Sean Kingston & NBA YoungBoy’s Contrasting Styles Collide On “Why Oh Why”

Sean Kingston and NBA YoungBoy are both dealing with some major legal issues at the moment. The Jamaican-bred singer and genre chameleon’s home in Florida was recently raided. Additionally, he is facing 10 charges which include, alleged fraud, grand theft, and identity theft. Furthermore, his mother, Janice Turner, was arrested on similar accounts but with two less charges. Then, there is NBA YoungBoy, who seems to be on a better path after he received a $100,000 bond following his April arrest in Utah over a whopping 63 charges.

It included everything from patterns of unlawful activity to procuring or attempting to procure drugs, identity fraud, forgery, possession of controlled substances, and possession of a dangerous weapon. However, that lengthy list was trimmed down to 48 as of a few weeks ago. However, if things go according to plan, YB will head back to his home state of Louisiana for trial for the separate federal weapon charges. With all of these moving parts, it was quite surprising that we received a new song.

“Why Oh Why” is the first-ever meet up between Sean Kingston and NBA YoungBoy and it was teased by the former a little while back, according to HipHopNMore. But the song goes over better than expected, as YB goes into his more melodic bag, instead of his typical yelping vocals. Him and Sean talk about fighting through adversity, which makes perfect sense given their situations.

MESSIAH!, MAVI, & Ovrkast. Collab On Soothing Single “Silent Heel”

Underground lo-fi rapper MESSIAH(!) has created something truly special with MAVI and Ovrkast on “silent heel”. This is the latest offering from the Charlotte, North Carolina native, who has been quite silent. In fact, this is his first release since his short 2022 solo album PERFECT 7 which featured seven cuts. But it seems that MESSIAH! has been reinvigorated to some degree with “silent heel” out.

As we mentioned, MAVI and Ovrkast. appear here, and the former is a frequent collaborator and fellow Charlotte native. Ovrkast. is best known for his beat making abilities, but he also provides some bars here. He opens up the lowkey cut with a verse that seems to be about a friend who is dealing with a severe drug addiction. Then, MESSIAH! comes through next and delivers a similarly impressive performance.

He gets real about living a passionate, go-getter type of lifestyle and how it can hurt you in some ways. However, the struggle is ultimately worth it. “I, fell off the porch / And made a portrait / Outta the skin I ripped… Limping outta battle Battered but I ain’t throw in no towel“. Finally, MAVI, gets introspective about the difficulties he has gone through in his life. All three rappers’ willingness to be open about these personal bouts is highly commendable and this is certainly one of the best tracks of the month.

Bizarre Of D12 Begs The Question On New Single: “Who Got A?”

Even though the legendary Detroit rap posse D12 is not as tight as they used to be, members of the group are still doing their thing. One of them is Bizarre, who claimed to be departed from the crew back in 2012, according to HipHopDX. “Creative differences” were the deciding factor for the then 35-year-old. However, the now 47-year-old revealed that he was back with his boys in 2014. Furthermore, just last year, they went on a short six-day tour in the UK in December, according to NME. It was organized to commemorate their sophomore, and final album as a group D12 World. There were talks of a third album in that 2014 DX interview, but things never materialized.

The last “album” they put out was a deluxe of their debut album Devils Night in 2021. But Bizarre did state that he would always have some sort of ties to D12. “D12 is always gonna be attached to my name. I’m a founding member of D12. It’s not a game. It’s something that’s a life commitment.”

While a collective LP might not be coming ever again, Bizarre might be working on a solo tape. Recently, the grimy rapper dropped a single “Who got a [problem]?” with production from fellow D-Town native Foul Mouth. The track is dark, cold and hilarious, with the clear standout bar being, “Two glocks, I call ’em Gweek and Gwiddy / ‘Cause they a couple, like Meek and Diddy (Ha-ha)“. Young Dro Makes Light Work Of The “Yeah Glo!” Instrumental On “Yeah Dro Freestyle”

One of the biggest rap songs in the early going of 2024 has to be “Yeah Glo!” by GloRilla. The Memphis femcee was losing some steam after dropping tracks like “F.N.F.” and “Tomorrow 2”. At least, that was the narrative amongst most fans, but she really shut up a lot of skeptics with that February single. It has become one of the genre’s anthems of the year, as it preaches self-worth and being confident in your abilities. Because of its message and lively performance, the track has been widely praised by many, including other rappers. One of them is Young Dro, who has recently decided to rap over the instrumental and retitle it “Yeah Dro Freestyle”.

Young Dro is a veteran wordsmith and has been an unheralded name in the Atlanta scene for well over a decade and a half. The “Shoulder Lean” MC is not as eager to drop much anymore it seems, as it evidenced by his last project dropping in 2022. That would be Da Real Atlanta & HyDROponic (Deluxe Edition). Furthermore, his last singles came back in 2023. But, after almost five full months, Young Dro is back with the “Yeah Dro Freestyle”.

Trae Tha Truth & A$AP Ferg Team Up For Hazy & Braggadocious Single “Rock Out”

Trae Tha Truth does not the credit he deserves for being a standout voice in the Southern hip-hop scene. With so many legends, especially from Houston (where he is from), his name does not get brought enough. He is not a hit song writer, but he is able to create these luxuriously smoky bangers with ease. That trademark style has taken him a long way, as he is now over 20 years deep into his career.

Recently, Trae Tha Truth dropped off a new single, “Rock Out”, which provides a hazy environment right from the jump. Joining him on this spacey cut is A$AP Ferg, or FERG. Surprisingly, this is the first time that we are hearing these veterans on the same record. Their approach to creating tracks is different. However, it is not to the point that sticking them on the same beat does not make sense at all.

In fact, FERG brings an incredibly wavy performance on “Rock Out” which fits the vibe to a tee. His “Rooocckkk outtt” background vocals add so much extra character to the instrumental as well. Fans can expect it to drop sometime this summer.

Quavo Returns To His Regularly Scheduled Programming With “Clear The Smoke”

After a pretty bloody battle with Chris Brown, Quavo is looking to get back on track with “Clear the Smoke.” The former Migo went shot for shot with R&B singer after Breezy rekindled the flame on “Freak.” “Okay, now f***in’ my old b****es ain’t gon’ make us equal / Sippin’ that 1942 ’cause I don’t do no Cuervo / Freak b****, she like Casamigos, not the Migos.” The 11:11 (Deluxe) cut prompted Quavo to fire back on “Tender.” However, it did not stop there, as Brown would then retaliate with “Weakest Link.” Finally, that would be followed up by “Over H*es & B****es.”

Now, with the dust settling on their feud, Quavo can now refocus on the streak he has been on. He has been really keeping the momentum up since he released Rocket Power last September, his tribute to Takeoff and sophomore solo LP. Huncho has worked alongside artists such as Rich The Kid, Destroy Lonely, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, as well as Chief Keef. However, “Clear the Smoke” sees him riding solo.

Quavo seems to be working on a more ethereal and spacey sound, compared to the straight-forward trap bangers of the past. You are still getting the trademark flows and adlibs but against more grand instrumentals. We saw him experience with that on his last record, so this shift is not too much of a surprise. It seems that a lot of rappers who are in their early 20s these days are pumping out a lot of trap party tracks. One of those names who is nearly making it his brand it feels like is 2Rare. He hails from the historic and colorful city of Philadelphia. Artists who have been contributing to its exuberance include Lil Uzi Vert, Armani White, and Tierra Whack. However, 2Rare might need to start being in those conversations, especially with songs like “C4.”

He may not be as innovative or creative as those names, but he is trying to perfect the club anthems. “C4” may be one of his best outings yet. Especially since the 23-year-old rapper is bringing along some artists who know a thing or two about making bangers. In this instance he is working alongside Rob49, and Detroit rising star, Skilla Baby.

One of the standout qualities of this song is the lush and carefree production. Of course, it’s got the traditional resonant bass, hi-hats and kick drums. However, the twinkly sound effects laced on top when 2Rare’s chorus pops in, gives it an early 2000s feel in a way. Each rapper also breathes some extra life into “C4” with their high energy and sometimes hilarious bars.

Chief Keef Confesses His Sins In Music Video For “Runner”

Chief Keef is an artist who has been around for over a decade. However, despite this longevity, he is only 29 years old. Overall, it is easy to forget that he came into the game at the age of 16. That said, he has managed to stay out of trouble, and now that he is out of Chicago, he is an entirely different person. His personal and artistic growth has been incredible to watch as of late. Furthermore, he has been putting out some of the best albums of his career. For instance, his most recent album is Almighty So 2 which is packed with bangers.

There are tons of great songs on this new album, and fans have been thoroughly impressed with Keef and his efforts. Moreover, it is made better by the fact that he produced the songs himself. Over the weekend, Keef came through and supported the album by dropping off a music video for the track “Runner.” This is a high-octane cut off the LP, and the music video can be seen down below. Once again, it is showcasing that Keef is taking this particular rollout very seriously.

As for the music video itself, we see Chief Keef in a church, confessing his sins. There is lots of religious imagery here, and it makes for a unique concept. It feels as though this subject matter is near and dear to Keef’s heart, especially as it pertains to his individual growth. No matter what, it’s great to get more Keef music, and it is nice to see him doing well after all of these years.

RXKNephew Makes It Clear That There Are “No Handouts” On Latest Single

If you are not familiar with RXKNephew, you better get with the program! He has been thriving in the underground scene of New York and has developed quite a unique sound. Nephew brings an unorthodox flow that you really are not going to find anywhere else. On top of that, his is also a wild card, as each release is a blind listen. His approach varies from track to track. From stone-faced to tongue in cheek, you really cannot go into a new song and expect anything. It is why each release we cover of his is always so intriguing. Today, RXKNephew has dropped another single called “No Handouts,” which follows up on a bevy of records. One of them includes his commentary on the now lingering Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef.

He did so by hopping on the “BBL DRIZZY” diss instrumental that Metro Boomin released about two weeks ago. However, he did not just focus on them. RXKNephew name dropped Rick Ross, Kanye West, Gunna, Meek Mill, and more. “No Handouts” also supersedes “Money Can’t Replace Time,” which is a promo record for his upcoming project Till I’m Dead 2. That is due at the end of May, and “No Handouts” could be another title to appear on his seventh LP of the year.

Like “Money Can’t Replace Time,” Nephew is taking a more conventional approach, both instrumentally and with his flow. There is a slight discrepancy between how his rapping matches up with the beat. But for the most part it follows suit. “No Handouts” is one of his darkest tracks, especially beat wise, which is provided by Brainstorm. It is trap-flavored and switches up a couple of times to an even more cavernous level. RXKNephew has one with “No Handouts.”

This is currently shaping up to be her breakout hit, as the original version already has over 19,000 streams. The single dropped on April 26, so it is definitely picking up steam. To capitalize on the momentum, Diany recruited one of her supporters, NAV, for this song about being in a healthy and loving relationship. What also gives this track its blow-up potential, is the man in the studio cheffing up the beat.
