Joyner Lucas Pays Homage To Mac Miller On “Seventeen”

Joyner Lucas’ long string of singles continues with another release on September 8. The Worcester Massachusetts rapper recently put out “Seventeen” ahead of his next full-length project, Not Now, I’m Busy. Lucas attempted this same formula for his first album back in 2020, ADHD. For the rollout of that LP, he went on to drop nine singles starting in October 2018. ADHD did not hit streaming until March of 2020. Will he give the same type of treatment for Not Now, I’m Busy? We will have to wait and see because according to HipHopNMore there is no timetable for when we will receive his fifth project.

In the meantime, Joyner is back with his sixth lead single, “Seventeen.” On this cut, he is spitting about his come-up from his rough upbringing. On the first verse, he talks about manifesting his dreams from when he was a kid. He raps, “They never knew that one day all this s*** I be dreamin’ about, I’d be livin’ it (Ayy) / Jump out the window and took the advantage, I know my potential is limitless (Joyner).”

The real selling point of this song is the sample. When the instrumental begins the high-pitched kid vocals might ring a bell to you. They are familiar because they are the ones in Mac Miller’s smash hit “Donald Trump.” Miller passed away five years ago on September 7 and it is fitting that “Seventeen was released just one day after the anniversary of his passing. Lucas shouts out Mac at the beginning saying, “Rest in peace Mac Miller,” while he recreates an opening shot from the “Donald Trump” music video. All in all, it is a solid track that pays its respects to one of the truly special talents in hip-hop history.

Lil Peep And ILOVEMAKONNEN Bring Their Talents Together To Make “DIAMONDS”

Lil Peep’s legacy continues to live on with the release of this new posthumous release with ILOVEMAKONNEN. DIAMONDS is not the first example of these two getting in the studio together. On Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2, both rappers appear on a bonus track called “Sunlight On Your Skin.” Following that, in 2019, the pairing released a single, “I’ve Been Waiting,” which made it onto the final product, in the form of an OG version. Furthermore, “November” is on the effort too, with it being the third single. The album is quite long with 21 tracks and nearly hitting the 90-minute mark.

Before Peep’s passing on November 15, 2017, the emo-rap legend announced this project was going to be available. Obviously, though, it has not come out until September 8, 2023. But, the excitement behind this work from Peep was contagious. “When he came home in August, he played those songs for us — over and over. Gus was incredibly proud of those songs,” said Peep’s mother Liza Womack to Rolling Stone.

The chemistry is apparent on this collaboration LP. What is important to note is this is Peep’s last fully completed album, according to his estate. In a statement with Pitchfork, Liza was extremely grateful for MAKONNEN and the whole team for the effort they put into this project so it could be released in the way Peep would have wanted it to be. She says, “I am very grateful to Makonnen not only for his patience, grace, and fortitude, but also for the tenderness with which he re-assembled the original “Diamonds Team” to gently prepare the album for its release. He did an amazing job—they all did. Gus would be so proud to know that this album had come out. He would be grateful to his friends for taking the time and care to do it just right.”

Slick Rick Is Working On A New Album: Report

According to photographer Jonathan Mannion, Slick Rick could be dropping a new album in the near future. Mannion recently opened up about working with Slick Rick, claiming that the rapper told him about his upcoming project. The LP would be the UK-born performer’s first new album in more than two decades. Mannion shared the news on Instagram, alongside a photo of himself sitting with Slick Rick and sipping on some champagne.

“REASONING. This man has lived a helluva life to reach this current calm,” the photographer began his caption. “Blessed to have received the call that the new album was on the way… a fresh new approach to tunes, now with newly created legendary photos to match. We collaborate well.” He went on to detail his experience photographing the acclaimed storyteller, and how he got the bling he’s shown wearing around his neck.

Slick Rick Reportedly Dropping First New Album In Over Two Decades

“As I did the first time that I ever photographed the incomparable @therulernyc in 1998, I brought champagne to toast him,” he continued. “@moetchandon always flowing. I was also ‘knighted’ again… a renewal of vows, of sorts… with nearly every piece of his legendary gold, platinum, diamond encrusted heavy metal available weighing down my neck. Beyond honored!” Judging by the comments section, fans can’t wait to hear the 58-year-old’s next project.

If Mannion’s account proves to be true, the new album will follow Slick Rick’s 1999 full-length album, The Art of Storytelling. That album houses famous tracks like “Street Talkin’” featuring OutKast, “Memories,” “I Run This,” and more. The album turned 24 back in May, after hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart upon its release. Praised for his authenticity, Slick Rick shared his vision with The Guardian in 2016. “I think what I brought to hip-hop was a visual, storybook-type of a style,” he explained. “Like reading a children’s book, but in rap form.” Keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on Slick Rick.

Roddy Ricch Seeking Joint Custody Of His Young Son

Recently, Roddy Ricch entered a custody battle with ex-girlfriend Alexandra Kiser. In a recent petition Kiser submitted she is asking for full custody of the pair’s 3-year-old son and the reasons given are alarming. According to AllHipHop, she claims that Roddy is addicted to Promethazine and “prioritizes being high over being a father to their child.” She’s also asking for 20k a month in child support from the rapper. He’s been ordered to pay 24k a month temporarily while the court proceedings unfold.

There are even more and perhaps even worse allegations directed at Roddy Ricch in the petition. Kiser claims that Roddy still has gang affiliations, while also specifically citing an instance where she and their son were evicted from a house Roddy owned despite him having the money to pay for it. She also gave a peek into the artist’s financial side claiming that he earned more than $10 million in 2022 alone. Finally, she claimed that he is worth more than $25 million and asks for fees of $500,000 for any appearances. Ricch hasn’t responded to any of the allegations made against him, but he is requesting joint custody of the child.

Roddy Ricch has previewed new music a couple of times in the past few months. Firstly he just shared a snippet to social media which garnered a mixed reaction from fans. He ended up previewing even more new music on his Instagram live a few days later. That time it went much worse with fans leaving the livestream in bulk and criticizing his new material in the comments.

Roddy Ricch dropped his Feed The Streets III mixtape late last year. The project had appearances from Ty Dolla $ign and Lil Durk and debuted in the top 15 of the Billboard 200. Since then, she’s turned her focus toward releasing singles that are more unique, such as “Fruit Loop” and, more recently, “Chocolate Rain.” The latter single hit DSPs on Friday (September 8), and finds the Southern starlet bringing her signature, upbeat and braggadocious bars to our attention over production by Young Fyre. “Passive aggressive / I’m sexy, obsessive,” the underrated rhymer’s first verse begins. “That closet, impressive / She messy, possessive.”

Flo Milli Delivers “Chocolate Rain” Ahead of Her Next Album

Making it known that she’s proud of how far she’s come since launching her career in the industry, Flo later rhymes, “I just woke up to like three hundred bookings / Girl, we ain’t the same, you a rookie.” Following that comes flirtatious lines like “Damn, I know he want all my goodies / Taste the Nutella when he eat the cookie, ha” that she’s become so well known for.

The official release date for Fine Ho, Stay has yet to be revealed, but seeing as the “19” hitmaker announced that she’ll be headed out on tour soon, it likely won’t be long before we have more updates. DaBaby Drops “FUKUMEAN” And “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” Freestyles

The Ohio-born performer has been leaning into freestyling quite a bit as of late, dropping one off over 23-year-old Bronx drill rapper Ice Spice’s “Deli” beat earlier this week. DaBaby also recently put his spin on Young Nudy’s 2023 Gumbo track featuring 21 Savage, “Peaches & Eggplants.” Now, he’s tapped one of the most successful tracks from Gunna’s album, A Gift & a Curse, “FUKUMEAN.”

In a new clip, he’s seen spitting bars over the viral beat, and controversially calling for Young Thug’s release from prison. “When I hit from the back make her holla ‘free Thug,’” he raps. Famously, Gunna’s accused of “snitching” on the YSL figurehead amid the label’s RICO case. He’s since gotten a great deal of backlash, a lot of which surrounded his new album. Regardless of the scandal, the album has managed to be successful, and listeners seem to have enjoyed it. DaBaby embodies his signature carefree flow on this latest freestyle, centering his rhymes mostly around women.

Young Nudy’s “Peaches & Eggplants” with 21 Savage dropped all the way back in February and is still hovering around the middle of the Hot 100. It currently sits at number 59 and is likely to bounce back even higher, potentially even to its former peak of number 49 next week. That jump could be even higher as a result of a new remix released overnight, and the accompanying music video that dropped today.

Two of the most notable female rappers of 2023, Sexyy Red and Latto, jump on the song with verses of their own. They also teamed up to star in an accompanying music video where they absolutely steal the show. As you’d expect the video is pretty raunchy and the eggplant imagery is all over the place.
