Drake’s OVO And The MLS Collaboration Aims To ‘Bridge The Gap’ Between Soccer And Street Culture

Drake has found another way to profit off his love of sports. The collaboration between the “Search And Rescue” rapper’s OVO (October’s Very Own) record label and the Major League Soccer (MLS) is now available to the general public.

The limited-edition capsule merchandise collection pays homage to three league teams. Toronto Football Club, New York City Football Club, and Los Angeles Football Club’s signature colors (red, sky blue, and black) are featured across the athleisure garments. The range of hoodies, tees, sweatshorts, and socks will predominately feature the label’s unique owl logo and distinct font type.

In a statement, the organization spoke in greater detail as to why the Cartoon was selected for the collaboration, saying, “Cartoon began his career as a LA graffiti artist before branching into murals, album covers, logos, and now most famously known for his tattoos. His richly detailed, hand-rendered designs pull much of their inspiration from the Los Angeles of Cartoon’s youth. At one time, the black and grey, fine line style was synonymous with LA street life, and Cartoon’s work has helped bridge the gap between those hardscrabble beginnings and the style’s current global popularity.”

The new MLS x OVO capsule is available now online. However, the items will be made available in person at the BMO Field for Toronto FC fans. Find more information here.

MLS and October’s Very Own have partnered to release a limited-edition capsule collection that was created in conjunction with the artist Mister Cartoon.

In this collaboration, three significant MLS markets—Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles—honor street culture. OVO collaborated with the famous artist Mister Cartoon to create original artwork for each item to tell that story.

Cartoon’s career as a graffiti artist in Los Angeles began before he moved on to murals, record covers, logos, and is currently most well-known for his tattoos. His intricate, hand-rendered drawings are heavily influenced by the Los Angeles of Cartoon’s formative years. The black and grey, fine line style was once associated with LA’s street culture, and Cartoon’s work has contributed to bridging the gap between the style’s humble beginnings and its current global ubiquity.

This limited-edition capsule collection features t-shirts, hoodies and sweat shorts for Major League Soccer clubs, Toronto FC, LAFC and New York City FC.

The collection can be seen below and can be purchased now at octobersveryown.com.

ILOVEMAKONNEN Reflects On Drake Relationship Turning Sour

“Tuesday” is one of hip-hop’s most beloved “one-hit wonder” tracks of the 2010s, brought to us by ILOVEMAKONNEN and Drake. Despite the song’s massive success, though, the Los Angeles native recently remarked to NPR Music during an interview how their relationship took a nasty turn. Of course, this isn’t the first time that he’s spoken on this issue, and he actually took some different turns back then compared to his current stance. Still, it’s quite unfortunate if true, considering he left OVO less than two years after signing a record deal. Apparently nothing was the same after the 2015 Wireless Festival.

“That’s when I knew something was weird,” ILOVEMAKONNEN told the outlet. “Just ’cause when I came out on set- and I started losing weight too, right- Drake had made a little joke like, ‘He a little Eric Benét-a** looking n***a.’ You know, like, ha-ha. And then I just started to feel this vibe. As I was supposed to go into my verse [on stage], they just cut it.” Also, he shared that their issues didn’t stem from Makonnen’s sexuality, which many thought had rubbed the Canadian superstar the wrong way.

ILOVEMAKONNEN Pinpoints Where Drake Relationship Soured In NPR Music Convo

In fact, the “SCUSE ME” artist claimed that past tweets of his dissing Drake was what threw a wrench into their camaraderie. “‘Y’all need to drop him because he said your song ‘Practice’ was lame back in 2011,’” ILOVEMAKONNEN remembered one fan writing on social media. “[It’s] our little outlet,” he shared while explaining that he meant no ill will. “That’s our only way of attention. It ain’t nothing personal.” Later on during his NPR Music interview, he theorized that things really solidified themselves into a falling out when he referenced the rumored beef during a Tim Westwood freestyle.

To make matters worse, the 34-year-old spit those bars over Drake instrumentals, putting things further into context. However, back in 2019, he stated that things were “all good” between him and OVO, so maybe this is just him reflecting on water under the bridge. Regardless, it’s a shame that this resulted from misinterpretation, Internet egging, and most importantly making jokes at another’s expense. Drake “So Far Gone” Era Pictures Surface Online

These days, it’s almost hard not to find pictures of Drake everywhere online. The Canadian rap and pop superstar grew his profile exponentially since the early days of So Far Gone, his 2009 breakout mixtape. However, glimpses of that era are more interesting and historic than ever, and one podcast aims to recapture some of that media. Moreover, The Blog Era podcast aims to take listeners on a journey through the explosion of hip-hop media in the 2000s, and took a look at the seminal tape for its third episode. On their Twitter feed, they commemorated the occasion with some never-before-seen snapshots of Aubrey Graham before So Far Gone truly started his path towards industry dominance.

“In honor of episode 3 day, let’s post some old/rare Drake photos,” the account’s post read. “This is of the original four OVO guys- Niko, Drake, Oliver and 40. Shot in Toronto’s Dundas Square the week before So Far Gone dropped.” In another post with pictures, they wrote, “Some more from that photo shoot, as Drake is on the precipice of fame and his life being changed forever. No crowds. Just OVO, being left alone in the busiest section of Toronto.” In addition, they even got Drizzy on set in another tweet. “These are Drake, and Drake/Trey Songz on the set of the Successful video shoot, filmed in Toronto in 2009. Drake Throwback Pictures Emerge

To elaborate on this podcast’s concept, it specifically anchors itself around the rap blogosphere in media and which artists represented its boom the best. Of course, Drake evolved past pleasing the blogs to selling out stadiums and leaving his mark in every corner of the game. In fact, it’s fascinating to think of Drake’s critical and fan reception now and compare it to how clowned he was when he began. Sure, he still has his haters and gained new ones along the way. But jabs at him land like a high school bully punching Gervonta Davis, and the 6 God won over a million dollars for betting on him to beat Ryan Garcia recently.

Meanwhile, listening to new Drake tracks- even loosies like “Search & Rescue“- map out his trajectory. Even as his career gained incredible heights and he went on to play with other genres, he stuck true to his skills. He brought melody to new heights in rap, could still spit cold 16s on command, and did so much more in the process. Regardless of your take on his music, check out some more unearthed So Far Gone-era pics down below. Also, return to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Drake.

Drake Wins $1 Million Bet On Gervonta Davis

Whenever there’s a big sporting event coming up, you can bet on Drake betting on it. His predictions always involve a big stack of cash from his heavy pockets, and an even bigger one if he wins. Moreover, he successfully bet on Gervonta Davis beating Ryan Garcia in their boxing match and won $1.38 million as a result. Furthermore, he took to Instagram to anticipate win, writing “Tank day aka pay day.” After Davis knocked Garcia out in the seventh round with a powerful body shot, millions around the world either rejoiced the win or lamented the loss- whether that goes for the boxers themselves or their own wagers.

In fact, soon after his victory, Tank addressed the overwhelming support that people like Drake have shown him. “Tell him I need half of that!” he joked about the 6 God’s odds. “It’s pretty cool to have people like that believe in me. It made me push even harder, so shoutout to Drake and the rest of the people that back me. This is only the beginning for me, I have a bright future and I’m staying humble through it all. What can I say? We done it again tonight.”

Drake Successfully Bet On Gervonta Davis Beating Ryan Garcia

On the other hand, Garcia gave his own account of what happened in the match. “He caught me with a good shot,” he remarked. “No excuses in here. I just couldn’t recover. That’s it. That’s all I have to say. He caught me with a good body shot. I’m not saying nothing but yeah, I couldn’t breathe. I was going to get back up but yeah, I couldn’t get back up.” Also, he expressed a desire for a rematch with Davis in the future.

“Obviously I’m disappointed,” Garcia remarked about the Gervonta Davis fight after his loss. “I tried my best but he caught me with a good body shot. I’ll come back stronger and yeah man, one day… wrack up a couple wins and maybe we could do a rematch at maybe 140, 147.” If that matchup returns, we’ll see where Drizzy puts his money next. Regardless, return to HNHH for the latest on Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis, and Drake.

Drake AI Returns With “Winter’s Cold” Song

A.I. technology is either the best or worst thing to happen to music since Napster, depending on who you ask. Moreover, its supporters see it as a new avenue for creativity, reference tracks, and new ways to put your work out there. On the other hand, its detractors see the dangers of copyright, false songs taking money away from artist, and laziness that A.I.-generated or assisted tracks pose. Regardless of which side you’re on, the last few weeks have seen an onslaught of A.I.-related material. The latest is a new track “from” Drake following his fake track with The Weeknd that set the industry ablaze.

Furthermore, this cut is called “Winter’s Cold,” and it’s unclear how much A.I. was involved in its creation. This technology can either turn an existing voice recording into an artist’s voice, or recreate lyrics and production based on the artist’s existing material. No matter how you slice it, fans seem to really enjoy these tracks. “Firstly, let me just say that that AI shit is evil & immoral,” a fan tweeted. “What’s already happened, and what could potentially happen to artists and the industry with this tech is despicable. HOWEVER, with all that said, THAT AI DRAKE WINTER’S COLD SONG IS THE HARDEST S**T TO DROP THIS YEAR!!”

Drake A.I. Drops Another Banger, “Winter’s Cold”

In fact, that sentiment seems to be a common one on social media. Of course, the argument also exists that it’s easier to replicate some artists than others, and Drake is perhaps the best example of that. His voice is just too recognizable, and he worked with so many styles that any lane of his could reemerge with relative ease. However, major labels aren’t having it. “UMG’s success has been, in part, due to embracing new technology and putting it to work for our artists- as we have been doing with our own innovation around AI for some time already,” Universal Music Group’s statement began. Moreover, they issued it after the Weeknd collab went insanely viral and they started taking it down from many platforms. It’s also worth noting that the 6 God isn’t a fan of this tech.

“With that said, however, the training of generative AI using our artists’ music (which represents both a breach of our agreements and a violation of copyright law) as well as the availability of infringing content created with generative AI on DSPs, begs the question as to which side of history all stakeholders in the music ecosystem want to be on: the side of artists, fans and human creative expression, or on the side of deep fakes, fraud and denying artists their due compensation,” they concluded. Wherever you may fall on that debate, stick around on HNHH for the latest on Drake and A.I. tech in music.
