Joe Budden Puts Kendrick Lamar In His Top 5 Of All Time, But There’s A Catch

Joe Budden says he’d put Kendrick Lamar in his list of the five best rappers of all time, but admits there’s several other names that could slot into the final spot. Speaking about the topic on his podcast, he explained that the top four spots are all locked in with 2Pac, JAY-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., and Nas, but the fifth place is where things get malleable.

“If he ain’t 5, he’s 5B, 5C, 5D,” Budden began. “For me, it’s ‘Pac, Hov– in no order. I’m just naming them. ‘Pac, Hov, Biggie, Nas, and after that everything can get tricky. I’m gonna choose to put a Kendrick there. If I didn’t put Kendrick there, I’m putting 3k there. If I don’t put 3k there, I’m putting Wayne there. There’s 10 names that, they beat the rest of y’all and Kendrick is there. There’s 10 names that, I don’t give a f*ck what rapper y’all name, these 10 win. The MCs know it, the entertainers know it. Them 10 did what the f*ck they had to do.”

5 Cringe Lyrics From J. Cole’s Verse On Cash Cobain’s “Grippy”

J Cole has a reputation for bringing elite rhymes and skilled guest vocals to other artists’ songs, with some features such as “Johnny P’s Caddy” going down in rap history books as the hardest in recent memory. Unfortunately, even J Cole can have a miss or two on his record, as evidenced by his feature on the recent Cash Cobain track “Grippy.” “Grippy” has been universally panned by critics and fans of J Cole alike, with most listeners lamenting the awkward delivery, poor mixing, and especially cringe lyrics as major lowlights. Let’s dive into a brief list of Cole’s worst bars on the track, and examine what makes the song so awkward. Without further ado, here are 5 of the most cringe J Cole lyrics on “Grippy.”

5. Cole Gives Hippie A Whole New Meaning

Rappers often utilize shoddy wordplay to force a rhyme into place or paint a visual image. Most times, fans are willing to accept these instances and move right along. That is, as long as the tone and delivery of the awkward bars are jovial, and don’t take themselves too seriously. On “Grippy,” this is not the case, as J Cole opens his verse with a painful comparison between the words “hip” and “hippie.” On the song, the Dreamville head honcho raps “Grippy, huh/ Grippy, I call her that ’cause it’s grippy/ She thick in the hips, she a hippie.” These lyrics are spoken with the comfortable vibrato of a man who didn’t just spend the last month getting torn apart by rap fans for apologizing to Kendrick Lamar, and serve as a really painful first post-beef outing.

4. The Sloppy Similes Keep Going

As fans of J Cole, we all wish the awkward bars on “Grippy” would have ended with the hippie punch line, but things only get worse from there. Cole goes on to deliver one of the worst similes of his entire career with the bars “With a kissy emoji, she miss me/ When she see me, she say she gon’ strip me/ She gon’ chew on this stick like it’s Wrigley’s.” In case you need those lyrics broken down, he’s referencing Wrigley’s chewing gum, in an allusion to a woman performing oral sex. It remains unclear, however, why J Cole thinks “chewing” is a term that belongs anywhere in the same universe as a bar about receiving oral, but that’s his personal business.

3. Cole Channels His Inner Ned Flanders

Without a doubt, the most heavily-memed bar on this record comes in the form of a borderline problematic lyric, in which J Cole raps “Mm, yеah, believe it or not likе Ripley’s/ She said she was gay until I slayed, now she strictly dickly.” Here J Cole suggests that he’s such a powerful performer in the bedroom that he could convince a lesbian to turn straight. This would be an awkward bar for any rapper to deliver at any point in their career, but it’s especially odd after Cole just faced backlash for some seemingly transphobic bars on his most recent release. Either way, fans have already started posting audio clips of this portion of the song alongside images of The Simpsons‘ Ned Flanders, as he delivers his classic lines like “Okilly dokilly.”

2. Graphic Sexual Depictions Make The Track Nauseating

Some rap songs are specifically designed to be added to a bedroom playlist. While there’s no way of knowing for sure if that was the intent that J Cole and Cash Cobain had in mind when they penned “Grippy,” it certainly seems like they weren’t shy about delivering graphic sexual imagery in their lyrics. As J Cole nears the merciful end of his cringe-inducing feature, he offers up the bars, “I gotta get you up out of them Vickies/ uh, like p**** so good, I just had an epiphany/ It’s grippy and wet, you know I’m a vet, but you makin’ me feel like a rookie/ How you make me tap out so swiftly?” Maybe in an alternate universe, somebody could consider these lyrics steamy, but currently, these bars are positively obnoxious.

1. The Verse Closes Out With An Awkward Refrain

Nearing the close of J Cole’s verse on “Grippy” forces the listener to look inward and ask themselves what exactly Cole meant the last few years while promising The Fall Off. If this awkward and cringe-worthy refrain is anything to go by, that title may serve as much more than just the name of a long-awaited album. Cole closes out his verse by crooning “Like, b****, I’ma send all your kids to Disney/ hmm, hmm I’ma pay a lil’ extra, make sure they meet Mickey/ hmm she a what? She a what, she a grippy/ huh she a what? She a what, she a grippy.” Needless to say, this song has been getting a lot of attention from fans online, for all the wrong reasons. Even J Cole’s most die-hard supporters are finding it impossible to defend his awkward bars on this latest verse.

Ice Cube Reaffirms That “No Vaseline” Is Superior To “Ether”, “Not Like Us”, & More: “I Took Out Four Motherf***ers”

There is a laundry list of memorable diss tracks throughout rap’s 50 plus year history. However, there are only a handful that sit the highest in hip-hop lore. Most avid listeners will tell you that either “Hit ‘Em Up” by Tupac or something like an “Ether” from Nas reigns over all of them. However, there is still an MC who is a staunch advocate for his own body of work. That would be nonother than Ice Cube. The West Coast rapper was put in an awkward position during the peak of his career when he was with N.W.A. Unfortunately, things did not pan out and he ultimately departed. However, that difference between the group and Ice Cube spawned “No Vaseline”, which he believes remains the greatest diss song ever even over songs like “Ether”.

Of course, there has been some new competition thrown into the fray over the last month or so. Kendrick Lamar and Drake were firing off diss records left and right, sometimes even multiple times a day. The one that fans and rappers see as the best out of the bunch is “Not Like Us”. It has grown extremely rapidly since its release at the beginning of May. Still though, Ice Cube is still keeping the crown on “No Vaseline”, and here is why.

Ice Cube Makes His Case For “No Vaseline” Over “Ether” & Others

In a recent stage performance, the Los Angeles artist showed love to those diss records we alluded to. But in case the people in the back could not hear, Cube reiterated his argument one more time for you. “One MC… I took out four motherf***ers and the manager. You can’t beat that.” In addition, he did take the time to clarify that him and N.W.A. are still tight, especially with that happening 30 plus years ago.

What are your thoughts on Ice Cube naming his diss track, “No Vaseline,” the greatest of all time? Do you agree with him that it trumps songs like “Ether”, “Not Like Us”, and “Hit ‘Em Up”? Did he make a valid case for it, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Ice Cube. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Future Promises He Won’t Sleep Until His New Mixtape Is Done

He teased the release of the project in a post on X (formerly Twitter) early Tuesday morning. “I can’t sleep until it’s complete #MIXTAPEPLUTO,” he wrote. Future previously told fans he’d be releasing the mixtape on May 10th but the date came and went without a new project. Instead, he appeased fans by sharing a new single with Tee Grizzley titled “Swear to God.” Check out his latest comment on his next mixtape below.

Future Teases His Upcoming Mixtape

Both We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You debuted atop the US Billboard 200. The albums featured appearances from The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Kendrick Lamar, and many more artists while simultaneously kicking off several beefs with Drake. While the Toronto rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, and more have dropped further diss tracks, Future has remained silent. Drake even suggested that Metro Boomin played a hand in pressuring him to sign on to the feud. “Pluto sh*t make me sick to my stomach, we ain’t never really been through it,” he raps on “Family Matters.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Future on HotNewHipHop.

DJ Akademiks Dragged On Twitter For Previously Scoffing At The Idea Of Vory Writing Drake’s “Mob Ties”

DJ Akademiks is easily one of the biggest hip-hop commentators in the world. Overall, he is known for growing a platform on YouTube. However, over the last couple of years, he has mostly abandoned the YouTube video grind. Instead, he mostly just streams and uses Twitter as a place to vent. Regardless, this has proven to be quite lucrative for him. His streams are immensely popular and whenever there is a big story in the culture, fans flock to his Rumble, Twitch, and Kick pages.

Last night, Akademiks was being talked about in a negative light due to his past comments about Vory. To set the scene, a Vory reference track for Drake’s song “Mob Ties” hit the internet. This subsequently led to massive debates about Drake’s pen and his overall legacy. Moreover, it led to one person digging up an old clip of Akademiks scoffing at the idea of Vory writing any bars on “Mob Ties.” In the clip below, you can see that Akademiks was on stream with some friends and that they were reading the credits on Scorpion. Ak acknowledged that Vory was credited as a writer, however, he made the bold claim that the artist didn’t write a single thing.

DJ Akademiks Hit With The “This You?”

Of course, this take looks terrible in retrospect. With the Vory reference track going viral, fans couldn’t help but laugh at Akademiks and his hubris. Ak is known for being a huge Drake fan, and as many on social media noted, this has been a hard month for Drizzy’s staunchest defenders. In fact, Twitter likes to call Drake stans “Aubrey’s Angels,” which is pretty hilarious. Either way, fans now want to know what Akademiks thinks of the situation, especially since a reference track is officially in the ether.

The Roasting Begins

Let us know what you think of this situation, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that the reference track from Vory is that much of a big deal? Do you believe that Akademiks will change course on his opinion now that new information has surfaced? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Drake Blesses 21 Savage With The Ultimate Toronto Compliment

Drake and 21 Savage are a duo that have made it through some tough times. Overall, we say this because Drizzy is currently feuding with a lot of 21’s friends. The biggest rift here would be between Metro Boomin and the Canadian megastar. 21 has been caught in the middle of this, although he refuses to take sides. He has made it clear that he loves both Drake and Metro, and that he even thinks they can someday resolve their differences.

Last night, 21 was performing a second show in Toronto. During this performance, he surprised the crowd by bringing out none other than Drake. Of course, seeing as though this was Toronto, the fans were going absolutely wild. The two got to perform some track together, and it was a great moment. Afterward, as Drake left the stage, he declared that Toronto was 21’s city. He also encouraged the artist to perform a couple of extra tracks as the crowd was clearly feeling the show.

Drake x 21

Last night was certainly an interesting one for Drake. This is due to the fact that a reference track started making the rounds online. As many of you already know by now, this reference track was in relation to “Mob Ties” and it came from none other than Vory, who you may remember for his contributions to Donda. Ultimately, this has led to some uncomfortable debates about Drake and his legacy. Only time will tell if fans will just forget about this in a couple of days from now.

Let us know what you think of Drake and 21 Savage, in the comments section down below. How do you feel 21 has handled the feuds Drake has found himself in as of late? Do you think these two might have another collaborative album in them? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Drake Has Fans Questioning His Legacy As Vory’s “Mob Ties” Reference Track Goes Viral

Drake is an artist who has been hit with ghostwriting allegations before. Overall, the biggest example of this took place back in 2015 when Meek Mill accused him of not writing his own raps. However, it was eventually revealed that Drizzy was mostly using writers for hooks on his poppier tracks. When it came to his timestamp records, those bars were from Drake and Drake only. Well, amid his beef with Kendrick Lamar, the ghostwriting allegations have reappeared and they have fans questioning what they once knew to be true.

It all started when a Lil Yachty reference track for “Jumbrotron Shit Poppin” hit the internet. The entire song was performed by Yachty, which had fans calling Drake lazy. Last night, things got worse for Drake as a Vory reference track for “Mob Ties” hit the internet. This reference track was everywhere on Twitter, and fans were shocked that one of Drake’s best tracks was performed by someone else. Not to mention, this song appears on “Scorpion,” an album that was released right after the Pusha T debacle.

Vory Gave Drake A Reference Track

In the tweets below, you can see that fans were absolutely heartbroken and crushed by the news. This subsequently led to debates about whether or not this should affect Drake’s legacy. In many ways, it is the same conversation that was had all the way back in 2015. The difference now is that there are more examples to work with, and it has fans wondering if we’ve heard one reference track too many at this point.

Fans React

Let us know what you think about all of this, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that this is going to affect Drake and his legacy in anyway? How do you feel about artists in hip-hop using reference tracks, particularly for hooks? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Busta Rhymes Returns To Acting With Role In “Naked Gun” Reboot

Busta Rhymes has presence. It was evident from his breakout performance on the Tribe Called Quest posse cut, “Scenario.” It was heightened by the memorable music videos the rapper put out in the mid 1990s, and it culminated with him making the leap to the big screen around the same time. Busta turned in impressive performances in films like Higher Learning and Shaft, which is what makes his return to the big screen such an exciting prospect.

Busta Rhymes has been cast in the upcoming remake of the 1988 comedy classic The Naked Gun. His role has not yet been disclosed, but he will be acting alongside a star-studded cast of veterans. Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser have already signed on to headline the remake alongside character actors CCH Pounder and Danny Huston.

Busta Rhymes Hasn’t Acted In A Film Since 2016

The Naked Gun will mark Busta’s first film in nearly a decade. The last time he was seen onscreen was 2016’s King of the Dancehall, which was a musical drama directed by Nick Cannon. Since then, Busta has been relegated to talk show appearances and one-off cameos playing himself in shows like Master of None and Fresh Off the Boat. The rapper discussed the enjoyment he gets from acting during a 2000 interview with The Oklahoman.

“Acting is a lot less wear and tear,” he noted. “You get the chance to bounce around and be a thousand different people without it being a problem. With music, most of the time the market and the consumer is stubborn. They don’t want you to change too dramatically from what they know and love you for. You’ve got to feed them very carefully new or different things so that they can appreciate and adjust gradually.”

The actor also noted that working with stars like Samuel L. Jackson and Sean Connery helped to hone his craft. “Not only do you respect your elders but you respect those you learn from,” he explained. “I’m there to learn. I ain’t getting opportunities to be around Sean Connerys all my life.” The Naked Gun is set for release on July 18, 2025.
