Tupac Murder Trial: End Date Set For Discovery Period

Last year, Duane “Keefe D” Davis was shockingly arrested for the murder of Tupac Shakur more than 25 years after the murder took place. It came after police executed a surprise raid in conjunction with a renewed investigation into the case. Keefe D has frequently appeared on various platforms online to discusses the details of the killing. In fact, his refusal to stop discussing more and more specific details of the case is the biggest reason many fans believe he was arrested.

The trial has moved forward very slowly in the months since his arrest. Part of that came from Keefe D himself who had repeated issues with lawyers that delayed trial proceedings. Things were tentatively scheduled to get under way in June, but that was later delayed due to how long discovery was expected to take. During a trial update today, lawyers for both sides confirmed they’re still making good time. According to All Hip Hop, the prosecution claimed they believe they’ll be able to wrap up the discovery period in two months. The defense also confirmed they’ve begun receiving documents from the prosecution. While it’s mostly a procedural development it means the trial is still on track to meet its tentative start date in November.

Tupac’s Murder Trial Proceeding On Schedule

Tupac’s voice was recently back in the ears of fans following the biggest beef in rap. Kendrick Lamar and Drake have been in a feud since Future & Metro Boomin dropped the song “Like That” last month. In his second response track “Taylor Made Freestyle” Drake deployed an AI version of the legendary “California Love” rapper’s voice.

One person who took issue with the AI was Tupac’s brother. He reportedly compared it to using a nuclear bomb in a one-on-one. What do you think of the Tupac murder trial being schedule to start a full year after Keefe D was first arrested? Do you think he will be found guilty of the murder of the iconic rapper? Let us know in the comment section below.

Timbaland Wants Credit For Discovering Ludacris

Timbaland says that he’s the one who discovered Ludacris. He recalled how he met the Atlanta rapper during an appearance on the I AM ATHLETE podcast. The topic of Ludacris came up while discussing Timbaland’s favorite Hip Hop artists of all time.

He began by naming Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, LL COOL J, Run-DMC, and Gang Starr. From there, he brought up Wu-Tang Clan, Fat Joe, Big Pun, OutKast, DMX, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, 8-Ball & MJG, N.W.A as well as A Tribe Called Quest, and finally, Ludacris. In bringing up Ludacris, he explained how he’s the one who discovered him.

“I was the one who found Ludacris,” he said. “Because Ludacris was working in the radio station and I was like, ‘Hey, ain’t nobody sign you? What’s going on here?’ [He was like], ‘Nah man.’ Then he came down to Virginia and we did ‘Phat Rabbit,’ and from there, labels started calling. He asked me one time, ‘Would you sign to Def Jam or Eleltra?’ I said, ‘Man, you better go to Def Jam.’ And I didn’t know how the business go. I just backed them ’cause I knew he was incredible.”

Ludacris has previously been upfront about Timbaland being one of the first people in the industry to back him. When the two reunited for new music in 2019, Ludacris explained a similar story of the legendary producer discovering him. “Tim was the first person that really believed in me, along with Jermaine Dupri and Organized Noize,” he said at the time. “But in terms of really the very first person, [he] came to the radio station in Atlanta when I was working there. Timbaland was the first person who was like, ‘Who is that?’ And then [I] got on ‘Phat Rabbit’ and got on Tim’s Bio. Do your history, Google that. He’s the first person. So, to be back in the studio with him at this moment in time — for this juncture and this particular moment that is about to be monumental for me — is amazing.”

Bleu DaVinci Claims He Discovered Eminem Before Dr. Dre

Former BMF rapper Bleu DaVinci claims that he discovered Eminem before Dr. Dre signed the legendary Detroit rapper. DaVinci explained himself during a recent interview with Cam Capone News, recalling a time he brought Eminem to Priority Records head of A&R Andrew Shack. DaVinci says that he was just 16 years old at the time he found Eminem.

“I know how the whole label run at 16 years old,” the former BMF rapper said. “I brought fucking Slim Shady, Eminem to him, on my mama, anybody. Ask the Jewish man Andrew Shack, I brought Eminem to that first before Dr. Dre signed him. Me and Ras Kass was finna go to New York and just came from Maritime Hall in the Bay and I just watched Eminem perform for the first time, I took his tape and took him straight to the fucking head of A&R Andrew Shack. He was the head of A&R and then he became Vice President. He was the n***a that signed n****s!”

“He was in the middle of doing the Rhyme & Reason soundtrack and I brought him Eminem,” DaVinci continued. He added that he wasn’t able to convince the label to sign him as he didn’t have any respect as a teenager. But when Dr. Dre eventually signed Eminem, Shack cussed DaVinci out. “Dr. Dre signed him why didn’t you tell me?’ I said I did tell you, muthafucka. He the hardest muthafuckin’ white boy I ever seen rapping in my life, that’s why I brought him in here,” DaVinci said. “I didn’t have to bring this shit in here … I was just 16 they wasn’t respecting my gangsta.” Eminem signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment in 1998.

Eminem isn’t the only rapper that DaVinci brought up. He also claimed in the interview that Gucci Mane initially wanted to join BMF, but was turned down by Big Meech. “He was cool, and he used to try to get down with the mob, but Meech was telling n****s like, ‘Nah man, this n***a be out here robbing n****s and shit. We can’t have no n****s that’s known robbers.’ It wasn’t like he was some robber. N****s knew he would get down on a n***a type shit. So we kinda wasn’t doing that at the time. He always just been a friendly and always been the homie.”
