Amanda Reifer Feels Like A “Woman Now” On New Single

Amanda Reifer is coming out with her new album The Reifer Tapes very soon, and before we get that full treat, she’s giving us yet another appetizer. Moreover, the Barbadian singer and songwriter just released her latest single “Woman Now,” and it’s a much more dramatic and full-fledged piece of drama than her previous singles. These included the “B***h Like Me” intro, the “In And Out” and “Devastating” interludes, and the cut “Colonize.”

As for “Woman Now,” Sounwave, Take A Daytrip, and company’s production on here starts off on a ghostly, eerie note. High-pitched pianos, whistles, and airy pads sound like smoke coming through a window until the drums burst in and the melodies come more alive. Amanda Reifer does a great job of matching this sense of grandeur, tension, and conflict with an eccentric and stretched-out vocal performance. While it’s not the most original sound in the world in isolation, the fusions of these treatments and moods makes for a very engaging record. If this is what The Reifer Tapes will hold, then we’re in for a very unique experience.

Lyrically, “Woman Now” seems to focus on the push-and-pull of romance and whether or not Amanda Reifer can control herself from going after a potential partner. This track makes that conflict come alive in a pretty compelling way, even if what’s under the surface doesn’t sound all too complicated on paper. Then again, that’s exactly what passionate and engrossing songs like this aim to achieve in the first place.

Amanda Reifer’s “Woman Now”

Quotable Lyrics
Maybe I just fantasize this one,
Stay on my mind, thеn no damage done,
‘Cause no turning back if it’s onе-on-one,
Me on my back, then it’s done-and-done

6ix9ine Immediately Records New Music After Getting Out Of Jail

6ix9ine just got out of jail for violating his probation terms, and he apparently wasted no time in getting himself back on track. Moreover, a clip recently surfaced of some new music, which he apparently recorded just minutes after getting out of prison. The actual timeline around all these events – as well as whether or not this new material will even officially drop – is still pretty unclear, but it seems like the New York artist wants to return to the recording industry quite quickly. For those unaware, he signed quite the massive deal with Kartel Records before this recent stint behind bars, but his actual future as a recording artist might be in jeopardy.

Furthermore, 6ix9ine’s new probation terms include orders for him to get a clean and full-time job, and it’s unclear whether the court will accept “recording artist” as a sufficient profession. After all, that very same notoriety, access, and success in the music industry is what exacerbated and publicized much of his legal trouble over the years. Maybe a more specific ruling down the line will clarify this debacle.

6ix9ine Returns From Jail With New Music

Elsewhere, 6ix9ine’s most recent prison stint also drew headlines for some bizarre reasons tied to much larger and more pressing pop culture stories. He served time at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, the same institution from which Diddy awaits updates in his federal trial for alleged sex trafficking. Authorities ordered that these two individuals had to stay isolated from each other, presumably to minimize the attention that they would generate and receive as celebrity inmates. Sometimes, these assignments and decisions can come from a more random place. But we’re willing to bet that the MDC in Brooklyn put more thought into this… Maybe.

Regardless, 6ix9ine had previously pledged to stay “squeaky clean” before this arrest, so maybe Kartel Music is second-guessing themselves right now. For that reason, we have to wait and see whether or not this new music actually comes out in one way or another and how it will tie into his legal troubles. It’s been a long and exhausting saga so far that doesn’t seem to have lost its gas.

Ian Is Ditching The Negativity On “No Way”

Dallas rapper ian seemingly came out of nowhere in 2024. His debut mixtape, Valedictorian, churned some critics stomachs, but also turned some heads. He likes to borrow from artists like Chief Keef and Future, while putting a bit of a cloud rap aesthetic over it. Then, just a few months later, he would go on to drop his debut album, Goodbye Horses. This effort once again got some similar response from the in-depth analyzers, but his cult following remains strong. This sudden success has led to some backlash from his contemporaries as well, especially Tyler, The Creator. Love him or hate him, he’s been having a banner year, and it’s led to some major collaborations, tours, and respectable numbers on streaming.

But despite all of that, and with 2024 coming to a close, you would think ian would be fine just moving into 2025. But no, he’s come back again this weekend with some new material. This time, it’s a new track called “No Way.” Based on a recent post to his Instagram announcing a part two to his ian US tour, this cut seems to be more of a loosie rather than a single. However, we feel it’s one of his best songs to date. The topical focus on separating yourself from badgering haters while winning in the process is always going to hit home. It’s a relatable listen and the production sounds much more polished and put together compared to some of his material from earlier this year. Go check it out with the link below.

Polo G Shows Sensitive Side With New Single “Thug Memorials”

Polo G has been through a lot. You can hear it in his voice, you can decipher it in his lyrics. He doesn’t attempt to hide his experiences, which is why fans connect with him so deeply. The rapper was caught up in legal troubles as recently as this week. Polo G’s music has always been where he excels, though, and “Thug Memorials” is the latest testament. The single sees the rapper wax poetic on those he’s lost over the years, courtesy of a classic R. Kelly sample.

Polo G delves right in with the first voice. The rapper details how much emotional pain he felt when he attended a friend’s funeral. The description of the scene is heartbreaking, and the musical backdrop embellishes it even further. “I was so lost for words, couldn’t even cry up at your funeral,” Polo G spits. “I come from that corner where the hustlers trap and shooters shoot. Straight-eights and Scat Packs, they ain’t slidin’ in no Subaru.” It’s an economic couplet, conveying not only the loss but sense of belonging that has afflicted both him and his late friends. “Thug Memorials” is Polo G at his most sincere, and therefore his finest.

Rio Da Yung Og Drops A Minimal Banger With “RIO FREE” Single

Rio Da Yung Og is not an artist with a tremendous amount of range. He doesn’t genre hop or push boundaries by any means. He makes hard-hitting trap music and he does it well. Rio Da Yung Og is precisely what you think he is, and when he hits, he hits hard. “RIO FREE” is a prime example. The new song is short, simple and extremely catchy. It sees the rapper hop on a trunk-knocking instrumental and spit bars about how great he is. It’s easy to get caught up in the fun.

Rio Da Yung Og’s bars are fun if not especially profound. They have a specificity to them that helps them to stand out from the bars written by Rio’s peers. “He used to be the brick man, he doin’ burpees now, I ain’t never cook the dope, C learned me how,” he spits. “I wake up and go get me some chicken like Thursday chow.” There’s personality bleeding through the speakers. The instrumental isn’t anything that fans haven’t heard before, but the Wayne beat is solid and consistent. Rio Da Yung Og is not reinventing the wheel here, but he’s giving fans a very entertaining wheel.

Playboi Carti Teases New Collaborations With Mustard And Lil Baby

Playboi Carti is really toying with fans at this point. The rapper and stopped and started the rollout for his new album so many times its hard to keep count. It seemed like I AM MUSIC was going to come out once he dropped the lead single, “ALL RED,” but fans have remained in the dark when it comes to a tracklist or a release date. The last week has seen Playboi Carti drop hints as to what the album could have in store, though. The rapper not only dropped a song snippet, but screenshots of text conversations between him and other superstar artists.

Playboi Carti posted the text screenshots to his social media on December 15. They saw him reach out to the likes of Lil Baby and Mustard for collaborations. The first screenshot appears to be an exchange with Lil Baby’s manager, Cash XO. The manager texted Playboi Carti to confirm new music between the stars. “Wham,” he wrote. “Carti lock each other in family!” Carti texted back: “Yes sir.” These two linking up has worked wonders in the past, as evidenced by the track “Too Easy.” They’ve yet to come together for a hit record, though, which makes the prospect of them back together especially exciting.

Playboi Carti Previously Claimed No Features On His Album

Playboi Carti and Mustard is an extremely unexpected connection. The two artists could not be further apart in terms of style and musical approach. Carti is all pockets and rage rap outbursts. Mustard, on the other hand, is smooth, G-Funk influenced gangsta rap. Nevertheless, Mustard sees the vision, and made a point of reaching out to the “ALL RED” rapper. “Man let’s cook twin,” he messaged Carti via Instagram. Playboi Carti didn’t show his response, but he did post a screenshot of the message on his IG Stories.

GloRilla Puts A Memphis Spin On Holiday Music With Kehlani-Assisted “Xmas Time”

GloRilla has received a lot of gifts in the form of nominations, awards, and plaques in 2024. She sort of acknowledges that fact on her new song, “Xmas Time.” “And I might’ve had a Christmas that I ain’t get a thing that was on my wish list / I celebrated still because I knew that I was gifted / (Put that on the gang) / I’m just one of God’s children.” This is the Memphis MC’s first crack at making a holiday-themed track and it’s got an interesting twist in its second half. Kehlani, a first-time collaborator, is also on here, and provides a sweet and thoughtful chorus.

It’s part of the reason why part two is so off the wall. With frequent producers like Ace Charisma and Yo Gotti on here, it definitely raised some questions as to where this song might go. Well, it turns out that it becomes a Memphis trap Christmas banger. Bells and piano keys accent the dirty bass and kick drums synonymous with the city’s hip-hop roots as Big Glo gets a little more PG-13 compared to its PG first half. While it’s a bit of a mish-mosh of tones and sounds, it’s got some great messages and personal touches that give it that Christmas spirit. You can check out “Xmas Time” with the live performance video link below.

Tory Lanez Makes His Support For Drake Crystal Clear On New Verse

Tory Lanez is back with a new verse from behind bars, and unsurprisingly, it stirred up a lot of conversation. Of course, this is not like his Lost Tapes series of vault picks and unreleased gems, but a more fresh perspective altogether. One of the most interesting parts of the Brampton rapper and singer’s new verse, which lands on DDG’s “HANDLING BUSINESS,” concerns some references to his fellow Canadian, Drake. “I be up praying and waiting for the day that n***as come for me the way they did Drizzy,” he raps on the cut. “I got the card in the wallet, and big brodie’s problems are my problems, so f**k how you feelin’ about it / Brodie gone stand on his own, but 2024, it ain’t no fair ones in Toronto.”

While this is most likely in reference to the explosive battle between Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and so many others this year, it could also be seen as a regular comment on the consequences of fame. Either way, Tory Lanez has come a long way when it comes to the 6ix God. They previously had beef in the mid-2010s or so, but for years now, they’ve kept that hatchet buried in the dirt.

Tory Lanez Shouts Out Drake On New Song

Another notable part of this new Tory Lanez verse is when he seems to address the night of the Megan Thee Stallion shooting at a Kylie Jenner party. “The only one thing I regret on that night, is jumping up outta the pool with Kylie,” he raps on the song. That whole saga continues to this day, although it also concerns more of a fanbase war in addition to all the legal updates.

Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion’s legal action against YouTuber Milagro Gramz now alleges that Tory Lanez conspired with Gramz to launch a campaign against Megan by allegedly relaying false information. Along with other appeals, motions for reversal, and additional claims, this shooting situation is still incredibly delicate. But at least other conflicts, such as the Drake beef, remain firm in their resolution. Hopefully one day Tory can also fully move past his conviction and focus on other endeavors while doing time.

Snoop Dogg, Eminem, & 50 Cent Finally Collaborate On One Song With “Gunz N Smoke”

A legendary cast has just been assembled on “Gunz N Smoke.” This is one of 16 new tracks from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre and all of them are packaged on Missionary. It’s their first album together since Doggystyle back in 1993, and it’s been one of the most anticipated hip-hop listens of the year. So far, fans are really loving the record, and it feels like we are in a mini revival of sorts. A lot of MCs from the 90s and 2000s are dropping some very solid bodies of work, and it’s been another reason why the genre has been riding high all 2024.

One track that we had to put the spotlight on though is “Gunz N Smoke.” Believe it or not, this is the first time that Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Eminem have all been on the same track. It’s quite the shocking fact, but as the saying goes, “it’s better late than never.” It’s a straight up gangsta and hardcore hip-hop cut, with Fif setting the tone perfectly. It’s not the most lyrical verse out of the three, but it definitely does its job. Snoop follows next, and he finds a pocket immediately and skates all over the percussive-heavy beat. Slim Shady ties things up nicely with a mini retelling of his life as a teen and how he wanted to get famous by any means necessary. Now that he’s older, he’s not as willing to pick fights, but will if duty calls.

BNYX And Lil Yachty Sound Elite While “Smoking In The Rain”

BNYX has a sound that’s difficult to pin down. The producer is able to fall into line and make music that sounds comfortable for artists as varied as Yeat and LAWSON. This unpredictably makes him a perfect pairing for Lil Yachty. Boat has also spent the last few years bucking trends, and subverting the sound he cultivated in the late 2010s. “Smoking In the Rain” is a perfect marriage of BNYX and Yachty’s aesthetic interests. Its bubbly and electronic, evoking some of the latter’s production techniques. It also has an odd and bouncy chorus, courtesy of Lil Yachty.

The beat is the real story here. The synth leads cut through everything else on the track like a machete, giving off a futuristic feel. It’s smooth and metallic, but Lil Yachty brings the imperfections. The rapper’s warbly singing creates a fascinating tension with BNYX’s production. Things never stay in place for too long, so it’s impossible to get tired of it. “Smoking In the Rain” isn’t a smash hit. It is, however, a unique and genre-bending collaboration between guys who love to push boundaries. In truth, it’s one of the catchiest things Lil Yachty has put out in a while. Hopefully we get to hear him on more BNYX beats in the future.
