Amaarae’s second album Fountain Baby has taken on a life of its own. Nearly a year after its release, the 14-track project is still heavily in rotation by fans near and far. Additionally, it’s helped to take Amaarae to all corners of the world, most recently for a performance at Dreamville Festival earlier this month.

With every spin of Fountain Baby, there’s something new to love which explains the recent surge in popularity of “Angels In Tibet.” The track was recently crowned as the fourth single from the album, joining favorites “Reckless & Sweet,” “Co-Star,” and “Wasted Eyes.” It also received a mass remix treatment thanks to a new EP that delivered new takes of the song from the likes of Juls, Kaytranada, and Aliyah’s Interlude.

The magic of Fountain Baby also comes alive onstage where Amaarae has the opportunity to present the album in a new way. The in-person experience grants the singer a control panel with all the necessary levers, nooks, and crannies needed to reimagine her album is a multitude of ways. Creating Fountain Baby is one thing and crafting a live experience behind it is another tall task, but it’s one that Amaarae was excited to accomplish from the very beginning.

Following her performance at Dreamville Festival, we caught up with Amaarae for a conversation about live performances of Fountain Baby records and what her dream concert experience for the album would look like.

When making a project like Fountain Baby, how much thought goes into what performing these songs might sound like while also maintain the cohesiveness of the project?

I thought about it a lot. When I made this project, I really went into it thinking about the performance aspect and how to really translate the songs beautifully to live. My first album, when we would do it live, it just felt very soft, it wouldn’t knock on the stage. So every time I was with the guys, I’d be like, “Yo, the drums gotta knock,” cause when we take this to the stage, people need to be slapped in the face with it. That that was a big thing, making sure those drums are heavy and you feel them, and [that] those synths are really in your face and pulsate through your body. That was a big thing for me, thinking about how it would translate live.

What’s a song from the project that made you say, “Oh, I cannot wait to perform this!” once it was done?

Probably “Co-Star” or “Princess Going Digital.”

What are some things you try to emphasize in order to really bring this album to life when you perform it?

I think lights are really important. Every time I write a song or make an album, I think about color. That’s one of the first things that I think about. So, making sure that the lights feel as intentional and as powerful as the music, and it feels almost like a beating heart and a pulse that works through the music is really important for me. I [also] think about certain live elements that I like to bring to stage like drums — mixing live drums and programmed drums to make sure that they really knock — and synths. As I get bigger and bigger and as production gets bigger and bigger, I want to have huge synths where you can really feel the power of music. Also, recently: movement. I didn’t used to be much of a dancer, I’m not a crazy dancer, I’m not a crazy dancer at all, but I kind of seen the value in finding your own swag, what works for you movement-wise, and really using that to tell the story of the music as well. I’ve enjoyed finding my own swag as a dancer, I think I have my own brand now.

Describe what would be the perfect Fountain Baby concert experience. Who would be the artists opening for and performing with you? Where would you have it? What other elements would you have? There are no limitations here.

Think about the biggest waterfall on Earth, and if I can build a stage in the waterfall where it’s seamless with the waterfall? That would be fire. I like my openers so far. I think I would stick with the openers that I have now. Talia Goddess is crazy, Amindi is crazy as well. I would have a fire DJ open for me because I think the a really great DJ can just set the tone and really prepare the audience for what’s about to come next. So I would have a really amazing DJ open up for me and yeah, I would love to do it in a waterfall, that would be spiritual to imagine.

What’s the message, feeling, or emotion that you hope people leave with after seeing you perform?

I think belief in self and the confidence to make choices that benefit them the most. I’m not a perfect person. and as I’ve been performing the album, I’ve really been listening to the lyrics and I’m like man, I was really going through something there and I was really in a shift and experiencing so much. Now, I’m realizing how much that album wasn’t even about love or lust, but it was about discovery of my own self through the good, the bad, [and] the evil, and here I am still standing. So here y’all should be still standing and we should all go forth and motherf*cking prosper.

Megan Thee Stallion Is Being Sued for Allegedly Forcing a Cameraman to Watch Her Have Sex in A Moving Car

Megan Thee Stallion is the latest female star to be hit with a lawsuit for workplace harassment after a camera operator she employed filed a suit claiming she forced him to watch her have sex in a moving car. According to NBC News Emilio Garcia filed his lawsuit today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claiming Thee Stallion bullied him into silence over the incident.

Garcia claims that while in Ibiza, Spain with Megan in June 2022, he accompanied the Houston rapper in an SUV with three other women. He said that she had sex with one of them in the moving vehicle, and that later, Megan questioned him about it, ordering, “Don’t ever discuss what you saw.” Garcia also asserts that during the trip, the rapper fat-shamed him, calling him a “fat bitch” and telling him to “spit your food out.”

He says after the trip, his compensation structure was changed from a monthly flat rate to work-for-hire, requiring him to submit an invoice after each job; the change was followed by a reduction in assignments. Garcia wants more than six figures for “unpaid wages, unpaid overtime wages and other employee benefits,” as he quit his job in 2019 to work for Meg full-time, but was classified as an independent contractor.

In August 2023, singer Lizzo was also sued for workplace harassment by former dancers who claimed she forced them into a team-building night at a strip club. She has since requested to have the case dismissed.

Kanye West Shares Surprising Picks For His Current Favorite Rappers

Kanye West revealed his favorite hip-hop artists at the moment during his interview with Justin Laboy on the podcast, The Download, over the weekend. He named Kodak Black and Young Moose as two rappers he’s big on right now, but admitted he hasn’t been listening to much new music.

“It changes, it switches,” Ye admitted after Laboy recalled him previously suggesting 21 Savage. “Also Kodak [Black]. There’s this new rapper out of Baltimore named [Young] Moose who we’re working with. But I told y’all I don’t even listen to music. I’m too busy getting money! I really, really, really am too busy getting money to listen to too much music.” Moose addressed the shout-out on Instagram afterward. He wrote: “This Sh¥t Bigger Than Lyfe ! [battery emoji] Words From ¥esus Himself @ye [goat emoji] #Blessed @justinlaboy.” Earlier this year, Ye also praised 4Batz as one of his favorite artists at the time.

My daddy control the spins. My daddy got the DSPs.’ Drake has a rich baby daddy named Lucian.” Ye also premiered his new remix of Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That,” on which he targets both Drake and J Cole. “Y’all so outta sight outta mind, I can’t even think of a Drake line,” he raps. “Play J. Saweetie Continues Teasing New Song Amid Quavo And Chris Brown Beef

It’s been a year absolutely packed with beef and diss tracks in hip-hop and beyond. Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj got things started earlier this year with an explosive but short lived back and forth. The main event came when Kendrick Lamar took shots against J. Cole and Drake on the song “Like That” from Future & Metro Boomin’s new album WE DON’T TRUST YOU. J. Cole’s quickly deleted response track and Drake’s consistent trolling of Kendrick over his height have seemingly dominated the rap news cycle ever since. Additionally, it’s even seeped into popular music with Taylor Swift dropping a straight up Kim Kardashian diss track on the extended version of her new album.

The newest beef to spark is between Chris Brown and Quavo. The pair’s distaste for each other was brought back into the limelight when they were seated next to each other at a fashion show earlier this year. Now it’s escalated into full on beef with diss tracks from both artists. Right in the middle of all of it is Saweetie. While she hasn’t exactly come out in favor of Chris Brown, she certainly isn’t siding with Quavo. Following her being mentioned in both songs she shared a DM from the former Migos rapper to Twitter that was admittedly not a great look. Now as the beef rages on, she’s using the opportunity to promote her upcoming song.

In the comments, plenty of fans bring up the ongoing beef. Most of them seem to want a Chris Brown feature on the upcoming track. “WE WANT CHRIS ON THE SONG AND IN THE MUSIC VIDEO” one of the top comments on the post reads. “WE WANT CHRIS BROWN ON THE REMIX” another agrees.

What do you think of Saweetie continuing to tease her new single in the midst of the Quavo and Chris Brown beef? Do you think she is taking Brown’s side in the beef or just defending herself from Quavo’s allegations? Let us know in the comment section below.

Drake “Taylor Made” Freestyle: Did He Cross A Line With AI Tupac & Snoop Dogg?

It’s been a hell of a time for fans of Hip Hop. The number of diss tracks that have emerged in 2024 has been quite a lot. Not that we’re complaining, though. The shake-up has led to some of the most exciting disses in a while, and we’ve had to grasp every single detail about a ton of rapper feuds. The crazy thing, however, is that they all seem to have broken out all at once within the industry.  However, while most of these feuds have been met with praise, Drake’s latest effort, “Taylor Made Freestyle,” hasn’t been warmly received. And this boils down to his use of AI on the track

In The Beginning…

The spark that ignited the rap beef was J. Cole’s mention of Kendrick Lamar in “The Big Three” on the track “First Person Shooter.” Kendrick subsequently dropped a surprise verse as a response on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.” J. Cole continued the diss by discrediting Lamar’s discography on “7 Minute Drill.” However, in a surprising feat, he eventually retracted the track from streaming platforms, but what stood out the most was that J. Cole subsequently issued an apology to Lamar.

Not one to let things go, however, Drake released “Push Ups” as his own response. Although “Push Ups” was widely successful, public opinion still remains that Drake lyrically hit the ball out of the park. However, a follow-up diss track was released on April 19th—Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle.” But unlike “Push Ups,” this was way more controversial. Why? Because Drake addresses Kendrick Lamar using AI vocals of Hip Hop legends Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg’s Reaction

Unlike Pac, who died in 1996, Snoop Dogg is very much alive to witness Drake’s shenanigans. Snoop seems to have been as shocked by the stunt as everyone else. In a hilarious Instagram post, he expressed his surprise: “They did what? When? How? Are you sure? [Sigh] Y’all have a good night. Why is everybody calling my phone, blowing me up? What the f— what happened? What’s going on? I’m going back to bed. Good night.” It’s safe to say that Snoop wasn’t all about that mess.

Is “Taylor Made” A Calculated Move From Drake?

“Taylor Made” is certifiably a stellar track, as far as diss tracks go. For one, it is most likely a show-off to the public allegations that “Push Ups” was an AI track. Secondly, and perhaps most interestingly, is how Drake attempts to undermine Kendrick Lamar. Overall, this is a calculated strategy to belittle status as a heavyweight in the game. His use of AI seems to be a conscious effort to draw out a response from K-Dot.

Drake (as Tupac) addresses Kendrick Lamar on “Taylor Made,” saying: “Kendrick we need ya, the West Coast savior / Engraving your name in some hip-hop history… Call him a b*tch for me / Talk about him liking young girls as a gift for me.” While urging him to respond and engrave his name in “some Hip Hop history,” Drake also attempts to poke holes in perhaps all of Kendrick’s likely talking points for a diss track. These include the fact that he is Canadian and light-skinned.

As most are aware, Kendrick Lamar has often been compared to Tupac Shakur. In fact, Kendrick himself has admitted to carrying on Tupac’s legacy. With these (and the following lines), Drake’s Tupac starts to question just how capable Kendrick is of taking on Tupac’s identity, if he can’t even stand the heat of facing him like Tupac did Biggie with “Hit ‘em Up,” one of the greatest diss tracks to ever exist. It’s important to note that Kendrick’s silence hasn’t sat well with fans. Many have clamored for him to issue a response to Drake, not just for “Taylor Made,” but also for “Push Ups.”

Drake Is Ready To Go To Rap War

Following his Tupac stint, Drake switches to Snoop Dogg’s vocals to speak to Lamar. He references Snoop “passing on the torch” to Kendrick Lamar at the House of Blues in 2011. Just like AI Tupac, AI Snoop also seems to also be disappointed in Kendrick’s silence. The elephant in the room is why Kendrick remains quiet after being challenged by someone like Drake. “World is watching this chess game, but oh you out of moves Dot / You know that the OG never f*cking doubted you / But right now it seem like you posted up without a clue / Or what the f*ck you ’bout to do.”

Eventually,  Drake finally switches to his own voice. However, he also makes it known that both “Taylor Made” and “Push Ups” were light work for him. He also claims he’s more than capable of going a few more rounds against Kendrick. Finally, he ascribes Kendrick’s silence to Taylor Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department, which is sure to top the charts.

But now we gotta wait a f*cking week ’cause Taylor Swift is your new top  (referencing Lamar’s former record label Top Dawg Entertainment) / And if you ’bout to drop, she gotta approve / This girl really ’bout to make you act like you not in a feud.

Is This A Misguided Effort?

Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur (Photo by Kevin Mazur Archive/WireImage)

For all its bravado and swagger, Drake’s “Taylor Made” is not without its pitfalls. By invoking Tupac’s name and legacy, Drake risks inviting comparisons that may ultimately work to Lamar’s advantage. There’s also the fact that AI use is still considered a major taboo in music. Drake lavishly utilizing it can easily be seen as a heavily misguided idea. After all, he is using it without the consent of the people in question. Particularly, one of the artists is dead and cannot speak for themselves. Therefore, it’s quite easy to see why many consider this as Drake crossing a line. Nonetheless, on the flip side, many could argue that there are no rules regarding diss tracks. Take Chris Brown, who recently referenced the passing of Takeoff in his diss track for Quavo.

Also, while it is obviously impressive to use up all the ammo that Kendrick Lamar could use on him, it still is pretty weird to describe himself as “liking younger women.” This attempted 8 Mile move, unfortunately, doesn’t hit quite as hard. While it’s commendable to poke fun at oneself, there’s obviously some things to consider. It’s pretty evident that Drake isn’t interested in that, though.

Conclusion

Altogether, there is no one way to look at Drake’s “Taylor Made” diss track. It is both a divisive and creative moment in the ongoing saga of his rivalry with Kendrick Lamar. Another thing to note is that Drake seeks to be in a hurry to assert his dominance over Lamar. While this works in his favor, as he continues to earn public recognition, many have begun to sense it as a desperate move. Evidently, his campaign to reaffirm his status as king of “the big three” of Hip Hop is still very much alive. Regardless, whether or not he succeeds in this endeavor remains to be seen. One thing is certain: the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar shows no signs of abating, and Hip Hop is all the richer for it.

Tupac Murder Trial: End Date Set For Discovery Period

Last year, Duane “Keefe D” Davis was shockingly arrested for the murder of Tupac Shakur more than 25 years after the murder took place. It came after police executed a surprise raid in conjunction with a renewed investigation into the case. Keefe D has frequently appeared on various platforms online to discusses the details of the killing. In fact, his refusal to stop discussing more and more specific details of the case is the biggest reason many fans believe he was arrested.

The trial has moved forward very slowly in the months since his arrest. Part of that came from Keefe D himself who had repeated issues with lawyers that delayed trial proceedings. Things were tentatively scheduled to get under way in June, but that was later delayed due to how long discovery was expected to take. During a trial update today, lawyers for both sides confirmed they’re still making good time. According to All Hip Hop, the prosecution claimed they believe they’ll be able to wrap up the discovery period in two months. The defense also confirmed they’ve begun receiving documents from the prosecution. While it’s mostly a procedural development it means the trial is still on track to meet its tentative start date in November.

Tupac’s Murder Trial Proceeding On Schedule

Tupac’s voice was recently back in the ears of fans following the biggest beef in rap. Kendrick Lamar and Drake have been in a feud since Future & Metro Boomin dropped the song “Like That” last month. In his second response track “Taylor Made Freestyle” Drake deployed an AI version of the legendary “California Love” rapper’s voice.

One person who took issue with the AI was Tupac’s brother. He reportedly compared it to using a nuclear bomb in a one-on-one. What do you think of the Tupac murder trial being schedule to start a full year after Keefe D was first arrested? Do you think he will be found guilty of the murder of the iconic rapper? Let us know in the comment section below.

The label, unfortunately, shelved his own debut album, It’s About Time, but the project did eventually see the light of day in 2010. NLE Choppa Shows Off The Bras He’s Collected On Tour

NLE Choppa is no stranger to his fans thirsting over him. In fact, one of his biggest hits “SLUT ME OUT” recently got a single that is essentially all about how attractive he is to his fans. “SLUT ME OUT 2” dropped earlier this month and featured hilariously raunchy bars over a hard-hitting beat. He followed it up with an equally NSFW bathtub photo shoot just a few days later. For the pictures he recreated a classic image of 2pac.

That’s why it isn’t all that surprising that fans are showing their attraction to Choppa in one of the only ways they can. Fans have been throwing bras on stage for years but it went particularly viral last year during Drake’s “It’s All A Blur” tour. That came from one hilarious moment when he couldn’t believe the size of a bra thrown at him on stage. Now in a new Instagram post, NLE Choppa is showing off some of the bras he’s collected on his current tour. He shared a video to Instagram laying on a floor surrounded by dozens of bras. “Nothing To See Here Just Me Collecting Bra’s For #SLUTSZN” his caption reads. Check out his hilarious new post below.

He even took the opportunity to defend himself against some of the haters who emerged in the comments. He reserved the right to thank anyone whom he felt was showing him love. The post did cause him to have to eventually circle back around and clarify his own sexuality a few days later.
