances go to him for funding.

Of course, most don’t believe that Drake actually underwent the procedure, and instead use the humorous nickname just to mock the Toronto-born performer and suggest he’s fake. Either way, Yung Miami gave her analysis of the rumors during a recent interview with Complex. According to her, there’s no way he got a BBL, as it would be strikingly obvious if he did.

His recent experience undergoing plastic surgery seems to be one of those, however, one of the rapper’s former lovers outed him in a heated social media post, claiming that he either underwent a BBL or liposuction. “My a** ex going through a mental breakdown because he’s on ‘downtime’ from getting his BBL or lipo or whatever you wanna call it,” she wrote on her Instagram Story earlier this week.

“He need to worry bout his girlfriend (baby mama) takin ’s,” Finesse’s ex alleged in her post. “I been gone from round y’all for months! Why still worry bout me? Worry about healing from the BBL you just got.” Many men would be angry to have allegations running rampant like this.
