Sonya Massey Update: Sangamon County Sheriff Promises To Retire

Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell, embroiled in controversy following the fatal shooting of Sonya Massey on July 6, said he is stepping down. Campbell, who has been sheriff since 2018, is retiring no later than Aug. 31, he said in a statement on August 9. Former county deputy Sean P. Grayson has been charged with Massey’s murder. He pleaded not guilty and remains in custody after again being denied pre-trial release.

Sangamon County Board Chairman Andy Van Meter has final say in naming an interim replacement. Campbell’s second in command is Chief Deputy Anthony Mayfield. Calls for Campbell’s resignation had come from many sides, including Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton. Campbell previously refused to resign, saying it would be “irresponsible.” Massey’s family members also called for him to be let go. In a statement provided, Pritzker hoped a fresh start with new leadership “will usher in a new era of reform and rebuilt the trust lost between the Sangamon County community and sheriff’s office. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump said Campbell’s retirement “marks a turning point in the ongoing pursuit of justice for Sonya Massey.”

Since Sean Grayson’s arrest for Sonya Massey’s death, questions have arose about how he got multiple opportunities as a police officer. He worked for six different agencies in four years. Grayson, while still enlisted in the U.S. Army, had two DUI convictions. Army. Grayson’s discharge from the Army noted a “serious misconduct,” which Campbell interpreted as his DUI charges. The file did not detail what the misconduct was. In 2022, a woman accused him of sexual harassment while on the job. He denies any wrongdoing.

Campbell previously said he felt Grayson “betrayed” members of the sheriff’s department. Campbell said the department “failed the community.” at a U.S. Department of Justice hearing in Springfield last month. “We failed Sonya, we failed Sonya’s family and friends.” In his statement, he said: “I was overwhelmingly elected to lead the Sheriff’s Office through both good times and bad. I am fully prepared to continue leading my office and serving the residents of Sangamon County through this difficult period, ensuring we learn from this tragedy and work toward a better future.” Grayson’s next criminal hearing is on August 26.

LL Cool J Says Kendrick Lamar’s Beef Tactics Against Drake Were “The Funniest Sh*t In The World”

LL Cool J heaped praise on Kendrick Lamar for his tactics against Drake in their ongoing feud. Speaking about the beef during an interview with Ray Daniels Media, he labeled Lamar’s cover art for “Not Like Us” the “funniest sh*t in the world.”

“This sh*t is crazy,” he remarked. “This ain’t got nothing to do with nothing but its the funniest sh*t in the world. It’s bananas. That kinda thinking, you have to respect that.” When DJ Akademiks shared the take on Instagram, fans had mixed responses. “Putting false claims on a man name is not funny it’s corny. Kbot a cold hater,” one user wrote. Another added: ‘All fun n games till someone do it to you.”

LL Cool J also discussed how rap beefs have evolved over the years. “This generation, they think much more multilayered,” he argued. “The thinking is far more layered. The thinking used to be kinda like– back in the days it was like, ‘Okay, you do the song.’ That was it. Then it transitioned to, ‘You do the song and you do the video.’ Now, it transitioned to, ‘You do the song, you do the video, you have a brand, you do a book, you have the movie, you have the music. You monetize it. You have a platform.’ The layering of the thought process is completely different.” From there, he explained that there’s a lesson to be learned for established artists from the youth. Their love for Beyonce is so strong that if you show any sort of disliking toward her, it’s on sight with them.

Megan Thee Stallion and Big Glo also talk about the first few times they met Beyonce. For both of them, they were so starstruck. Ty Dolla Sign Mistakenly Thought “Vultures 2” Topped The Charts Leading To Jokes From Fans

Ty Dolla Sign mistakenly remarked that his collaborative album with Kanye West, Vultures 2, went No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart during a recent concert. “Number one motherf*cking album, man,” he told the crowd before performing the track, “Promotion.” Despite the comments, Vultures 2 actually landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 behind Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department. It was that project’s 14th week atop the album chart.

Expectedly, fans on social media trolled Ty in response to the slip-up. “Old head saw himself #1 on Apple Music and thought it was billboard,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another joked: “I mean we can all pretend Taylor Swift never existed and I’m good with that.” One more user wrote: “TY so funny man he be having no idea at all.”

After selling 107,000 equivalent units in its first week, Vultures 2 failed to overtake The Tortured Poets Department, resulting in the end of Kanye West‘s streak of 11 consecutive number-one albums. That record previously held on by a technicality when Ye’s collaborative album with Kid Cudi, Kids See Ghosts, failed to top the chart but was released under their separate name as a duo. West and Ty brought along several top artists to help them with Vultures 2, including Playboi Carti, Don Toliver, Kodak Black, Future, Lil Wayne, and many more. The charts aren’t the only place the project has struggled, however. Reviewers have also been highly critical of the project, as it wasn’t released in a finished state.

Dr. Dre Wants To Try Out For The 2028 Summer Olympics

After a highly successful Summer Olympic Games in Paris, they passed the flag over to Los Angeles. The City of Angels is hosting the event in 2028, and it will certainly be a star-studded affair. Long Beach native Snoop Dogg, who served as a correspondent during the last two Games, will be unlikely to miss such a homecoming opportunity. The same goes for his partner-in-crime, Dr. Dre. Dre and Snoop performed at a special event on Venice Beach to celebrate the handoff. Now, Dre confirms that he will be in Los Angeles in four years. It is reasonable to assume that he will perform at the opening ceremony. However, he surprised fans when he told Nischelle Turner of Entertainment Tonight that he plans to try out for Olympic competition.

In the interview, Dre announced that he plans to try out for the 2028 Olympics. When Turner asked what sport he was interested in, he gave a surprising answer. “Archery,” he said. “I’m deadass serious.” Dre admitted that he’s been an avid archer for much of his life. He revealed to Turner that he had been on his junior high school’s archery team. He took a break from the sport when his music career blossomed into what it is today, but picked it back up when his son bought him equipment for Father’s Day.

Dr. Dre To Try Out For Olympic Archery In 2028

“I have it set up in my backyard and I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet. I practice at 90,” Dre added. If he qualifies for the 2028 Summer Olympics, he would be among the oldest athletes to ever compete. He would be 63 years old in Los Angeles. The oldest athlete to compete at the 2024 Paris Games was Juan Antonio Jiménez Cobo, a Spanish equestrian.

Aside from his Olympic dreams, Dre has enjoyed a strong year. He and Snoop Dogg are working on Missionary, the long-awaited sequel to Snoop’s legendary debut album Doggystyle. He made a cameo at Kendrick Lamar’s The Pop Out concert, playing “California Love” before introducing “Not Like Us,” which Lamar played five times. Dre is aiming high for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, and being able to compete in front of his hometown would be an unforgettable honor.

Tyler, The Creator has proven again and again that he is an artist’s artist. He truly tries to evolve and experiment with sounds, textures, and genres, to bring a different listening experience to each project. It’s why he’s become one of the biggest names in hip-hop, especially over the last several years or so. It’s been quite a bit since we got a new project from the California chameleon, with CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST being the most recent in 2021. We did get the extended version, The Estate Sale in 2023, but not a truly fresh and separate LP. We are going to hear him collaborate with A$AP Rocky again when DON’T BE DUMB drops on August 30.

While we continue to hope for new music, Tyler, The Creator is sharing some pretty blunt comments/opinions on the current landscape of hip-hop. This is nothing new as he is going to speak out if he feels passionate about something. In this case, the IGOR creator is putting a lot of the new rappers on blast for not respecting the art form and thus do not deserve the musician title. In a repost from NFR Podcast, the clip sees Tyler sitting down with Maverick Carter, a close friend and collaborator of LeBron James.

Tyler, The Creator Thinks A Lot Of Rappers Aren’t True Musicians

He hosts his own show called Mavericks which is produced by Bron and Mav’s media company, SpringHill. His sit-down with Tyler will air on YouTube tomorrow, August 14, according to the teaser. In the short preview, he says, “There are so many n****s out right now who aren’t musicians, that are getting treated like musicians because they make meme records”, he states. Later, Tyler adds, “[They] publicly will be like, ‘I don’t give a f*** about music, I just do this s*** for money’”. Hilariously, at the end of the video, there’s an audio bite of Tyler saying that someone’s going to take this out of context. We will have to wait to hear the full conversation, but it seems pretty clear cut to us that Tyler doesn’t have a lot of respect for this new wave of talent.
