Nicki Minaj’s Barbz Finally, Inevitably Turned On Ice Spice For Allegedly Recording With Kanye West

Before “Barbie World” became as inescapable as every other aspect of the Margot Robbie-starring film, music fans were wary of Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj’s newfound friendship. After all, Nicki and Megan Thee Stallion appeared to be fast friends during the “Hot Girl Summer” of 2019, and we all see how that ended up.

So, it comes as no surprise that Minaj’s most enthusiastic fans, the Barbz, have taken it upon themselves to call out Ice Spice for perceived disloyalty over allegedly recording a verse for Kanye West. Earlier this week, influencer YesJulz shared a screenshot of a text thread between herself and West — presumably from before she was “fired” from YZY for supposed breaches of contract — in which Julz claims she sent the beat for Kanye’s song “New Body” to both Doja Cat and Ice Spice to see “who sounds best.” Only a day later, Kanye reported via his Instagram Story that the “Munch” rapper had indeed sent verse, but lamented that “her team is saying we can’t use it.”

Members of Minaj’s fanbase — and even her entourage — sent shade at Ice Spice for even sending the verse in the first place, as Nicki had previously refused to clear her verse on the track for the first installment of Kanye’s Vultures project. The Song, which Nicki and Kanye originally recorded in 2019 for placement on his since-canceled project Yandhi, had seen multiple revisions, leaks, and other issues, which spurred Nicki to deem it “past its time” and refuse permission to use it — something West took very personally, calling her out in a listening party rant that seemingly put paid to any friendly feelings the two artists have shared. It’s also telling that he went to two ostensible Minaj proteges in Doja and Ice, perhaps hoping to get under her skin. Or, at least, that’s how many Barbz seem to perceive it, as seen in the representative examples below:

There’s a lot to be said here, but I think this sums it up best:

Nicki Minaj’s Barbz Tell Ice Spice To Tread Lightly After Discovering She Submitted A Verse For Kanye West’s “New Body”

As most Kanye West fans know, he has been working tirelessly to get out some version of “New Body” for a few years now. However, his attempts have been futile. Nicki Minaj was the original feature alongside Ty Dolla $ign. But last December, the Trinidadian superstar declined to clear her verse. The reasoning behind her decision was that too much time had passed. It led to a passionate response from Ye as he mentioned how supportive he has been throughout her career. However, more life was breathed back into “New Body” after some leaked texts from YesJulz revealed that the track was sent to Ice Spice and Doja Cat.

Unfortunately, the hype was short lived as Ice Spice’s team said that they would not clear her verse either. That led to Kanye again venting his frustrations via Instagram story. “ICE SPICE SENT A VERSE IN FOR NEW BODY NOW HER TEAM SAYING WE CAN’T USE IT.” When Ye went on that rant about Nicki, there must have been some animosity from the Barbz fanbase. We say that because Minaj’s fans feel that Ice Spice went behind her back by submitting a verse for “New Body.”

The Barbz are notoriously known for being a little too over the top when it comes to defending Nicki. This is definitely another case of crazies. For example, one fan tweeted, “I hate [that] Ice Spice has shown her hand. Going against the Queen will be the demise of her career. You don’t get in the game and make a move like that. It’s not about “being scared.” it’s about being loyal to ones that are loyal to you. This is why Nicki is the way she is.” One person did play devil’s advocate, “What if Ice called Nicki and talked about this when she received the request and Nicki gave her blessing 🤷🏾‍♂️

What are your thoughts on Nicki Minaj’s fans attacking Ice Spice for recording a verse for Kanye West’s “New Body?” Do you think the Barbz are the most ruthless fan base out of any artist? Kanye West Claims Ice Spice’s Team Is Blocking Her “New Body” Verse

Kanye West has been trying to release the song “New Body” for years at this point. Overall, the song has been anticipated since 2018. However, a release has never actually happened. For those who may not know, the original version of the song features Ty Dolla $ign and Nicki Minaj. Considering the fact that Ye and Ty Dolla have collaborative albums on the horizon, it makes sense that this song is back on everyone’s mind. In fact, Ye has made numerous strides to get the song released. For instance, a few months back, he was asking Nicki Minaj to clear her verse. Unfortunately, she refused and the song never dropped.

Earlier today, we reported on how YesJulz leaked a text message chain between herself and Ye. It was here where YesJulz revealed that she had actually sent “New Body” to both Doja Cat and Ice Spice. This was an absolutely massive reveal that had fans extremely excited. After all, these are two huge women artists, and to have them on a song with Ye would be a lot of fun. Subsequently, around Noon EST today, Kanye confirmed that Ice Spice actually sent a verse back. However, her team is refusing to clear it, and Ye wants some answers.

Kanye West Makes His Claim

“ICE SPICE SENT A VERSE IN FOR NEW BODY NOW HER TEAM IS SAYING WE CAN’T USE IT,” he explained. No reason was given for why he can’t use the verse. Regardless, this is devastating news. Fans just want to hear “New Body” and for Ice Spice to get a Ye collab would be huge at this stage in her career. For now, those who want this are just going to have to wait and see. It’s definitely not ideal, but this has become an ongoing issue for Kanye as of late. Hopefully, a solution can be worked out.

Kanye West & Nicki Minaj’s “New Body”: A Brief History Behind The Collab

In true Kanye West fashion, his collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures, did not materialize in time for its release date. Throughout the past month, the two have been actively promoting the album with a “Vultures Rave,” various listening sessions, and a pre-save link that has since disappeared. During this promotional rollout, Ty Dolla $ign shared a written tracklist, featuring heavily teased songs like the Backstreet Boys-sampling “Everybody.”

One song that particularly stands out on the tentative list of songs is “New Body,” a collaboration between Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, and Nicki Minaj. While this song has yet to be released, it is over five years old. One of the most highly anticipated collaborations on Vultures, here is a brief history behind Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Ty Dolla $ign’s “New Body.”

Kanye West & Nicki Minaj Have Not Worked Together in Many Years

Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign had worked together on numerous occasions before teaming up for a full-length album. On the other hand, Ye and Nicki Minaj have not worked together on a song in many years. The two first teamed up on “Monster” from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, where Minaj delivered arguably her most iconic verse. Also on the album was “Dark Fantasy,” which features a spoken introduction from Minaj. Her 2010 debut, Pink Friday arrived the same day as Kanye’s album, featuring West on the song “Blazin’.” In 2018, a voice note from Nicki Minaj appeared on “Violent Crimes” from West’s Ye. Later that year, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj both featured on “Mama” from 6ix9ine’s debut album, Dummy Boy.

Initially Intended For Yandhi

Following Kanye West’s series of 7-track collaborative albums, he began to tease yet another new album, titled Yandhi. West announced that the supposed sequel to Yeezus would arrive on September 29, 2018. Of course, the album never officially materialized but ended up transforming into the gospel-centric Jesus Is King. Yandhi ended up leaking almost in its entirety in 2019, with many of its tracks being non-secular versions of songs from Jesus Is King. Among these tracks were “I Love It,” Teyana Taylor’s “We Got Love,” and “New Body” featuring Nicki Minaj. While previewed at Jesus is King listening parties, “New Body” remained unreleased and highly anticipated, with many of the leaks eventually receiving releases. West, Minaj, and Ty Dolla $ign had even filmed a music video for the song.

During a TV interview, Kanye explained the concept behind the song. He says, “I’m taking two stigmas at once because I love taking stigmas and flipping them to positive. Negative energy to a positive. One of the stigmas is that men, the more people we sleep with the higher our score goes. With a woman, the more people they sleep with, people they sleep with, people consider that to be, the lower their score goes.”

The majority of Yandhi’s leaks were reconfigured as the non-explicit Jesus Is King. “New Body” was noticeably missing from the tracklist. Around that time, Nicki Minaj sat down with The Shade Room, revealing new insight into the song’s status. “What’s funny is that I did a song with Kanye, that he now wants to turn into a gospel song.” She elaborated, “I done wrote three different verses, chile, and I don’t know. We ain’t seeing eye to eye on it.”

An Unreleased Fan Favorite

In the time since its initial leak, “New Body” has become a fan favorite among Kanye West and Nicki Minaj fans. The song even went viral on TikTok in 2020, prompting Nicki Minaj to advocate for its release. She even encouraged her fans to spam Kim Kardashian’s “comments everyday” if they wanted it to be released. Ty Dolla $ign also advocated for the release of “New Body.” That same year, his song “Status” included a lyric where he said, “I told Ye to drop the OG ‘New Body’.” With the song’s uncertain future as a leak and a reworked gospel song, it was still highly anticipated by both featured artists and hardcore fans.

Nicki Minaj Shuts Down Official Release

While promoting their upcoming album, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign have previewed “New Body” during various listening sessions. These snippets included the original Nicki Minaj guest verse. After the album did not surface in time for its December 15 release date, Kanye West shared a screenshot of a message to Nicki Minaj, asking her to clear her verse for “New Body.” Minaj took to Instagram Live to speak about the status of the song. She said, “Regarding Kanye, that train has left the station. No disrespect in any way. I just put out a brand-new album. Why would I put out a song that has been out for three years?”

After declining his request to clear “New Body,” Kanye responded to Nicki Minaj during a listening session. At the same event where he spewed antisemitic remarks and sent jabs at Jay-Z and Drake, he said, “I made [Nicki Minaj] rewrite her verse 3 times for ‘Monster,’ I supported her career.” Fans may finally get “New Body” with the scheduled release of Vultures on December 31. However, it is highly unlikely for the song to be released in its original form, featuring a verse from Nicki Minaj.

Azealia Banks Calls Kanye West A “Fat Smelly Loser” Over His Nicki Minaj Rant

Azealia Banks has expressed her support for Nicki Minaj after Minaj faced the public ire of Kanye West for not clearing her verse on “New Body”. “Okay. Now I’m really pissed the f-ck off. Regardless of how I feel about PF2, did fat smelly loser Kanye west really just try step all over Nicki’s release? Did I hear correctly when he tried to take credit for supporting her career?????” Banks wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Minaj and Kanye are feuding because Minaj refused to clear her verse for “New Body”, a track set to appear on Kanye’s upcoming album, Vultures. “New Body” was originally meant to appear on the unreleased Yandhi. However, it was reworked into a Christian track for Jesus Is King but creative differences between Kanye and Minaj meant that the song was left off the album. Ty Dolla $ign implied on his track “Status” in 2020 that Kanye refused to release the song because it was “generic shit”.

Vultures Gets New Preorder, Release Date

Meanwhile, Vultures has been made available for pre-order on iTunes. Furthermore, the “expected release” has been listed as December 31. The news comes after Vultures‘ expected release date, December 15, was instead marked by a 10-minute rant from Kanye. The rant took aim at the Jewish community, Adidas, and individuals like JAY-Z and Drake. “N-gga just cause I had a car, n-gga. F-ck everybody, n-gga. That’s what I’m trying to say to you n-ggas right f-cking now, n-gga. Drake, this is what you been waiting for. Jay-Z, this is what you been waiting for. Adidas, this is what you been waiting for. Kim, this is what you been waiting for. n-ggas be hanging around these n-ggas for the money on some Mike Rubin sh-t,” Kanye ranted.

The album was briefly available for pre-order on Apple Music for a brief period earlier this week. However, it was later removed. The album’s release has been a trail of delays dating back to the summer. At one point, Kanye and Ty had planned to release the album as part of an impromptu concert in Italy. However, that idea was scrapped due to a lack of planning permission and an overly-expedited construction schedule for their intended stage.

Azealia Banks Defends Nicki Minaj Following Kanye West’s ‘No Body’ Verse Clearance Request Rant

After her iHeartRadio Jingle Ball performance on December 14 in Atlanta, Georgia, Nicki Minaj is laser-focused on all things Pink Friday 2. That means leaving behind anything that will siphon off promotional attention from it, including older collaborations. Unfortunately, that means her leaked viral verse for Kanye West’s song “New Body” might never see the light of day.

After Nicki apparently refused to clear her verse, which was set to appear on West’s forthcoming joint album Vultures with Ty Dolla Sign, he went on a rant against her. Now, Azealia Banks has inserted herself into the mix to take up for Nicki’s artistic decision.

On Saturday, December 16, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Banks tore into West. “Okay. Now I’m really pissed the f*ck off,” she wrote. “Regardless of how I feel about [Pink Friday 2], did fat, smelly loser Kanye West really just try to step all over Nicki’s release? Did I hear correctly when he tried to take credit for supporting her career.”

She continued, “Did he forget that Lil Wayne and Young Money [Records] supported her, believed in her, and shared their money, time, and resources with her to launch a female rapper to international icon status? Has Kanye ever successfully launched any artist he hasn’t sabotaged out of jealousy?”

Banks’ opinions on other artists tend to divide users online, but most fans support this take.

Kanye West Lashed Out At Nicki Minaj During His ‘Vultures’ Rant For Not Clearing A Critical Verse

As of this writing, Kanye West’s new album Vultures has yet to hit the streamers, and fans are convinced it’s because he has to remove the song “New Body” from the tracklist after featured artist Nicki Minaj refused to clear her verse at the last minute. The song has a long and controversial history, and fans were excited about finally hearing it, but after Nicki lived up to her last name (Mrs. Petty), Kanye didn’t hesitate to call her out at the album listening, which had degenerated into an extended rant.

“I made that girl rewrite her verse three times for ‘Monster,’” he said. “I supported her career. So I don’t know what it is.” Not to speculate, but it might have something to do with making someone write a verse four times for an album you eventually scrapped, along with every version of that song. She previously said, “The ship has sailed on ‘New Body,’” and it looks like she very much meant it.

Nicki wasn’t the only one he excoriated in his long, freewheeling speech. He also dragged Adidas for dropping him after spouting antisemitic conspiracy theories, Jay-Z for distancing himself from Kanye in the wake of his support for Donald Trump (who also distanced himself from Kanye), and everyone in the room with him for being “fake” — which was hilariously fitting, as they were there to listen to an album called Vultures. We’ll see if Nicki chooses to respond but for once, it seems like she’s busier actually promoting her own album, Pink Friday 2 — and airing her own grievances. Happy Festivus, everybody!

Nicki Minaj Thirst Trap Won’t Distract Barbz Begging For “New Body” Clearance

Even a week after its arrival, Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 still has the internet talking. Following the initial project’s debut on December 8th, she came through with a handful of other songs, including a 50 Cent remix, and collaborations with Monica and Keyshia Cole. As she continues to head toward a No. 1 debut it seems Minaj is taking great pleasure in denying Kanye West a similar feat with his Vultures LP. The Chicago native was hoping to share his and Ty Dolla Sign’s joint project today (December 15), but they’re unfortunately running into some issues with sample clearance.

First, Ye teased a track featuring a classic interpolation from the Backstreet Boys. The internet was surprised by how much they loved the preview, but now, it’s causing a holdup as the 46-year-old failed to ask the group’s permission. Elsewhere, he and Ty Dolla are finally ready to unleash the long-awaited “New Body,” which also features Minaj. However, much to their disappointment, she has no intention of giving West permission to use her iconic verse. Instead, she’s attempting to distract her fanbase with a new thirst trap video that doesn’t seem to be doing the trick.

One person pleaded with the Queen of Rap, “Nicki clear the verse, it’s literally one of your best.” “Everyone begging for ‘New Body’ y’all should’ve begged Kanye 3 YEARS AGO when Nicki herself was asking him to release it,” one loyal fan came to Minaj’s defence in her comments. “Kanye made Nicki [shoot] the whole music video just to scrap & leak it. Now y’all making [it] look like Nicki is being disrespectful? The math ain’t mathing.”

Besides everything currently unfolding with Kanye West, Nicki Minaj is also in the middle of a social media spat with Cardi B. Though neither woman is taking direct shots at the other, we are seeing plenty of shady Twitter fingers liking posts comparing Billboard‘s treatment of “WAP” to Pink Friday 2. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Kanye West On Nicki Minaj Refusing To Clear “New Body”: “I Supported Her Career”

“New Body” is one of the most beloved Yandhi-era leaks from Kanye West, both for its hypnotic beat and its topical focus… for better or worse. In addition, it also features a great verse from Nicki Minaj, which only made it all the more disappointing when the track appeared to stay in limbo. However, hype emerged once again when Ye and Ty Dolla $ign announced that the track would be on their upcoming collab album Vultures. In fact, they even played it at their Miami “rave” listening event, with Queen Barb’s verse and all. As such, it seemed like we would finally get this song officially in our hands.

But alas, when Friday, December 15th rolled around with no Vultures in sight, and Kanye West posted a screenshot of him asking Nicki Minaj to clear “New Body,” we went back to a disappointed state. Later, she addressed his request during an Instagram Live sessions, saying that “that train has left the station.” In other words, the 41-year-old expressed qualms about releasing a song that’s over three years old at this point. While that’s certainly a valid argument from an artistic standpoint, a lot of fans still expressed sadness that the track is once again in jeopardy.

Kanye West Responds To Nicki Minaj: Watch

What’s more is that Kanye West responded to Nicki Minaj’s comments during his absurdly combative rant against Jay-Z, Drake, and so many more. This was at his Las Vegas listening party for Vultures. While addressing her refusal to clear the sample, the Chicago artist claimed that he made her rewrite her iconic verse on “Monster” three times. “I supported her career,” he said of the “Last Time I Saw You” hitmaker. Most importantly, the 46-year-old seemed to hammer on the point that they’re still going to fight to put “New Body” out one way or another.

Meanwhile, that listening event was somehow more chaotic than the first, and we’re sure the ride’s far from over. Maybe these exchanges will continue, too, and we’ll either get a compromise, an apology, a reconciliation, or an even stronger divide. When it comes to these two artists, has guessing ever been a consistent game to play? For more news and the latest updates on Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, stay logged into HNHH.

Did Nicki Minaj Clear Her Verse For Kanye West’s ‘New Body?’

Let Me Calm Down” rapper Nicki Minaj is having a ball with her Barb fans in Gag City. With the release of her long-awaited album, Pink Friday 2, and the supporting world tour slated to launch soon, she’s been swamped with press obligations. Nicki even recounted with streamer Kai Cenat for a broadcast party where she and the crew jammed out to her new songs.

Whether out of pure coincidence or planned timing, Kanye West is looking to tap into the hype surrounding Nicki by releasing their past collaboration “New Body” on his Vultures album with Ty Dolla Sign.

Did Nicki Minaj Clear Her Verse For Kanye West’s ‘New Body?’

Based on her latest livestream, the answer appears to be no.

In a screenshot captured and shared by West, he reached out to Nicki via text message with his request but did not receive a response. So, he took to social media to tag the rapper, hoping fans would speed up the process.

However, when followers asked Nicki about clearing the record during a broadcast, she expressed no interest in doing so. She said, “Child, that train has left the station, OK? No disrespect in any way. I just put out a brand new album. Now why would I put out a song that has been out for three years? Come on, guys. You know?”

According to rumors, that’s not the only uncleared contribution on West’s forthcoming album. The Backstreet Boys also reportedly did not give authorization to West on the record in which he sampled their 1997 song “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”
