Lil Peep’s Estate Shares Three Recordings On New EP “HATE ME”

Even after Lil Peep’s tragic passing back in November of 2017, the fans have continued to show immense support. A huge reason for this is because of the rapper’s mother Liza Womack. She had a sweet message for the undying supporters when she helped rollout the original version of Come Over When You’re Sober , Pt. 2. “I encourage Gus’s fans to enjoy the music that Gus created, listened to, and loved.” It was clear that they had a beautiful and loving mother/son relationship and it makes it all the more saddening that he is still not with us today.

To help carry on the spirit of Lil Peep, his team has just put out a short project called HATE ME. It is an EP with three tracks, all recorded back in October of 2016. For context, that is when Peep released his first two projects, crybaby and HELLBOY. According to Genius, these recordings were pushed by First Access Entertainment, a UK-founded company that has its subsidiary label called Access Records.

Apparently, they wanted Lil Peep to go more radio-friendly and mainstream with these tracks. But, they encouraged him to keep the same lyrical content we are used to hearing from the emo rap legend. It features two “og versions” for “Spotlight” and “Hate Me.” The first of the two was a track with EDM superstar Marshmello, while the latter was on Come Over When You’re Sober , Pt. 2.

How Lil Peep’s Tragic Death Still Resonates To This Day

Nov. 15, 2023, marks six years since the tragic death of rapper Lil Peep, who died at the age of 21 in 2017. The death of Lil Peep shocked the music industry and exposed a concerning pattern of drug overdoses among artists and other public figures. 

R.I.P Lil Peep

Lil Peep passed away from an accidental overdose of Fentanyl and Xanax. After his death, toxicology tests revealed the presence of cannabis, cocaine, and the painkiller Tramadol in his system. 

Urine tests further indicated the existence of several potent opioids, including hydrocodone, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), oxycodone, and oxymorphone. Notably, there was no alcohol detected in his system.

Since then, the industry has mourned the loss of influential figures like Mac Miller, Juice WRLD, and, more recently, Angus Cloud. Here are some of the most tragic losses following Lil Peep’s death that resulted in a drug overdose:

Mac Miller

Mac Miller, the most influential rapper, fell victim to drug addiction. On September 7, 2018, Miller died from a toxic combination of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol at the age of 26. 

Juice WRLD

Juice WRLD, prominent for his resurgence of “emo rap,” also succumbed to drug addiction. His death was caused by an oxycodone and codeine overdose, where he passed away at the age of 21, on December 8, 2019. 

Lexi Alijae

Lexi Alijae, an emerging artist and the granddaughter of funk band Zapp‘s founder, Roger Troutman, tragically passed away at 21 years old from an accidental overdose of fentanyl and ethanol (alcohol) on January 1, 2020.

Shock G

Shock G, a member of the legendary hip-hop group Digital Underground, passed away at the age of 57, from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and alcohol on April 22, 2021.

Michael K. Williams

Michael K. Williams, known for his roles in The Wire and Lovecraft Country, fell victim to a drug overdose. Williams, aged 54, died from a heroin laced with fentanyl on September 6, 2021. The drug dealer who sold Williams the drugs is now facing up to 10 years in prison following the actor’s death. 

Coolio

Coolio, the iconic rapper behind “Gangsta’s Paradise,” lost his life at 59 due to an accidental overdose of fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine on September 22, 2022. 

Big Scarr

Emerging hip-hop artist Big Scarr, who was signed to Gucci Mane’s label, succumbed to an accidental prescription drug overdose at just 22 years old on December 22, 2022. 

Gangsta Boo

Gangsta Boo, a prominent member of Three Six Mafia, met a similar fate. Her accidental overdose involving fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol at the age of 43 on January 1, 2023. 

Angus Cloud

Angus Cloud, known for portraying Fezco in the popular series Euphoria, tragically passed away at 25. Cloud was found at his family’s residence in Oakland, California, and was pronounced dead upon arrival. 

His final days were marked by grief over the recent loss of his father. Angus died of a fatal combination of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and benzodiazepines. The actor departed on July 31, 2023, just 21 days after celebrating his birthday on July 10.

Lil Peep Rereleases “Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2” With The OG Version

Lil Peep’s musical presence was extremely prominent while he was still alive. However, it may be even stronger now even after he tragically passed on November 15, 2017. It is crazy to imagine that it has been six years already. But, as we said, his legacy is still being felt to this day.

His loving mother, Liza Womack, has made sure that her son’s incredibly supportive fan base gets to hear as much music from him as possible. A little bit ago, she, along with the help of Peep’s estate, got out a collaborative project with a close friend of his, ILOVEMAKONNEN. DIAMONDS featured a hefty 21 tracks and gave a good glimpse into what these two were cooking up together. Womack, though, wanted to spread more of Lil Peep’s work out to the masses.

Listen To Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2 (OG Version) By Lil Peep

Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2 was a favorite of many. She was able to dig up some files from Peep’s GarageBand sessions. It removes the two bonus tracks with MAKONNEN and XXXTENTACION, and adds the track, “in the car.” The reason for this coming out now is to celebrate the project’s five-year anniversary. Womack shared some touching words about the album on her Instagram. “These songs were exported directly from Gus’s [Peep’s] GarageBand sessions on his computer in the highest audio quality possible.

Thank you to the producers who have educated us on this journey. I encourage Gus’s fans to enjoy the music that Gus created, listened to, and loved. Thank you to the PeeP team that made it happen.”

Lil Peep And ILOVEMAKONNEN Bring Their Talents Together To Make “DIAMONDS”

Lil Peep’s legacy continues to live on with the release of this new posthumous release with ILOVEMAKONNEN. DIAMONDS is not the first example of these two getting in the studio together. On Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2, both rappers appear on a bonus track called “Sunlight On Your Skin.” Following that, in 2019, the pairing released a single, “I’ve Been Waiting,” which made it onto the final product, in the form of an OG version. Furthermore, “November” is on the effort too, with it being the third single. The album is quite long with 21 tracks and nearly hitting the 90-minute mark.

Before Peep’s passing on November 15, 2017, the emo-rap legend announced this project was going to be available. Obviously, though, it has not come out until September 8, 2023. But, the excitement behind this work from Peep was contagious. “When he came home in August, he played those songs for us — over and over. Gus was incredibly proud of those songs,” said Peep’s mother Liza Womack to Rolling Stone.

The chemistry is apparent on this collaboration LP. What is important to note is this is Peep’s last fully completed album, according to his estate. In a statement with Pitchfork, Liza was extremely grateful for MAKONNEN and the whole team for the effort they put into this project so it could be released in the way Peep would have wanted it to be. She says, “I am very grateful to Makonnen not only for his patience, grace, and fortitude, but also for the tenderness with which he re-assembled the original “Diamonds Team” to gently prepare the album for its release. He did an amazing job—they all did. Gus would be so proud to know that this album had come out. He would be grateful to his friends for taking the time and care to do it just right.”

Lil Peep’s Tattoos & Their Meanings

Late rapper Lil Peep was best known for his iconic “emo-rap” sound. At a young age, he found great success in the underground and mainstream alternative Hip-Hop scenes. Since his death at 21 in 2017, Peep’s legacy has grown posthumously, as his unique sound has been difficult to replicate, despite attempts by other rappers. In addition to his music, Peep was also famous for his eccentric look and tattoos. He had around 59 at the time of his death and explained the meanings behind many of them. Let’s look at some of Peep’s ink and what they meant to him.

Most Famous Tattoos

One of Peep’s most famous tattoos is the word “PEEP” on his left arm. This is, of course, his rap name under which all of his music was released. In addition to this being his moniker, it was also a nickname given to Peep by his mother when he was a child. Another of Peep’s most iconic tattoos is the word “CryBaby” tatted over his right eyebrow. Peep said he got this because he often complained a lot when he was young. The tattoo also references his third mixtape, CryBaby, which was released in June 2016.

Peep also had another one of his mixtape titles tattooed on his body. He got “HELLBOY” inked on his neck after his first mixtape of the same name, released in 2016. This mixtape was his first full-length release and led to his rise in popularity as an artist. Peep also enjoyed the comic book Hell and its character, Hellboy. Additionally, the rapper had the words “Get Cake Die Young” tattooed on his forehead. In a video shoot for GQ, Peep joked that he woke up one morning and found this tattoo on his face. He claimed to have no idea who gave him the tattoo or where he got it from.

Lil Peep Loved Halloween

However, one that Peep did intentionally get was his birth date, “11-1,” tattooed on his stomach. He also has many other Halloween-themed tattoos referencing his birthday, including a jack-o-lantern and bats. He also received a centipede on his left arm. Regarding this tattoo, he stated, “I hate these centipedes, and they seem to find me and bother me every time. So, I figured to get one tattooed on me”.

Family & Personal Tattoos

Peep had the initials “LKW” and the date “10-27” for his mother, Liza Womack, tattooed on his arm. This was his first tattoo at age 14, and he got it on his mother’s birthday as a present to her. He stated that this was the first thing he decided to get inked because he did not want her to be mad at him for getting a tattoo. Peep also got the Simpsons character Lisa Simpson screaming with the word “Mom” above it on his neck for his mother. He said this represented his relationship with his mother. “Whenever something is going wrong in my life, I call my mom. I stress her the f*ck out.” In addition to familial tattoos for his mom, Peep also got a drawing of his pet dog, Meep, along with the dog’s name on his lower left leg. He said he bought the dog with his ex-girlfriend, and Meep was like a son to him.

He tatted the Pink Panther cartoon character on his neck while visiting Venice with his friends. He shared he got so bored during the trip that he decided to go to a random tattoo shop, which had a pink interior, and thus inspired him to get the Pink Panther tattooed on his neck. Peep also tattooed the Anarchy logo on his left cheek because his followers were trying to look like him, and he wanted to stand out. These were personal to Peep and show the distinctive and eccentric style that separated him from many of his contemporaries.

Peep’s Favorite & Final Tattoos

Peep stated that the “Crying Mickey Mouse” on his arm was his favorite out of all his tattoos. It resembles a low-quality depiction of the Disney character with “Mood” written beneath it. Peep stated this was his favorite tattoo because it described his low-quality mood with a low-quality tattoo. There was also a broken heart beneath his eye. This was Peep’s first face tattoo, and he said it inspired him to get motivated to make more music because now, he couldn’t get a regular job. Another of Peep’s favorites was a scorpion tattoo on the back of his neck, as his zodiac sign was Scorpio.

An apparent favorite seemed to be a tattoo of a drawing by Ed Hardy on his head. Hardy is a world-renowned tattoo artist who transitioned his art to the world of fashion. The drawing on Peep’s head was done by Hardy for an exhibition at Dean Dennis’ tattoo studio. After he got the ink, Peep posted it on his Instagram with the caption, “My new head tat OG hardy.” In another post, he also uploaded a tattoo of a tribal design on his arm. Peep got this one to cover up his ex-girlfriend Layla’s name. “Lil peep brought tribal back and covered up his ex-girlfriends name cuz why the f*ck did I do that lol,” he wrote.

Final Tattoo

Many of his fans nicknamed Peep’s final ink the “BFF Rice” tattoo. This was done in November 2017, just three days before his death. The rapper and his best friend Jody got this matching tattoo on their right arms. It’s a takeout box with chopsticks inside with supposed Japanese Kanji characters on it. However, the characters are difficult to translate. Though the tattoo is somewhat poorly done, it has become iconic to many fans of the late rapper, as it was his last before his tragic passing.

Lil Peep’s Years-Long Wrongful Death Lawsuit Has Officially Been Settled By Both Parties

Lil Peep‘s mother, Liza Womack, and the late rapper’s former label, First Access Entertainment, have officially settled a wrongful death lawsuit. The news comes just a few weeks after it was announced that the two parties were close to reaching one without needing a trial, according to Pitchfork.

Womack took to Instagram to share that her son’s music will be solely in his family’s hands. She first filed the lawsuit and also claimed that the label owed her $4 million. “FAE is trying to choke off her funds by denying her her royalty revenue that they know she’s owed,” Womack’s lawyer Paul A. Matiasic shared in the fall of 2021.

“It is a solemn moment for us as we reflect on the struggles of the past five-plus years. We are grateful to all of the fans, friends, professionals, and family who stood by us,” Womack announced on Instagram, with a photo of Peep. “We were all permanently changed by Gus’s death. We know he should be here in the world with all of us, creating — making whatever he was inspired to make. But he is not.”

“We will protect his music with all of our strength,” she added.

If it had not been settled, they were required to turn in their trial binders today (February 17) and would’ve headed into a March court date. Neither is happening.

Lil Peep’s Wrongful Death Lawsuit Is ‘Hopefully’ Close To Reaching An Official Settlement

Lil Peep’s wrongful death lawsuit is “hopefully” close to being settled without a trial, according to a new report from Rolling Stone.

His mom, Liza Womack, hired a lawyer Paul A. Matiasic, who spoke about the status of the case.

Womack initially filed a lawsuit against her son’s label, “First Access Entertainment (FAE), and subsequent cross-complaints over money generated by Lil Peep’s music and likeness after his death,” per the publication.

Last October, the two sides announced they had reached a deal “in principle.” However, there is still a trial date currently scheduled for March 8.

“Have you wrapped up the settlement here,” Los Angeles County Superior Court judge Teresa Beaudet asked at the first hearing since that October statement.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have that type of news to report at this juncture,” Matiasic answered. “The parties are still working very hard going through their paces. There are a number of complexities associated with what’s being discussed. It’s taking a little bit longer than we all anticipated.”

He also asked for a 30-day delay, to which Judge Beaudet said she wouldn’t move the trial date.

Both sides are required to turn in their trial binders by February 17 unless they reach an official settlement before then.

The Lil Peep Wrongful Death Lawsuit Will Proceed To Trial After Judge’s Ruling Of ‘Causal Connection’

The lawsuit against late rapper Lil Peep’s record label First Access Entertainment will proceed to trial according to Rolling Stone, which reports that a Los Angeles judge denied the label’s request to dismiss the suit filed by Peep’s mother Liza Kathryn Womack.

Womack filed the suit in 2019, two years after the rapper’s death from an overdose of fentanyl in November of 2017, citing negligence and wrongful death due to FAE’s tour manager Belinda Mercer providing artists on the Come Over When You’re Sober tour drugs including cocaine, ketamine, Percocet, and Xanax. Among Womack’s other bases for suing were allegations that no one on the tour bus was trained in “life-saving apparatuses” for treating overdose such as Narcan or defibrillators — neither of which were provided — nor even to recognize signs of an overdose in the first place.

Judge Teresa A. Beaudet declared that the evidence provided by Peep’s mother was enough to establish a “causal connection” with Peep’s death, although she also ruled statements from Peep’s fellow musician and labelmate Cold Hart inadmissible as hearsay. Hart had claimed Peep’s managers telling the rapper to make “himself sick from taking a bunch of Xanax” to get out of a show without losing money. However, because he had not personally witnessed this, it could not be considered evidence.

Part of his statement was eligible though, as he was able to attest to Mercer providing the drugs to those on the bus. Beaudet acknowledged this part in her ruling, saying, “There’s no question there’s a triable issue as to whether (Mercer) provided the drugs or not. If you’re going to create an environment like that where drugs are flowing, and you’re providing it, and hey, you actually don’t have any life-saving device or any Narcan to help people who are going to have a problem with these drugs, it seems to me you are creating a very dangerous situation there… The fact (that the defendants) didn’t give the decedent adequate protection for that environment, I think that could add up to causation here.”

Unfortunately for Womack, Beaudet did dismiss similar charges against Peep’s co-manager, Bryant “Chase” Ortega, saying that the evidence did not show Ortega “directed” the negligence leading to Peep’s death. Peep’s mom also says that the label owes her $4 million from the rapper’s merch and music sales, which is being withheld in an effort to stall her lawsuit against them.
