Pharrell Previews Swae Lee & Rauw Alejandro Collab At Louis Vuitton Fashion Show

As Louis Vuitton’s creative director, you can expect Pharrell to take good care of the aux at its fashion shows. Moreover, he recently hosted one on Friday night (December 1) to show off his new collection for the brand, and was joined by some special guests. Most notably, Swae Lee– the superstar who formed Rae Sremmurd with his brother– and Rauw Alejandro– the Puerto Rican superstar making waves for his sci-fi-inspired take on reggaetón– had a great time at the show, sitting in the runway’s front row. Not only that, but Skateboard P actually previewed a collaboration between the two.

Furthermore, Pharrell played the unreleased team-up as the models strutted their stuff. Swae Lee and Rauw Alejandro mime-performed their own verses, and then stood up together to dance, sing along, laugh, and show off each other’s fits. It’s unclear whether the “At The Party” producer actually made this beat, which is a cohesive fusion of reggaetón, R&B, and dancehall stylings. We can safely assume he did, not just because of the circumstance of the premiere, but because it’s a pretty awesome groove, too.

Of course, Pharrell has a long and legendary history of collaborating with amazing artists to make timeless music. However, it’s something that he’s pretty humble about when comparing himself to his other producer friends, and we had a wholesome example of that with Timbaland recently. While they attended Swizz Beatz’s birthday dinner together, they debated over who has the better team-up tracks with Jay-Z. Rather than argue for themselves, they argued for each other’s catalog, which is a camaraderie that’s rare to see in today’s competitive environment.

Meanwhile, there’s also a lot of speculation about what Mr. Williams will drop next when it comes to music. Recently, he suggested that N.E.R.D. could be coming back to release new material, which obviously got fans very excited. Today in Hip Hop History: Clipse Released Their Second LP ‘Hell Hath No Fury’ 17 Years Ago

On this day in 2006, Virginia Beach’s own Clipse released the sophomore LP Hell Hath No Fury. Coming a whole four years after their celebrated, chart-topping debut Lord Willin’, Hell Hath No Fury did everything but disappoint. Produced exclusively by fellow Virginia Beach natives, The Neptunes, this album builds on Clipse’s unique take on mafioso rap culture. The contrast of the album’s hardcore, to-the-point lyrics and Pharrell’s colorfully playful production work to create a new style of drug dealer music.

It’s common knowledge that the hurdles set up in the way of this album’s release were aplenty. Clipse’s early growth led to them being pulled in all directions and, in an interview with Bill Withers, they spoke on how the music industry itself can paralyze an artist, and how that halted their creativity. Nevertheless, the duo came back stronger than ever, delivering an album that set a precedent in east coast rap. During the early 2000s, Virginia was on the rise with artists like The Neptunes and Timberland dominating the production game and Missy Elliot and Ginuwine topping charts. With this album, Clipse was able to keep Virginia relevant as it moved past the halfway point of the decade.

Although the album was not as commercially successful as Lord Willin’, it did peak at #14 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop albums. The LP sold 78,000 in its first week and produced two singles, “Mr. Me Too” featuring Pharrell and “Wamp Wamp (What It Do)” that both had some success on the R&B/Hip Hop charts.

In an interview with Complex Magazine, A$AP Rocky named the three best dressed rappers of all time; Brand Nubian’s Grand Puba, music/fashion mogul Kanye West and super producer Pharrell Williams.

Rocky, whose given name is Rakim Allah Meyers, names Puba first for his truck jewelry and signature Tommy Hilfiger gear that was gifted to him by Mr Hilfiger himself in the early 90s.

Kanye’s contribution includes his unparalleled contribution to adidas with his Yeezy brand, making the brand wave the white flag after their split from the mogul following his statements about Jews last year.

Rounding up the trio, Rocky Names Pharrell Williams, the current head of Louis Vuitton’s men department, who created his own high-end brands, Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.

Pharrell Speaks On Being Shocked By Louis Vuitton Appointment

Pharrell is currently the lead designer over at Louis Vuitton, which is a huge accomplishment. Of course, he takes over from the likes of Virgil Abloh, who was an absolute legend. From Off-White to Louis Vuitton, Abloh made a massive impact on the fashion world. Overall, he remains a revered designer whose influence will never go away. That said, some were surprised that Pharrell got the job at Louis Vuitton. However, he has been making the most of it and has already come through with his very first collection.

Recently, Pharrell spoke about his role with Louis Vuitton and how he was just as surprised as everyone else about the appointment. He describes a conversation with LV CEO Pietro Beccari who was aggressive in offering him the role. Regardless, he was happy to accept. “It wasn’t an interview or anything,” Pharrell explained. “It was like, ‘Will you accept this position? Will you accept this appointment?’ I’m looking at the water and I’m just like, ‘What?’”

However, Pharrell did not that he was surprised Nigo wasn’t given a chance. “I’ve been championing him for a minute,” Williams revealed. “And whenever me and Alexandre [Arnault] talk about LV, we would always just talk about different people. I’ve always been in the background, just advising. I never thought that it would be me.”

Over the weekend, N.O.R.E. celebrated 25 years in the game as it was the anniversary of his debut album.

Noreaga of famed duo Capone-N-Noreaga (CNN) released his debut solo studio album titled N.O.R.E. on Penalty Records and Tommy Boy Entertainment.

The certified gold, No.1 charting, 19-track album featured a star-studded array of feature artists on the mic including Nas, Busta Rhymes, the legendary Kool G Rap, Big Pun, Styles P, Cam’ron, Nature and Jadakiss all on the classic posse cut track “Banned From T.V.”.
