Roy Woods Brings The Sultry ‘Insecure’ To ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Ahead Of His ‘Mixed Emotions’ Album Release

Drake isn’t the only member of his label releasing music this summer. OVO Sound rap-crooner Roy Woods is also gearing up to release his own new album, Mixed Emotions, this Friday, August 5. So, it’s only right that he dropped by Uproxx Studios to deliver a simmering performance of his sultry single, “Insecure,” for UPROXX Sessions.

It has been nearly five years since Roy last released a full-length album, 2017’s Say Less. Fans got a glimpse of his evolution in 2020 on the Dem Times EP, so it’ll be interesting to see how his sound has evolved even more since then. The Brampton native expressed his gratitude to his followers for their patience on Twitter and promised to reward for it, as well. “To those of you who have supported my journey, I appreciate y’all,” he wrote. “I know you’re expecting an album this week, but I’m adding something special to it, so stay tuned for more.”

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. Featuring creative direction from LA promotion collective, Ham On Everything, and taking place on our “bathroom” set designed and painted by Julian Gross, UPROXX Sessions is a showcase of some of our favorite performers, who just might soon be yours, too.

[VIDEO] R&B Duo dvsn Samples Jay-Z on Provocative New Single “If I Get Caught”

DVSN IF I GET CAUGHT ART

R&B duo dvsn, consisting of singer Daniel Daley and GRAMMY Award-winning producer Nineteen85 unveil their provocative, new single “If I Get Caught” accompanied by an equally thought-provoking new video via OVO Sound and Warner Records.

With the help of Jermaine Dupri, “If I Get Caught” samples “Song Cry” from JAY-Z’s seminal 2001 album The Blueprint. It twists the Hip Hop classic into a moral dilemma about infidelity and its impact on a relationship.

“If I get caught cheating, that don’t mean I don’t love you,” dvsn sings on the chorus.

Although it’s sung from the perspective of a man, in the rollout promo a mixed focus group of men and women in various relationship types solidified its theme as universal.

The controversial video directed by Andy Madeleine showcases Daniel Daley and his best friend Mal embarking on a night out with Jermaine Dupri making a cameo appearance. All while Daniel’s girlfriend is left at home to her own devices, assuming the worst about what the boys will get into.

Check out the visual for yourself as the Canadian duo celebrates the polyamory lifestyle in their provocative new anthem, “If I Get Caught.”

OG Parker Details How ‘No Fuss,’ PartyNextDoor’s First Solo Single In Two Years, Came To Life

PartyNextDoor releases are rare — unless you’re the gifted and ingenious producer known as OG Parker, of course.

OG Parker and Party in the studio, creating music? Regular. They are good friends, after all. In the music business, however, just because a producer records a song with an artist, doesn’t mean that the song will actually see the light of day. With that understanding, somehow the award-winning hitmaker was miraculously able to get a solo record from the elusive crooner, and it’s a seductive poetic vibe titled “No Fuss.”

Ready and made for Party, “No Fuss” sees the OVO Sound singer gently opting to be a lover, not a fighter. “Don’t wanna feel pain / Don’t want no fuss or fight,” he insists throughout the song. According to Parker, “No Fuss” was originally a track created from a pool of beats that he had shared. While on a Costa Rica trip, Party played “No Fuss” for Parker for the first time. After hearing it, the beatmaker instantly hinted that he wanted the song for his upcoming EP, Moments. Without hesitation, Party apparently replied, “I got you.”

“He’s literally like my brother so it’s a little different,” Parker explained of the ease it took to obtain such a sonic rarity over a Zoom call. “He’s a very secretive person, he keeps to himself and he only f*cks with people he feels like are family.”

“No Fuss” is the second single to be released from Moments and is the follow-up to 2021’s “Rain” featuring Chris Brown, Layton Greene, Latto, and PnB Rock.

“It’s about 70% to 80% done, I would say, and we’re looking for it to come out a little bit after summer,” he revealed to me in an interview last year. He also mentioned in the same interview that Party (among others) would possibly be on it and here we are with a brand new single less than a year later.

I know fans want to know what this means as far as a new PartyNextDoor project, so I definitely asked. The truth is, we may never know and neither does Parker.

“Nah, I honestly don’t,” Parker told me with a pause and grin when I asked if there’s more PND on the way. “I don’t even like talking about that.”

He quickly assured me that Party is always in the studio and they have a lot of “crazy” music together, though. Whether or not a follow-up to 2020’s Partymobile will arrive in 2022 is a mystery in itself but for now, let’s thank OG Parker for this rare PND audible treat after starving for two, long, years.

Majid Jordan Flex Their Range On The Beautiful, Acoustic New Single, ‘Forget About The Party’

Two weeks ago, Toronto-based electro R&B/synth wave duo Majid Jordan announced their third full length album and first in four years, Wildest Dreams, out later this month. Comprised of singer Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman, the pair have already dropped a few stellar singles off of the album in the sleek 80’s dance floor floor inflected “Summer Rain,” the upbeat electro soul banger “Waves of Blue,” and one hell of a shoulder to cry in in “Been Through That.”

But now with the acoustic “Forget About The Party,” they’re really flashing a distinct versatility. Singing over a handsome guitar melody, Al Maskati paints the nightlife of The Six into the hook while he pleas with the object of his affection to drop what she’s doing and come be by his side: “The city’s got you blinded by the life, forget about the party, come to mine / I’ll give myself to you like its a habit, everything you wanted, you can have it.” He transitions from a gentle delivery into a high-pitch falsetto, showing palpable range that matches the diverse early offerings that Wildest Dreams has already yielded.

Listen to and watch the visualizer for “Forget About The Party” above and check out their upcoming tour stops below.
